Trixie's Time in Canterlot

It had been a short while after the events in Ponyville, and Trixie was tired out from everything that had happened. From the Ursa Minor destroying her caravan, props and favorite hat and cape to the three ponies that had hassled her, apparently not realizing her boasting was part of her act which she was determined to keep until she could leave. The only one she really liked of the ponies she met in Ponyville was a purple unicorn named Twilight Sparkle, sure she had shown up Trixie but before then she seemed like an alright pony albeit a bit on the shy side.

But all that was behind Trixie now, she was back where she belonged. In the mountain side castle town of Canterlot, plenty of opportunities to make enough money to get her a new caravan and a new outfit as well as being the one place she could actually be herself instead of having to pick out a new mask every other town. Mostly because she was raised in this area and everypony knew how to tell she was lying or just being boastful.

Being back in the castle town brought back some memories, her first show when she was a filly, her mother and father getting her into Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns, her first crush. Wait crush? Why was she thinking of that? Never mind, she just let the thought go and kept on her original path to an old inn where a good friend of hers worked.

As she entered the inn most of the ponies didn't seem to notice, which was fine since she was not in the best of moods right now having walked the entire way up to Canterlot from Ponyville. She approached the counter and waved to a pegasus that worked there.

"Hey Blitzy, how's it going?"

"Oh, hey Trixie, you know I don't like that nickname..." Blitz replied.

"Yeah yeah, so you say. It's just adding a 'Y' to the end of your name." Trixie teased playfully.

"Whatever, so what are you doing back in town already? Didn't you just leave for Ponyville or something?"

"Just a Minor accident, wound up losing most of my stuff including my lucky hat and cape." Trixie said with a sigh.

"So, the Ursa Major story finally caught up to ya?"

"How do you know that?"

"I was on a night flight a bit ago, saw an Ursa of some kind in the middle of Ponyville and guessed it was somehow your fault" Blitz teased.

"It was not my fault, just a couple admirers decided to bring an Ursa Minor to my front door and see me vanquish it... Wait, if you knew this why'd you ask what I was doing back already? Better yet, why didn't you come and help me!?" Trixie stared angrily at him for a bit.

"Uhh, well I was going to dive on in and help, but I saw the Ursa start floating and a purple blob of magic so I thought it was already being handled. And for why I asked you about being back, just curious about what your story would be for that tale..." Blitz nervously smiled at Trixie.

"You can be a real jerk sometimes Blitzy."

"Yeah, I know. So, Great and Powerful Trixie, you want the usual room or something else in mind?"

"Just a regular room this time, don't have enough bits to cover much besides a few nights and a meal right now. Just be ready for tomorrow when I'll have enough to buy this inn." Trixie said with her usual flair and confidence.

"Good to see you're back to your normal self Trix, and just for tonight your room's on the house." Blitz said with a smile and wink.

"Heh, you know the Great and Powerful Trixie doesn't swing that way Blitzy." Trixie giggled a bit at his playful flirt.

"Yeah, but it never hurts to keep trying. Besides, it's fun to mess with you Trix. Your room's still free though, just because you're a pretty good friend if a bit too boastful at times."

"Thanks Blitzy, the Great and Powerful Trixie appreciates any help she can get."

"Would you mind cooling it with the whole third-person-speak thing? It's kinda weird, and you're drawing quite a bit of attention to yourself." Blitz motioned behind Trixie who saw that pretty much everypony in the inn was staring at her. While she would normally enjoy and expect this sort of attention she didn't care for it at this moment.

"I think I'm just going to go to my room, which one is it?" Trixie said in a soft voice.

"Second on the right just up the stairs, if you need anything just give a shout." Blitz said, sliding a key across the counter over to her. Trixie just nodded and trotted up to her room, eager to get a good night's sleep and plan out her shows in town.

Trixie stirred from her sleep, a beam of light hitting her eyes through the window. She shielded her eyes and got out of bed, being sure to make the bed after she was out. It was a brand new day in Canterlot, and much like her first show she'd be a regular street performer except this time she had a lot more magic to work with and a lot more confidence.

She wasn't sure why she'd felt so shy last night but decided to pay it no mind, probably just her being tired. After waking up she made her way down through the inn and out the door, giving a goodbye wave to her friend before walking out the door. She began her search for the perfect spot, lots of traffic but not too much so she could perform without interruption and be able to gather a good sized crowd.

She eventually settled on an area in the park where a few other beginner magicians and street performers were at, confident she'd outshine them all with her acts. She found her area, trotted away from it after leaving a mark on the ground. Sure enough some ponies wondered what the mark was and walked right over to it, more curious ponies gathered around the others and soon a small crowd formed just to see that Trixie had wrote "Watch this spot" on the ground.

Trixie smiled slyly and focused her magic, first conjuring smoke on the spot causing the crowd to move back a bit from surprise then she focused even more until she teleported herself into the middle of the smoke, clearing it in an instant. She stood proud as ever and made her grand entrance.

