Dash has just revealed what happened back at the Steel Mill to Carnage. What will his reaction be?

Chapter 8: FREEZE

Mr. Carnage held on to Dash as tightly as he could without suffocating her. Dash expected a number of things emanating from Carnage when she told him. One was anger at her or Batman, him falling over, him crying. But instead of any of those he just held her. The only thing he said was when he whispered in her ear and told her that everything was going to be alright. She could feel his heartbeat thump at the same time as hers and embraced the hug instead of fight it.

They were there for a small moment. Neither Batman nor the Doctor dared to interrupt them but suddenly Mr. Carnage shot up with a smile on his face and said "Hang on a second. You said my name in front of these two. Naughty Dash. We've been over this…"

Dash lowered her head. "Yeah, sorry about that."

She was surprised he was now focusing on this but she didn't question it as for some reason he was smiling. Carnage turned to the Doctor and Batman and said "Oh well, nothing we can do about it now. So allow me to re-introduce myself. My name is Marty Wright, but please call me Mr. Carnage or Carnage."

They both shook his hand and Carnage got serious as he pointed at Batman. "Alright Batman. To clear the air, I am not mad at you. It was Dash's choice to go in there so were cool."

Batman simply nodded. Carnage turned to the Doctor. "Oh and Doctor… you're still cool."

The Doctor smiled and said "Right now that's out of the way, we had all better get off to the Tardis."

Carnage looked puzzled. "Oh right then, why do we need to go there?"

Batman answered his question. "According to Joker who is also suffering mine and Dash's illness there is a cure. Apparently Freeze has it but he has gone dark on the Joker so he wants us to get it."

It all clicked in Carnage's head at that moment. "Ah I get it now. Joker infected the pair of you to force you both to get his cure from Freeze. And he knows you well Batman. He knows you won't let him die, especially if you get a cure."

Batman said "He has apparently been distributing his blood to hospitals all around the city as well. I can't confirm this but I wouldn't put it past him."

The Doctor mentioned "We actually don't know if it will affect Dash quicker or slower than a human but were certain it will affect her."

Carnage then said "Well it appears we can't waste anytime then. Doctor, take us to your spaceship."

To say that Carnage was in heaven at this moment would be an understatement. He was the little boy from earth, sitting in front of the TV watching the Doctor save the universe from the Daleks, the Cybermen, the Master, the Slytheen, the Autons, the Sontarons one more time.

While Carnage pranced around the main console of the Tardis, he was studying every button, every detail possible. Knowing he would likely not set foot in here again.

Batman silently stood in a corner. The group had explained to Carnage on the way that they needed to find the coldest point in Arkham city to locate freeze. Dash was currently flying around the Tardis, technically she had already seen this with Doctor Whooves. Only this one was a little bit bigger. Finally the man himself, the Doctor was busily fiddling with buttons around his console, trying to get a good enough scan of the area.

The Doctor had taken off his large brown overcoat and placed it in its usual spot when he wasn't wearing it. However, carnage was now wearing it and using the screwdriver he had left in it. The Doctor didn't mind, but he did wonder how Carnage knew him son well. He was even quoting his past regenerations, but that was a distraction. Carnage had taken the coat off now and placed it back in its spot and the Doctor immediately returned back to work.

Batman was acting slightly impatient. He knew he had little time as the Joker had become a Titan and his biology protected from dying quickly. This is why he had survived for so long.

However he and Dash had taken a concentrated dose of his blood and neither of them had been properly exposed to the Titan. At best guess, Batman figured that they had less than twenty four hours. He asked the Doctor "How long till you have us a location?"

The Doctor didn't look at him as he was too busy at the consoles, but he did answer his question. "It will take a moment I'm afraid, but not as long as I thought it would. Luckily Freeze will create a spike in the temperature so it should be relatively simple to spot in the area."

Mr. Carnage noted "It would likely be even easier, if it wasn't winter out there."

"That's true but the Tardis won't let me down."

Dash stopped for a moment to ask the Doctor a question, "How long have you had the Tardis, Doctor?"

"Oh about… well let's say hundreds of years."

Suddenly a sound filled the room. It sounded like a ping. The Doctor looked over the monitor and a location had been discovered. "Ah now let's see here. It appears that the coldest point in Arkham city is at… an abandoned police station."

Batman stepped out of the shadows and said "That sounds about right. Freeze would have all the tools to create the cure in there and it would be a strong defensive point for him."

Carnage asked "Should we take the Tardis? We'll get there a lot quicker?"

The Doctor pondered this for a moment but came to a conclusion relatively quickly. "I don't think that's a good idea. There are cameras everywhere and Strange will be looking out for anything… well, strange."

Dash then flew to the door and called out, "Alright then, I'll race you all there!"

Dash flew out with Carnage in close pursuit, reminding her she didn't know where to go.

The Doctor flicked one last switch, he seemed hesitant to do this and Batman noticed this. He asked "What's wrong Doctor?

The Doctor turned around. "Oh that, that's just a security measure. I'm in another universe and I really hope I won't have to use that.

"What does it do exactly?"

