Chapter 234: The Decline And Closure

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

Author's notes: Ok, the biggest changes to the story are the parts with Miney and Tim; adding a line for the engines that are leaving the railway; editing the part with Duke's rant about Stanley a little, and little tail bits of the actual closure and the part back in the present day.

The Decline and Closure

Narrator: At last, the workmen had given Rex his final inspection and planned to send him back to the Arlesdale miniature railway that evening. This gave Duncan no end of relief from the cheeky small green engine at last.

Duncan: Good riddance to that chattery little Rex. He's loud he's rude and he's completely disrespectful!

Narrator: The engines and the ponies and the drivers all groaned.

Duke: Oh I don't think so. I actually found Rex's company and curious nature to be rather be rather pleasant.

William: Neither do I. He's very friendly Duncan.

Sir Handel: Same here.

Rachel: Ditto. Besides, you were no prize yourself.

Peter Sam: Teheehee. Good one, sweetie.

Narrator: The other engines, drivers and the ponies all chuckled and hooted into laughter. Duncan subsided into silence. Rex was soon pushed back into the siding by Brush the works diesel. Rex felt very pleased to be mended again.

Brush: Donald and Big Macintosh will be coming to take you home soon Rex and I'll let you stay here in the meantime.

Duncan: Hmph! I can imagine he would.

Engines/ponies/drivers: (Groaning) Duncan… Shut up!

Duke: Of course. You're more than welcome to stay for a little while longer, though I bet you feel a bit keen about going home.

Rex: Thank you Duke. It'll be nice to be back home with my friends again. But may I ask before I go; what did happen to you're old line? Why did it close?

Narrator: Duke sighed and took a deep breath.

Duke: Well there many reasons why, but the main one was that it was just no longer useful to the public anymore. Soon after Jim left, the line steadily declined and eventually me, Falcon, Stuart, Miss Ravens and Mr. Holden were the only ones left to run the line.

William: Cripes! How awful.

Rachel: But surely, Twilight, Pinkie Pie, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy and Rarity still worked with you.

Narrator: Twilight shook her head sadly.

Twilight Sparkle: Not really. When the other engines left, we couldn't work on the Mid Sodor Line anymore and lost our jobs. We had to go back and work on the North Western Railway.

Miss Ravens: And even before then, times were tough. Duke, would like to tell them?

Duke: Thank you.

Narrator: Duke cleared his throat and this was the story he told of the downward spiral of the Mid Sodor Railway.

(Mid Sodor Railway 1923)

Narrator: There was great deal of change proceeding the years of the lines closure. In 1923, the Peel Godred Power Company (a subsidiary of the British Aluminium Company), obtained powers to build a dam and hydro-electric power plant a mile or so northwards of the town near the railway's terminus at King Orry's Bridge Station. They had at first considered using the Mid Sodor Railway and the Port of Arlesburgh, but although the Port was adequate, the clearances on the Mountain Road proved to be an unsurpassable obstacle. They then decided on an agreement with the North Western Railway for the construction of a standard gauge branch from Killdane junction to Peel Godred. This was most disastrous for the MSR. Duke felt rather upset by this turn of events.

(At Alresdale Worksheds.)

Duke: Oh dear. This will never do at all… I can remember a time when we actually meant something to this valley. (Sigh) and now it seems that we've now been relegated into second best.

Narrator: Falcon kept a more realistic view, as did Twilight Sparkle.

Falcon: We're too small Granpuff. We couldn't manage have the demand of the traffic to suit their needs.

Twilight Sparkle: Falcon's right. Plus, the clearances on the Mountain Road are too narrow for the job..

Mr. Holden: Not to mention that it would be down right dangerous if we did have the job. We could fall of the Mountain Road.

Narrator: Stuart on the other hand, kept a more positive and optimistic view.

Stuart: Don't worry. We still the have the holiday makers and picnickers that want to travel up and down our beautiful line.

Applejack: That's right Stuart. Plus, we still have the granite quarry, the coal mine and the lead mines.

Miss Ravens: Plus, we've still got the locals that like to travel down our line.

Duke: (Smiling.) You're right my dear grandchildren, Twilight, Applejack, Miss Ravens and Mr. Holden. Sure, this new power station may loom over us, but we'll still carry on.

Narrator: The ponies, engines and drivers all agreed to maintain faith and hope that their little railway would be able to endure the dark times, for valley's inhabitants the quarry workers and the engines, drivers and the ponies. The railway was a necessity to them.