"Fillies and Gentlecolts, feast your eyes on the wonder and mystique of The Great and Powerful Trixie!" She sent up a few lights in the sky that mimicked her usual fireworks as she reared up on her hind legs and stomped them to the ground. Anypony in the park that wasn't already in the crowd was slowly gathering to see the display.

She started simple, a few light illusions and flowers appearing out of thin air then when she felt the crowd was at it's fullest she kicked it up a notch. She looked into the sky and shot up a bit of her magical energy, clouds seemed to gather instantly without any pegasus around. The whole area was darkened slightly, allowing Trixie to create lights that everypony could see easily. First was the tale of the Ursa Major, then the tale of the ferocious dragon and finally a lovers tale between a great silvery blue unicorn and a powerful purple unicorn.

The ponies in the crowd that knew Trixie knew the first two were completely made up and got a few giggles out of the others that seemed to believe Trixie and the ones that were looking jealous of her for having such magic to begin with. Though they were confused at the last tale, never before had she made up a love story. One thing was certain, even though the stories were probably made up the special effects and effort put into each bit of magic was amazing. Everypony started putting their coins onto the spot that Trixie had marked and since moved off of.

As the day went on Trixie had exhausted most of her magic and decided to end it in a bang. She gathered the last bits of her magic and lifted herself into the sky just enough to make everypony look up. Her horn burned a bit from the excessive  use of her magic but she went on and created a small boom in the sky, a rainbow shooting out in a circle in the sky much like a sonic rainboom that cleared all the clouds she had drawn in to help with the lighting. She dropped down to the ground, being careful not to hurt herself and gave a bow to the crowd.

"The Great and Powerful Trixie thanks you all for your time and wishes you all a fond farewell." She gathered up the money on the ground in front of her as well as on the spot where it was originally gathering and she teleported back to her room at the inn. Trixie was exhausted and collapsed on the bed, head and horn hurting from so much magic usage at once. But she knew it was all worth it, the money she had gathered was all over the floor but better there than back at the park.

There was a knock on the door and a familiar voice to go along with it.

"You back yet Trix?" Blitz asked from the other side of the door.

"Yes I'm back Blitz, just tired out right now."

"You do realize most ponies use the doors when going into a building right?" Blitz laughed a bit and Trixie groaned.

"Perhaps, but I was in the middle of a crowd and wanted to get back as soon as I could."

"Whatever, you make enough to buy the inn yet?"

"Probably, why don't you come in and see for yourself? You've got the key after all."

Blitz unlocked and entered Trixie's room, his jaw dropping a bit after seeing a load of Bits on the floor and Trixie looking victorious.

"Well then, guess you'll be buying a caravan and hat then going back on the road soon."

"Don't forget the cape that matches the hat." Trixie teased. "And yes I will be, sure it might only be a small caravan from the look of my haul but that's better than nothing."

"Alright, well rest up Trix. You look terrible right now, what kind of finisher did you do?"

"Just something I whipped up at the last moment."

Blitz shrugged and left Trixie to let her rest, leaving the key on the dresser in the room.

Trixie rested for a long while, it was almost closing time for most of the shops but luckily the ones she needed were almost always open for her. She made her way down and out of the inn after brushing out her bedmane and borrowed a pillowcase to haul her money in as she made her way to the tailor's.

She commissioned a hat and cape, using magic to show the design in her head since the original was destroyed. She paid and left, assuring the tailor that she'd be back as soon as she took care of her last bit of business in town. She came to a carpenter's shop and smiled as she entered, noticing the nice looking caravans outside.

"Good evening, I'd like to buy one of those handsome caravans if you're interested in selling them."

"Of course I am Trixie, so long as you got the money." The earth pony behind the counter smiled at her friend.

"Carrie is that you?" Trixie asked with a bright smile.

"Yup, been a while Trixie." Carrie lept over the counter and gave her friend a big hug and Trixie hugged back.

"I know, since when are you the caravan carpenter around here?" Trixie smiled and let go of her friend.

"Not too much longer since you left the first time actually, your old caravan was my graduation test if I remember right."

"Oh, well sorry that I don't have it anymore, ran into a bit of trouble in my last town."

"Yeah yeah, Blitz told me all about it. That colt can never keep a secret I swear."

"I sorta figured he'd tell someone, did you happen to catch my show?"

"Sure did, who's the lucky filly that caught your eye?"

"W-what do you mean? Trixie asked, caught off guard.

"You know what I'm talking about, your little lovey dovey story about the great and the powerful yadda yadda. Pretty sure that's a new one, and them both being unicorns, both being fillies and one having your color pattern. You made it kinda obvious." Carrie said with a bit of a giggle at her blushing friend.

"Oh, that... Well you know I make up stories all the time, figured a romance would be nice instead of always with the action."

"So you made up a story about you falling in love?"

"Uhh... n-not really..." Trixie began to feel very nervous.

"Come on Trixie, you know I won't judge you. And can keep a better secret than "Mr pegasus with a  mouth faster than lightning" Blitz."

Trixie sighed and nodded,  "Thanks Carrie, her name was Twilight Sparkle."

