Scattered Memories
It was a cold night. All over Equestria there was a horrible chill. The cold weather came from the near by mountain range, and it was picked up by a strong breeze, so it spread rapidly. All over the towns and cities there was silence. Everypony was in doors. Nothing. Except for the occasional trundle of a cart, or the sound of ponies out late trotting around the empty streets, trying to get home, or into shelter. Even Canterlot seemed quiet that night.
There were a few places, however where the silence was broken, in the northern mountain range of black rock dragons roared. In the Great sea to the east the waves were splashing noisily against the cliffs. One of the other places wear the silence was broken was the Everfree Forest. Insects chirped and birds sung, but only few at that for even though the animals fended for themselves they knew the greater predators of the night scavenged the forest for prey. The occasional branch snapped, or some rocks fell down one of its large ravines, sending eerie echoes throughout the forest. All of Everfree was like this. Except near the northern outskirts...
“No...gotta keep moving” thought the pegasus. “why though?... don't know...can't remember...but gotta...keep moving...” He collapsed on the floor, as his legs gave way.
He felt tired. So very very tired. He could tell that he was covered in dirt, and soot, but he couldn't remember why. His wings were worn out, he could tell that very well, even trying to lift them was a fight, let a lone try and fly away.
He stumbled through the forest, until he came upon a clear patch. The moon was shining down onto it, and there was a statue in the middle. He dragged himself up to the statue and stared at it. He couldn't make out anything about it. All of its features seemed weird and distorted to him.
“must...not..stop...uh....” The pegasus collapsed again in front of the statue. He tried to get up but his legs wouldn't respond. He used all of his energy that he had left just to get up, but to no avail. Why try? no pony was going to find him out here...he closed his eyes...

Twilight Sparkle had woke up late that day. She tried not to wake spike, as Pinkie had held one of her party's last night for Rainbow Dash. This time, the party was A-very-good-try-and-its-a-shame-you-didn't-get-in party. It was a great party.
Pinkie tried her hardest to make a “Super duper extra awesomely super terrifically special!” party for Rainbow Dash. She had entered in a competition to get into the Wonderbolts, but she wasn't the only one there. Although she was fast, she was only really good on straights, were she could pull off her legendary Sonic rain boom, but it was only a normal race track. Dash kept getting caught of at the turns.
Building up those kind of speeds and turning didn't go well together. Rainbow had come 2nd, but that wasn't good enough unfortunately.
The winner would then get tested against the team themselves on a long straight, that was why Dash was so unhappy when she found out she didn't get in because they all knew she would of won. The Wonderbolts were good, but they couldn't break the sound barrier.
It ended very late, and spike couldn't stay awake much longer at the time, and neither could Twilight. She splashed some cold water onto her face to get herself more awake, then headed out to Zecora's house. The herbs that were growing in the Everfree Forest at the moment were a very particular type, and they only grew in the beginning of summer. The Herbs in their raw state were very good for healing, and made a nice tasting tea as well. Since Zecora lived in the forest, she was the best to ask for some, and even if she didn't have any, Twilight was certain that she would help her get some. She eventually turned up at Zecoras, and knocked politely on the door.
“Come in, Twilight Sparkle” said Zecora from the other side. Twilight wasn't sure how Zecora always seemed to know who was there at her door all of the time and one day she planned to ask her. But not today.
“Hello Zecora” said Twilight as she came in. Zecora smiled at her. “I was wondering if you had any Purple Avens here that I could have. I have been experimenting and feel like I would like to try out its healing properties for my self, and how much of a nice cup of tea it makes.” they both laughed.
“Hmmm Purple Avens is what you require?” rhymed Zecora “I do not have any with me, but I will help you if get some if that is what you desirer”
“That would be very helpful, thank you Zecora” replied Twilight happily. Zecora strapped her saddle bag on, and took a look outside.
"We should leave and get those herbs you seek, before Everfree becomes to bleak" She rhymed, frowning
That's another thing that Twilight never understood. How can Zecora always find a rhyming word for every sentence? That is another mystery that Twilight some day wishes to discover.
Maybe she should use the word orange in one of her sentences late on to find out how Zecora would react?
They set off into the forest. Twilight was well aware of the dangers that lurked here, and she had prepared a spell that would camouflage her and Zecora right into the background. You could never be to careful in the Everfree Forest. After a good thirty minuets of foraging, they had collected an ample supply. They may have gotten a little dirty, okay, a lot dirty whilst trying to get one on a hill. The mud was slippy so they both fell down it. Zecora and Twilight weren't hurt,it was still funny all the same.
“Thank you for helping me Zecora, I would have taken a lot longer if it weren't for your help” Twilight said. Zecora smiled, then nodded.
“it was a pleasure helping you,and seeing you drop by too” she replied. Zecora waved Twilight good bye, and Twilight set off back to Ponyville.
When she was walking, Twilight came to a crossing. One way went deeper into the forest, the left path took a longer but more scenic route out, and the right path was a straight trot back to the town She had come prepared if anything should attack her, after all and the Everfree Forest was a beautiful place, just a dangerous one. After having a quick debate with herself , she decided to take the left path. Twilight was glad she had chosen to go this way. It was indeed very beautiful. The kind of setting that would inspire an artist, she thought. Twilight continued to walk through Everfree, until she came to a clearing. It had an ancient old statue in the middle of it, but that wasn't what made her jump. There was a pegasus, slumped against the side of the statue. He wasn't moving.
“Oh no” she thought “what am I going to do?” Twilight galloped towards him quickly, and check to see if he was ok.
“Hmmm” she thought. Twilight's medical skills were limited, but she could tell that this pegasus was badly injured. Twilight had walked this path before, and she could remember that the exit was still some distance away from here. She couldn't just leave him here, but Twilight needed help to carry him back...she would have to go and get help.
“Wait!” she thought “I know, I'll try to teleport us both back!...but I've never tried that before, and from what I have read up, it can be a little risky...no! I must try, I can't just leave this pegasus to die out here!” she focused her magic up, until she had a secure lock on them both and teleported. Both ponies disappeared in a white flash.
Wake up Call
“Where did you find him?” asked Applejack.
“Is he Ok?” asked Fluttershy worried.