Duke/Stuart/Falcon/Other MSR engines/Miss Ravens/Mr. Holden/Mane 6 ponies: Our railway close? Not in our time!

Narrator: The summer seasons brought more people to come and ride on the railway usually on Duke's Picnic excursion or on one of the railway's stopping trains. However, more difficulties hit the railway hard, as Duke, Twilight Sparkle and Miss Ravens arrived one day at the port. The steamer boats which came from the Isle of Man steamers Co. proved to be a vital source of summer tourist income. It came to shock when Duke and the other engines and the ponies all found that it would no longer be calling at the port of Arlesburgh anymore come 1935.

(1935)

Duke: Hullo? The boat hasn't arrived yet. I wonder where it could be. It's never this late.

Narrator: Twilight Sparkle kept checking her watch anxiously.

Twilight Sparkle: Come on. Where is that steamer at?! Clock is ticking! Clock is ticking!

Miss Ravens: Calm down Twilight. There's probably an explanation for this. Maybe it broke down and they had to call in a tug to help it here. Look, here's the station master. Let me go ask him what has happened.

Twilight: Oh yes. Um, sorry Miss Ravens.

Miss Ravens: Quite alright Twilight (Patting her mane). (To stationmaster.) Hey Ross!

Stationmaster: Yes?

Miss Ravens: Um, say, um, by any chance, do you know what happened to the boat? It's running late.

Narrator: The stationmaster frowned and shook his head sadly.

Stationmaster: I'm really sorry. I don't know how to break this too you three, but I'm afraid that the Isle of man Steamer co. has canceled it's boat services here.

Narrator: Duke, Miss Ravens and Twilight Sparkle were horrified.

Duke/Miss Ravens/Twilight Sparkle: (Horrified) WHAT?!

Duke: But why?! The tourist's love to ride our trains on our line.

Stationmaster: I'm sorry, Duke, Twilight, Miss Ravens, but I'm afraid that the Isle of Man steamers ceased to call at Arlesburgh port. They don't think we're profitable anymore.

Narrator: Duke collected what passengers and picnickers there were at the platform and he puffed sadly away with Twilight and Miss Ravens.

Miss Ravens: (Sad sigh.) Sorry Duke. It looks like we'll have to manage without the boat as best we can.

Duke: (Sad sigh.) I understand.

Narrator: And for the duration of the season, they did. That year, passenger services for the summer seasons were modest at best. But they were the only thing keeping the mountain road section alive. Once the summer season ended, the passenger trains on the Mountain Road ran almost empty. So, by 1936, the manager with a heavy heart decided to close the section. Then engines drivers and the ponies hearts sank.

(1936)

Manager: I'm afraid that the Mountain Road isn't earning its way. We have far too much maintenance to carry out to maintain it to make it safe to run on. It is with a heavy heart, that the board and I have decided to close the Mountain Road.

Duke: I understand your feelings entirely, but the passengers love the Mountain Road!

Manager: I'm sorry Duke, but we can't run a section that's only viable for a portion of the year. We'll just have to work without it.

Duke: I understand. Never mind. We'll keep on going for the sake of the passengers in the valley and for the mines, holiday makers or no holiday makers.

MSR Engines/Mane 6 ponies/MSR Manager/Miss Ravens and Mr. Holden: All for one and one for all!

MSR Manager: Heheh. That's the spirit everyone! I know you'll all manage splendidly and make us all very proud! Gods speed to all of you.

Narrator: And so the valiant efforts from both Miss Ravens and Mr. Holden along with Duke, Stuart Falcon, the ponies and the other engines helped to keep the line going through hard times. But even so, when winter came, further depreciation came. Goods trains became emptier and emptier and even the horse and cart was scheduled less and less. To make matters worse, Atlas had an accident at one of the mines. She was taking some trucks down to the mine, the rails were icy the trucks were heavy. She couldn't stop in time. Mr. Holden and Applejack jumped clear as Atlas ran out of control down the mine and eventually crashed at the end as the mine collapsed. The others felt very sad.

Millie: (Sad.) Oh dear, Miney. We've lost one of our sisters. I'm gonna miss Atlas.

Miney: There there Mille. I miss her too.

Narrator: Stuart could sympathies.

Stuart: Oh dear. I miss Atlas as well. It's bad enough that one of the lead mines has closed down. But why did have to be at the expense of Atlas?

Fluttershy: There there Stuart. We all miss her, but it could have been worse.

Narrator: Duke was upset too by the unfortunate event but still had to remain hopeful.

