Chapter 1- (2)

Pasadeneigh Equestria, 5 years later

In a quiet suburb, in Pasadeneigh, in Equestria a yellow truck accented with red stripes pulled up to a small green house. The obnoxious colors of the vehicle made it stand out in this peaceful community. The tailgate of the truck was emblazoned with the words “Filly Wagon” and a hawaiian hula pony bobbled back and forth on the red velvet dashboard.

The seafoam green pony driving the truck yanked the keys out of the ignition and double checked the address. “Punch residence, 151 Morgan St. Pasadeneigh...” She read aloud to herself, exiting the truck and slamming the drivers side door. She quickly trotted around the front and up the main walkway to the house. The unicorn idly stepped over some foal’s toys that were strewn about the yard.

She reached the front door and sighed to herself, ringing the doorbell and taking a step back to ready herself in a fighting stance. A voice came from somewhere behind the door. “Coming!” Lyra heard hoofsteps approaching the door. “Sarah, I cannot believe you are earl-” A dark pink pony opened the door, her mane was a pinkish purple. She had dark red eyes that were now wide open staring at the teal unicorn that stood before her.  Her face was a picture painted with shock and fear.

They stared into eachother’s eyes for several long seconds before Lyra announced her visit with a haymaker. She threw a right hoof that sent the pink earth pony flying backwards into the clean, well decorated home. lyra offered no time for her to recover before rushing forward and attempting to deliver a kick to the pony’s chest. Berry Punch threw out a forehoof blocking the kick downwards. This was a fight to the death.

Lyra expected the deflection and threw a punch with her left hoof that struck Berry across the face. She brought about her right hoof in an attempt to land another blow. Berry saw it coming and was on the offensive. She blocked her strike and grabbed hold of Lyra’s forehoof flinging her around and smashing her in to a glass picture frame. The teal mare slid down the wall and into an end table with a waterfall of glass and rolled on to her back on the floor.

Berry siezed the opportunity and attempted to slam her hoof down on the center of Lyra’s exposed chest only to be denied by Lyra’s fast reflexes and a kick to Berry’s stomach that sent her stumbling backwards. She was gasping for air. Lyra also delivered a high kick from her position on the ground that caught berry as she was hunched over on the chin. The pink mare flipped over backwards, flying over the couch and landing on  a glass coffee table with a deafening crash.

She had only a moment to recover before Lyra jumped over the couch and attempted a strike on her head. Berry grabbed a piece of broken wood from the wreckage of the coffee table and slammed it down on Lyra’s knee making her cry out in pain. She then brought the chunk of wood around attempting to catch Lyra aside the head. The unicorn fell over to the side avoiding the blow.

Berry was in a rage, she came back around and swung again in a downward strike, aiming for Lyra’s head. Lyra blocked the strike and flipped Berry over. The earth pony attempted to regain her composure and stand on her hooves but she was quickly pinned to the ground by Lyra. She wrapped a hoof around Berry’s throat and squeezed tightly.

Berry weakly tried to fight off the mare on her back but quickly collapsed to the ground. She glanced about desperately for anything that would help her escape from Lyra’s stranglehold. The fireplace tools caught her eye. Desperately, she reached out and and gripped the handle of the steel fire poker and swung it over her back. The poker caught Lyra across the shoulders and she fell off Berry, releasing her hold with a loud painful yelp.

Berry Punch was up in an instant. She slammed a rack of glass figurines and decorative plates down on her. Lyra was now curled in to a ball, protecting her face from the broken glass. Berry took this chance to retreat into the hallway. Lyra painfully and slowly got up from the shattered bits of glass and pottery. She rubbed some broken glass from her arm and ran off towards the hallway and in to the kitchen.

Berry was waiting for her with a butchers knife. She swung it at Lyra as she entered the doorway. Lyra dodged the strike and grabbed a frying pan that hung on the wall, using it to counter her blows. Berry managed to knock the pan from Lyra’s hooves and kick her back on to the kitchen table. She seized the opportunity and dived, stabbing the knife downward onto the table only to find it empty and her knife stuck point first in to the wood.

Lyra had rolled off the table and whipped out a knife of her own, strapped to her thigh. She drove the point up from underneath the table hoping to catch Berry from below. She kicked the table over sending Berry sprawling in to the living room. Lyra hopped over the table and held her knife up in a defensive posture. Berry was on her hooves, also holding her knife up, pointed at Lyra.

The 2 ponies were at a standoff in the middle of the living room. Each one taking turns attempting to strike at the other. The standoff lasted for what felt like minutes to Lyra, but was, in reality, nothing more than a couple seconds. The sound of a school carriage stopping outside the home caused both of the ponies to glance out the large window.

A smaller pony, a unicorn filly with similar colors to Berry exited the carriage. She was carrying a backpack. Berry looked back up and Lyra with pleading eyes. Both of the Ponies hid their knives behind their backs as the front door creaked open.

“Mommy i’m home.” The little filly said as she crossed the threshold in to the living room.

“Hey baby! How was school?” Berry asked her daughter with a smile, attempting to hide her exhaustion and fear from her struggle that ended only moment before. The filly had a suspicious look on her face as she surveyed her mother and the strange pony that stood on their hind legs and the flood of shattered glass that spread throughout the floor. “Mommy? What happened to you and the TV room?”

Lyra stood off to the side, looking back and forth at the little pony and her mother. Berry glanced over at her and turned back to her daughter, trying to come up with a believable story. “That good for nothin dog of yours, got his little ass in the livin room and acted a damn fool. That’s what happened baby.” She put on the best poker face she could possibly muster.

“Winona did this?” The foal said as she trotted forward towards the destruction. Berry put out her hoof, signaling her daughter to stop. “Now, you cant come in here. there’s broken glass everywhere, you could cut yourself.” Berry’s hoof tightened around the handle of the knife hid behind her back. She desperately needed to get her daughter away from her and Lyra.

The little purple foal looked up at Lyra and then back to her mother. Berry took notice, “This is an old friend of mommy’s she hasn’t seen in a long time.” She gestured towards lyra.

The teal mare looked back at berry and then down to her daughter. “Hi, im [censored]. What’s your name?”

The purple earth pony adjusted her gip on the knife and stared at Lyra. “Her name is Ruby.”

Lyra gave a light smile towards the foal. “Ruby, such a pretty name for such a pretty girl.” She gave a quick look towards berry, making sure the mare wasnt trying to pull a trick on her. “How old are you Ruby?”

Ruby looked up at her mother. “Ruby, [censored] asked you a question.”

“I’m four.”

Lyra smiled. “Four years old eh? Ya know, I had a little girl once, she would be about four now.” Berry walked up to her daughter and bent down to address her. “Ruby, me and mommy’s friend got some grown up talk to talk about. So I want you to go back up to your room and dont come out until I tell you, ok?”

Ruby looked back up at Lyra. Berry clammed her hooves together. “RUBY. In your room, now.” She said with the most serious tone she could muster. The little filly quickly obliged and retreated in to the hallway.

Lyra dropped her hooves and placed the knife in to the sheath on her side. Berry dropped her weapon as well. Looking back over her shoulder at the teal unicorn she shrugged. “You want some coffee?”
