Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Growing up, I was like anypony should be. I had mostly a normal life. But it started out rocky. I used to have a sister. Well, she wasn't my real sister. She was my cousin. But my parents had taken her in, because my Uncle couldn't handle  her after my Auntie died. As fillies, we got into trouble over stuff. We were like sisters, so that is what I call her. Her name was Magenta. I called her Maggie, and that was her name. We often went into the nearby forest to look around. We lived in Mane, and it was an adventourus place. One day, we found a water hole. She loved the clear water. She was my older sister, and I looked up to her. What she did, I also copied. She would break my Mama's rules and go out at night and swim. I had always been afraid, and never went in, no matter how many times she called me chicken.

From what I remember, we were galloping to the docter's office. Of course, I was practically a foal, and wasn't sure what to do in such a situation. I waited out by the door while my Mama talked to the Stallion in the white coat. "Are you sure there isn't anything we can't do?" "No Maam'. I am so sorry. She is in too much critical condition. I suggest you say your last goodbyes now." "No, that is ok. I'd rather not." My Mother came out of the door, tears welled up in her coral eyes. "Mommy, what is happening?" My mom sighed. She looked at me, practically crying now. "M-marina. Do you know how Maggie likes the water? Well, she swallowed too much of the water. That water had major amounts of pollutants in it. I'm afraid she won't live to see that water hole again." By now, I had not accumulated as much info as my mom thought I had. "Mommy, is Maggie ok?" My mom raised her hoof to the door. "Go take a look." I trotted to the door, popping my little head in the door."Maggie?" I headed to the bedside. Right there, I saw my Maggie, hooked into tubes and needles. "Marina, don't try too hard to please me. I'm always here." Those were her last words until she slipped away. Nurses tugged me out of the waiting room. Tears caked my eyes, and stayed there for days.

I had moved into my grandma's house for awhile. I had to be away from all the pain in memories in my head. I understood what was going on. In my mind, my mother didn't have any time for me, and had dumped me off there. I didn't like my grandma. She was from Canterlot, and acted like a total snob. My grandma was considerably young, following the fact that her daughter was a teen mom. My grandma always complained on how I was a 'mistake' and how 'I couldn't get my cutie mark if I tried'. So one day, I left. Taking Maggie's picture of me and her by the water hole, and all the money out of Grandma's safe, I headed out the door. I trusted my insticts and headed near the north. I sang the little song that Magenta had taught me.
