My Little Pony: Friendship is Fourth and One
Chapter 16: Verbal warfare
Previous Chapter Next ChapterDJ stirred in his bed, not wanting to go to work at the spa. He hated it, every second of it. He graoned as he made an attempt to stand up, and unfortunately, suceeding. He got dressed, and was beginning to wash his face, waking himself up, when there was a knock on the door. But not his door, the door to the room just across the hall. The door to Ryan's room. DJ's curiosity got the best of him, as he went to investigate.
He cracked his door, just enough to see out. A white alicorn standing in front of the door. Ryan opened it, and a smile spread on her face. "Celestia, good morning!" She said, still in her sleepwear.
"Good morning to you as well. May I come in?"
"Of course!" Ryan stepped aside, allowing the alicorn through. When she shut the door, DJ ran over. He pressed his ear to the door.
"What brings you by?"
Celestia sighed. "I have a couple questions for you, if you wish to answer?"
"Sure!" He heard a chair scoot across the floor. "What do ya wanna know?"
"First off, how are your burns?"
"Much much better! IIt's unreal, this magic! I was healed in days what would have taken weeks!"
There was a chuckle. "Very good. Cadence is very, very sorry for what she did. It was her reaction."
"I already said it was alright! I mean, I did put a couple shots in her." There was a small laughter. "'Pop! Pop! Pop, watchin' niggas drop,' as DJ says when he's playing his games." DJ smiled to himself. Never got to get her to play Halo....
"You and DJ? He said you too were almost complete oppisites?"
"Well that's the understatement of the century! You see, he calls himself a 'gamer,' so devoted in his games, he was actually going to college to learn code, and attempt to land a job at Valve."
"Code?"
"I don't understand it, but it's a bunch of numbers and words in order, and they do different things. Electronic stuff."
"And what of you? What did you want to do?"
"Honestly, I want to be a vet. Sure, my hobby involves roping animals, but I just love being around them!"
DJ could hear intrest in Celestia's voice. "Oh really? And what of your education? Do you value it?"
"Of course! Without it, we're lost!" DJ knew what Celestia was doing. He knew exactly what she was doing.
"That's good! Always good to see others that value knowledge!" Before DJ was about to stop the conversation, she asked another question. "What happened to DJ?"
This took Ryan by surprise. "What do you mean?"
There was a small sigh. "Something happened in his past, Luna has seen it in his dreams. Nothing would ever act the way they do without just cause."
Ryan let out a deep breath of air. "He really doesn't like to talk about it, and only a few people know. I really don't think I should go behind his back." DJ smiled. Thanks.
"That is understandable." DJ sighed. Maybe she should know... she's providing the roof over my head...
DJ knocked on the door. "Ryan? It's alright... tell her the story..." He said as he opened the door. "I haven't been thinking straight, maybe a blast from the past will set my head in the right direction."
Ryan nodded, turning to the white alicorn. "His dad, when DJ was born, was a senior in highschool, seventeen years old. His dad and biological mother lived together for a little over a year, and married as soon as possible. Highschool sweet hearts." She motioned to DJ. "That's the reason he requested we have different rooms. He knows he'll be tempted, and doesn't want to repeat a major mistake in his family."
DJ nodded. "Still got the 'V card' too..."
Ryan continued. "At two years old, his dad caught the mother cheating with another man. They divorced immediately, leaving a toddler in a custody battle. The battle lasted for years, and technically, isn't over. But when he was forced to go to her house, made him want to leave even more. They were pushing drugs, abusive, and just put DJ in a corner of hell..." She turned to DJ. "But even through all that, he remained firm... until last year."
Celestia raised a brow. "What happened last year?"
DJ sighed. "One of my best friends had a baby when he was in the eighth grade. I started to distance myself from him, to protect myself. Well, his mother started talking with that b... woman, and the two became best friends. So he started inviting me over, before I knew what happened. I kept saying no, I got track, or no, I have YouTube videos to record, I was a YouTube wannabe, anyway, I finally say I'll come over. When my dad goes to drop me off, something churned in my stomach. My gut. I looked over and said 'can you wait until I text you? Something's not right...' He said of course, and I went inside.
"When I opened the door, I was greeted by warm smiled from Bryan and his mom and dad, sister and aunt. They all said hey, and pointed a chair out for me. I sat, and went to grab the controller, zombies playing on the screen. Then, a hand grabbed my wrist. I looked up, and behold. The one I hated most in the world."
