Chapter 1: Warm Reward

Warm Reward

A blue unicorn sat at a polished oak table in the middle of Golden Oaks library, her heavy head barely held aloft by the two hooves supporting it. The words on the page before her blurred as her eyelids commanded themselves shut, and the hooves momentarily lost their tenuous grip as her head lolled forward.

Trixie snorted as she caught herself seconds before making fast and painful contact with the desk. She shook her head, breaking a strand of saliva that was currently making its slow descent from her lips. Rubbing her eyes, she leaned back from the desk. Her flanks had grown numb from their extended contact with the hard, wooden floor below. She shivered suddenly, her tired body already beginning to reduce internal heat as it prepared itself for it’s much sought after sleep. With a yawn, Trixie decided to grant its desire.

Wincing as she stretched her stiff legs, she turned towards the stairs leading to the library’s bedroom.  A smile spread slowly across her face as she recalled the lavender mare that awaited her in the cosy, warm bed that was now calling to her.

As she climbed what now felt like a never-ending set of stairs, she pondered Twilight’s ability to read so late into the night on a regular basis. Trixie had found the task tremendously tedious, and she wondered where Twilight found the steam to keep her eyes open for so long staring at tiny black text on a white page. Trixie’s vision was filled with swimming letters as she staggered up the stairs.

Upon reaching the front door of the bedroom, she placed a careful hoof on the door, pushing it open with gentle ease. She did not want to wake the sleeping beauty that lay awaiting her below the plush duvets of the bed, as that would defeat the entire purpose of her last few hours work, and she wanted to witness her reward, the rare event of seeing Twilight Sparkle’s stunning sleeping form, a sight she had witnessed precious few occasions in the past, as the unicorn was typically the first awake and the last to bed.

Creeping into the room with the care of a pony walking on thin ice, Trixie slowly approached her prize. She had to pause for a moment as she reached the bed, allowing her eyes to adjust to the dim light in the room provided by the moon and stars outside.  The outline of the bed eventually formed before in her vision, along with the gentle sound of Twilight’s peaceful breathing as she slept. A curved figure was visible under the blankets before her, meaning she now had to journey to the other side of the bed.

Creeping around the slumbering bookworm, Trixie approached the empty side of the large bed, observing the slow rise and fall of the duvet that blanketed her purple partner. She placed a hoof on the sheets before her, and experienced the delightful cool temperature on their exterior, which promised the perfect snug comfort to be expected within.

Pulling the sheets slowly aside, Trixie lifted herself onto the mattress. She felt a pleasant tingling as the hairs of her coat brushed across the cool, uninhabited section of the bed. She caught herself seconds before releasing a moan of delight as she pulled the thick covers up to her chin, remembering the snoozing unicorn that now lay face to face with her.

Trixie’s heart swelled as she took in the perfect sight of a sleeping Twilight Sparkle. Her lips were curved into content smile as she softly inhaled and exhaled through her nostrils. Her deep, purple fringe fell to one side, perfectly revealing the face that Trixie had fallen in love with. The pillow beneath her head was gently creased where a single hoof rested before her chin.

Trixie was overcome by the desire to reach out a hoof to that perfect face, longing for the soft touch of Twilight’s sleek coat against her limb. She debated the action internally, struggling to decide whether the action was work the risk of upsetting Twilight’s peaceful slumber, but the longer Trixie gazed upon the portrait of a face before her, the easier the decision became.

Slowly, and with the utmost care, Trixie pulled her hoof from beneath the sheets and began to slowly extend it towards Twilight’s purple cheek. Hesitating as her hoof lingered less than an inch from its goal, she inhaled slowly as she made contact with her cheek.  Applying as little force as possible, she rested the hoof upon that stunning face, the warmth of Twilight’s cheek resonating across its surface. She stroked her cheek gently, the loving smile on her face stretching across her  cheeks as she did so, her heart swelling more with each passing moment. She could not tell if she imagined it, but she swore she could see the smile on Twilight’s own face widen as well.