The Doctor paused for a moment. He shook of any gloom he had and smiled. He replied "Don't worry about it. I'll probably never have to use it. I still haven't in all my years of travelling with sexy here."

"Sexy, huh?"

"… That's between me and her. Don't mention that to Carnage, he'll have a field day."

Batman actually smirked a little and said "My lips are sealed. Come, let's join the others."

The par ran out, not before the Doctor grabbed his coat and locked the door of his most prized possession behind him.

Little did they know that they were being watched. As soon as the group left the helicopter turned on its light and pointed it at the Tardis. Strange who had entered the copter so Batman could not hear over his communicator gave an order to the pilot. "There it is. You know what to do."

As they had made their way to the police station the Joker had figured out that Batman could hear him now. He kept making random calls, ranting about different things that the Dark knight couldn't care less about.

The four of them seemed to be in good spirits despite the potential fate that awaited Dash and Batman. The Doctor was a bit edgy, when he was asked why his only response was that he felt that something was wrong but told them to forget about it as it wasn't important.

The four of them now stood on a building overlooking the old GCPD building. There they saw a worrying site, three armed Joker goons. They were trying to get into the building bat a metal door stopped he from doing. The four of them were close enough that they could the goons conversing over their communicators. "What's stopping it?"

"The door, it's shut tight!"

"So what now?"

"You two, keep trying to get in. I'll blow their faces off if they try to get out."

"And then what? We just grab Freeze and take him back to Joker."

"Sounds like a plan. Anyone get anything to smoke?"

They switched off their communicators in unison and Dash turned to the others. "So what are we waiting for? Let's go down there and clobber them."

Batman stuck out an arm to stop her. "I'm wondering they were referring to when that goon said he'd shoot anyone who leaves."

Carnage gave an opinion. "Well there are lots of gangs in Arkham. It's probably one of them. Maybe freeze is working with someone else."

The doctor shook his head. "Unlikely, Freeze isn't exactly a team player. I'm not sure why he would help Joker in the first place."

Batman refocused and said "I'll go down there and take out the goons, meanwhile you three go down there and open up the door. I have a theory but we'll need to confirm it once were in."

Batman leaped down and began to do his thing while the others climbed down as quickly as they could.

The Doctor, Dash and Carnage came to the metal shutter. Dash noted that it looked like the one back at Jokers hideout. They could hear bullets firing and the goons crying out but were more focused on the door to really take notice.

The Doctor pulled out his trusty screwdriver and said "Right all I have to do is find the right point and the shutter should…"

Carnage however had other plans and he grabbed the bottom of the shutter and pull it straight it. Because of his strength it went with ease and Batman dropped down beside Carnage and said "Good work."

They walked in while Dash looked up at an annoyed looking Doctor. The Doctor then muttered under his breath "I could have done that."

The pair caught up to the other pair, they could all hear the gruff voice of the Penguin closed by. "Can you hear me? What's going on? Oh for the love of…"

Then followed the voice to a dead Penguin goon who had been likely killed by the Joker goons. The voice continued. "If any of you idiots at the GCPD are still capable of breathing, switch to channel Puffin-Zero. Do you understand? Puffin-Zero, now!"

Batman took the receiver from the dead goon. He took it apart and grabbed the chip. Then like before he scanned and configured and said to the others that they can now hear all of Penguin's communications also.

The four of them then cautiously entered the front entrance to the GCPD building in order not to gain any unwanted attention.

The inside of the Gotham Police Department was just like the city of Gotham. Very Bleak. Although no one and no pony was very surprised by this.

The grayish blue walls didn't help to raise the mood of anybody unlucky enough to enter. The room they were in was a mess.

There were left over wanted posters all over the walls and some of them had some old foes from Batmans past. All kinds of machinery were covered in dust and cobwebs and some were clearly in disrepair. One would wonder how freeze could work in these conditions but he had worked n worse.

Carnage made a fair evaluation of the place. "Well this is a shithole, isn't it?"

The Doctor responded by saying "Not the exact language that I would use but I suppose that's a fair

assessment. Though this place was abandoned."

Dash was confused, "Why would anypony abandon a police station?"

Batman answered, "They were forced to leave. When Strage's Arkham City plans went through he

gained this part of and evacuated all the residents. Even the police weren't safe."

They walked a bit further into the station but they paused when they heard a voice behind a wall. "The Joker's crew is still outside, Mr. Cobblepot.

The Penguin's voice was then heard over their communicators. "Good, make sure it stays that way."

The voice behind the wall then replied "No problem."

The Doctor talked quietly so no one on the other side could hear him, "It appears that we aren't alone. We need to take them out."

Suddenly the group realized Batman was absent. He had taken the initiative to shoot up and get to a grate near the ceiling.

Carnage told the others that this time they should just let the Dark Knight work this time.

Batman made his way through a vent and out through another that placed him right above five Penguin goons.

He shot up to one of the beams hanging over and looked down on the area.

This appeared to be where Freeze was working. The only thing absent was Freeze himself. He decided that a frontal confrontation would be unwise so he would instead take out silently. Especially considering the fact that his new 'Teammates' were not following him for a change.