"You mean Celestia's personal student?"

Trixie was taken aback at that question. "Was she?"

"All I know is a purple unicorn, known for being a bit reclusive and more into books than friends until recently is the Princess's personal student."

Trixie's mouth was agape at that. "No wonder she was so powerful, being trained by the Princess herself."

"You mean that whole thing with the Ursa Minor and her soothing it and carrying it back to it's den was all true?"

"Yeah, didn't realize I recounted the whole event but yes that really happened."

"Wow, if you do wind up with her promise that you won't go on a rampage. Something tells me if the both of you were together and on a rampage then only Luna and Celestia themselves would be able to stop you." Carrie giggled and nudged Trixie who just giggled at her friend.

"Aww, not even a little rampage?" Trixie teased and nudged Carrie playfully.

"No rampage for you Missy." Carrie giggled and reached behind the counter, pulling a few papers out and putting them up on the counter. "Anyway, back to business. Here's the prices of the caravans I have available, pick out whatever one you want."

Trixie browsed the different models and picked out a small but quality made caravan that fit her budget. She handed Carrie the pillowcase of Bits and waved as she left for the tailors once again. "Be sure Blitz gets that back, wouldn't want him getting in too much trouble. He does that enough on his own." Trixie giggled as she exited the shop.

Back at the tailors she picked up her order, hat just as she remembered it and cape fitting her just as before. She have the tailor a hug before leaving as a thank you for making the magician's outfit perfectly.

Trixie went to her new caravan and checked it out, everything seemed in order, she hitched herself to it and started pulling. Back on the road and off for more adventures, at least that's what she'd have the towns believing. She was stopped at the gates of the castle town by her friends Blitz and Carrie.

"Not even going to say goodbye Trix?"

"Sorry, couldn't keep him grounded so I just followed him here."

"It's alright Carrie and Blitz I was going to say goodbye, just in my own way." Trixie winked at him and giggled, pointing to the sky over the inn where a bunch of lights suddenly appeared.

"Farewell my friends in Canterlot, you'll always be in my heart as I travel. Signed The Great and Powerful Trixie" Blitz read aloud, a tear flowed down his cheek as he read it.

"Feel better now, you big cryfilly?" Trixie teased playfully with a nudge.

"Oh yeah, much better. And I wasn't crying, you little jerk." Blitz stared angrily at Trixie for a bit then just laughed and patted her on the back. "Have a good trip, and go get your girl. Otherwise I might just have a quick flight down to Ponyville and see your special little filly myself." He teased.

"Oh no you won't, Carrie, ground him please."

Carrie giggled and jumped on top of Blitz, causing him to fall to the ground and be pinned under her.

"Hey, no fair." Blitz whined.

"All's fair in love and war Blitz, remember that." Trixie giggled and kissed both of her friends on the cheek and started galloping away with her caravan in tow.

She ran down the side of the mountain and down to the town where she'd been shown up and had her old caravan smashed by a rampaging Ursa Minor, the place where her love interest lived and hopefully the place she'd find a good restaurant because during the whole day at Canterlot she'd forgotten to eat more than an apple for breakfast.

She realized why she thought of her first crush back in Canterlot, because it was when she was a little filly and just starting out in Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns and she'd seen a bookish and cute classmate. During her entire time at that school she'd pushed herself to be better than everypony else to try and get that filly's attention, that purple reclusive and cute unicorn that Trixie always thought of when trying new magic. Twilight Sparkle, she knew she recognized that filly from somewhere and she was going to take a chance and hope that she'd not made too big a fool of herself in front of Twilight or her friends.

"Only one way to find out I suppose."

A Restless Night's Sleep

As she neared the town of Ponyville fatigue had finally caught up with her, mostly thanks to her dragging her new caravan at full speed down the side of a mountain without stopping on an empty stomach. She had tired herself out leaving her in the middle of the road just outside Ponyville. Her panting heavy and sweat dripping from her mane, she decided to stop and rest for what remained of the night and for once hoped she wouldn't gather too much attention.

"There's no way I'd be able to perform if a crowd forms here, not to mention a few certain ponies that might be holding a bit of a grudge..." She thought out loud to herself before letting out a sigh and unhitching herself from her caravan. "Guess I'll deal with whatever happens tomorrow." She entered the caravan and laid down on the bed inside, nice and comfortable just like a good room at the Canterlot Inn. Trixie's eyes weighed heavy and she found herself humming a lullaby she heard as a young filly, "Hush now quiet now it's time to...*yawn* lay your sleepy head..." Her eyes closed slowly and she fell asleep peacefully.

****

"Trixie, wake up! It's time to get ready for your big day!"

The blue unicorn woke up and found herself in her bedroom, and Celestia's sun beaming in her eyes thanks to her mother drawing the curtains from the window.

"Aww, c'mon mom, can't I sleep in? It's just an entrance exam, pretty sure I can handle it."

"No, now come downstairs for your breakfast. Your father and I made you something special." She said with a wink as she left.