“Do you know who the stallion is?” asked Rarity. As soon as Twilight had brought back the mystery pony and her friends found out, it was non-stop questions from all of them. Well, almost all of them. Rainbow Dash was there to, but she didn't ask anything about him, she just, well, stared at him, as if she knew him from some place. When Twilight asked, she assured her that she didn't know him. She even did a pinkie promise on it, but Twilight was still suspicious.
Later on in the day, there was a knock on the door. Twilight went to answer it.
“Hello, how can I help...oh, hello Nursered Heart, its good that you arrived” said Twilight “I found this poor pegasus in the Everfree Forest... he looks pretty messed up, can you check him out for me please?”
“Of course Twilight” she said kindly. The Nurse put down her medical bag, and went over to inspect the pegasus.
“Hmmmm”she said “he seems to be ok... he looks very worn out, and by the state of his wings he had been flying for 3 hours solid” Rainbow Dash whistle, impressed. Even for herself, flying 3 hours without landing or taking a break, not once must be tiring and even before that, how long had he flow?
“his condition is stable” the nurse continued “but it may be rather difficult for him to fly for a while. apart form that, he is fine. Just make sure he gets lots of sleep and rest” They all let out a sigh of relief at that.
“How many bits do you want for that check up?” asked Twilight.
“Don't worry about the pay” she said smiling “it was just a check up and you're my friends”
“wow, thanks!” replied Twilight. Nursered Heart said her good bye's to the others and left. So now the ponies were alone again, and waited for this mystery pony to awake.

It was dark. Very dark, I mean, it was as if somepony blind folded him, or maybe it was magic? He couldn't tell, but at least it gave him time to think about stuff. Important stuff, but first there was something really important to remember first...but what was it... ah yes! My name!...name,name,name... ah yes... that was it.... my name is... is... I am Rain Storm... yea that was it... hey look, a light! Is this the place were all of those ponies were talking about? The light at the end of the tunnel? And I didn't believe them! Ah well, here I am now, well I guess I gotta go... the pegasus started to walk the light. He was almost there when suddenly he said
“Oh yea, that was the other important thing! I think I left the water on at home, I got to go” and he galloped off in the other direction.
- - - - - -
“uuuggghhh” mumbled the stallion
“hey look everypony!” said pinkie happily. They all crowded around the waking pegasus.
“uugghh” he mumbled again and slowly opened his eyes.
“wa?” he said quietly. He pushed him self up and looked around “wa!?” he said again, but louder
“Heelloooo” said pinkie loudly to him.
“WA!!??” he said and fell backwards, almost off the bed “who!? What, where!?... where am I?” he asked confused “and who are you?” The stallion was a dark grey, with a midnight blue coloured mane and tail. His cuite mark was in the shape of a rain cloud, and he had dark green eyes. Despite is rather dark and menacing appearance, he looked a very nice pony.
“wo, wo slow down there partner” said Applejack “ we'll answer all of your questions in time, but for now try to relax”
“relax, Relax?? are you kidding? I woke up in some strangers house, with no idea where I am or what I am doing here, surrounded by 4 ponies I don't know, and then to suddenly get attacked by a bouncing crazy looking pink one!!!” said the pegasus, pointing at Pinkie. He tried to get into the air, but he suddenly cried out in pain and dropped down back into the bed again. The pegasus took a look at the ponies around him. There was a pink one, a orangey one, a purple one and a cyan one.
“just calm down please!” said Twilight “look, we're friendly, other wise when I found you I would have just left you there unconscious.”
“I...I guess...” he said “sorry about that, its just these things don't usually happen to me a lot, and I kinda panicked”
“don't worry about it! Now, about your other questions. You are in the town of Ponyville. The nearest major city is Canterlot. I'm Twilight sparkle, that's Applejack, Pinkie pie, and that's-”
“And im Rainbow Dash” Rainbow butted in. Twilight rolled her eyes “The fastest flyer in Equestria and the one and only pegasus that can pull off the Sonic rain boom, you heard of me?”
“oh yea” he said
“sweet, when” she asked
“oh just now, heh” he chuckled. Rainbow seemed a little annoyed at this.
“oh, I almost forgot” he said “my name is...umm...Rain storm! Yea that was it, rain storm... but my friends just call me Storm...I think”
“are you all right?” asked Twilight “I think you have a small case of amnesia”
“ama-what now?” said Pinke
“Amnesia is a condition in which one's memory is lost.” started Twilight, looking happy to put her knowledge to good use “The causes of amnesia have traditionally been divided into categories. Memory appears to be stored in several parts of the limbic system of the brain, and any condition that interferes with the...”
“Normal version please?” Rainbow Dash butted in again.
“ugh.. its were you forget stuff” said Twilight, annoyed.
“Ah well” said Storm “I'm sure I will remember eventually...I hope” he added. He got a better look around the place. He was in some sort of... tree was it? Yea, like a library inside a tree. Damn that's a lot of books! did Twilight read all of those!? Well... this place is kinda cool, if a bit nerdy.
After a bit, Storm managed to get out of his bed with out falling over.
“So...Ponyville, huh...mind if I take a look around?” he asked
“Of course!” replied Twilight “but try not to fly, the Nurse said that you had been using those wings for around 3 hours straight”
“Why would I do that?...” he thought “ack, I can't remember! Damn amnesia...” He slowly got up. His hooves were killing him! What happened... Storm trotted, no, stumbled about half a meter forwards and toppled against the wall
“heh, umm how long was I out for?” he asked
“ummm” said Twilight “well, I found you on Friday”
“what day is it today?”
“its Tuesday...”
“I was out for 4 days!?” he exclaimed
“yeah..." she replied
“Ah well, it only makes me want to get into the fresh air a lot more if i've been out cold for four days straight. can I take a look around Ponyville now?” he asked
“Of course!” said Twilight “I bet your dying to” Storm nodded, and opened the door, and stepped into the bright sunny day
New Places, New Faces
Rain Storm exited onto the streets of Ponyville. Celestia's sun was out and shining brightly, and there wasn't a cloud in sight. Everypony was having a great day. Even the cuite mark crusaders were successful at making a raft for a bit, but it fell apart and they all got soaked, but didn't care. It was fun.
Storm inhaled a big breath of fresh air, and felt good. It was nice to be in such a great place. He couldn't remember where he had came from before, but that would be something that he would have to find out later, he waved goodbye to all of the ponies had some jobs to be done. Pinkie had to go back to the bakery, Applejack had to buck some apples down and Twilight had to get on with her studies.