Duke: I know how you all feel and I miss her too. But we need to keep going for her and this railway.

Jerry: But there's less and less coal, granite and lead to be gathered.

Rainbow Dash: And there's less passengers too.

Duke: Don't worry everyone. Remember, we're still in winter time. When Spring time comes we'll have more passengers and goods back and the holiday makers will come back too.

Falcon: Duke is right. Besides, we still have the villagers and other mines as well. Shall we close?

Ponies/Engines/Drivers: Not in our time!

Narrator: And so they carried on with their work as best as they could. Sure enough, the bitter winter passed and spring soon bloomed with promises of renewal and warmth to the valley and the railway. But these were false promises however. The engines, ponies and drivers soon found out when the management took further steps in an attempt to keep the company's head above water. The 14 remaining engines and the mane 6 ponies were gathered at Arlesburgh sheds where a large group of men were waiting for them.

Stuart: (Shaking.) Why … Why are we all here?

Falcon: (Gravely.) Oh dear. Something's up.

Narrator: Tim, Jerry, Miney, Helen, Fletcher, Jennings, Alex, John, Mighty, Mac, Proteus and Millie were singled out in the group by some smartly dressed men and scruffier men in overalls.

Jerry: You're guess is as good as our Stuart.

Rainbow Dash: Yeah. We were just told to bring them down here and that's all they said.

Narrator: Poor Tim was so upset that was whimpering like a very sad puppy and bursting into tears.

Tim: (Crying.) Oh dear. I don't like the look of this at all… What if, maybe we're closing down… what if, maybe we're all going being scrapped or being sold away. What if this is it boys, girls and ponies? Where doomed… ( crying )

Miney: (Annoyed.) Oh shut up Child!

Millie: Hey, that's not the way you should deal with this Miney. Can't you see he's stressed out?

Narrator: Miney just groaned and rolled her eyes.

Miney: Yeah well, he's been like this since day one with (Imitating Tim ) 'Oh dear. My axels feel wobbly'… or… 'Oh no I'm going to derail'… or… 'we're going to close down'. (Normal) It drives me mad!

Tim: (Breaking down in sobs and tears.) Oh someone please tell me everything's alright. The tension's making my axels rattle the breaking point. (Breaking down and crying.)

Narrator: Miney suddenly remembered what she learned years ago.

Miney: Oh dear. I'm sorry Tim, for shouting like that. I guess I was also a bit stressed. It's going to be ok.

Fluttershy: (Gently patting Tim's smokebox) Miney's right. We're all here, and you're going to be ok.

Narrator: Helen was very upset, she knew what was going on.

Helen: (Sad tears.) We're being sold. I heard it from the manager.

Narrator: Falcon was horrified.

Falcon: (Tears.) NO! OH LORD, PLEASE NO!

MSR Manager: I'm sorry, but it is true.

Falcon: Please, you can't sir. They….

MSR Manager: I'm sorry Falcon. But we have no other choice.

Narrator: And he was right. By the end of the day, the 11 other engines were sold off and arrangements were put into place to move them off sight. It was the most sorrowful day for all as the engines left.

Helen: Falcon, I want you to remember something. No matter how far away you and I are from one another, we'll always be together deep in our hearts and on the other side of our whistles.

Falcon: (Tears.) Yes Helen. I'll never forget you my dear.

Narrator: The two engines kissed each one last time as the others said their good byes.

Jerry: We all want to wish you dry rails and good running. Duke it's been an honour to know you. Stuart, Falcon and all of you ponies.

Jennings: Best of luck to you lot.

Fletcher: We'll never forget you guys.

Proteus: Thank you all, for everything.

Tim: (Crying.) Oh no. We are doomed Fluttershy. I don't want to leave my nice valley. I like working with you. Please don't let them take me away.

Fluttershy: (Tears.) I know Tim, but you have to be strong for all us. Please.

Tim: (Tears) I'll try.

Alex: Don't worry Tim. Our new homes will take care of us.

John: Yeah. It's going to be ok.

Mighty: Indeed. We are all going to be in safe hands.

Mac: We'll be able to run our trains and be given the proper care.

Miney: Finally I can work somewhere quiet for a change. So long Duke. We wish you and the youngins luck on keeping this railway running.

Millie: Best wishes mes amis. Au revoir. (Translation of the last part: My friends. Goodbye.)

Duke/Falcon/Stuart: Thank you! We'll do our best!