Trixie was curious about what they had made, mostly because as far as she remembered her father never cooked anything. She couldn't help but giggle as she imagined a kitchen splattered with eggs and toast or whatever they were cooking.

After combing her mane and brushing her teeth, Trixie climbed down the stairs and entered the dining room where she was greeted by a loud "Surprise!" from her two best friends and father, her mother coming from the kitchen with not only a cake but a couple of wrapped packages.

"Umm, it's not my birthday is it?" Trixie asked with a confused look.

"Nah, but it's very important anyway hun." Her father said with a proud smile. "I just love setting surprises you know, and since I know you'll ace the entrance exam to Celestia's private school I thought we'd celebrate a little early."

Trixie smirked and held herself with a air of elegance, "Well of course I will, but still it seems a bit inappropriate to celebrate Trixie's excellence before she's had a chance to show it."

A young yellow earth pony filly with a light blue mane sighed and shook her head, "She's doing that thing again where she says her own name while talking about herself."

A young light brown pegasus colt with a white mane nudged the earth pony, "C'mon, she's probably just nervous."

Trixie nodded and sighed, "It's true, Trixie is nervous about her exam. Though she probably wouldn't be this nervous if it weren't for somepony throwing her a surprise party."

She glared at her father who just shrugged it off and sighed. "Yeah, my bad on that one sweetie. Still, have some cake and check out what I made you for your presents."

"You made me something? You're a magician, dad, not a guy that makes things."

"I make things all the time, just most of the time they're illusions. It's part of my Great and Wonderful  magic act, but I've always been able to sew a little something together when I need it. Definitely helps when I was on the road and my costumes got torn."

Trixie gulped and took a look at the presents on the table near the cake, one was clearly a hat box while the other was a rectangular shape, no way of telling what exactly would be in either though. She took them both down using levitation magic and set them down next to her.

"Lazy, couldn't just get up close to them, eh?" The pegasus teased playfully.

"Of course not Blitz, if these presents are trapped, and I wouldn't put it past my dad to do that, then I'd fall and hurt something."

Her parents just laughed softly to themselves as they watched their little unicorn tear open the presents and her father smiled proudly as he heard a gasp from the little filly.

"Wow, dad this is...wow."

"I told you I could sew, not that hard compared to being a magician, and I know you've been wanting to be my assistant for a while."

Trixie giggled and nodded, "Yeah, so does this mean I can?"

"Sure kiddo, after completing your school work at Celestia's School for Gifted Unicorns, I'll take you out on the road with me."

Trixie cheered and put on the purple hat and cloak, both adorned by stars and the neck of the cloak joined by a shining gemstone. She posed proudly and raised a hoof, as if addressing a crowd, and as if by magic a crowd appeared and Trixie was up on a stage in the middle of Canterlot's park, slightly older than before. "Welcome one and all to The Great and Powerful Trixie's magical debut in Canterlot!"

A loud cheer could be heard throughout the area, many of her schoolmates had come to see their friend's exhibition. They knew she was the head of the class in many areas, but Illusion magic was her specialty. A purple unicorn who was in the park earlier watching from afar with a book out in front of her.

"Now, feast your eyes on the Wonderful magic Trixie has in store for you all!" She created a bouquet of flowers from thin air and tossed them out to the crowd with her magic, as the flowers reached the middle of the crowd they burst into a plume of colorful fire that slowly became a multicolored dragon and flew high into the sky and exploding in a marvelous display of technique and grace.

Trixie's show after that was amazing, though she didn't quite remember all of it for some reason. It all seemed to go by so fast, but the show had been done and she was resting in the park behind the stage, head pounding from using so much magic. The purple unicorn from earlier came over from her reading spot and rested next to Trixie.

"Hmm? If you wouldn't mind, Trixie has a bit of a headache right now..."

"Oh, sorry. Just wanted to come and say your display was fantastic. So many illusions I hadn't seen before, not even in the Princess' private collection of books. Though I have been neglecting Illusion magic recently..."

"Wait wait wait, you're the Princess' own student?"

"Uhh, yeah..."

"What are you doing here then? Doesn't Celestia have something for you to study?"

"I am, she's asked me to study this book about the elements of harmony in the park today." She motioned to the book in her saddlebag.

"Really? I'm sure she has a reason, can't say I know what though." Trixie smiled at the purple unicorn. "Mind if I ask, what's your name? You're semi famous around the school, but my head's hurting too much to really remember."

"Oh, uhh well... My name is, Twilight Sparkle. I'm going to guess that your name isn't really The Great and Powerful Trixie is it?"

"Not yet, just Trixie for now. But I'm working toward earning that title."

"I think your name's just fine as it is, Trixie's a nice name." Twilight said with a bit of a blush.

"Thanks, but the title would still help. I'm going to be a traveling magician you see, just like my dad." Trixie smiled and looked up at the sky, slowly turning orange from the lowering sun. "Looks like it's getting late, probably should head home."

"Yeah, mind if I stay with you? My room's being renovated, since I accidentally blew up a few crystals while practicing my scrying." Twilight dug at the ground a bit and looked down after saying that.

