Chapter 14: Fights like a Girl
Location: Equestria, A Plain outside Ponyville
Time: Two Weeks and Six Days post Arrival
It was a beautiful day in Equestria, especially in the wilderness outside the civilized towns. The sun was shining, the animals were frolicking, the birds were nesting. It was…perfect-
*FZBOOOOM!*
-almost perfect.
Twilight: *groans loudly in frustration* WHY ISN'T THIS WORKING?!
Pinkie: Maybe you should add some more 'oomph' next time.
Applejack: Ah think she's added enough 'oomph' already. Maybe ye shoul'd stop Twi 'fore ya hurt you hurt yerself.
Twilight: Stop trying to learn magic? NEVER!
Multiple sighs are heard. We now see the Mane 6 with Harbinger standing in the middle of an open plain, next to a forest. Twilight is trying to learn one of the combat spells from the book she acquired. So far, all she achieved was getting herself tired.
Twilight: The book says this is one of the harder spells. Why is it so hard to perform then?
Rarity: Twilight I understand the rush but… wouldn't it be a lot easier if you were to start off from simpler ones?
Twilight: *gulp* The easier ones are *looks away hesitantly* they can kill a pony.
The five other mares look at her in shock.
Twilight: This spell is has the same purpose as the others – to kill, but I can use it for short distance travel as well. That's why I started from this.
Rarity: We- we understand. Sorry for interrupting you.
Twilight just smiled weakly. It was very hard for her to accept the fact that her idol, Starswirl the Bearded knew such horrifying spells, but she also knew that they were a product of the time when wars in Equestria were at every doorstep. She sighed and started charging the spell, the glow on her horn enveloped her body and it turned into a mass of purple energy. Twilight tried to focus her spell, but like every other time it ended up imploding on her and sending her flying a few feet back. The lavender mare was very angry. When the book was written, the part of the paper that said what to do after transforming into energy was missing, so she tried to improvise.
Harbinger: Perhaps you should try and move your body forward while transformed.
The unicorn was quick to dismiss him.
Twilight: No, no. It has to be something else. Maybe, *starts charging spell* if… I…focus, more.
Again she transformed into purple energy and like the first one hundred times, it imploded on her sending her flying.
Harbinger: That makes it one hundred one failed tries. Should I start counting for a world record?
Twilight: *angrily* Oh yeah? If you're so smart why don't you try it with your *sarcastically* Biotics?
The Reaper stood up and walked next to Twilight. He then concentrated his biotic energy. His body transformed into a ball of flame and in a blink of an eye he sped forward. It lasted only a second, but it was enough for Harbinger to end up one hundred feet away and leave the six mares slack jawed. He came back the same way. Twilight was staring, mouth wide open.
Harbinger: Concentrate, move your body forward and when you wish to stop just stop concentrating. This attack requires high precision in combat. Some adept individuals can even regenerate barriers and shields with this attack. It is called Biotic Charge.
Twilight: T-that's amazing! How did you do that?
Harbinger: Perhaps you should read the research logs written at the end of the book.
Twilight missed this part of the book because she was so eager to learn one of the spells. So now that Harbinger pointed that out, she grabbed the book, opened it near the end and found the research done on this attack.
Research Log: Charge
Year X003: This sure is a very complicated move to replicate, but I'm doing some good progress. It's been already three years since we banished 'The Harbinger' but something tells me he's not really gone. When I first saw him, everypony keeps calling him 'it' but I for some reason find it hard to use that word even for that monster. Anyways, I saw using this attack on a group of ponies. He also combined it with some kind of attack where he jumps in the air once he finishes the charge and he slams his hoof in the ground, causing a massive explosion. I'll research into that a little later, but for now I'm still occupied with trying to find out what am I doing wrong. The spell just keeps imploding on me, the Harbinger could move around the battlefield with it, it must be something simple.
Year X004: My health is deteriorating fast, the Harbinger injected me with something, most likely a virus of sorts. At first I didn't pay attention, thought it was just a cold. But now, there's no room for doubt, whatever he injected me with is killing me. I'm wasting too much paper. I finally realized what was wrong with the Charge spell, I need to move my body forward when in energy form, the same works if I move before I go into energy form. This spell must be performed quickly to make it more effective and less error prone. [A/N:In the original book, there was a bloodstain in this part of the page. But since this is acopy, the book doesn't have it] Oh dear, it's getting worse, I may not have much time left. The doctors estimated two more years. I may have to leave Clover in charge of the rest, it's high time I retired from magic research, I've lived far too long already…
Year X010: This is Clover the Clever writing, master Starswirl has gone to Elysium yesterday. The doctors gave him two years to live, yet he kept on for six. I was able to finish the research on this spell. You can finish the attack by cancelling the spell, it takes some time to get used to, but you can use the implosion to your advantage and once you can do it without being sent flying, you can clear large groups of enemies with just this attack alone. I also noticed that if you concentrate your attack on a target, it becomes a lot more easier to do it. You can also move through most object during the Charge, but don't try it on thick objects, I learned that the hard way when I busted my nose on a rock. I shouldn't be laughing right now, but master always told me to never be sad when he dies, so I'm not sad. [In the original there are tear spots on this part of the page, in the copy, they are no tears]
Twilight: *shocked*Y-you…You killed Starswirl the Bearded? It was your fault he died?
Harbinger: Back then, we never used any names to identify ourselves, but I do remember a certain old stallion. A very formidable adversary. And to answer your question, No, I did not kill him. I wanted to make him the personality matrix for the Pony-Reaper, so I merely injected him with a power dampener. It didn't work, I thought he was immune to it, but it appears to have had an adverse effect later on.
