Introduction (Third Person)

        “You did WHAT!?”

The man recoils hard away from his phone.

“So I take it I made the wrong call Mr Jefferson?” the man says, holding the phone back just in case.

“Of course you made the wrong call! You should have consulted me first, Hixon. Why did you make such a rash decision in such a short amount of time without even a proper investigation... or anything for that matter! All you did was make a decision on some videos with no audio, plus your own SONS statement! Christ, to think this happened just two days ago!” the man referred to as Mr. Jefferson yells in quite the impolite manner.

“I’m sorry I just... I suppose I couldn’t think straight knowing that he had harmed my son.” the man says, hanging his head in shame and putting the phone all the way back up to his ear.

“I guess I can’t blame you... But from what my daughter has told me this is quite serious and needs an investigation. For gods sake Mr. Hixon, my daughter claims your son forced her to kiss him, and then proceeded to hit her!”

“I think it’s quite possible that your daughter is just trying to get her friend bac-”

“Hixon, I’m going to tell you now, if your son did any harm to my daughter, I will completely ignore what her old roommate did knowing that he did it for my daughter.” he says in a simply, a slight undertone of aggression in his voice.

“I understand Jay.” Mr Hixon says, realizing the hostility in his higher ups tone.

“Now go get that investigation underway. Interview all of the students who were in their dorms at the time and try and see if any of them heard what the two of them were saying, ask people if they really did see my daughter running away, so on and so forth. Do you understand Mr. Hixon?”

“Yes I understand, but are you really going to go through all of this for your daughters sake?” Mr Hixon asks, matching the hostility in his boss’ underlying tone.

“No, I’m doing this because that boy, whom I consider a son, watched his parents die, and then you go and don’t even give him a fighting chance with this whole scenario!” Mr Hixon hears right before he hears the all too familiar click on the other end of the phone.

“Way to go Hixon. Way to anger the gentle giant...”

Mr. Jefferson sighs and slides the phone back into his pocket.. He stands up and opens the glass door to the deck and makes his way across it and onto the beach. He walks down to water and walks along the edge so his feet were hit by the gentle waves in small intervals of about three seconds.

He glances around the quaint private beach and sighs as he leans back and lets the warm sand relax him. He pulls out his phone reluctantly and navigates through his phone and simply stares at the contact he had pulls up until his screen locks.

“Alright, she is probably upset and all but I just have to tell her I can’t do anything while I’m out here on my business,” he looks around the sunny beach of Maui, one of the islands of Hawaii, “trip...”

“I guess I’ll cut my trip off just a little early...”

        “FUCK YOU, YOU LITTLE BITCH!”

Rainbow sets down her controller and mic and pulls her legs up to her chest and hides her face in her chest. Her phone, which was beside her, starts to vibrate on the carpet. She looks over and glares at the screen as her eyes readjust so she can see who it is, and she quickly snatches up the phone once she does realize the contact.

“Dad? Hello? What’s new with the investigation? Can he come back? Well? WELL!?” Rainbow says, shooting off questions like her life depended on it.

The person on the other end of the phone slowly eases the speaker to his ear and clears his throat.

“Well unlock the door and I’ll tell you.” he says.

She quickly bolts towards the door, unlocks it, and then proceeds to open it.

“Dad!” she says, jumping on the her father.

“Hi dear.” he says, almost falling backwards due to the sudden force of his daughter leaping on him.

“I thought you weren’t coming home until the end of the semester?” she says when she takes a step back from him.

        “Well you se-”

“And why are you in a Hawaiian shirt?” she also asks, suddenly interrupting him.

        “Well uh about that...”

“Actually I don’t want to know, just inform me what's happening!” she says, getting impatient when she wouldn’t let him speak.

“Will you relax my child?” he says, pushing her aside ever so gently and letting himself in.

“No I will not relax! It’s been two months since that idiot left without saying goodbye to any of us!” she says, getting angrier towards the beginning of her second statement.

“Oh fine. I just came back from Mr Hixon’s office and reviewed over the investigation.”

        “Huh?”

“He got some kids from video engineering to record the small interviews he had with the few people who had any recollection of the event, and I went through each one before I came here.”

“Oh...” she says, sitting down on her bed and grabbing a pillow to hug to her chest.

“Rainbow, I’m going to ask you one question, and I want you to tell me the truth; did Tom really hit you, or are you making it up to try and get the boy you like back?” Mr Jefferson says, sitting down next to his daughter and observing her carefully.

        She looks at him with dissapointed eyes and says very slowly;

“Tom did hit me, but it was after I hit him for kissing me.” she says flat out, and Mr Jefferson takes a few moments to examine her tone of voice and reaction time.

“Alright. Holiday break starts next week, right?” he says, standing up and walking to the door.

“Yea, but what does that have to do with any of this?”

“Have you had any contact with him since he left?”

“No. I think he got a new phone with a new number.” she says, obviously perplexed by the answer.

“What are your grades like?” he asks, observing her reaction to the question and how she responds.

“I’ve been keeping them up because dumbo would kill me if I let them drop again...” she says, smiling and looking at the ground as she rubs the back of her neck.

“Alright, it’s decided then. I’ll have a word with his god parents. I’ll be sending you off to retrieve him over break.” he says, closing the door behind him as he finishes.

Rainbow quickly darts to the door and opens it to chase her father down.

“Wait what!? You’re sending me alone?” she says, sounding both mystified and excited.

“Of course not. Why don't you go now and inform your friends that they can come if they want. I’ll arrange for it all, cost of travel and maybe even souvenirs, just go away you little pest.” he says, the last part in a joking tone that got Rainbow to crack a smile, and then proceeding to mess up her hair and giving her a hug.

"I love you dad!"

“You must really like this boy. I guess it’s a good thing that I already view him as a son, now he just has to seal the deal and actually... propose? Is that the right word?” he says when he finally releases her.

She blushes profusely and shoves him away as hard as she can, turning around and storming off.

        “Shut up dad!”