"Sure, my roommate's gone for the week so I've got a spare bed in my dorm room."

"Why do you have a dorm room?"

"Because, I couldn't stand being woken up by my mom and dad all the time, and my dad's a bit of a prankster."

Twilight nodded and smiled, "Lead the way, Great and Poweful Trixie." Trixie giggled and nudged her new friend, after which they both got up and started walking down the road toward the school. The scenery changed slowly, the school and road melting and morphing into the middle of town at night. Trixie was with her earth pony and pegasus friends, Carrie and Blitz.

"This will be the best prank ever!" Carrie stifled her giggling as she waited for the target.

"Who's the unlucky filly this time sis?" Blitz asked as he readied the balloon launcher and water balloons from the air.

"Some unicorn from Trixie's school. All I know is she's purple, two toned hair and usually seen with a book, and she's being sent by someone in the school to pick up an order from the Barns and Noble bookstore. Weird name for a store by the way."

"Two toned hair and usually seen with a book, oh no. That's Twilight, you can't prank her!" Trixie snapped at Carrie quietly.

"Twilight who? Your new little filly friend?" Carrie teased.

Trixie blushed and grew angry at her for that, "I am not a filly fooler Carrie, and she's just a friend."

"Hey you two alright?" Blitz asked, barely able to hear the two argue.

"Don't worry about it Blitzy, just keep doing what you're doing." Carrie said, waving her hoof in a dismissive fashion at the pegasus.

"I can see the target, whenever you give the signal I'll launch the balloons."

Trixie scowled at Carrie, "Don't do this Carrie, if you do I will never speak to you again."

Carrie sighed and nodded, "Alright, I won't do it. For you, Trixie."

"Do it for Trixie?" Blitz called down and shrugged. "Alright then." Blitz took aim and let the balloons fly, and his jaw dropped as he saw something awe inspiring. A huge purple glow was flowing from the unicorn he had fired at, and all the balloons had stopped in mid air, turned around and seemed to be heading straight for them. "This can't be good..."

"Blitz you idiot!" Trixie yelled quietly at him as she jumped out from the hiding area, using her own levitation powers to stop the balloons in their tracks and forcing them to break.

Twilight stared in confusion, the pony she thought was her friend seemed to be on the same side as the one who had attacked her. Her head hurt and she cried out, glowing and levitating along with many other items littering the street. "How could you, Trixie? I thought you were my friend!" Twilight called out as she picked up the trio of ponies and forced them against a wall of a building.

"I was- I mean I am, Twi. I didn't know it was you they were going to prank..." Trixie tried to explain.

"Prank? Those things looked like they were going to hurt me!"

"Only a little, otherwise they were just water balloons."

"Only water balloons?" Twilight calmed down, the glow vanishing as she set the trio of ponies down. All of whom were shaking from the scene they had witnessed. Twilight had tears in her eyes and fell to the ground.

"I'm so so so so sorry! I just lost control of my powers for a bit there..."

"That's how much power she has? Yikes, that girl's a time bomb." Blitz exclaimed before covering his mouth with a hoof. "That came out wrong."

"It's alright Twi, you just need to learn to control your powers better." Trixie tried to comfort the weeping unicorn.

"You don't understand, my powers have been under control until now... before I had a friend and before I thought you betrayed me I was in perfect control."

"Obviously not, otherwise you wouldn't have had that outburst." Commented Carrie.

Trixie shot her a look before getting up and hugging Twilight, "I'm so sorry Twilight, you deserve better friends than me." Trixie cried and ran off, leaving her friends behind with Twilight.

The scene once again changed, it had been a few years since that day and The Great and Powerful Trixie had claimed her title after proving it to everypony. There was a bit of a sting in her heart concerning Canterlot, but she couldn't remember the exact details of why she ran in the first place. Just that she'd left a few notes with her parents and her friends explaining everything, she wished she had kept a copy or at least something to remember now. But she had other plans at the moment, and couldn't let her mind wander too much.

She was just about to perform at a little town outside Canterlot, being a bit homesick and wanting to slip by without letting too many ponies know other than those inside the town of course. The town of Ponyville, she had been inside it once just to scout out the area. For being so close to the capitol of Equestria the ponies were a lot different, she saw a pink maned yellow pegasus caring for animals, a curly maned, pink pony helping a  blueish gray, yellow maned pegasus deliver baked goods of all sorts.

From what she could tell, this was a very friendly town, probably one that hasn't seen much in the ways of magic other than the mundane tasks that every unicorn can do. Perfect for her to show off her awesome powers and make a good amount of money. She chose an area close to the town hall, but far off enough that nopony would be unable to pass by her caravan once she had moved it into the city.

As the night came, Trixie moved her caravan slowly and quietly into the city. Making sure to have the correct side facing outwards. She was certain nopony noticed her moving it which made it all the better because once somepony notices the caravan surely they will gather a crowd just wondering where it came from. The air of mystery is all it takes sometimes.

