Chapter 1: An Unexpected Series of Events

Twilight Sparkle closely examined the next page of her spell book. As she read it, she picked up a flask of a strange purple liquid and poured it into a vial which already contained a green liquid.

Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy sat on her lounge, eagerly awaiting the outcome of her latest experiment.

Twilight continued adding various items and ingredients to her potion, constantly flipping back and forth between pages.

"Girls, it's done." Twilight said proudly.

"Awesome," Rainbow Dash said. "What does it do?"

"I'll show you."

Twilight picked up the vial with her magic as sparks flew from her horn. The mixture began to shake and shimmer, as the contents inside began changing colours. It began bubbling, and Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy eagerly prepared themselves for whatever was going to happen.

However, to their disappointment, nothing happened. The mixture fizzled out and returned to it's original colour.

"What happened?" Fluttershy asked.

"I'm not sure, that should have worked." Twilight said as she once again flipped back and forth through the book.

Suddenly, the brew began to sparkle and shine again as it changed colours. Twilight stepped back, confused, but then put on a worried expression. She ran and took cover behind her desk.

"You two, get back!" she said, motioning for Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash to get out of the way.

"Why? What's happening?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"I thinks it's going to explode!"

They both dived out of the way, but were not fast enough. The vial exploded, sending both Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy crashing into the wall behind them.

Rainbow Dash rolled over on Twilight's bed. She was still unconscious from the explosion.

"Rainbow Dash?" asked a muffled and slurred voice, which echoed through her ears. "Rainbow Dash, can you hear me?"

Rainbow Dash's eyes slowly flicked open and she looked at Twilight, who was standing by her bed.

"Twilight, what happened?" she said as she rubbed her eyes. "That potion, what did it do?"

"Well... that's not important. What's important is that you're okay."

"Are you sure?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"Y- yes..." Twilight stuttered.

"You don't sound sure."

"Well..." she said, nervously rubbing the back of her neck. "You might want to look in the mirror."

"Why? What happened to me?!" she asked worriedly.

"Just... take a look."

Rainbow Dash slowly approached Twilight's large mirror in her bedroom. Her heart beat heavily as she walked in front of it.

She took a single look at herself and screamed.

"Wha- What the hell happened to me?!" she shrieked, turning to Twilight.

"Now, now, calm down. I can fix it." Twilight said, trying to get her friend to stop panicking.

Rainbow Dash took another look at herself in the mirror in shock. Her blue coat and rainbow mane were gone, and were replaced with a yellow coat and a pink mane. Her previously rose eyes where now a strong aqua colour.

"I'm Fluttershy!" she screamed. She began breathing rapidly as she hyperventilated.

"Calm down, I'll fix both of you." Twilight said.

"B- both?"

Twilight led Rainbow Dash downstairs and into the living room where Fluttershy, who looked like Rainbow Dash, was sitting.

"Hello, Rainbow Dash." Fluttershy said depressingly.

Rainbow Dash didn't respond, she was too shocked.

"Look, girls, I'll find a way to fix this." Twilight said.

Rainbow Dash worriedly walked over to her and began examining Fluttershy.

"Twilight, you have to fix us." she said.

"Yes, yes. I'll start working right away." Twilight replied. "Until then, you have to do something."

"About what?"

"You have to pretend to be each other, just until I find a cure."

"Okay, I'll try." Rainbow Dash said worriedly.

"Umm, I don't know." Fluttershy said. "I'm nothing like Rainbow Dash, it's going to be hard to act like you."

"Well, you have to try."

Twilight walked over to one of the bookcases and pulled a book of the shelf.

"I'll start figuring out a cure as soon as I can." she said.

"Well good," Rainbow Dash said. "because I have-"

Rainbow Dash put on a nervous expression, more so than before.

"What?" Twilight asked.

"Wonderbolt training..."

"Oh no, I can't do Wonderbolt training, that's for advanced flyers." Fluttershy said, regecting the idea.

"Well you have to go, Fluttershy." Rainbow Dash said. "Otherwise you'll- I mean I'll get kicked off the team. It's only for today and tomorrow."

"Um, okay... I'll try, but I can't guarantee I'll do well."