Almost all of them had a job to do at least, because Rainbow Dash said she had some official weather patrol business to do, but Applejack just told him that she was going to take a nap on some cloud near by. It was great that he was outside now, but his legs were still not agreeing which way he told them to go.
Storm had took a good look round Ponyville, the place was real nice. The stuff at the bakery was really tasty, not to mention the apples that grew in Applejack's farm. He was having a really great time, but wasn't to sure where he was actually trying to go, and achieve with all the wondering, but it was still great fun anyway. Storm was trotting (a bit wobbly) down the path when he turned around to see Rainbow dash flying past him. He was trying to put on his best behaviour, since he was in an unknown place full of ponies he didn't know, but seeing her fly past, it accidentally let it slip.
“lucky” he muttered under his breath, but not quietly enough. Rainbow Dash stopped, and went over to him.
“what?” she asked
“nothing...” he replied
“no, I heard you say something, what was it?”
“well, I just said you were lucky”
“lucky?”
“yea, your wings are fine” he said sadly “I cant even hover! And to make things worse, I can almost hear them telling me that they wanna fly but I can't and its killing me!
“ouch” she replied.
“wow, poor guy” Rainbow Dash thought. Storm looked at the sky
“wow” he said “is it that late already?” the sun was setting behind the Everfree Forest, making a warm orange glow over the town.
He looked at it, with Rainbow's figure silhouette against it
“wow... that sure is one good sunset...wait... that reminds me of...something. I remember seeing a sunset like that before a while ago, but where...” he thought.
“Hey... hello? Any pony in there? Equestria to Storm, respond!” said Dash, wondering why he was just standing there looking at her.
“Wa?” he said realising what he was doing “Sorry about that, I didn't know what came over me.” he said
“don't worry about it”she replied “ii better be getting home now, see you some other time”
“ sorry for keeping you Dash” he apologised
“hey, its cool” she replied
“oh yea, do you know the nearest hotel? I need a place to stay for a while” he asked
“of course, there's one at the other end of the road, take a left then a right. If you go past Sugarcube, then you've gone to far”
“sweet thanks” Storm started to trot off again, when he stopped “Darn! I have no bits!... what am I going to do now?” his head drooped. Rainbow stood there, and weighed out the facts. He was a stallion, who she only just met this morning which had a major case of amnesia, and she was thinking about letting him stay with her! Well, he seemed nice enough, and I don't think he would like to stay with pinkie out of all ponies... Twilight has a big report or whatever to do, AJ is busy with the apples, Rarity's carrying out a huge order and fluttershy is gonna be scared to death just at the sight of him!... well, I guess I have no choice.
“hey, storm, you wanna come to my place? I'll let you stay for a while, or until you get a stable job” she said
“Sweet really? Thanks a tone Dash, this means a lot. Its gonna be nice to stay with a freind” said storm perking up “we are friends, right?”
“um, sure of course” she replied uneasily.
“Awesome!” he said “were do you live?”
“on a cloud house, near the edge of town”
“that's going to be a problem then”
“Why?” she asked
“my wings! I can't fly remember!”
“Ah” They both stood next to each other, deep in thought.
“I know!” rainbow dash exclaimed “You could use pinkie's flying contraption!
“Pinkie's what now?... aww man, I don't think in going to enjoy this”
- - - - - -
“c'mon, almost there!” Rainbow encouraged. She was trying as hard as she could not to laugh. Storm was having a hard time making the thing turn correctly, let alone fly. He eventually (but rather ungracefully) landed it on the could.
“(pant) don't (pant) ever (pant) make me do THAT (pant) again” he said sliding off. Rainbow couldn't contain herself any longer. She burst out laughing, even Storm joined in.
After they had finished, Dash and Storm stood and trotted over to her front door.
“Well, its not much, but its home” she said, getting a key from under her door mat. Inside looked just as grand as the outside, just full of stuff.
“yea... I don't get many visitors, so I don't bother to tidy up, sorry”
“heh, don't worry its cool” he replied.
she lead him thought her living room, until they came to a corridor.
“ok, here's your room. This is the bathroom and here's my room. The bathroom and my room are opposite each other, so don't get them mixed up in the middle of the night!” she threatened. Storm nodded, and took a mental note.
He went inside his given room, and looked around, it was fairly mess free with what you would expect a spare bedroom to have, accept for a few Wonderbolts posters. By the time rainbow had finished showing Storm around the rest of her home, Luna's moon was high in the sky.
“is it that late already? I better get to bed. I've got a busy day tomorrow ” Rainbow said.
“ok, night Dash”
“night”
Storm close the door and got into his bed. It was very comfy, but then again, he couldn't remember sleeping in any beds before. Damn amnesia., He thought about today, and his new friends, and without realising, he fell into a deep sleep.
The Dream Sequence
There was noise. And lots of it. Fire. Screams. Collapsing buildings. Rubble. Stone upon Stone. Wind. Very loud Wind. Storm opened his eyes. He was on the floor in a long stone corridor. There was a long fine red carpet with gold sown into it. There were expensive looking pictures on the walls, and the lights were grand chandeliers. Whoever owned this place, was a very rich pony. Storm stood up, and turned around. Behind him was part of the ceiling that had collapsed in front of the front door. He wondered where he was meant to go, until he heard a scream that was clearer than the others. He recognised it instantly.
“SISTER!!!” he shouted, but heard no response “HOLD ON SIS, I'M COMING! I WON'T LET THEM HURT YOU!!!” Storm started to gallop down the hall way as fast as he could. He didn't know how he actually had a sister in the first place, but that didn't matter at the moment. What did matter was saving her.
After what seemed like an eternity, he burst out into a landing. It was very tall, and there was lots of rubble and fire in there. There were only two places to go, the rest was either blocked by rubble or fire, to big double doors in front of him ,or some stairs to the left. The rest was blocked off by rubble. Storm galloped up to the double doors in front of him, and tried to break it down.
“SIS! YOU IN THERE? HOLD ON!” he shouted against the noises around him. He heard his sister scream again, but from the top floor. He flew upward to the top part of the room. There were some grand double doors with windows in them in front of him. One the other side was a large black unicorn with red eyes on the large balcony on the other side of the doors, holding his sister with magic in mid air. Storms sister looked in a bad way. The Black unicorn noticed Storm, and smiled. The unicorn stretched his wings. He was an alicorn? Who was this pony? He tightened his grip on Storms sister, and she screamed again.
