Chapter 26: Meet Rubyrumor

After the experience with Cirria, everything ended up returning to normal. Well, at least as normal as it should. Oracle was still troubled with the fact of Cirria being her "daughter," but with Midnight by her side she would always be fine. Midnight managed to pay off the full debt he owed to Ponyville. But, he kept working on regular days to get some extra money. One day, Oracle was cleaning up her home. She accidentally knocked over a stack of canvases that was against the wall. Oracle began to pick them up, but she noticed something. There seemed to be a hidden area in her home. She walked deeper into it, noticing stairs. "What is this…?" Oracle grabbed a candle and made her way down the stairs. On the way, Oracle tripped and fell down less than half the stairway. The candle landed and rolled towards the wall. The room suddenly lit up, allowing everything to be visible. Oracle rubbed her head but looked around. "I never knew I had a basement!" Her faded eyes landed on a pedestal. On the top of the pedestal was a golden artifact. It looked like a lamp with these ancient markings.

Now, stuff like this was always a bad thing to touch. But, Oracle's old ways started to kick in. She approached the pedestal and grabbed the artifact. She tilted it and looked at it in every angle. Then, she noticed the loose cap. Oracle stopped herself for a second, but then she removed the cap. The lamp shook out of her hooves and green smoke expelled out of the top. The green mist collected together and took the form of a pony. The pony had a green coat and an orange mane. Her horn was slightly curved and was spiked like a plant vine. Instead of a pony tail, she had a bare tail with a tuff of orange hair on the end. Her eyes were blue and her back had blue scales like a fish.

"FINALLY, I am free!" she exclaimed. The pony looked down, seeing a surprised Oracle. She disappeared in a puff of green smoke and reappeared behind Oracle. "So…who is the pony that I have to thank for freeing me…?" Oracle jumped and fell down the small platform the pedestal was on. The strange pony laughed and disappeared once again. She reappeared in front of Oracle, scaring her again. "Please, tell me your name kind soul…"

Oracle was very afraid, "O-O-Oracle…"

"Oracle…that name fits you. Say…you do not look like the average pony I've seen before…" Oracle was silent as she listened to this strange pony. "Well, it was nice meeting you kind Oracle…but now I believe it is time for me to get back to what I have been doing before my imprisonment…causing chaos! For I am Rubyrumor, the offspring of Discord, and nothing will stop me from ruining all harmony!" She laughed evilly and then changed into green smoke. She floated up the stairs and through the passage. Oracle sat on the ground, still shocked to what she saw.

A green puff of smoke flew through Ponyville, twisting and turning through the buildings. It flew by the Carousel Boutique, but it stopped and peered through the top window. Rarity was sketching on paper some designs that looked similar to Oracle's feathers.

"Finally!" she exclaimed while putting the paper down, "I have completed the dress for Oracle. Oh, she will love it so much! I better get right to work…"

Rarity left the room in a hurry, leaving her sketch on her work table. The green puff of smoke flew under the window and reformed into Rubyrumor. She snickered as she approached the table. She grabbed an eraser and pencils and started to scribble on her sketch. Hoovesteps were heard and Rubyrumor quickly left in a puff of smoke. Rarity returned to her room with several bags of supplies caught in her magic. She trotted over to her work board humming happily. But once she looked at her board, all of her bags dropped and she let loose a loud scream. Ruby's head reformed just enough to laugh before turning completely into smoke.

Rubyrumor's next target was at the Library. She flew through the window and hid behind the shelves. Ever so gently, she tilted the shelves, causing the books to fall off. Spike was walking underneath and was rained of by the fallen books. "Spike!" shouted Twilight, "What did you do?!" Rubyrumor snickered and left as the purple pony ran down the stairs to scold the baby dragon.

Rubyrumor headed towards Sugarcube Corner and flew through the open door. No one was in the kitchen currently, so Rubyrumor reformed. She smiled as she saw a batch of cookie batter. She shuffled through a cabinet to look for something interesting to put in it. Her smiled grew once she found what she was looking for, Flaming Skull Hot Sauce. She uncapped the bottle and poured the contents into the cookie mix. Rubyrumor stirred the bowl and quickly dispersed into smoke. Midnight walked in, separated the batter into cookies, and placed them on a tray on a metal rack. He pointed his horn at the cookies and blasted them with a beam of black energy. They instantly baked and he pulled them off the sheet with his magic. Pinkie Pie hopped in happily after she smelled the cookies.

"Those smell great Midnight" she said. "Can I try them…?"

Midnight grabbed one for himself, "Sure…but only take…" Pinkie Pie quickly ate every cookie except for the one Midnight was holding, "…one…" Pinkie Pie randomly started to sweat and she became more energetic than ever. Flames spewed from her mouth as she panted, looking for something to cool her mouth down. She jumped to the sink, put her mouth around the faucet, and turned the handle quickly. Midnight took a small bite into the cookie, causing him to suddenly pant. Midnight heard laughter and looked out the window. Rubyrumor was laughing wildly on her back. Midnight's magic lifted her, made her come through the door, and he glared at her, "Why did you ruin my batch of cookies?!"

"It was a prank…lighten up!" she exclaimed.

"Who are you anyway?"

"My name is Rubyrumor, offspring of Discord…" She suddenly turned into smoke and she was released from Midnight's magic. She reformed on the ground, "And nothing will stop me from spreading chaos!" She reformed into smoke and flew out the door. Pinkie Pie hopped beside Midnight, "Did she say Discord…?"

"Uh…I think she did…" agreed Midnight.

Pinkie gasped loudly and then ran out the door. Midnight took off the pink apron he was wearing and ran after her. They all met at the Library. "I'm telling you Twilight, she said Discord!"

"So let me get this straight" said Rainbow, "You expect us to believe that Discord, THE Discord, had a child…and she's going around causing all sorts of mischief?"

"I saw her" said Midnight, "She disappeared in a puff of green smoke."

"Wait…green smoke…?" asked Rarity. "That's what I saw after my dress design was ruined!"

"That smoke also caused me to pick up all of those books!" shouted Spike.

"We need to warn everypony" said Twilight.

"I'll go and warn Oracle" said Midnight. Everypony nodded and they went their separate ways. In no time at all, Midnight was at the entrance of Oracle's ruins. He stepped in and noticed another passage way that he has never seen before. He stepped down the stairs and gasped at what he saw. Rubyrumor was there facing Oracle. Without question, Midnight jumped and tackled Rubyrumor. Oracle gasped, "Midnight!"

"Oracle, run and I'll hold her off!" he shouted.

"Midnight get off of my new friend…"

Midnight stepped back and got off. He was confused. Rubyrumor's tail began to brush the dirt off. Oracle approached, "Rubyrumor…I am so sorry…"

"I don't blame him Oracle…" she said. "I did cause a little trouble in his kitchen…?"

"That's not my kitchen…"

"Then why were you wearing an apron…and why was it pink…?"

"I had to wear an apron because it is necessary! And it was pink because they were all out of white aprons…"

Oracle and Rubyrumor giggled but Oracle approached Midnight. "Midnight, everything that Rubyrumor does is only a prank. What she told me and you was just another prank. The only magic she can perform is simply turning into a puff of smoke. She's going to live here with me since she lived here for many years."

Midnight had to trust her judgment. She may not be officially his wife, but if he was going to get there, he needed to trust her. Midnight nodded and apologized to Rubyrumor. He flew up, saying he needed to pick up Cirria. Oracle talked to Rubyrumor the rest of the day until night fell. She said goodnight to Rubyrumor and went to her own bed.