Day broke as she woke from her rest, there were voices outside the caravan. Many voices, all wondering about the mysterious caravan without anyone really getting close to it, just as planned. Trixie gathered her gear and started the countdown until the caravan would fold out into a stage. But then, there was a rumble and the caravan's side just fell off instead of turning into a stage, and there was the purple unicorn she hadn't seen in years.

"Oh, hey. Twilight, it's been a while..." Trixie laughed nervously as the purple unicorn levitated her and the caravan.

"Yes, and I've gotten much more powerful since then, you on the other hoof seem to have lost power." A weirdly malicious tone was in Twilight's voice.

"What does that have to do with anything?" Trixie wondered aloud.

"Not much really, just that I can finally have my revenge for all those years ago when you attacked me!"

"That wasn't me that was my friends!"

"Ah yes, friends you say. Friends you didn't stop, friends you protected from me!" Trixie felt a magical grip around her throat as twilight's voice darkened further and the once normal looking unicorn grew taller than Celestia herself.

"I tried!"

"You failed, and you betrayed my friendship. You will pay for that..." The grip around trixie's throat tightened, her caravan being obliterated as the world crumbled around her being replaced by purple energy and darkness until there was nothingness all around.

****

Trixie awoke from her nightmare with a shriek, back in her new caravan parked outside Ponyville. Panting and sweating, making sure everything was alright and her suspicions were correct. It was all just a dream, terrible but still only a dream.

"Maybe I should wait, just a little longer until I'm certain she won't blow up. Then again, she looked more interested in not showing her powers last time so maybe she's really nice." She sighed and laid back down on the bed, dawn barely breaking over the horizon.

"I wish I really did know that filly like in my dreams, at most I think we were class mates..." Trixie yawned and sighed. "Stupid dream..." She closed her eyes and felt herself start to drift off again, until the sun hit her eyes, and without curtains to draw on the inside of the caravan she couldn't help but stay awake. "Guess there's no sleeping in today either, oh well. It's a big day, just hope I'm ready for it."

Trixie brushed her mane and donned her new hat and cloak, undeterred by her nightmares to seek out the unicorn that caught her interest. "I may not be the most powerful, but I am the greatest unicorn in Equestria. I will at least get a date with that filly." Trixie stood tall, ready to go out and into the town where she had just came from, the town where her old caravan, outfit and magical devices were all smashed and she had been made a fool of, a town that probably wouldn't want her back. She paid no mind to any of that and started out, ready to face anything or anypony in her way, she felt almost ready to take on an Ursa Major for real this time if only to spend some time with her special pony.

Twilight's Spell

Trixie was just about to enter the town of Ponyville for the first time since the incident with the Ursa Minor. To her surprise everything looked pretty well as it did the first time she had entered the town as The Great and Powerful Trixie, even the wreckage that was her old caravan was no longer there. She took a few steps forward before a bubbly pink pony had come up to greet her.

"Hi, I'm Pinkie Pie, I haven't seen you before which probably means you've never been in town before or I was busy and just haven't seen you which is likely because I did have quite a few orders to fill out the last few days. So, what's your name new friend?" Pinkie smiled wide at Trixie as she awaited her answer.

"Umm, well my name is..." Trixie looked down and blushed a bit, she hadn't seen this pony before but surely she would have heard about the Ursa incident a few days ago. "Don't worry about my name, I'm just passing through and probably won't even be staying a day in town..."

"Aww, that's no fun. I won't force you to tell me your name, but please at least try some of my tasty treats. I work and live over at Sugar Cube Corner..." Suddenly Pinkie Pie started shuddering as she talked. "Woah... my Pinkie senses are saying there's going to be a doozy soon..."

"Pinkie senses? Surely you must be joking." Trixie said with her eyebrow cocked.

Pinkie stopped shaking and giggled, "No I'm not, I can't explain it it's just I have different twitches that supposedly predict the future and they haven't been wrong yet."

"Huh, well where exactly is this 'doozy' supposed to take place then?"

"I'm not sure actually, it's feeling like it's somewhere in town but at the same time it feels like it's somewhere really far away."

Trixie shook her head and sighed, "Whatever, if you don't mind I think I'm just going to go on my way."

"Okie dokie lokie, anywhere in particular you heading or just wandering around?"

"If you must know, I'm here to see a friend of mine called Twilight Sparkle..."

"You're a friend of Twilight's!?" Pinkie hugged Trixie tight and started bouncing. "I'm one of Twilight's bestest best friends and any friend of Twilight's is a friend of mine!"

Trixie giggled at the bouncing pony, "Well then, would you mind helping me find her? I haven't seen her place here in town yet."

"M'kay, just follow me!" Pinkie kept bouncing as she made her way into town with Trixie following behind her.

"How are you bouncing like that? Surely you must get tired quickly?" Trixie inquired.

"Nope, I'm just a bubbly bouncy pony especially when I make a new friend."

"Oh, well that's nice. Glad to have you as a friend, Pinkie was it?"

"Mmhmm, that's my name, feel free to use it as much as you want."