“LET HER GO! SIS, CAN YOU HEAR ME? SIS, SISTER! SNOW! CAN YOU HEAR ME? YOU'RE GOIND TO BE ALRIGHT!” Storm tried the handle, but the it was jammed. He flew back, and flew with all his might at the door. He broke it down and flew right into a hoof. SMACK. Storm was on the floor, barely conscious.
That confused him. No pony could of bucked that hard! Then, storm noticed a glow around the the two pegasus. Damn magic. They went up to him, and lifted him up, so the alicorn could see him at eye height.
“dispose of this worm immediately” he said, and turned to Storm's sister.
“brother, brother! Storm can you hear me? You've got to get up!” she said to him
“quiet you!” snapped the alicorn and tightened his grip on her. She screamed in pain.
“sis...” was all Storm could manage. The two pegasus dragged him forwards, and placed him upright on his two hind legs knee's on the edge of the balcony. The wall had broken away, and it was a long drop down.
The balcony was on top of a cliff. A very tall cliff. But that was not the thing that got his attention. There was a very large Tornado wreaking what appeared to be a village on the other side of the cliff. That's where the screams were coming from.
“you see that?” asked the alicorn “you did that. You made that tornado. Those ponies are dying because of your anger”
“no, brother, don't listen to him! You would never do such a thing! And your power isn't that strong, don't listen to that monsters lies!” shouted Snow
“I thought I told you to SHUT UP!” shouted the alicorn Snow.
Storm turned around to see the alicorn slam Snow into the ground.
“sis...” he muttered
“ha, pathetic” one the pegasus said and turned Storms head around, so he was looking down the cliff.
“so long, chum” said the same one, and the last thing Storm remembered was a sharp pain in the back of his head, and then black, as he fell to oblivion.
- - - - - -
Rainbow Dash woke with a start, as she heard a scream from Storms room. She groggily pull her self out of bed, and quickly readied her self for a intruder. Hey, it could be anypony. She entered Storms room, just to see him sitting up right on the side of his bed, panting heavily. Storm was pale, and had beads of sweat rolling down his for head and was shaking.
“are you ok? Did you have a nightmare?” she asked him, concerned. She thought that Storm tried to say something, but she didn't hear him properly.
“look, just calm down” she said “it'll be fine, trust me” Rainbow wasn't sure why she was being so nice to this pony. Was it out of guilt? But what had she done?... no, it defiantly wasn't out of guilt. Rainbow sat down next to Storm, wondering what he had dreamt of.
“What happened in your dream?” she asked. Storm gulped, and explained the story to her. Rainbow just sat and listened.
“Hmmmm” she said after he had finished “look, if its really bugging you, im sure Twilight would know what to do”
“yea” he said shaking “Thanks for the talk, it made me feel better”
“don't worry about it” she said “now go back to sleep! If you keep me up any longer, your gonna make me grumpy tomorrow, and trust me, you aren't gonna like a grumpy Rainbow Dash”
“umm... ok” he said a lied back down again “goodnight Dash...”
“you to Storm” she replied, and left his room. When she got back into her bed, she wondered if she should of stayed with him any longer, but Dash was to tired to think straight, and both pegasus fell back to sleep again...
Back in the Air
Storm slowly opened his eye's and looked around. Light had flooded his room from the window to his left. Storm didn't have the Nightmare again, but he kept waking up in the middle of the night. It was bugging his mind, and one of the things he really wanted was to do was talk to Twilight about it. If it was a memory from before, he needed to talk to a pony that would understand, and know what to do.
Storm pulled himself out of the bed, and stepped outside into the corridor. He thought that a shower would get him more awake, and sleepily headed down the corridor.
He opened the door to his right – into Rainbows room. Storm froze.
“Damn it! I should of remembered! Ah well, just move slowly out of the door...” Storm stopped, and looked across at Dash. Thankfully, she looked deep asleep when the second hit of bad luck hit. Her alarm went off. Bells started to ring in his bed.
“oh no” he thought, and quickly but quietly closed the door, but not quietly enough.
“wa?” said Dash “Storm, was that you? That was you wasn't it” She waited for a reply
“...no?” he answered hopefully.
“what did I tell you yesterday? I said NOT to get the doors mixed up, and what did you do?” she said annoyed “you mixed them up, and now you're gonna pay. I'll give you a five second head start to run, not that it'll do you any good”
“Well I'm gonna take it anyway” Storm said a bolted down the corridor, shortly followed by Dash. The chase was short, but fun all the same. Rainbow flew and collided into Storm, and they rolled over on the floor, both laughing and out of breath
“I'll let you off this time... Just don't do it again!” said Dash smiling. Storm nodded
“if it's ok, im gonna take a shower” said Storm
“sure go ahead” she replied “I gotta warm up. We've got rain clouds scheduled for today, and big ones to. You should stay inside or you're gonna get soaked”
“Well im heading to Twilights library to ask her about the dream I had. It seemed too real and familiar to be a fake”
“Ok, but I don't want you coming back with a cold cause im no medical pony”
“ok”
Storm headed back down the corridor, and took the correct door this time. After the chase, he was pretty much awake, but he wanted a shower anyway. He made sure that the water was hot, and stepped in. He relaxed and let out a happy sigh. The running water was nice, and he was enjoying every drop of it.
After a good long time in the shower, he stepped out, dried himself out, and walked out of the house into the morning. The breeze was nice, and felt good flowing through his wings. He remembered what the nurse had said about them, and he was fairly certain that the could at least try to hover. He started beating them, slowly first but them harder. He felt himself being lifted off the ground, until his hooves no longer touch the cloud. Storm smiled. The feeling of flying again was divine. He dared himself to go a little higher, and take a flight around the house. After a few times, Storm went a little faster, and faster until he brought up a good flying speed. He would of gone faster, but he wings suddenly cried out with pain, and he crashed nose first into the ground.
“oooooo, that looked painful” speculated Rainbow “Will he get up? Or is Storm down for the count?” Storm tried to reply, but got a mouth full of cloud instead.