Fluttershy nervously stood on the runway of the Wonderbolts Academy along with all of the other rookies. She was wearing Rainbow Dash's uniform, and was nervously awaiting Spitfire's orders, which were almost definitely going to be something gruelling and physically demanding.

"Attention, rookies!" Spitfire called out. "Today, we're going to test you with a simple course."

A simple course? Fluttershy though to herself. How hard could that be?

"You will all be completing this obstacle course." she said, sweeping her foreleg across a large course, filled with all sorts of obstacles. "To pass the test, you must make it through in less than one minute."

"A minute?!" Fluttershy accidentally said aloud.

"Something the matter, Rainbow Dash?" Spitfire said sternly.

"Oh, no, I'm fine."

"Good, because anypony who fails will be sent to do two hundred laps!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Fluttershy's heart was racing, her wings were beating rapidly. She was determined to complete the course, for Rainbow Dash.
She looked at the large timer which was counting down the minute. The timer had nearly finished, with about fifteen seconds remaining. Fluttershy was the only pegasus who hadn't finished the course yet.
She was feeling sore, but only in her head, as Rainbow Dash's impressive physical stamina managed to keep her going.
She flapped her wings back and forth as she tried to get past the many powerful fans which pushed her back, and the storms clouds above which heavily poured down with rain and constantly shot out bolts of lightning, which Fluttershy had to dodge.
The rain was running down her goggles, making it harder for her to see.
Rainbow Dash's wings weren't like her own, though. They were much stronger than Futtershy's. She finally gave one last wingbeat, pushing her across the finish line. She landed on the paved tarmac and coughed as she tried to catch her breath.
"You okay, Rainbow Dash?" Spitfire asked as she watched her. "I expected you to be the first one across the line."
"I'm... fine." she coughed. "I'm just a little sick."
After a workout like that, she probably would have thrown up if she was in her own body. She wasn't the athletic type.
"Err.. okay." She looked over at the rest of the group. "Good job, everypony! Let's hit the showers!"
"Oh, I can't do this. I'm terrible with animals." Rainbow Dash said as she arrived at Fluttershy's cottage.
"You have to try, Flutter- I mean, err, Rainbow Dash." Twilight said, going inside and looking at the various woodland creatures around the house. "I'll give you some help, but after that, you're going to have to manage by yourself."
"Err, thanks."
The two mares walked inside Fluttershy's cottage and watched as animals of all sorts scurried around the room.
"I don't really know much about animals. What do I do?" Rainbow Dash asked.
"Well, just keep them happy until Fluttershy gets back from your Wonderbolt training. She can help you then."
She didn't want to think about the Fluttershy for the moment. For all she knew, her Wonderbolt status was in jeopardy. She could just picture it in her mind, Fluttershy handing over her hard-earned badge. She shuddered at the mere thought.
Rainbow Dash and Twilight walked into Fluttershy's kitchen and opened up the cupboard. Inside, they found lots of little snacks for the animals, but there wasn't really very much food in there for a pony.
"Ok, we'll just grab a bunch of food, dump it in the lounge room and let them eat until Fluttershy get home." Twilight said, examining the shelves.
"But the animals, they don't like me." Rainbow Dash commented. "They won't listen to me."
"Yes, they won't listen to you." Twilight said, still browsing through the various nuts and vegetables. "But they will listen to Fluttershy."
"But Fluttershy's at Wonderbolt training."
"Yes, but the animals don't know that."
"So, I just pretend to be Fluttershy?"
"Yeah, that would probably be best."
Rainbow Dash looked into the cupboard beside Twilight and began looking at the types of food that Fluttershy had.
"Ugh, how does Fluttershy see?" she said, pushing her pink mane out of her face, just to have it fall back down. "I can't even tell where the cupboard is."
She looked through the pantry and grabbed out some acorns and lettuce. She walked back into the lounge room and placed them on the floor in an untidy pile.
"Lunch is ready," she called out to the animals, trying to act like Fluttershy. "Come get some!"
Moments later, various creatures rushed inside and began devouring the heap of food.
Fluttershy's pet rabbit bounced over to Rainbow Dash and gave her a hug. She knew that there was no way Angel would be doing that to the regular Rainbow Dash.
"Aww, that's cute." Twilight giggled. "Rainbow Dash wouldn't be caught dead doing that."
"Well, I'm not Rainbow Dash, I'm Fluttershy." she said, a little annoyed at Twilight.
About half an hour later, Rainbow Dash, who was actually Fluttershy, walked in the door.
"Hi." she wheezed.
"Fluttershy, what's wrong? You look terrible." Rainbow Dash said.
She walked in and sprawled herself over her couch.
"That was the most tiring thing I've ever done."
"You didn't get kicked off, did you?"
"No, you're still in the team, but I don't know how much longer I can do this."
"Don't worry, it's only tomorrow. That will be the last one for the week. Hopefully Twilight will have a cure by then."
Fluttershy looked down at the mess in the middle of the room, nuts and lettuce everywhere.
"Where's Twilight?" Fluttershy asked.
"She left about ten minutes ago, she's trying to find out a cure for us."