So lost was Trixie in her adoration that she did not notice another hoof make it’s way from below the covers until it was touching her own. She felt a pang of disappointment as she witnessed the purple hoof lay itself across her own. It seems her greedy actions had indeed disrupted Twilight’s sleep.

However, it took only moments for Trixie’s regret to be banished as two lavender eyes revealed themselves from beneath their thin shields. Two fantastic, deep black orbs gazed back at her. This time, Trixie was sure of the wide grin that spread across the lips below them.

“Hi,” Twilight whispered, her voice piercing the absolute silence of the dark night.

“Hey there,” Trixie responded, stroking the cheek beneath her hoof once again. Twilight responded by placing a hoof on her lovers chest. Trixe then leaned in to plant a soft kiss on the purple unicorn’s forehead. This was followed by Twilight returning the kiss on Trixie’s lips briefly, before curling her two hooves around the magician’s chest and resting her head against it. Trixie ran a hoof through the silky strands of Twilight’s mane as she pressed up against her.

“How did you enjoy late night studying?” Twilight enquired.

“Hmm, I certainly wouldn’t use the word enjoy to describe it, but this made it worthwhile,” Trixie answered.

“What did?” Twilight looked up puzzled at the blue unicorn holding her.

“Seeing you asleep! I was convinced for a while that you didn’t actually do it,” she answered with a grin, gazing down at the curious mare.

“You’ve seen me asleep plenty of times.”

“Not for a while, I thought you may have given up on it, deciding it was too time consuming. That’s why I offered to finish your work tonight, I wanted to see if you actually still did it,” Trixie’s teasing tone matched the smirk on her face as she explained her logic.

“And there I was thinking you were just being generous,” Twilight smirked in response.

“When did you become a fool?” Trixie teased in return.

“I would get a lot more work done, but I wouldn’t ever give up sleeping.”

“Why not?”

“Because then I couldn’t wake up next to you again.”

“Bleh!” Trixie exclaimed, opening her mouth in feigned disgust. “When did you get so corny?”

“Excuse me! You were the one who just kissed me on the forehead!”

Trixie blushed as she recalled her earlier demonstration of amorous affection, the sight of a waking Twilight had caught her off guard. She struggled to find a rebuttal, her lips moving in an attempt to release words her brain had not yet found. Twilight giggled at the magician’s dumbfounded expression. She put a hoof to Trixie’s lips.

“It was very sweet,” Twilight told her, moving her hoof back to Trixie’s chest. “Its a little side of you that I love seeing when it appears.”

“All of Trixie’s sides are a pleasure to witness,” she replied as she regained her composure, a grin once again spreading across her lips. She soon felt her cocksure attitude melt away once again as those two hypnotic purple eyes made contact with her own. Twilight’s pupils seemed to be a mirror into the brilliant unicorn’s mind, two large black orbs holding astronomical levels of intelligence and magic. Trixie believed she could see the intense levels of sorcery trying to escape from its spherical cages. These stunning, deep, almost intimidating, powerful eyes seemed out of place set into the warm, affectionate face, with the two soft curving lips smiling below them, they were home to. Trixie once again felt cast under the unconscious spell that Twilight held over her, time and space ceasing to exist around her as she lost herself in those endless onyx circles.

She was drawn from her stupor by those curving lips bringing themselves in contact with her own. She closed her eyes and breathed deep through her nostrils, her sinuses being washed by the sweet, flowery scent of Twilight’s mane. Her skin felt flushed against the heat of Twilight’s body pushed against her own, and she found herself squeezing her hooves tight around the mare that lay within them, tingles running down her extremities as every facet of her body approved of the perfect comfort of the moment. While brief, the kiss still managed to leave the unique taste of Twilight’s lips in her mouth.

Trixie felt dizzy as Twilight broke the kiss, her mind reeling from the sensory overload. The next couple of words that came out of her mouth did so without any authorization from her brain, her very being deciding that they simply needed to be said at that very moment.

“I love you Twilight,” she whispered.

“I love you too Trixie,” Twilight returned, pulling her head into her partner’s chest once again.