“phft” he said muffled and spat out some cloud “ at least I actually can fly now, maybe not a fast I could, but hay I can fly. That's an achievement in itself”
“whatever... anyway, im going now to get that weather done, so you better go and get to Twilight before it hits. Seeya!” she said cheerfully and shot off like a bullet. He waved good bye and set off.
Storm arrived at Twilights just in time. Rainbow was right, it was throwing it down. He knocked at the door, and Twilight answered It quickly.
“Oh, hello Storm. Fancy seeing up here? Anyway, come inside quick.” said Twilight happily. Storm made his way inside, and sat down on a chair.
“so” asked Twilight “what type of book do you need? I've got a genre on almost everything”
“actually, I need to talk to you about something rather important.” he said “it's about this dream I had last night, I think it was from before I lost my memories”
“sounds normal to me, its probably the amnesia just wearing off, what makes it so special?”
“let me tell you” said Storm, and told her the story. He explained it in more detail to Twilight, feeling that she would understand more. At the end of his tale, her face was grim
“hmm... well that does sound bad. Look, I'll try and find a map of towns and cities around here that match your description, but I have very limited information so it will take some time... I wonder what other secrets your mind holds? I guess we will find out in time, but for now, stay here with me. Its pouring down with rain at the moment, and I got some purple Avens recently from the Everfree forest. It makes a delicious type of tea! Stay, won't you?” she asked. Storm smiled, and nodded. But what Twilight said bugged him. What secrets does my mind hold? Only time will tell.
Storm's stay at Twilight's lasted for a long time. After they had finished their tea, Twilight told Storm about her studies. She filled in any questions that Storm asked and told him about anything that he didn't know about the world. She even let him stay for lunch which he thought was very nice. He also talked to spike. He thought that spike was a nice guy and very helpful, although it was pretty obvious about his crush on Rarity. Once the Rain had stopped, Storm told Twilight that he was going to head back.
“Ok, it was nice having you around Storm. I'll get to work on finding out those towns for you, and come and tell me if you have any more recall dreams” she told him on his way out. Storm waved goodbye, and flew back to Rainbows house. He got in to find her already there. Rainbow was asleep, and looked worn out and soaked right down to her bones.
Storm was right. Rainbow did have a busy day. She wasn't fully asleep, but almost. She opened one eye a bit and took a look at Storm. He looked fine, but he was looking at her, which made Rainbow feel uneasy. He left the room and came back with a blanket, and put it on Rainbow, and tucked her in. This act of kindness took her completely by surprise, but she didn't blow her cover. She looked at him and smiled slightly, then fell to sleep...
Storm looked at Rainbow. Was it him or was she smiling? Probably just him, although, she did look very cute tucked up like that, but he kept that thought to himself.
“goodnight Dash” he whispered, and headed off to his own bed. He climbed in and though about the dream, but his mind kept straying to the image of Rainbow snuggled down under the blanket. He tried to think about something else, but his mind kept reverting to that image.
“Why am I thinking of her so much?” He wondered before falling into a deep sleep.
Weather memories
Storm woke to the sound of birds singing outside his window. He Lay there for a while, listening to their morning tune. He got up and went outside into the corridor, and took the right door this time, not that it would matter. Rainbow was still asleep on the sofa. Storm stepped into the shower, and let the warm water run away his troubles.
Rainbow Dash was just waking up from her sleep in the living room. She groaned and rolled over. Yesterday was difficult, even for the fastest and best flyer in all Equestria.
The storm that was scheduled over Everfree went a bit out of hand. There was no damage, major or minor, but the weather team got soaked. It was a lot harder after Cloud Shifter had to move back to Cloudsdale, so they were one pony down. She stood up and felt the blanket fall off her back.
“Why did Storm put this over me?” she wondered. Dash looked at the clock and saw she didn't have much time to get ready. There were more grey clouds scheduled today, and she had over slept! Rainbow galloped around the house in a mad dash to get thing ready.
Storm had just dried himself and stepped out of the shower, when a streak of cyan flew past him.
“wow! Be careful Dash, you almost hit me!” he said to her
“Sorry Storm, but im late for work, I gotta go ASAP!” she shouted back.
“hey, Dash? Mind if I come and watch? I've got nothing to do today."
“Really? You want to watch?” she asked “You can if you like, but it won't be very interesting. Then again, you might be lucky and see me pull of some of my signature moves!” she bragged. Storm chuckled, and they both went out.
When the two pegasus got there, Storm sat down on a near by cloud, and watched Rainbow and watched her team get to work.
“The weather team, huh” he thought “looks like a good-” His thought trail got cut off. The words weather team echoed in his head like it was something important... Suddenly, Storm's eyes widened. He was remembering...
- - - - - -
Storm heard a voice. It sounded familiar, but he couldn't put his hove on it. Darn Amnesia!
“Hey Storm! You ready? c'mon or your gonna be late!” said a excited Red pegasus in front of him.
“umm...sure” Storm replied uncertain. He felt anxious about what was about to happen, but why? And what was going to happen anyway? He felt himself get dragged down a corridor and outside. The light was very bright, and some houses and pegasus were there, or only half there due to his memory problem. They looked kind of creepy. He shook free of the red pegasus's grip, and just flew after him.
“wow, you sure are excited about this” Storm said
“Well duh! We get to go onto the weather team, isn't this awesome!?” The red pegasus happily replied.
“yea, I guess so” said Storm. They flew up to a group of pegasus in that were stood in a circle talking. The red pegasus tapped one of them on the back, and saluted.
“Weather team rookie Red Streak reporting for duty!” he said
“yea, and umm private Storm reporting as well” said Storm without much enthusiasm. Sure he was getting on the weather team, but he wanted to get into the sky and bust some clouds.
“so you're the new editions to our team, eh? Sweet. You both look good and ready to go.” said the golden pegasus in front of them “here's the weather report. Since you two are new, you can help Glider shunt those clouds over to the northern side of the town.”
Red look psyched, but Storm felt a little disappointed, it showed on his face.
“what's the matter kiddo?” asked the golden pegasus
“oh, its just that...that I wanted to do some cloud busting, that's all. But don't worry about it, I've only just started anyway” The golden pegasus smiled at him
“I'm sure I could pull a few ropes, after all, Boxer always likes help when it comes to bucking clouds” he said “I could get you started cloud busting by tomorrow, if you like”
“sweet really?” said Storm excited “wow thanks!”