Rainbow Dash stretched out her yellow wings.
"No offence or anything, but your wings are really weak." she said.
"I know." Fluttershy said.
"It feels really weird when I have to fly, because I can't go fast. Your wings can't move like that, I get exhausted from just hovering."
Rainbow Dash felt something on her leg, she looked down and saw Angel, pleading for some more food.
"Uh, Fluttershy- I mean, um, Rainbow Dash? Can I give her more food? I'm not really sure if they're on some sort of feeding system or whatever."
"Uh, yes." Fluttershy replied. "That should be fine."
Rainbow Dash walked back into the kitchen, and Fluttershy stayed in the lounge room with Angel.
"Hello, Angel." she said, hoping she would go over to her.
Angel just gave her a contemptuous sneer, and joined Rainbow Dash in the kitchen.
Fluttershy was sad that her own pet didn't even like her, but then again, she didn't even look like Fluttershy.
A few moments later, Angel bounced back through the room, happily nibbling on a lettuce leaf.
"How do you do it?" Fluttershy asked when Rainbow Dash returned from the kitchen.
"Do what?" Rainbow Dash asked.
"How do you go through workouts like that every week?"
"I'm determined to prove myself."
Fluttershy stood up and approached the door.
"I'd better get back to your house." she said. "See you later."
"Ok, bye. Let me know if you need any help, getting around my house."
"Alright." she said as she left the house, but then returned a second later. "Rainbow Dash, I forgot to tell you something."
"What?"
"I saw Applejack today. She said she wanted me to come by after training tomorrow for a chat."
"Ap- Applejack?" Rainbow Dash stuttered.
"Yeah, why?"
"Did you tell her you were Fluttershy?"
"Well, no. She was in a hurry, I didn't really get a chance."
"Well, don't go to her house tomorrow. Make up an excuse, tell her the truth for all I care, just don't go." Rainbow Dash said a little nervously.
"Why? What's happening with Applejack?"
"Nothing, it's a secret!" Rainbow Dash snapped.
"Uhh, okay. See you later."
"Good morning, rookies." Spitfire announced. "Today, we're going to start off with a race. You must fly around the entire academy and go through all the clouds. You are to stick with your partner and you are all to complete seven hundred laps and no less!"
"A... hundred?" Fluttershy moaned.
"Rainbow Dash," Spitfire called out. "You've been slacking off a bit lately."
"Oh, yes. Sorry about that."
"Well sorry doesn't cut it. Your partner shouldn't have to slow down to wait for you, so that's why you'll be wearing this."
Spitfire pointed to an odd object on the ground, which was just two harnesses connected by a tether.
"I have to wear that?" Fluttershy asked.
"Well, you don't have to, but it's your choice. You wear it, you fly faster, or you get kicked off the team."
"Fine, I'll wear it."
Fluttershy flew home alone after practice that afternoon, still pondering over what Rainbow Dash was hiding about Applejack. Of course, she didn't really care that much. If Rainbow Dash had a secret, then she had to respect that. She did, however, have to tell Applejack that she couldn't make it.
She landed at the front door of Applejack's house and knocked on the door.
"Hey, Rainbow Dash." Applejack said when she answered the door. "Please, come inside."
"Uh, Applejack? I-" Fluttershy began, but was cut off when Applejack grabbed her hoof and ushered her inside.
Applejack took Fluttershy into her room and sat her down on the bed. She shut the door and looked at her.
"Applejack, I'm not-"
"How've ya been, Rainbow Dash?" she asked her as she approached the bed.
Fluttershy was becoming nervous.
"Well, you see... Umm, I'm not actually-"
Her attempt to tell Applejack was stopped when she felt the farmers cold lips press against her own. She tried to scream, but was unable to as Applejack's muzzle covered her mouth.
Fluttershy tried to move away but Applejack was now lying on top of her, pinning her to the bed. She tried to push her away, but she was unable to.
Suddenly, she felt the terrible experience of Applejack's tongue as it moved from her mouth into Fluttershy's, and began intertwining with her own tongue.
Applejack opened her eyes, and saw the horribly terrified look in her eyes. She pulled her muzzle away, giving the scared pegasus a chance to breathe.
"What's wrong, sugarcube?" Applejack said, backing away slightly.
Fluttershy trembled on the bed in shock of what she had just done.
"Rainbow?"
"You- you kissed me..." Fluttershy stuttered.
"Yeah, so? You're actin' like we've never done that before."
"Before?!"
"Uh... Yeah. It's been like, a month now."
Applejack approached her again, but she got up and galloped out the door.
"Uhh... Sorry, Applejack. I have to go!"
"Uhh, okay. See ya 'round."
Fluttershy couldn't tell her that she wasn't Rainbow Dash, it would be too awkward. But she was still scared. For the past month, Applejack and Rainbow Dash had been secretly kissing, and who knows what else.
"Change me back!" Fluttershy cried when she arrived at Twilight's house.
"Rainbow Dash- I mean, Fluttershy?" Twilight asked, turning away from her spell book.
"Please, Twilight. You have to fix us!"
"Fluttershy, calm down. What's wrong?"
"I- I can't take another second of this!"
"What's wrong? What happened?"
"I can't- It's too much for me."
"Wonderbolt training?"
"It's too much, if I keep going then Rainbow Dash will get kicked off!"
She didn't mention the kiss which she and Applejack awkwardly shared.
"Well, I think I'm done. Go get Rainbow Dash from your house and I'll give it a shot."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