Narrator: And with that, the 11 engines all left. Now it was only Duke, Falcon and Stuart. From 1936 onward, the decline worsened still. Track repairs were rough at best and simply unintended at worst. There number of occasions where trucks derailed on their way down to the port and time was lost rerailing them In the middle of a train. To make matters worse, because of the loss of the 11 other engines, Twilight Sparkle, Rarity, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy and Pinkie Pie all had no work left on the railway, not even in the workshops, and so had to return to work on the North Western Railway. This left Miss Ravens and Mr. Holden to run the line as both driver and Fireman/Firewomen, and 4 other people to work on the other engines and 2 other people to work on the engines when Mr. Holden and Miss Ravens were busy elsewhere. Soon, the best of the coaching stock was sold.

(1937)

Falcon: Stuart! I say Stuart! Are those my coaches for the Flying Falcon over there?

Stuart: (Sad sigh.) No Falcon, these are.

(Falcon sees to his horror a train of 5 4 wheeler coaches.)

Falcon: What?! You better be joking with me Stuart!

Stuart: (Takes a deep breath.) The express coaches for the Flying Falcon are being sold!

Falcon: (Horrified.) NO! Not the bogie wheel express coaches! The pride and joy of the line! The indignanty of it all pulling these wretched 4 wheelers instead!

Duke: That's enough! We all need to make sacrifices young Falcon! The picnic coaches are under tarpaulins and are to be sold as well. Even Gertrude and Millicent are being sold off.

Falcon: What?! Gertrude and Millicent? But, they were our best coaches.

Duke: I'm very sorry, Falcon. Manager is doing all he can to keep the line operable so we need to do our part as well! As long as we do so and keep steam up, we'll be able to cope through the bad times.

Stuart: What about Cora? Is she alright?

Duke: (Sighs) She's due to be sold as well.

Stuart: But… I've worked with her for 14 years. We can't be parted now!

Miss Ravens: Oh, Stuart. I'm sorry for this as well.

Duke: If there was another way we could do this, Stuart, manager would. But, like I said, we need to make sacrifices.

Mr. Holden: Duke's right, so we need to all pitch in to keep this line running.

Miss Ravens: We can do this guys. I know we can.

Stuart: You're absolutely right Miss Ravens. Surely we'll see an improvement.

Falcon: You're right Mr. Holden. Surely, we can't close down.

Duke/Falcon/Stuart/Mr. Holden/Miss Ravens: Not in our time!

Narrator: And so this became their motto. The two drivers would come down whenever they could and the little engines would puff up and down the valley, pulling their trains of trucks and 4 wheel coaches working hard in an effort to keep the railway open with local traffic from Arlesdale to Arlesburgh and vis-versa. When World War 2 began, it bought an upsurge in mineral traffic such as lead coal and granite traffic. The mines were expanded to their upmost limit and the engines felt very happy and so did Mr. Holden and Miss Ravens.

(1939)

Mr. Holden: Heheheh. What do you know about this Rachel? We've got more goods traffic than we did previous years.

Miss Ravens: I know what you mean William. I've never seen this much lead being shifted. Heheheheh. Well done Stuart.

Mr. Holden: Well done Duke and you too Falcon.

Falcon/Stuart/Duke: Oh, it's nothing really.

Falcon: But all the same, we'd better be careful not to exhaust the mines out.

Duke: You're right there Falcon, but we must do our best to help out for the war effort, even if we do exhaust the mines. His grace would definitely be proud of us.

Narrator: But secretly, deep down, Duke, Falcon, Stuart, Miss Ravens and Mr. Holden all dreaded the thought of what would happen if the mines did get exhausted. Eventually, Stanley was moved up to work as a pumping engine at one of the mines at Casy-n-Hawin. He had suffered poor maintenance over the years and was now on his last legs. Falcon, who had delivered him, was skeptical of whether or not he was useful any longer.

Falcon: Alright, tell me honestly then Stanley; do really think you can keep this up?

Stanley: I… I can still manage. But uh… thanks for your concern anyway.

Falcon: You'd full me, but for you're sake and our railway's sake, I hope you can.

Narrator: When the war ended there was great hopes surrounding the railway. They believed that the goods traffic still thrive and that the holiday makers would abandon the buses and road coaches and flock back to the railway like seagulls. However, this wasn't to be the case. The buses provided much more better service to the holiday makers and the manager knew that the railway couldn't compete. Eventually, even local traffic from Arlesdale to Arlesburgh, took to the roads. The news hit the 3 little engines hard and there two driver friends, Mr. Holden and Miss Ravens.