Twilight: *angry* H-he still died because of you.
Harbinger: He never would have lived to this day anyway.
The other mares who were sitting and watching stepped in for Twilight.
Rainbow Dash: Does it matter? You can't just kill somepony for no reason.
Pinkie: Yeah, being a big meanie pants and killing a pony, will never get you friends. But wait, aren't we his friends?
Harbinger: I do not consider you my friends. You are just acquaintances.
Pinkie was silent at that, outside she had a poker face. Inside she was very sad, a pony who didn't want to be her friend, it was like a heated metal rod placed on a Cutie Mark, very painful.
Applejack: Well, ya ain't done nothing to make a good impression. Ev'n this here book ya stole it bah trickin' us.
Fluttershy: U-um girls, I don't think we should argue now. He wasn't that bad.
Despite being the most terrified of him at start, Fluttershy had the easiest time accepting Harbinger, she knew that this was how he was. But her knowledge of animals told her, that even the most antisocial of creatures can change with some love and care. All it took was some time.
Harbinger: The past cannot be changed. Every small thing that happened in the past has an effect in the future. If he would have lived there was a chance that you six never would have met. Is it really worth fighting for a life lost years ago?
Twilight: You're right, that was in the past. I still can't forgive you for killing Starswirl the Bearded, but I might warm up a little if you teach me this spell.
The Reaper turned towards the woods.
Harbinger: I am not doing this to make you like me. I am merely teaching you the spell. The first time you use it, it will always go a long distance, so I will head into the forest. Count to six hundred and then charge in the direction I went to.
Harbinger used Biotic Charge to head into the woods. Since he was more skilled than Twilight with it, he had no problem going ahead several hundred feet into the woods. Twilight again focused her magic, but again it imploded on her, so she tried a different approach. She started running and when she concentrated her magic it worked, a little too well.
[In the Woods]
Harbinger stopped in place waiting for Twilight to charge into the forest. That didn't take long as a few seconds later a mass of purple energy rushed past him. He charged after her, suddenly he heard a crash and a splash. The Reaper stopped in front of a lake, there was a cliff on the other side with a large crack in it. The water was undulating, almost as if something fell into the lake. It didn't take long to connect the dots, Twilight crashed into the cliff, knocked herself unconscious and fell into the water. Harbinger jumped into the water and started looking for her. The worst part was that this was a rift lake and these lakes tended to be very deep. The Reaper pony, used thermal vision to spot her, she was at least thirty meters below. He used a Charge and quickly caught up with her, pulling both of them up. Harbinger took Twilight to shore placing her on the ground.
Harbinger: Unicorn, can you hear me?
No response. Checking her vitals he noticed one thing, she wasn't breathing. Defibrillation was out of question, so he used what he had left Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. He pressed his hooves on her chest and started pushing, next he pinched her nose closed with some bioticly levitated twigs and covered her mouth with his own and started pumping air in her lungs. He repeated it several times until she started spitting out water and woke up. She looked around and noticed Harbinger standing above her. She squeaked in surprise.
Twilight: W-what happened?
Harbinger: You Charged right into a cliff and fell into the lake, unconscious. I had to pull you out and use Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation.
Twilight: U-um thanks.
Suddenly realization hit her like a rocket powered steam roller. CPR? That means he had to breathe air into me? Twilight paled at her thoughts. CPR? Through the mouth? Her colors were by now completely drained from shock.
[Back with the rest of Mane 6]
Princess Celestia and Shepard were walking along with the five other mares. The sun princess came to give them an appropriate punishment for what they did in the Exhibit.
Fluttershy: *meekly*W-what are you going to make us do P-princess?
Celestia: *with an evil grin* You'll see.
The five mares gulped. Suddenly something caught their attention. It was an object moving in the sky. A brown and yellow object. It started getting bigger and bigger until… CRASH! The seven ponies looked at the object and noticed a familiar Reaper pony, with his head was in the ground from the landing, struggling to free himself. Everypony then started pulling him out and after a few tugs succeeded. Shepard looked at Harbinger with a smirk.
Shepard: So…what happened?
Harbinger: CPR.

*New Codex Entry Available*
Codex: Spike
Spike is a baby dragon formerly residing in Canterlot and currently in Ponyville, that was Twilight's little brother figure and Number One Assistant in both places. Spike was born during Twilight's entry exam for Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns and has been with her ever since. He has an ability to send away object via a magical green flame, believed by many to be unique, yet some speculate that there are other dragons that can do so as well. He has a very obvious crush on Rarity, which he believes is well hidden. So far Spike has no wings, yet it is believed that they will grow later. he As a dragon, he can have a massive growth spurt when greedy, yet it would take decades normally…
Author's Note: #1: Harbinger didn't give a damn about kissing Twilight, because he downgraded his Emotional Drives the day after he upgraded them.
#2: The way I describe Harbinger in the story makes him look like some disgusting bug in your imagination. I suck at drawing but I'll try to post an image of what I see him like. Contrary to what you might think, Harbinger is very attractive or even handsome if you don't look at his more buggy features and the four eyes.
#3: I played Mass Effect: Leviathan so it was confirmed that Harbinger is the first Reaper (a Leviathan Reaper) and he was most likely evil under the Catalyst, but under Shepard like what I describe him, he is a lot more tolerant and kind, so I think I didn't make him OOC even in the least. I hate the Leviathan, but I like Harbinger.
#4: The next two chapter will set the stage for the next arc of the story, as well as for my new fanfic Code G.B.
