Twilight Sparkle's adventures in the Railway Series
Chapter 232: Mighty And Mac's One Good Turn
Previous Chapter Next ChapterAuthor's notes: Ok, change of plan. Mighty and Mac arrive on the railway, then Penny Sally. So, here's Mighty and Mac's story 1st. Side note: Mighty and Mac are both single farlies here, not a double.
Mighty And Mac's One Good Turn
Rex: Wow, that was a good story Duke. I love how you ponies along with Alex all helped John find his courage.
Rachel: Indeed he reminds me of Peter Sam.
William: And Sir Handel too, dear sister.
Sir Handel: And don't forget William.
Rachel: Of course, brother. I'd never leave the 2 of you out.
(Record scratch.)
Duncan: Seriously? How in the name of Princess Luna and the thin controller can you two be brother and sister? I mean, you two aren't even the same type of engine. You're a diesel Rachel, and you're a steam engine William.
Everyone barring Duncan, Ward Fell and Fred: Duncan, shut up!
Narrator: Duncan subdued into silence. Duke chuckled.
Duke: Heheheheh. You know, this sort of reminds me of the twin engines mighty and mac.
Pipsqueak: Who are Mighty and Mac?
Duke: They were two twin Fairlie engines. They were just two peas in a pod. They meant well, but were a bit cheeky.
Rachel: Oh, you mean like Duncan?
Narrator: And the other engines and the ponies all laughed as Duncan shot a dirty look.
Peter Sam: Heh, good one, Rache.
Rachel: Thanks, sweetie.
Sweetie Belle: So anyway, what happened to them?
Narrator: Duke cleared his throat and here is the story he told them.
(Mid Sodor, 1930)
Narrator: Mighty and Mac were single fairle tank engine twins, both had and 0-4-4T wheel configuration and both had the same blue Livery. The two engines worked mostly at the granite quarry, pulling truckloads of granite from the quarry to transfer station on the mainline and for ships at the port with Applejack and Rainbow Dash. Although the two engines meant well and were good workers, they were also a tad bit cheeky and sometimes played tricks on the workmen, workwomen, ponies and engines.
(Mighty shunts some trucks around the incline with Rainbow Dash and Mr. Holden.)
Rainbow Dash: Whoa, slow down Mighty!
Mr. Holden: We have a set speed limit here!
Mighty: Ready Mac?!
Mac: Ready Mighty!
(Mac shunts his trucks towards Mighty)
Miss Ravens: NO WAIT! MAC!
Applejack: No no! No you don't! Don't ya'll do…
(The two engines crash into each other.)
Applejack: …That… oh. Pony feathers.
Duke: Ugh! This will never suit his grace!
Twilight Sparkle: Ugh! Only with those two.
Narrator: But sometimes they're teasing ways sometimes often got them into trouble. One morning, the manager came to see them.
Manager: Mighty, Mac, Rainbow Dash and Applejack, I have an important job for you both. Important goods will be arriving soon and I need you to help the other engines and the ponies with these goods trains.
Mighty/Mac: Oh yes Sir please sir.
Rainbow Dash: They don't call me the element of loyalty for nothing!
Applejack: And you can count on me. That's the honest apple fritter truth.
Manager: Good, but Mighty and Mac, remember, this is an important job and I want no cheekiness with you two.
Mighty: Yes sir!
Mac: We'll be good sir!
Narrator: And with that the two engines set off together on their important mission, Rainbow Dash, Mr Holden and Applejack on board. Duke was getting ready to take the picnic when he heard two well-known whistles.
Duke: (Sigh.) Oh dear… Here comes trouble.
Miss Ravens: And make it double!
Narrator: And soon, the two twins entered into the yards.
Mighty: The manager told us that you were tired…
Mac: And he wanted us to take all you trucks and coaches for you.
Rainbow Dash: That's enough Mighty!
Applejack: Ya'll better behave Mac!
Twilight Sparkle: (Sigh.) Same old Mighty and Mac.
Duke: Heheheh. You two never give up do you? But I am wise to your extentrics and we need your help, but we can't if you're going to be naughty.
Narrator: The two fairle twins promised. They set to work. Mr. Holden, Rainbow Dash and Mighty along with Applejack and Mac were soon busy pushing and pulling the trucks and vans into place. Miss Ravens came back so that she could help Applejack with Mac. The two engines worked very well and by 6pm, the days work was nearly over. The twins only had two more sets of trucks to pick up. Mighty and Rainbow Dash went to collect they're trucks.
Mighty: Alright, got the trucks. Now we're to put them in that siding.
Narrator: But the foreman walked up to them.
Foreman: Please put those trucks on the other siding. We need this siding clear for engines to move about.
Narrator: Mighty did so, but unluckily for them, the foreman had switched him on the wrong siding. Mr. Holden and Rainbow Dash looked out and found to their horror that Mighty was on the wrong track and Mac, Miss Ravens and Applejack were heading right towards them.
Rainbow Dash: SSSTTTTOOOPPP! QUICK!
Mr. Holden: GOOD HEAVENS! BRAKES!