Manager: (Sadly.) Engines, Mr. Holden and Miss Ravens, I am sorry to announce that, (tear trickles from his eye.) That our passenger service has been discontinued.

Duke/Falcon/Stuart/Miss Ravens/Mr. Holden: WHAT? NO! YOU CAN'T BE SERIOUS!

Manager: I'm sorry guys, but I'm afraid we can't compete with the buses or the NWR. However, we shall be carrying on as a mineral tramway.

Narrator: The 3 MSR Engines and the two driver's hearts sank like a ship. Now they truly had been relogated into second place. Miss Ravens and Mr. Holden loved their engines and would maintain them to best of their ability. However, while the engines were maintained, the track and stock suffered. The mines suffered badly as well, as they were stripped beyond safety margins. Soon, much too soon, after the war in 1945, the mines closed one by one, reducing traffic further until the only mine left was the one Stanley was pumping out in Casy-n-Hawin. Trains ran only when required to Casy-n-Hawin and the sound of a steam engine hard at work became more and more rarer every month. Then one miserable rainy December morning of 1946, Duke had arrived with Mr. Holden at Casy-n-Hawin to find a group of miners with very somber faces.

(1946)

Duke: What happened? Why aren't my trucks ready.

Miss Ravens: Is everything alright?

Miner: (Sad sigh.) The pumping engine's broken down and now the mine is flooded beyond rescue. The engine itself is buried under three feet of water.

Narrator: Duke hissed in fury and rage.

Duke: (Furious beyond anything you've seen.) So that's it! CURSE YOU STANLEY! YOU'VE BROUGHT THE WHOLE RAILWAY DOWN AS I ONCE SAID YOU MIGHT! YOU BLASTED CHEAP PILE OF SCRAP! YOU…

Miss Ravens: Whoa. Duke. Easy old boy. Please. He didn't mean to do it. Stanley had poor maintenance over the years, so he would have broken down sooner or later.

Duke: (Sighs) You're right, Miss Ravens. But still… our time has come.

Narrator: Mr. Holden, Falcon and Stuart were surprised to see Duke return so soon and with his trucks.

Falcon: I spy…

Stuart: Granpuff!

Falcon: Hey, that was my go. And you are meant to say a letter, not a word.

Stuart: No, look.

Falcon: Oh, Granpuff. Sorry. Didn't see you there. Uh… why are you back so soon?

Stuart: Have the miners been having trouble getting the materials out.

Duke: (Sad sigh.) It's all over my grandchildren. The mine has flooded beyond rescue. We've lost.

Miss Ravens: (Sad sigh tearing up.) We've lost our last source of survival.

Mr. Holden: (Crying.) NO! Oh good lord no!

Miss Ravens: It's all over. The writing is on the wall and the bell has finally tolled.

Narrator: Miss Ravens and Mr. Holden both hugged each other bursting into tears as Falcon and Stuart burst into tears side by side with Duke in the middle. At last with no further reason to exist, and after Falcon pulled the last passenger train with all of the mane 6 ponies aboard and many other Mid Sodor railway sympathisers, The Mid Sodor Railway closed down in on January of 1947. Stations, sheds and engine facilities were stripped down and demolished whilst rolling stock was sold or scrapped on sight and even the engines themselves were put up for sale. Duke stood alone on a siding with Miss Ravens and Mr. Holden whilst the bidders clambered around the other 2 engines. Then, the manager came to the 2 drivers with very grave news. The 3 engines watched from their tracks.

Falcon: What are they saying over there?

Stuart: I don't know. They are speaking too quietly and far away.

Duke: Patience, young ones. They'll tell us as soon as they get here.

(Manager, Miss Ravens and Mr. Holden.)

Manager: (Sad sigh.) They decided that they're going to take Stuart and Falcon to work for the Aluminium works project.

Narrator: Mr. Holden and Miss Ravens were horrified. But the manager continued.

Manager: But don't worry, I've just got word from your brother's wife Miss Ravens and she and their daughter are going to be keeping an eye on them and try to save them and see that no harm comes to them by that wretched Jacob.

Miss Ravens: Thank you Sir. I'm very pleased by this news.

Narrator: Then the manager started to tear up.

Manager: (Tears.) But I'm sorry to say though that Duke never made a sale.

Narrator: Mr. Holden and Miss Ravens burst into tears. They knew what this meant.

Miss Ravens: Oh no. Please Sir. You can't surely.