“no problem” smiled the pegasus “off you to go now! Go get to work and there'll be a whole 20 bits in for you two” Red and Storm nodded enthusiastically
“oh yea” said the golden pegasus “just remember kiddo, get out of the rain”
“what do you mean? Its not raining, its fine-”
- - - - - -
“c'mon, what are you, crazy? If you keep sitting under that cloud you're gonna get soaked so lets go! lets get out of the rain!” said Rainbow Dash shaking him out of his flashback
“wa?” said Storm “umm, uh ok whatever you say” Rainbow chuckled and they both flew to a less rain prone cloud.
“you know” said Storm “all the time I've been here, nopony has ever called me by my first name”
“really? That's kind of weird” she said
“I know... I guess that Storm is a easier name to say. Plus, it sounds cooler” he admitted. They both laughed at this, but it stuck in his mind. Nopony called him by his first name, not even in my memories... why? This amnesia is really starting to get annoying now! Ah well, I can't do much about it now...
The two pegasus headed back to Rainbows house. Once they got back, it was quite late and both of them were tired.
“ughh” said Rainbow and collapsed on the sofa “what a day” Storm smiled and went to the bathroom. He dried himself off with a towel and headed back into the living room. Dash was still in the sofa with her eyes closed, but she smiled
“now no covering me with blankets this time, ok?” she said still smiling. Storm blushed a deep crimson red. Rainbow lazily opened one eye and chuckled.
“hay, don't worry about it. I'm not angry with you, quite the opposite actually”
Storm still said nothing, and continued to blush.
Rainbow got a good look at Storm. He was standing there looking down, nervously flicking his tail.
“Heh, he looks kind of... kind of...” Dash struggled to find the right word. Words like 'cute' and 'adorable' were what Twilight and Rarity would use. She was Rainbow Dash! The fastest flyer in all Equestria! She didn't use words like that!.. but she didn't know how else to describe him.
“you know...there's room for one more here with me” she said and patted the cushion beside her. “take a seat Storm” still blushing, he gingerly sat down next to Rainbow. Dash chuckled at his discomfort.
“honestly stop being such a wimp!” she said “Just cause you did a act of kindness doesn't mean you have to go all embarrassed about it!”
“I guess” he replied. Storm relaxed and let out a deep breath.
“man” she said closing her eyes again “what a day” Rainbow lay her head down on Storm's shoulder. She muttered something that Storm just couldn't t out, and fell asleep.
At first, Storm thought it was a joke, until he noticed her breaths were in a steady slow pattern, and he blushed deeply again. He thought about waking her up and telling her that she had fallen asleep on him, when his mind shouted at him
“why are you thinking that!? The mare of your dreams is fast asleep on your shoulder, go with it!”
Storm took his inner self 's advice and looked down at Dash
“you look...you're beautiful” he said softly. Storm smiled and closed his eyes and promptly fell asleep dreaming of the mare next to him...
Dark Memories
Storm woke with the sun in his eyes. He yawned and looked around and saw that Rainbow Dash was gone, well I didn't really expect her to stay with him, he was sure that she had lots of more important things to do than stay with himself. Storm rubbed his eyes, and groggily stumbled towards the bathroom. He took a nice long shower, and stepped out ready for the day ahead.
Storm headed outside and took a deep breath of fresh air, before shortly being hit by a speeding cyan pegasus
“oww... oh, sorry Storm” said Dash rubbing her head “i didn't expect you to come out just then” they both chuckled
“hay Dash, what are you doing here anyway? I thought you're doing the weather today” asked storm
“I'm going to, it's just that I need to warm up lots. We're one pony short, and until we get a replacement, it's gonna be a lot trickier” she replied
“well...” said storm “I don't have a job at the moment, and I was on the weather team in my old town!... I'm pretty sure I was at least”
“Sweet!” said Dash excited “it's a relief to know that you can fill in the gap, it'll make our jobs a lot easier. Well c'mon, lets go already!” and Dash was off in a flash.
“Man” thought Storm “she sure is happy” and flew after her as fast as he could
Storm eventually arrived at the weather team base, and stood next to the other ponies there. He felt a little nervous, he didn't know anypony...
“There you are! What took you so long?” said Rainbow Dash “ah well, lets get this started. Troops, assemble!” All of the pegasus jumped into line, Storm quickly hopped in at the end.
“Just because you're new...and what happened last night...doesn't mean I'm going to go easy on you private!” said Dash to Storm. Storm nodded.
“Right, you all know you're positions, so get to! Storm, you're with me and Fire Bolt” she said just like an army officer.
Fire Bolt lived up to his name by rocketing straight into the air, followed by Dash, and then Storm.
“Can you hear me!?” shouted Rainbow to Storm “ we're going to kick some clouds, and then move some to the north of Everfree, ok? Good. Lets roll!” Storm nodded. They flew to the clouds that needed kicking, and hovered by them.
“Storm, you get the right hand side, I'll get the middle and Fire, get the left” she said.
Storm flew towards the first one, turned and bucked out. He felt his hooves land squarely on the cloud, and heard it disappear with a 'poof!' He smiled to himself. Storm hadn't felt this much fun in ages.
“Its good to be back” he said grinning, and shot off.
The cloud bucking wasn't very hard. They got the job done fairly fast, and moved on. Moving the clouds, was an entirely different manner. You couldn't be to fast and hard, or the cloud was break up into smaller clouds or it would disintegrate completely. Making the perfect cloud was a long process, and they could sometimes cost a ton of bits. Storm did a good job, even though his first clouds broke up, he got the hang of it.
“Nice work storm” said Fire bolt “you did good” Storm smiled and nodded at Fire bolt.
“well well well!” said Dash “looks like the rookie's good at something! You handled those clouds nicely, how would you like a job on the weather team?”
“would I ever!” replied Storm
“Sweet” said Dash “it's always good to know that we've got another pegasus at our backs. I'll send you the forms tomorrow”
The two pegasus headed back to Dash's home after a long day out
“you really did good today. I think you're gonna make a great edition to our team!” said Dash happily. Storm nodded.
“Welcome to the team, rookie” she said. Storm opened his mouth to reply, but he stopped. He felt light headed and his legs and wings suddenly became weak. He collapsed, his vision blacking out...