Celestia was wide eyed. "What did you do?"
DJ rubbed the back of his head. "Something I'm not proud of... at all... and probably deserve to burn in hell for it." Celestia continued to stare. "I had the blade dance around my fingers, and when they stopped, it was resting on his baby's neck." DJ put his head between his hands. "He tried to rush towards me, so I picked the baby up, blade still pressed to the neck. I started screaming commands, move here, movr there, F you. I eventually backed out of the house, set the screaming baby on the steps, and sprinted for the car." DJ looked up. "That's when I realized, that fear is a powerful tool. Trust is a deadly trait. And betrayal, is the biggest reality check you can ever experience. I realized, that I was way too open to too many people."
"You threw away friendships, because of the act of one other?" She asked.
"I had to! What else could I do? Let them all just tear me apart? No. I wouldn't let anyone close to me." DJ looked over to Ryan. "That's why I was so awkward at first, I didn't want to fall for someone, and them drop me, like in the past." DJ stood up. "Celestia, spa. Now."
She nodded, her horn ignited, and he was gone. In his scented prison. Celestia looked at Ryan. "So his best friend went behind his back?"
Ryan nodded. "His family even had plans on moving to Colorado that summer, but DJ said no. He said that it would make them look like cowards, running away from their problems. So they stayed."
Celestia lookw d around the room. "Would you mind, if my student came in here to ask you a few questions as well?"
Ryan leaned back in her seat. "I have nothing better to do!" She said with a smile.

"Ask her if she likes parties!" Pinkie said as she, Twilight, and her friends all made their way to the new alien's room.
"Pinkie, just ask her yourself! Princess Celestia said she had no problem with answering questions." Twilight almost squeeled as she got closer to the door. "A face to face conversation with an alien!"
Rainbow Dash snorted. "Yeah, an alien the almost killed Princess Cadence!"
Twilight looked back at her cyan friend. "She said she was sorry..." She took in a deep breath as she opened the door. They were met with two warm smiles.
"You must be Twilight, and her friends!" Ryan said, standing up and extending her arm.
As Twilight went to extend her hoof, a pink blur darted in front of her. "Hi! My name's Pinkie Pie! What's your name?"
"My name's Ryan." She said with a smile. "Pinkie, could you introduce me to your friends?"
The mare's smile was ear to ear. She bounded over to each of the ponies, saying hello, and learning a little about them. When they came to the cyan pegasus, it was a little more tense. "And this is Rainbow Dash! She's the fastest flier in all Equestria!"
Ryan stuck out her hand. "So you're competitive?"
Rainbow Dash gave a nod. But nothing more.
Ryan made a weird face, and drew her hand back. "So, Twilight, it's my understanding you wanted to ask me a few questions?"
Twilight beemed with exitement. "Yes! Yes of course!" Her horn ignited, rolling out a long scroll. "First question. Where are you from?"
"Born, or raised?"
Twilight shrugged. "Both."
"Born in Norman, raised in Noble."
"And what about....." She stalled out, thinking she crossed some line.
"He was born in Norman, too, spent hie first few years in Maysville, then moved to Noble. All in the state of Oklahoma, United States."
Twilight was writing notes furiously. "What was the device you used to attack Cadence called?"
She let out a long breath of air. "It's a gun, a pistol. It is a P32 pocket pistol. DJ's is a shotgun, a BPS."
Before Twilight could ask another question, Pinkie jumped in front of her, sticking her hoof in the air. "Oh! Pick me! Pick me!"
"Alright, Pinkie?"
"What's your favorite color?!"
"Green."
"Do you have any pets?!"
"Many."
"What kinds?"
"Dogs, cats, horses, cattle, pigs, goats, mules, donkeys, and a rabbit, but she comes and goes."
"Do you like parties?"
"Planned or surprise?"
The ponies all stared, their jaws on the floor as the human was able to keep up with Pinkie's questions. Giving an answer immediatley afterwards. The back and forth between the impressed even Celestia. The way Ryan kept her smile, while not only surving, but over throwing the bombardment of questions thrown at her. Then, the tables turned, and somehow, Ryan was the one asking questions to the hyper pony. Where was she from? What did she do? Favorite food?
Needless to say, Ryan would fit in just fine with Equestria.
But how could Celestia get DJ to her level of joy? Next Chapter: Let the games... Estimated time remaining: 2 Hours, 10 Minutes