Mr. Holden: Oh please Sir. You can't scrap him, Sir.

Manager: (Tears.) After so many years of good and reliable service, I would never dream of it. Not now and not ever. There is still hope for Duke. Please clean, oil, grease and sheet him. I'm sure he'll find a buyer at some point.

Miss Ravens/Mr. Holden: (Tears.) Yes Sir.

Narrator: Miss Ravens and Mr. Holden told the 3 engines what was going on.

Stuart/Falcon: WHAT?!

Mr. Holden: We're sorry. It must be done.

Duke: I want the 2 of you to be strong for me. Take care of yourselves, and each other.

Falcon: We promise, and we also promise something else: Your wisdom, kindness and exploits will not go unheard.

Stuart: We'll tell the engines at our new home about you, and you can stay with us. We won't have to ever part again.

Duke: (Teary eyed) Thank you, both of you. We'll all keep the faith.

Narrator: Falcon and Stuart all whistled to Duke with encouragement, for they knew this would be the last time they would be together on their own railway. Duke was oiled and greased one last time and sheeted snuggly by Mr. Holden and Miss Ravens who were all full tears. They all said there last goodbyes, the sheds doors closed, Miss Ravens and Mr. Holden walked sadly away in tears and the flag had finally fallen on the Mid Sodor Railway's working life.

(Crovans Gate.)

Duke: And that my fellow friends and ponies, was the end of the Mid Sodor Railway.

Narrator: Everyone was touched by the story and felt very sorry for the Mid Sodor Railway.

Rachel: Oh my goodness. I'm so sorry about the Mid Sodor…

Narrator: But Duke smiled.

Duke: Don't worry Rachel my dear granddaughter in law. There was actually still hope still after our line close.

Skarloey: Indeed. The Mid Sodor Railway's loss was massive gain to you're new home and saved our railway so that you could all live here.

Sir Handel: And we wouldn't have met such nice little foal ponies after we were saved from the Aluminium works.

Featherweight: That's absolutely correct.

William: And I wouldn't have met such a wise engine like Duke.

Peter Sam: And if it wasn't for that, I would have never met you Rachel my dear.

Rachel: Oh, Sammy…

Narrator: Rachel and Peter Sam smiled and kissed each other happily.

All barring Scootaloo, Ward Fell, Fred and Duncan: Aww….

Scootaloo/Fred/Ward Fell/Duncan: EEeeewww. Give me a break!

Narrator: But no one paid attention to them.

Duke: …And so you pretty much know the rest. Hope did come. Years later, the small controller, 2 men, Miss Ravens and Mr. Holden came looking for me, and one of them landed on my saddletank after coming in right through the roof by accident. (Chuckles) At 1st I thought he was a vandal, but I was indeed wrong, thankfully. heheheh.

Rex: I remember Mike telling me about that. He had to put on Miss Raven's horse, Strawberry, on the way home.

Narrator: The entire group laughed.

Rex: Hey, Duke, did you know where the other 11 engines went?

Duke: Sadly, no. I didn't hear the names of those railways.

Rachel: Who knows? They might pop down here for a visit, and then they'll tell you. (Winks at Mr. Holden and Miss Ravens)

Sir Handel: Perhaps they might. It would be a dream come true if they did.

Narrator: Soon, much too soon, Brush arrived to shunt Rex onto the back of Donald' goods train.

Donald: Alrighty Big Macintosh. Let's get the wee beste back to the Arlesdale miniature railway.

Big Macintosh: Eeeyup!

Duke: Heheheh. Don't worry you two, he's not all bad. we had lots of fun telling him about the history of his line.

Donald: Och I remember that when ye came out of yon shed in 1969. Right Big Macintosh?

Big Macintosh: Eeeyup. And now that the Arlesdale miniature railway's engines and Princess Cadence and the little foals working there well know all about the Mid Sodor Legacy. Goodbye!

Donald: Och! Guld bye!

Rex: Thank you for telling me about you're line. It was nice seeing you again Duke and it was nice getting to know you all.

Ponies and engines: Same to you, Rex!

Narrator: Soon, the guards whistle blew and Donald set off taking Rex home.

All the ponies: Thank you Duke for telling us all about you're line.

Duke: Oh your all quite welcome. It was an honour to tell you all about it and that would definitely suit his grace.

Narrator: And soon the main 6 drivers and all the ponies went off together to Crovans Gate Hotel and the engines all went to sleep too, all knowing that there was always still hope for everyone, everypony and everyengine everywhere.