"I'll keep that in mind, now where are you taking me?"

"To Twilight's place, duh."

"I know that, but where does she live?"

"In the library in the big tree in the middle of town."

"Ah, makes sense, as I remember it she was a bit of a bookworm."

"Yuppy yup yup, that's Twilight alright."

They finally reached the library and Trixie smiled at the bouncing pink pony. "Thanks for helping me out, if you ever need anything just ask for The Great and Powerful Trixie." Trixie started for the door and just as she reached it she was interrupted by Pinkie.

"Wait, you're that braggy pony that brought the Ursa to Ponyville a few days ago aren't you?"

Trixie sighed and turned toward Pinkie, "Not really, a couple of my admirers wanted to see me in action after I bragged about being able to do it. In a way yeah it was my fault, but I never told those two to bring a beast into town."

"Oh, didn't know that. My friend, Rainbow Dash, just said to be on the lookout for you since you might be returning for revenge against Twilight since she embarrassed you by getting rid of that Ursa  Minor."

"Don't worry about that, revenge is the furthest thing from my mind. Still, don't tell your other friends I'm here. I didn't exactly make the best first impressions with them..."

"I'll say, you're a pretty nice pony from what I've seen, and you're a lot less braggy than I thought you'd be."

"That was just part of my magic act, sure it got a bit out of hoof but that's not going to be a problem anymore in this town."

"This town? Why not ever again?"

"Again, part of my magic act. I have many different personae for the towns and cities I pass through, braggy happens to be a fan favorite as far as I've seen."

"Okie dokie lokie, have fun with Twilight, just a warning though Dashie's weather patrol for Ponyville, she probably knows you're here." Pinkie bounced down the road, shuddering a bit more once in a while.

Trixie turned back to the door of the library, breathing deeply to calm her nerves. She had met a friend of Twilight's, she was nice and something told her that Pinkie wouldn't be friends with a mean pony. Still, there was still the worry that Twilight would not like her just dropping by like this so soon after the incident. Trixie just shook her head and raised her hoof to the door then knocked three times, she had made her choice and was going to see it through.

*****

Earlier that day...

Twilight was walking through the town toward Carousel Boutique, the home and business of her friend Rarity. She made her way to the front door and knocked a couple times, she hadn't come just for a friendly visit but also to check on an order she had placed a couple days ago. Sure it was a rush job but she was certain that Rarity would be able to do it easily.

The door opened, the white coated pony with gems as her cutie mark stood proudly in the door way and smiled at Twilight.

"Good morning Twilight, how is everything?"

"Pretty well, how's it going for you?"

"Good, I finished that order for you just as I promised, no idea why you'd want to have that repaired though..."

"Oh Rarity, even if she wasn't the nicest pony it doesn't mean we shouldn't have helped her a little."

"I know, still if it wasn't for her we wouldn't have had an Ursa rampaging through the town."

"It was just grumpy because those little colts interrupted it's nap, and it didn't cause too much damage before I sent it back to it's home."

"True..." Rarity produced a hat box and a rectangular box, both with Trixie's cutie mark on top of them, placing them on the ground near Twilight Sparkle. "Here's the hat and cloak, good as new. You know, I bet you'd look better in the outfit than she did."

Twilight blushed and giggled, "I don't know Rarity, it doesn't really match my colors."

"Twilight, darling, I know just what you mean, so I whipped up a little something just for you while I was working on hers." Rarity produced another couple boxes with Twilight's cutie mark on them and placed them on top of the others. "Trust me when I say you will look fabulous in these, I'm sure of it."

Twilight smiled and levitated the boxes. "Thanks Rarity, I might have to try them on later. Right now, I've got studying to do back at the library."

"Alright, see you around." Rarity went back inside her shop, closing the door behind her, while Twilight walked back to the library, placing the boxes carefully on her back as she walked home. On the way back she saw Pinkie rush off somewhere, she stopped questioning Pinkie's antics a while ago.

When she reached the library she opened the door and made her way up to her bedroom area, closing and locking the front door so she wouldn't have to worry about somepony walking in on her. Curiosity had gotten the best of her and she took the boxes with her cutie mark off the other boxes, placing hers on her dresser and Trixie's on her bed.

She took the cloak from the box first, it was really well done even for Rarity this was excellent. The pattern was similar to Trixie's but somehow different, she couldn't put her hoof on it, but it was really nice. The main difference she noticed was it's connecting jewel, instead of blue, was bright purple much like her own fur. She put on the cloak and checked herself out in the mirror, it didn't look too bad but it still didn't seem to suit her right. She decided to try it with the hat, after placing the hat on her head she heard three knocks on the door.

"Hmm, wonder who that could be."

She looked out the window and saw a blue unicorn with a beautiful silvery mane. She nearly burst when she saw this, the unicorn who had ran from Ponyville was knocking on her door while she was trying on a version of her outfit. Mostly feeling embarrassed at that she quickly disrobed and made her way downstairs to the front door.