- - - - - -
“Welcome to the team, rookie” said Dash. She waited for a reply, but none came. She looked to her left to see Storm stumbled to the ground.
“Oh no...” she breathed “Storm, storm? Can you hear me? Storm!” she picked him up, and flew him to her house as fast as she could, and put him down on the sofa.
“please wakeup, please wake up Storm! Please! Oh Celestia, please don't let anything be wrong with him...” she fell to her knees.
“Why am I so worried for him? I mean, I know I'm worried because he's a good friend, but I'm really terrified.” she thought
“please wake up...”
- - - - - -
Storm was lying down, face first. His whole body shook with anger.
“WHY!?” he screamed and stood up. The pegasus in front of him cowered down.
“WHY DID YOU DO IT RED!? I THOUGHT YOU WERE MY FRIEND!” shouted storm
“I didn't mean to, I just-” he said shaking
“NO! I DON'T WANT TO KNOW YOUR PATHETIC EXCUSE!” he shouted “and now your gonna pay...” Storm advanced towards Red, and bucked. Red took the buck full in the chest, and flew backwards. Off the near by cliff.
Strom glared angrily at the Red dot, falling into the dark cavern below. He stood there, just staring, until the fact hit him like a ton of bricks. He just killed his best friend. Anger for is friend was quickly extinguished, and sadness took over, but only for a few seconds. It was replaced by anger against himself.
“why...” he said.
Suddenly, storm felt himself being whisked off into another memory. He was very quietly sneaking down a corridor. It was dark, and he knew being caught here could be punishable by exile. This was the forbidden basement of the Castle of Canterlot. He walked silently down the corridor, and came across and door labelled 'Chemistry Storage'
“I've gotten this far” he thought to himself “no turning back now. I need to forget the sins of my past, but I can never be forgiven.”. He trotted in and looked around at the big wooden storage vats. He looked at the list in his hand. The combined results of these chemicals will create a strong potion. An amnesia potion.
“To think that Red was just the beginning... and now he's back but worse”
Storm collected the right chemicals. He mixed them, and took a look at the purple brew.
“I will forever be haunted...” he drunk the potion.
- - - - - -
Storm woke up. He could tell that he was in Dash's cloud house.
“Phew” he said “That must have been a dream...”
“Oh, thank Celestia your awake” said a very worried Rainbow Dash. He flew up and hugged him.
“wa?” he said “what happened?”
“you blacked out before we got inside. You were out for a good hour... I was terrified”
“my dream... It was real... I'm a monster” he said looking into the middle distance.
“what?” said Dash looking at him. Storm stood up. His face was blank. Expressionless.
He trotted out the door and looked into the sky. A storm was brewing, and he was going to be in the thick of it.
“Storm, what are you doing?” asked Dash. Storm leapt into the air, and rocketed away with a blast
“STORM!”
The Hidden City
Twilight Sparkle was in her library, studying maps. Apart from her letters to princess Celestia, she didn't have much to do except to look for this city Storm mentioned. Unfortunately, her results had been inconclusive.
“no... I've already checked that one... and that book was useless” she said to herself sorting though her books and maps of Equestria “hang on, what's this?” Twilight pulled out a old and dusty map from a old tattered book.
“a map of Equestria? Wow... this map's old... what? There's a city there that's not on the maps!” The city Twilight was looking at was in the middle of... well, nowhere!
Equestria was still a mostly unexplored area, there were still new lands and far away places and civilizations to find. On all of the maps up to date, that part of the map was labelled “nowhere” with a foot note saying how dangerous it was.
However, the old map hadn't changed. The area and the place surrounding it was clearly labelled and explored.
“Hmmm” Twilight thought “what could this mean? Was this the city Storm was talking about?”
Three loud knocks at the door snapped her out of her trance, and she became aware how dark it was. On her way to to the door, she briefly saw out side the weather, it was chucking it down! Thankfully, that sound spell she cast over her library meant she could study in peace.
Twilight opened the door to find Storm standing outside. He was soaked to the skin, with his mane and tail flat down. His mane had flopped to one side, and it covered his left emerald eye, with the rain, low light and his look, storm looked quite menacing, but what was creepiest of all was his slight smile when Twilight greeted him.
“oh! umm, hello Storm! Please do come in, you must be soaked!” she said
“thanks” he said simply and trotted in with his head down.
“So what brings you to the library today?” she asked
“I had another memory come back to me...” he said darkly, still keeping his smile “my past isn't exactly... a happy one”
“why, what happened Storm?” she asked worried
“I'd rather not say... Have you made any progress on the maps yet?” he said quietly
“I think so. Just here I think. Somepony did a good job on making us forget about it. All of the up to date maps say its in the middle of, I quote 'nowhere!'” she replied.
“I know” he said “in my past, I had a friend... called Red I think. He did something, but I can't remember what... but it made me angry. Furious, and I...I... I did something to him, and I think he came back... but with power. I think he's the one who covered up that city... and everypony in it...” Twilight looked grave and listened to every word.
“if this is the truth we've got to inform the princess!” she said with a hint of panic in her voice.
“no... I want to go there... don't tell the princess just yet. I need time.” he said still looking creepy.
“If your sure...” said Twilight
“Thanks for the help...I'm gonna go out for a bit now... I need to think” he said leaving
“are you crazy? It's chucking it down out there!” she said
“I'll be fine...” he said. As Storm exited, he turned his head and said “oh yea, if Dash comes looking for me, tell her... tell her I was never here. Do me this one promise and don't break it” Twilight nodded “good night Twilight Sparkle...” and Storm was gone.
Twilight went upstairs to her room. She quietly went past Spike and sat down at her desk. Even though it was late, she wasn't tiered. She thought about what to do, and decided she would right a letter to the princess, but not one of her usual letters.
She used magic on her pen, and it started to write down her thoughts...
Dear Princess Celestia
You Might be confused why I am sending this letter to you. Its not about my friendship report, it's about here in Ponyville. Don't worry, the town isn't in danger, its just about our newest arrival to the town
Rain Storm.
As I have told you in previous letters, he has Amnesia, and his memories have slowly been returning to him. Usually, I would tell you how well he has been doing, but this not a happy letter.
From what I've picked up, Storms past is a bad one. Really bad. He didn't want to explain to me about it, but I believe that something terrible happened to him in his childhood, and it's haunting him.
He's been acting stranger and stranger. Something deep and, I dare say dark and evil is troubling him.
