Midnight's Lesson in Friendship

Chapter 19: Oracle's Nightmare

Previous Chapter Next Chapter

After the meeting, Twilight promised she would find some way to reveal the truth to Princess Celestia. Everypony left quickly at the end of dusk to their homes. However one pony wasn't feeling as good as the others. Oracle did manage to pay her revenge against Rainbow Dash and Sparkplug, giving them quite a beating that they would be sore for quite a while, but she still felt empty. Midnight was out there all alone, probably cold and starving. Tears began to fall from her eyes as she entered her home and climbed into her bed. "I hope Midnight is alright" she said to herself before drifting off to sleep.

---

Oracle's eyes suddenly opened and she immediately sat up. She lifted a hoof to rub her tired eyes. When she stopped and opened them, Oracle's eyes went wide. She was lying in the most beautiful room she has ever been in. Large grand windows, fine polished tiles, wondrous bed sheets, this room was fit for a Princess. A small knock on the door caught Oracle by surprise. "Uh…come in…?" she said.

The door opened and a pony stepped in. To Oracle's surprise, it was Twilight. But something seemed different about her, her body seemed weak and thin, and her mane was messy. "Mistress…my lord requests your presence" she said.

"Twilight…?"

"Yes mistress, what do you need?"

"No, Twilight, what happened?" Oracle began to approach her carefully, "What…?"

To Oracle's surprise, Twilight backed away in fear. "No! What did I do wrong?! Don't hurt me?! Just please, go see Lord Midnight!"

Oracle was shocked by both Twilight's reaction and the mentioning of Midnight. Twilight galloped to the other side of the room as Oracle left through the large doors. Oracle walked down the grand hallway carefully, trying to wrap her mind around some things. "Why was Twilight acting like a servant?" she asked aloud. "I'm sure this has to be a dream, but it seems so real. And what is with the 'Mistress' and 'Lord' stuff? Maybe Midnight could shine some li…!" Oracle stopped short when she looked ahead. The hallway went from beautiful and colorful to ruined and destroyed. Her home in the ruins was in better condition. Only a fracture of the ceiling actually lay on the pillar of stone. "What…happened…?"

"Ah…Oracle my sweet…" said a deep voice.

Although the voice was deeper, Oracle recognized the voice. It was Midnight. Oracle turned to greet him but was taken aback by his appearance. Midnight looked practically the same, but things were different. The spikes on his head were larger, and accompanied with a few more. A trail of spikes went down his neck like his mane. His wings had a spike on the end of each finger and on the corner of his wing. Midnight's claws appeared to be sharper, piercing the tiles he was on just by standing. His coat had the same colors, but they were all darker. The scariest part, in Oracle's opinion, was his eyes. Midnight's once calming blue eyes were replaced with menacing blood red eyes with slit pupils. Oracle backed up, but Midnight approached her and gently stroked her mane.

"How is my lovely queen doing on this fine morning?" he asked.

Oracle backed up, carefully avoiding getting scratched by his claws. "I'm sorry Midnight, but I have no idea what is going on" she said. "Could you…explain…?"

Midnight let out a deep chuckle. "I would do anything for you my love. I cannot blame your confusion. This did happen pretty fast, although I would have assumed that you would have been used to this after two years."

Oracle gasped at his reply. But, she followed Midnight as he went through the damaged hallway. "All of what you see now was possible by Princess Celestia."

"Celestia…? What did she do?"

"The day she banished me was the proudest day. Not only did I learn control of my powers, but I also learned the true use for my powers. Why would I follow a weak excuse for a ruler like Celestia? Then, I realized that I could become the ruler!" As they continued to walk, the hallway began to lead into a main room. The room was half in ruin and half in condition. In the center of the room were a few pedestals. On each pedestal was a different object. But one pedestal made Oracle gasp. Lying on the pedestal was a wooden puppet head. But, she recognized this head. It was Lightning's head when he was a puppet. "Yes, that is my favorite piece in the collection" Midnight replied.

"What…"

"Lightning tried to use his weak magic against me. So, I used my magic against him. I guess his puppets are still slightly mad about me taking him down, but I allowed them their lives, they should be thankful. I also let the rest of the others live, so they should be thankful as well."

"The others…live…?"

Midnight gestured to the end of the ruined room. Oracle galloped to the end of the room and looked out. Her face soon had a identifiable expression of horror. The entire land was either in flames or in complete ruin. Looking down he noticed that most of the ponies appeared to be slaves, digging away at the earth. Oracle recognized several of these ponies, each one being one of her friends. Midnight laughed as he approached her side.

"This land was once beautiful, but now it has true beauty" he said. "But this is only the beginning!" All of the spikes on his head began to glow a pitch-black aura. All of the slaves began to cower in fear as a black cloud began to form from the spikes. It rose into the sky, covering the sun completely. "Once I take over Equestria, I will aim for the next country. Then the next, and then the next! Soon, I will control all of Equestria!"

Oracle cowered in fear once Midnight's magic turned everything black and Midnight's red eyes were the only thing visible. The only sound that was heard was Midnight's evil laughter.

---

Oracle shot out of her bed screaming. She quickly began to grab her head and touch every part of her face to make sure she was in reality. Her eyes darted around the room, seeing her very familiar room in the ruins. She would have made a sigh of relief, but she was too scared. Was it a dream, or a…vision? "What will Midnight become?" she said in fear.