*****

The door opened and the beautiful purple unicorn was standing there with her friendly smile.

"Uhh, hi." Trixie blushed and smiled smugly back, unintentionally going back to a persona by reflex.

"Hi Trixie."

"That's The Great and Powerful Trixie, but I suppose I can forgive you this time."

"Right, well would you like to come inside?" Twilight sighed and motioned to invite Trixie inside.

"Yes I would, thank you." Trixie trotted proudly into the library, Twilight shut the door behind her and walked over next to the blue unicorn.

"So, what are you doing here? Great and Powerful Trixie?"

Trixie sighed and relaxed, reminding herself to stop with the act, "To be honest, I came to see you."

Twilight blushed at that, "M-me? Why's that?"

"I don't know really, there's just something about you. It's like some sort of a spell."

"Well, that's nice of you. But I dunno..."

"Don't know about what?"

"About, being with another filly..."

Trixie sighed and tried her best to smile, even if she felt like crying, "I guess it was too much to ask of you, I didn't even know if you liked fillies and I came over anyway..."

"It's not just that, I've never been with anypony. I've just barely become social enough to have friends, let alone a relationship. That and, whenever I saw a pair of fillies they always seemed to get hassled and made fun of by other ponies."

Trixie nodded, "Yeah, small minded ponies hassled me in school when I got up the courage to come out about it."

"I'm so sorry to hear it."

"Don't worry, it was a long time ago. I've moved on."

"Alright, oh I've got something for you." Twilight perked up and started up to her bedroom.

"Really? What could you possibly have that I'd be interested in, aside from yourself?" Trixie said in a sort of teasing tone.

"You'll see." Twilight giggled and got up to her bedroom area, grabbing Trixie's boxes off the bed, not noticing Trixie had followed her up the stairs.

"Wow, this is where you sleep? It looks really nice." Twilight jumped a bit, dropping the boxes from the break in her concentration.

"Oh, yeah I guess it's nice. I also do a bit of private studying here during the daylight hours when other ponies come to borrow books from the library downstairs."

Trixie took notice of a piece of clothing on the dresser, as well as a familiar looking hat, "Looks like somepony liked my stage outfit." Trixie teased again as she lifted Twilight's cloak and hat with levitation.

Twilight blushed and looked away, "That was my friend Rarity's idea, she thought I'd look good in it."

Trixie placed the hat on Twilight's head and draped the cloak around Twilight, clasping the jewel properly and smiled at Twilight, "Hmm, I think it looks great on you, she must be a great seamstress."

"She is, she's the one who's hair you turned green in your act."

Trixie giggled at that, "Oh right, the one that made a really nice dress from my drapes. Hope she's not too sore at me for messing with her hair like that."

"I wouldn't worry about it, she's a nice pony and she was more mad at the Ursa incident that Snips and Snails caused."

"Right, so was this your surprise?" Trixie giggled and smiled at Twilight.

"No, my real surprise was here on my bed."

"Oh, so you've decided to give fillies a try then?" Trixie teased.

Twilight blushed hard and shook her head, "N-no! I have boxes to give to you!" Twilight levitated the boxes off her bed and set them in front of Trixie.

"Oh, these look interesting." Trixie opened the boxes and her jaw dropped as she saw what was inside. "Y-you didn't..."

Twilight smiled and nodded, "Yeah, I couldn't save the caravan but I thought you'd appreciate this at least."

Trixie hugged Twilight tight and cried softly, "Thank you so very much! You have no idea what these mean to me!"

"Can't breathe..."

"Oh, sorry." Trixie let Twilight go and smiled, she put on her old cloak and hat, still crying a bit. "I just thought they were destroyed."

"They were, kinda. They were in really rough shape, but as you know Rarity is a great seamstress and she fixed them up for me."

"I'll have to thank her as soon as I can. Thank you again Twilight."

"Anytime, so you have a place to stay in town or are you just going to be on your way?"

Trixie thought for a moment, remembering her caravan still parked outside Ponyville. "I think I'll stay for a while, but I don't have anywhere to sleep."

"Well, how about staying with me? I've got plenty of room and a guest bed."

"I'll think about it, until then how about we go get something to eat? I'm starving."

"Sure, I know just the place!" Twilight was just about to take off her outfit when Trixie stopped her.

"Keep it on, I'm curious to see what the reaction to us both dressed up like this will be. The Great Trixie and The Powerful Twilight, going out for a bite to eat."

"Alright Trixie, though I don't think I deserve half of your title."

"Yes you do, you're much more powerful than me, I'm just greater."

"Whatever you say Trixie."

The two giggled and made their way out the door, a few ponies noticed and gasped at the sight of the pony they thought responsible for bringing an Ursa to their town walking next to the pony responsible for saving their town from the same danger, both dressed up in matching outfits like they were going to do their own magic show together. Trixie didn't mind the attention, and while she was saddened by not having Twilight as she wanted she at least was going to have a great new friend. Perhaps the greatest friend in Equestria.

"If only it were that simple," Trixie sighed under her breath, being careful not to worry Twilight.