Batman overheard a conversation from the goons below.

"What does Freeze do here anyway?"

"I don't know, but Penguin wants it. That's good enough for me."

Batman had to assume the worst at this point. The Penguin likely had Freeze. This was a problem but he had to be sure, so he would need to take out these armed thugs first.

Batman spotted one goon who trailed off from the others to the left of him. He glided to the left and fell right behind him. The unsuspecting goon then felt his airways cut off as Batman flipped him over and placed his hands on his nose and mouth until he passed out.

Batman then noticed something on the goon. It was a heartbeat monitor. That meant the goons would now be alerted by Penguin to the fact that one of theirs was knocked out.

Batman shot back up to his podium but didn't waste any time in taking out another guard.

He glided down but his intended target spotted him. The armed crook took a few shots from his AK but narrowly missed and he ate Batman's armored glove. Another shot from the Dark Knight knocked him out cold.

The other three goons had heard the noise and ran to where Batman was to investigate. However, as soon as they got there their vision was taken from them by smoke.

Batman's smoke pellet had sealed their doom and one by one they fell, till the Dark Knight was the only man left standing.

Carnage and co. then entered. They were applauding Batman's performance. Carnage said to Dash "I hope you fully understand now why he's one of my heroes."

Dash nodded with confidence while the Doctor started to examine the equipment in the room. "Now this is nice. High tech generators, modular regulators, this is like a candy cove of science stuff. In fact, most of this stuff is what you would need to find a cure. I'm willing to bet Freeze was also trying to find a cure for his wife."

Batman agreed. "Most likely. But we don't have time for that, if Freeze isn't hear he has either escaped or…"

"Wait! Wait! Don't hurt me! I'll tell you what you want to know."

Everyone turned to the scene before them. Carnage held one of the formerly unconscious goons by his throat; it was very reminiscent of how Batman did his interrogations. "Good, then you'll tell me and my friends exactly where Freeze is."

"He's in the museum. Penguin's got him!"

Batman seemed to confirm this. "I know the place, he's telling the truth."

Penguins voice was then heard over their communicators threatening "I'll have to cut that tongue out of your head, boy. I don't like people telling tales on me."

"No! I'm sorry, Mr. Cobblepot. He made me tell him."

Carnage swiftly knocked the man out again but then the group heard Penguin's voice over the intercom saying "You can 'ave him, Batman. I'm safe and sound here in my museum. Try and get me if you like. I've got plenty of surprises ready for you if you do. Starting right now."

The ground below them shook and they could hear a large booming sound from outside. Batman recognized it as an explosion. The only thing at that moment to pass out of the Doctors lips was "Well that doesn't sound good."

The Doctor expected a lot worse when he stepped outside. All he found was a destroyed bridge and a large number of stranded Penguin goons.

The Doctor thought the Penguin was smarter than this. He didn't seem to consider the fact that Batman could easily grapple to one of the buildings.

Never the less the group now found themselves inside Penguins museum. And surprise… it looked bleak. Almost abandoned but the group knew better.

They were in the hallway to the museum. Beside them were boarded up rooms which once, were likely gift shops.

As soon as the group walked through they had accidently tripped a sensor which had made a metal gate fall down on the pathway in front of them, blocking it off.

Batman wasn't detoured by this and he went into his detective vision. He broke through a window in order to follow where the sensors console was. Batman reassured his companions, "We won't be stuck by this. All I need to do is get into the sensor and…"

He took out his cryptographic sequencer and started to crack into the sensor. The words of an announcer were looped over the intercom, warning all people that entered would have to be searched in order to continue. This was likely due to Penguin's obsession of keeping himself safe from the other criminals.

As Batman continued to crack the code his screen froze. This drew everyone's attention and the voice of the Penguin was heard over the intercom "I don't think I want you breaking into my little home, Batman."

Batman stood up and looked at the others and told them "Something is blocking communications back to the Batcave."

The Doctor took out his screwdriver and took a shot at the device only to give an annoyed grunt. "It's a deadlock seal. I can't get in there."

Carnage then offered "I could just lift the gate. I think I'm strong enough."

Batman shook his head. "You are probably right. However, Penguin is likely using military grade communication disruptors. We will need to take those out now so we don't face any issues in the future."

Dash understood and said "Alright then, let's destroy those disruptor thingies."

Batman started to scan for the disruptors; he said he was able to do that at least. "There appear to be three of them, all outside of the building but they are all within the same vicinity."

Carnage then spoke up. "Actually I have a better idea. Why don't me and Batman destroy the jammers and you two stay here in case anything changes."

Dash voiced her displeasure with a "No way!"

Batman, however had other ideas. "I prefer that. Only two of us will be needed to destroy these jammers."

"Let's go then Dark Knight."

Before Dash or the Doctor could argue, Carnage and Batman had left.

To say Dash was annoyed would be an understatement. Dash wildly backed at the wall beside her in frustration. "Why does he keep doing this? Leaving me behind, constantly. I mean…"

Suddenly, a female voice was heard over the pair's communicators. "Bruce, are you there?"
