Chapter 1: Flying High

Flying High

A small bird, bright pink like her silky mane, fluttered down from a tree and sung to Fluttershy as she passed by. She went on with her business, whistling the theme song of the show she starred in, eyes closed in a wonderful daydream. The pegasis dreamed she was flying high above Ponyville, higher than many of the clouds, even. Although she was pretty scared, she willed herself go fly faster and within a few minutes propelled herself past Cloudsdale. The ponies were staring at her, some in confusion, some in fear, and some in humorous faces.

"Woah, is that Klutzershy?" A large pegasis with a dumbell for a cutie mark exclaimed as she sped past. Another, with basketballs for a cutie mark, kicked some clouds away from his sight and gasped. "Woah, it is! Way to go!"

She smiled in happiness and continued upwards. She felt that she could even touch th sun if she wanted to. "No, that would hurt." She thought aloud, rethinking her statement. Then the yellow mare smiled again and decided that she wanted to touch the moon instead. It wouldn't burn as much.

Although she didn't want to she landed on a stray cloud high up in the sky. It sucked her hooves in and didn't let go, pleading "Fluttershy, join me in the sky!" She nearly fell face-first trying to step forward, but stopped herself before getting a mouthful of cloud. "Nice cloud," she said, getting used to it's extreme density and softness, "good cloud." The mare lay on the fluffy cloud for hours it seemed, napping away in her dreamland. She planned to stay on the cloud for no more than a few minutes for a much-needed rest, but the awesome fluffiness of it lulled her to a deep sleep faster than Princess Celestia could banish anypony to the moon. Before long the usually quiet pony was snoring as loud as the dragon she once helped.

There was a damp, hot breath on her face and Fluttershy woke with a start, wings flared and eyes wild. "Who's there?" She squeaked, breathing heavily as she lifted her head to see what had started her so much. She lifted her head a little more, then a little more than that, but she couldn't find the top of whatever was breathing on her. Soon her head went so far back she toppled backwards and nearly fell off the cloud.

Finally at the top of the creature she saw what looked like a head, but it blocked out the whole of the sun and she couldn't see it's details. She noted a long face, with a long horn jutting out like a mountaintop from it's forehead, separating a sea of smooth, wavy blonde hair. It's body was slender and groomed to perfection, as if it had just walked out of the same spa her and Rarity head to. Behind it she could faintly see the light bouncing off a glorious bright yellow tail.

"Well, hello, my dear." He whispered in a voice like thick caramel. He leaned down to touch her nose and dropped a crimson rose at her feet, meeting her suprised stare with a pair of dark lavender eyes. Fluttershy gasped and poked the rose lightly with her graceful hoof to find that it was indeed real, and actually smelled quite good. "Who-who-who are you?" She asked, burrowing her nose into the fragrant petals.

The unicorn shifted slightly, and Fluttershy could see the faint outline of huge wings folding neatly against the stallion's lean back. "My dearest Fluttershy, I didn't take you for an owl." He giggled slightly, then stopped as he saw that Fluttershy didn't undersand the joke. "Oh, well," he went on, "I am Prince Amor, 89th in line to the royal throne, about 12 times removed on Princess Celestia's mother's side." The prince laughed a little at his long family tree, then settled his long legs on the cloud and sat next to the confused mare. Even as he shrunk to a fraction of his original size, Amor's large body still blotted out most of Celestia's sun. He sheepishly unfolded his equally large wings and nearly covered the sky, and poor Fluttershy polietly asked if he could put them away and explain why he was here.

"Darling Fluttershy, you are smarter than that! Can't you see why I'm here?" He raised his front hooves in confusion and somehow managed not to fall backwards. He put his face a little close to hers. "Maybe if I get a little.... Closer...."

Back in Ponyville the pink bird shrieked and knocked Fluttershy out of her amazing daydream just as the quiet mare knocked into a tree. "Umph!" She cried, stumbling back from the bark and leaving a Fluttershy-shaped hole in the middle. She rapidly shook her head, mane flying about, and began to pet the tree as if it were an animal in her care. "I'm so sorry, brother!" She apologized, kissing it gently and trotting off.
