Pain Is Better Than Nothing

Renko sat alone in the helicopter, he listened to the steady beat of the blades through the air as he waited for takeoff, he had specifically told his men that he would be doing a solo mission onto the island. The others had thought he finally lost his mind when he told them his reason.

"...It's less fun when there isn't a challenge... and when I'm alone against these creatures, it's a well-recieved challenge." None of the other soldiers dared argue with him because they knew the limitless power that the TMD bestowed upon him, but he knew that they all wanted to stop him, and he understood how they felt on the matter. He sat in silence as the chopper took him on the long journey to the Island that he never wanted to set foot on again. How many times had he crossed the island, how many times had he wished the nightmare would just end, enough to know that he had to do something to wipe the singularity... and the island it was on... from the face of the earth. He knew what he had to do as the chopper landed about a kilometer from the singularity, he quickly made his way along the rubble-strewn streets toward the orange beam that shot into the sky, he had ordered the chopper to take off and only come back if he gave them the order. When he finally reached the building he took a deep breath before walking inside, as if it would help him complete this final decision. After several long minutes of walking through the abandoned labs he finally approached the room where the singularity was being emitted from, he took a quick look around and saw the place exactly as he had left it, a sigh escaped his lips as he walked closer to the beam of orange light.

Luna was curious as to what the man was going to try and do, he hadn't brought any sort of explosive with him, he didn't even have the bomb from the last time that he was there. A sudden realization dawned on her as she saw the man lift his left hand so that the device he wore was now facing the strange core of the beam.

"he's going to try and use the device to cause a chain-reaction and destroy the singularity and the island... he has truly lost his drive to live..." Luna thought, she felt as if she had been stabbed with a very cold metal blade.

Upon simply willing the device attached to his arm to expell E99 energy and merge it with the core he felt the vibrations in the room as the reactor began to gain too much power to handle, he knew that he couldn't relent in his plan though.

"Even if this kills me... I know it will stop you once and for all..." he spoke in a low growl as if the beam could hear him or respond to what he said.

When the reactor couldn't take any more unbalancing the beam seemed to collapse into a small white ball, Renko had begun to breathe a sigh of relief... as did Luna... at the sight. Before he could finish though, an explosion rocketed out from the core that blinded and deafened both Luna and Renko, both of them could feel an earth-shaking event had happened.

Renko, believing that he was now dead, opened his eyes to see a place that seemed to shimmer with every color of the rainbow. He began to look around the place, trying to discern whether this was heaven or purgatory, when his eyes fell upon a creature standing opposite of him.

When Luna had finally blinked away the blindness she saw herself face-to-face with the human whose eyes she had been looking through during her dreams. Both of them had no idea how to regard each other... As Luna only knew of him as a human, but had no knowledge of him other than that... Renko had to blink his eyes just to make sure he wasn't looking at a Revert.

"no... I'm not... Reverts are humans who have gone even further than physical deformities to become monsters, but this thing... it seems to lack any sort of hostile or predatory stance, as if it's just as curious about me as I am of it..." Any sort of thought process was halted as another light blinded the two of them once again, this time coming from Renko's left, when they had both recovered their vision another equine creature was standing between them.

Renko stood amazed at how beautiful the creature was... It had hair as red as fire, but as flowing as a peaceful river. The hair on it's hide was as white as snow, while her presence made her seem as tough as the earth itself. When she finally spoke, Renko felt as if the gentlest of winds were flowing over him.

"Sergeant Nathaniel Renko..." He was taken a little by surprise since this creature knew his name, but he went along with it, "...I believe you have now met my daughter, Princess Luna..." with a flex of a wing the larger equine indicated the blue-coated one.

Renko gave a slight nod, and Luna couldn't believe that she was seeing her mother once again.

"That's good... Because even though your mission had proven to be a success... it was not as successful as you had hoped." Renko couldn't believe what he was hearing, "Is the Singularity still active? Did I die? What am I doing here?" All those thoughts rushed through his head as if they were a train with no brakes, and he turned his gaze upward as the large equine began to laugh.

"Fear not, your efforts to destroy the device were successful, and by taking the singularity and the TMD out of the same time period you managed to keep the human race from being consumed by those monsters." Renko felt as if a weight had been lifted off of his shoulders. "but they are still a threat to the place where I am sending you... unfortunately, Without the Singularity the TMD would not normally work... but I am giving you an alternate method to draw upon the power that rests in your hand." Renko looked at the device attached to his hand and saw that the normal glow that it usually had was now gone, he turned his gaze once more back to the creature that was speaking with him.

"You need to find my daughter, and have her help you with overcoming this darkness..." she sighed, as if it hurt her to even think of putting her own daughter through such a thing. "there are many good lives in the world now, all I ask... is that you help protect as many as you can..." With another blinding flash both Luna and Renko felt as if they were falling down to the ground.

Luna awoke with a start and groggily looked around to see where she had fallen asleep at, confused at how she ended up in her room, and even more confused when her head began to pound with a migrane.

Renko felt as if all the wind had been knocked out of him, when he opened his eyes he saw himself staring through the canopy of a forest, it took a great deal of effort to get himself up on his elbows and drag himself to a nook in the nearest tree. He looked down at his left hand and saw that the TMD was glowing the same blue color it had been before, and he contemplated on what the mysterious creature meant when she told him about an alternative power he would use. With exhaustion finally overtaking him, Renko closed his eyes and attempted to sleep. Other than his own ragged breathing, the only thing he could sense about himself was that his entire body hurt, so he gave himself something to think about.

"At least pain is better than feeling nothing at all..." Was the only thought coursing through his mind as he finally slipped from the realm of conscious to the dream world.