Miss Ravens: OH MY GOODENSS! BRAKE!
Applejack: Yyyaaahhh! Stop!
Narrator: Mr. Holden and Miss Ravens applied Mighty's and Mac's brake hard on and the engines and their trucks came to a grinding halt. The two engines gazed grimly at each other.
Mr. Holden: Sorry about that. The Foreman must have set the points in the wrong direction.
Miss Ravens: It's alright. We'll just…
Mighty: Oy! I was here first MAC!
Rainbow Dash: Oh come on now Mighty. Let's just…
Mac: But you're in my way! You'll have to back up again!
Applejack: Mac! Don't you start it too!
Mighty: I WON'T!
Mac: YOU WILL!
Mighty: I WON'T!
Mac: YOU WILL!
Mighty: I WON'T!
Mac: YOU WILL!
Mighty: I WON'T!
Mac: YOU WILL!
Mr. Holden/Rainbow Dash/Miss Ravens/Applejack:OH FOR PETE SAKE!
Narrator: The manager came to stop the noise.
Manager: Mighty! Mac! I am most displeased with the both of you! If you two do not start to behave yourselves, than I will send you both back to the granite quarry!
Narrator: The next morning, the two engines were grumbling about each other and refusing to speak with each other.
Mighty: I say Falcon, Rainbow Dash, can you believe that Mac! That stupid engine getting in my way in the siding he's the most stupidest engine ever!
Rainbow Dash: (Groaning.) Mighty, for the last time, it was not his fault and it wasn't yours either.
Falcon: Yeah. The way I heard it, it's sounds like the man working the points was to blame.
Mr. Holden: So get that into you're smoke box, Mighty!
Mighty: Pah! You must have heard it wrong!
Mr. Holden/Rainbow Dash/Falcon: Mighty, shut up!
Narrator: Mac was grumpy too.
Mac: I say Stuart, that Mighty, that stubborned klutz, got into my way in the sidings. He's nothing but a silly engine!
Stuart: The way I heard it from Falcon, it was the man operating the points to blame.
Mac: Pah! Likely story.
Stuart: (Sigh) I hope this bickering ends soon, Miss Ravens.
Miss Ravens: Same here. I don't know how much more I can put up with this.
Applejack: Neither can I. R.D, and Mr. Holden aren't fairing up too well either.
Narrator: And they were right. The two twins grumbled about each other all morning till Rarity, Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Jerry, Helen, Tim, Miney, Atlas, Millie, Proteus, John, Alex, Stuart and Falcon were exhausted. Even Duke and kind Fluttershy were losing patience.
Fluttershy: Oh my.. I'm worried Duke, Tim, things aren't looking good.
Tim: It's endless debate that'll never be solved. We're doomed. Doomed I tell you.
Fluttershy: There there Tim. It's okay. Just keep your chin up.
Duke: But you're correct Fluttershy. All this grumbling is doing nothing but spreading bad atmosphere around the railway.
Twilight Sparkle: You're right and that's why Mr. Holden, Rainbow Dash, Applejack and Miss Ravens and I have a plan.
Narrator: She whispered their plan to them.
Duke: Excellent. I'm sure the manager will agree.
Narrator: As indeed he did.
Manager: I'll start making arrangements straight away.
Narrator: The next morning, he went to speak to Mighty and Mac.
Manager: I have important job for you. Duke is taking the morning picnic train today, and I'll need an engine to take the horse and cart in his place. The train is heavy, so I'll need you both to work together here.
Mighty: But…
Mac: But…
Narrator: But the manager just ignored it.
Manager: Good, that's settled then. I knew I could rely on the both of you.
Mac: Pah! I don't need you'r help! I can pull the train by myself!
Mighty: Fine. Go right ahead!
Miss Ravens: (Whispering to Applejack, Rainbow Dash and Mr. Holden.) Alright, they took it.
Mr. Holden: (Whisper.) Alright, great. Now for phase 2. Good luck.
Narrator: Soon, Mac was coupled up to the horse and cart, but it was way too heavy for him to pull on his own.
Mac: (Straining.) Come on! come on! come on!
Narrator: But his wheels kept spinning and spinning.
Mighty: Well, what are you waiting for mac? Go on then!
Mac: (Straining) I can't!
Narrator: Then, suddenly, the two engines laughed.
Mac: Heheheheh. I don't think we should take turns this time. I'm sorry I was rude to you, Mighty.
Mighty: That's alright Mac. Heheheheh I agree. I think we should all pull together. I'm sorry for being so rude to you as well. Come on. Let's do this together, my brother.
Narrator: Mac was delighted and so was Mighty. It was great to be helping each other, and best of all to be friends again. None were more delighted then Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Mr. Holden and Miss Ravens.
Mr. Holden/Miss Ravens: Oh thank you girls
Mr. Holden: We couldn't have done this without you two and of course Twilight Sparkle. Remind me to thank her when we get back.
Applejack: No problem there partners!
Rainbow Dash: Same here. Glad to help out anytime.
Narrator: Mighty and Mac became very good engines. They still played tricks on each other sometimes, but they know full well to work hard and do their jobs on time on the MSR.