"Twilight, we're here." Rainbow Dash said as they entered the tree.

"Oh, good." Twilight said. "Sit down and we'll get started."

Twilight picked up her spell book and began casting the spell which she had previously written.

Twilight's horn began to glow as a bolt of lightning shot out, connecting the two pegasi. They began to glow as a bright purple aura completely engulfed them, making their colours completely undefinable.

The purple glowing masses levitated into the air, and merged into a single bright light. The glowing ball began to grow and grow until it exploded, sending a shockwave of colour around the room.

Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash both fell to the floor, still unsure of what had happened. They both struggled as they got up, and Rainbow Dash opened her eyes.

She looked down between her eyes at her muzzle, which was her brilliant shade of blue.

"Hey, I'm me!" she said excitedly.

"I'm fixed too!" Fluttershy said, looking down at her yellow hooves.

Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy both gave Twilight a hug.

"Thank you so much." Fluttershy said.

"It's okay, it's not a big deal." Twilight said. "It was my fault you were switched in the first place."

They continued hugging, until they were interrupted by another voice.

"What was that?"

They all looked toward the doorway to see Applejack.

"Oh, hi." Fluttershy said awkwardly.

"What happened?" Applejack asked again.

"Well, it's a long story." Twilight said. "I accidentally made Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy swap bodies."

"Sw- Swap bodies?" she said nervously.

"Yeah, why?"

Applejack suddenly thought about what had happened before, and why Rainbow Dash was so eager to leave.

"Uhh... How long were they switched?" she asked.

"Two days."

"Two days?!" she exclaimed. "So, Rainbow Dash was actually Fluttershy?"

"Yeah, I was." Fluttershy said, blushing.

Applejack's expression suddenly spiralled into a disgusted frown.

"Oh, buck!"
