Chapter 1: Rarity's Cake

It was a beautiful day in Equestria, but more specifically, a beautiful day in Ponyville. Many ponies filled the streets, greeting each other as they passed by.
Inside Sugarcube Corner, Mr and Mrs cake had their bags, for they were going on vacation. They were giving Pinkie Pie some simple instructions before they left.
"Okay Pinkie. We'll be gone for a week, so you'll have to do your best to get all the orders done on time, okay?" said Mrs Cake, as they were leaving.
"You can count on me, Mr and Mrs Cake!" said Pinkie Pie with enthusiasm.
"Oh, I'm sure you'll do a fine job on your own!" said Mr Cake.
Mrs Cake looked at the clock hanging on the wall behind Pinkie.
"Well, we should be leaving now. Bye, Pinkie!" she said as she walked out the door.
"And don't forget those orders!" Mr Cake said before he left.

Pinkie Pie was excited. She hadn't been allowed to take care of the bakery on her own for a while. Probably because of what happened last time. Pinkie cringed at the flashback. Good thing Mr Cake confiscated the rest of her fireworks...
"Well, we better take a look at those orders!" Pinkie said to Gummy.
She bounced joyfully over to orders list and started looking through them.
"Gee. This is a long list." Pinkie said, as she stared at thick stack of paper.
"Well, we'd better get started!" she said to Gummy, who was 'gumming' one of the balloons tied to the counter.

Pinkie Pie immediately got to work, baking all of the orders. There was cupcakes and birthday cakes and pies and tarts and all sorts of other baked goods. As the last pony picked up his order, Pinkie sighed with relief.
"Well, I'm glad that's over." Pinkie yawned and looked at the clock. "Wow! It's 9 o'clock already?"
Pinkie Pie got into her pyjamas and got into bed. She instantly fell asleep from working all day.

The next day, Pinkie Pie woke up. She had some breakfast and opened the bakery. She sat there, behind the counter, waiting for someone to come in. As she sat there, she saw Gummy attempting to chew on a piece of paper.
"Huh? What's this?" She asked herself as she grabbed the paper out of Gummy's mouth.
"Oh no!" she yelled when she read it. "It's Applejack's order! She wanted a cake for Rarity's birthday! It must've fallen behind the counter!"
She started to panic. Her birthday was tomorrow! Just a day to make a super terrific amazing birthday cake for Rarity!
"We have to start now!" Pinkie Pie said to Gummy. "Rarity's cake has to be perfect!"
Pinkie immediately got to work, but the pressure was putting her off a bit. She put in too much milk, she kept getting shells in the mixture and she even turned the oven up 100° too high! It was a disaster! But she didn't stop.
The day was up and the cake was 'done'. It was burnt, it was gooey and lumpy and it barely had any decorations on it. This was the worst cake she had ever made!
Right at that moment, Applejack walked in.
"So Pinkie, did you finish the-" She stopped talking once she saw the monstrosity that sat on the bench. It was a mess! "Umm... What is that?"
"That's, umm, Rarity's cake." Pinkie said, sweating a little.
"Wha- but- That can't be Rarity's cake!" Applejack said
"I know. It's just that I panicked and rushed, so it turned out a little, you know, awful."
"A little?" said Applejack as she stared at the cake once more.
Pinkie Pie didn't know what to do! There was only one day left until Rarity's party! She quickly put together a plan, but she was going to have to spend all night on it.
"Don't worry, Applejack. I'll bake a new cake tomorrow and it will be even bigger and better than anything I've done before!" Pinkie Pie said, trying to make up for the other cake.
"Alright. Are you sure you can handle it?" asked Applejack.
"Yeah, I'll be fine! It'll work out!" said Pinkie Pie.
"Okay, I hope you can get it done in time." she said, closing the door as she left.
"So do I." Pinkie said to herself.

She got straight to work. Not a second could be spared to complete Rarity's cake on time. She deserved the best cake ever! She started with the basics. She threw in flour, milk, eggs, butter and sugar. She mixed it all together in a big bowl and poured it into trays of different sizes. Into the oven it went.
While it was baking, Pinkie Pie rushed up stairs. She grabbed a pencil and some paper and started working on the design. It had to look as good as it tasted. Drawing upon drawing upon drawing. None of them looked good enough! Until she drew a masterpiece! It was amazing! Rarity was going to love it.
She ran back downstairs and checked the cake. She was up there for so long that it was almost done. While it was finishing, she made up some icing to go on the cake.
She took the cake out of the oven and assembled it into a tall tower. She then iced it and decorated it into a work of art. She stood back and looked at it. It was amazing! She couldn't believe what she was looking at.
She had been up all night, so she went upstairs into bed. She fell asleep almost instantly. However, this didn't last long because her alarm clock went off three minutes later.
She got ready for Rarity's party and covered the cake up. She wanted it to be a surprise. She reached Rarity's house and placed the cake inside.
They played some games, danced and drank punch. The party was going great! Then, Rarity called everyone over to the table for Pinkie Pie to unveil the cake. Pinkie walked up to it and was about to reveal the cake.
"This cake is my birthday present to Rarity." she said.
She could tell that Rarity couldn't wait any longer. And she had good reason to. This was no ordinary cake.
Pinkie Pie unveiled the cake and everybody gasped. It was beautiful. It was a tower of cake, covered in white icing and decorated with twisting spirals of purple icing, with purple flower decorations down the sides and topped with white sprinkles.
Everypony gasped when they saw it. Rarity was nearly crying at the sight.
"It's... It's beautiful!" said Rarity to Pinkie Pie.
All of the other ponies nodded in agreement.
"Well, I'm glad you like it." Pinkie said.
"Like it? I love it!" Rarity said with joy.
Pinkie smiled and blushed. She liked making her friends happy.
"Could you excuse me for a moment?" said Pinkie.
She walked down Rarity's hallway and walked around the corner.

The other ponies waited for Pinkie Pie to return, so they could eat the cake, but she didn't. They all went down to where Pinkie Pie had walked off to and then they saw her on the couch. Fast asleep.