I'm worried for im, princess. He is a very nice pony, but until now...
He made me promise to tell you not to act at the moment, but I feel I may have to break that promise if anything gets out of hand.
I will anxiously await your reply and further advice.
Your faithful Student, Twilight Sparkle.
Twilight Sighed, and rapped up the parchment into a neat scroll and put it on her
desk. As she went to her bed, she wondered about what else he had said.
“what did he mean when he said I shouldn't tell Rainbow Dash he was here?” she thought. “Ah well... I'm tired now. I'll sought it out in the morning” and with that, Twilight fell asleep.
- - - - - -
Dash was flying around fast. Storm had left into this bad weather, and today was not a good day for flying. She began to panic.
“What if something bad happened to him? What if he hit into a tree? Or bumped into a...a... Ursor Minor? Or a Major!?” she thought rapidly “no...no... calm down Dash. He probably flew of to get some air or something. I should just head back home. He'll be there in the morning. Yea. Everything will be OK...” Dash headed back home, and got into bed. She tried to fall asleep, but she couldn't.
Dash involuntary stayed awake out of anxiety, listening for that door to open. But it never happened that night, and she eventually fell into a troubled sleep...
The Memories that haunt me
Storm had been flying for a while now in no particular direction. He needed a place to think, a place where he could remember all that he did. After what felt like an eternity, storm flew past a mountain. He looked up through the rain clouds above him, and saw a light above him. Intrigued, started to fly up. Once he had flown past the cloud layer, it was quiet.
The mountain was tall, and was covered in snow. It looked like a white beacon surrounded by a wall of grey. He flew onto, and sat down.
It was cold, but it helped him focus. Storm closed his eyes.
“Why do these memories haunt me so much... I know I did bad things but that was ages ago. I guess my mind won't let go of what I did all that time back. But I should stop dwindling. I need to remember, no matter the cost” he thought, and let himself go. One by one, the memories and flashbacks came, and they hit his mind like a tone of bricks, yet he did not falter. He sat ridged, and let the cold air control his mind.
“I will remember, everything I did. No matter the cost. No matter the sins. I. Will. Remember...” and he stayed there.
- - - - - -
Dash woke in the morning wide awake. She flew out of bed and looked all over her house, and storm was nowhere to be seen.
“aw man, this is bad. Real bad.” she thought “Twilight! She could help!” and with that flew off in a dash to Twilights library.
At this time, Twilight had just got up, and made herself some coffee. She took a sip, and headed to the the window, and opened it. Twilight closed her eyes and shivered as the fresh morning air roll in. It was almost magical, until the mood got shattered by a loud crash downstairs.
“What could happen this early!?” she thought aloud shaking her head
“Dash!? What are you doing here at this time?” she said in disbelief
“Storm hasn't come back yet and I'm getting worried... Twilight! Quick, do something magical and nerdy which I don't understand but will get me to him now!” Dash said in one breath.
“ok,ok calm down dash. I'll teleport you to him, but calm down! You're worse than me when I've lost a check-list!” she shook her head
“Its true!” shouted Spike from upstairs and chuckled. Twilight just rolled her eyes.
“Get ready dash...” she said and focused her magic, and in a white flash, Rainbow was gone.
“Well” she said “that was quick”
- - - - - -
Dash re-appeared in front of a large mountain. She quickly looked around to see if she could see Storm, and to get a look at her surroundings. Dash figured that she was deep in the Everfree Forest.
“Where the Hay is Storm...” she said to no pony in particular, and looked up. Through the clouds, she saw a opening that showed the height of the mountain in front of her, and its majesty.
“Wait...” she said “there he is!” and Sped upwards.
As she approached the top of the mountain, it got colder and colder, and Dash started to shiver. When she got to the precipice of the mountain, she saw a lightly snow covered grey pegasus sitting up with his eyes closed.
“STORM!!!” she shouted out. He opened his eyes slowly and smiled at Dash
“hello” he said. Dash flew over to Storm and settled down next to him
“What do you think your doing!? Sitting up here in the freezing cold all night, with no way of keeping warm. You scared the hay out of me!” she shouted at him angrily, but he appeared to take no notice.
“I was thinking...” he replied slowly
“THINKING!?” she burst out “WHY YOU-” she said, but Dash was cut short.
“get away from me, Dash” he said firmly. Storm opened his eyes and turned to look at Dash.
“wait, what?” she said back
“I said get away from me”
“but...but... why?”
“When I stayed up here all night, I didn't thing about nothing, you know. I remembered. I remembered everything, and I'm not a good pony, Dash. I've done horrible terrible things in my life, and I don't deserve your friendship... I don't deserve any ponies friendship...” he said. Storm stood up, fully unfurled his wings, and jumped into the air.
“Wait. what, why, you, waa?” said Dash. He smiled.
“There's only one place I can go now, to fully remember, and to face somepony I
haven't seen in years”
“Were?” she asked. He chuckled.
“nowhere” and let himself fall of the top of the mountain, then turn in mid air into a bullet shaped and fired through the cloud barrier, leaving a trail of angrily zapping storm clouds after him.
“I gotta go to Twilight again. She'll know what to do” said Dash and went as fast as she could down back to Ponyville.
- - - - - -
Twilight had just settled down again, when Dash crashed through the door again.
“For Celestia's sake, can't a pony get some time to herself around here any more!?” she thought aloud. “Dash? What are you doing here again?”
Rainbow collapsed on the floor, and regained her breath. Afterwards, she told Twilight the story.
“Nowhere...Nowhere... what could he mean by Nowhere...Nowhere! That's it!” said Twilight.
“What is it?” said Dash
“When I was studying the maps earlier, there was a part of Equestria labelled Nowhere. I thought It was an area if Equestria unexplored, but with further data, it used to be a place, in fact, there used to be a city there. All of the up to date maps where labelled wrong. Me and storm were going to go there later, but he must have gone there now to finish his memories! We've got to stop him. There's something evil there and he's going to get himself hurt” she said
“Should we get the others?” asked Dash
“There's no time! Get close to me, now!” she said, and both ponies disappeared with a white flash.
- - - - - -
Rain Storm landed on the top of hill. The stood there with the wind blowing in his face. Storm waited for the fog to clear, and then he saw it.
“Peakcity...long time no see, I guess”
