Chapter 1: Prologue - Hook, Line, and SUCKER!

Prologue - Hook, Line, and SUCKER!

Dawn gave witness to two sisters working in a sitting room amidst a jumble of papers strewn about the surface of a massive oak table.  Ever since a transdimensional gate had appeared in the middle of the Everfree Forest and opened a pathway to Earth, a planet that they had almost forgotten about, Celestia and Luna had been busy doing research to see what steps should be taken in regards to this event.

"So, Tia.  What is your opinion on taking a diplomatic approach with Earth?  I know last time it did not work out quite so well, however it appears that they have come a long way in those two thousand years."  Luna queried of her sister, already having an opinion of her own but wanting to hear Celestia's first.

"Well, diplomatic relations seem rather pointless.  From what data we have gathered, a large majority would want to kill us out of fear.  Another group would love nothing more than to..."  She raised an eyebrow as she read off the sheet held in front of her, "Fuck us it seems.  And a small amount of them would simply pretend we do not exist, or are an abomination against nature."

"Overall, I would say that it would be a rather pointless endeavor, and any potential gains that may be achieved would be weighed down by all the political crap we would have to deal with.  No thanks, Luna.  I am not interested in that."  Celestia sighed slightly as she brought a teacup to her lips and drank in the wondrous draft.

"Indeed sister, I agree with you.  Even though these consoles and games have me most interested, I cannot imagine having to deal with humans for any period of time.  There would be...  Stains after the first week that no amount of heavy scrubbing would remove I would imagine."

Silence carried on as the two sisters continued to analyze their data that had been gathered, ensuring that their final assessment was indeed the correct one.  Some time later, Luna began laughing, a thought unbidden coming to her mind.

"Sister, why are you laughing?  Although idiotic, humans don't seem to warrant such mirth."

"Well, I was just thinking upon how we were unable to recover all of our hapless victim due to a certain unicorn that was adamant on holding onto...  Certain parts."  Luna snickered at this, the image of a mint green unicorn levitating dessicated hands in jars in front of her was just too much to take.  "There appears to be a small subculture that seems to revere us ponies, yet they hold no value to their own life.  So, here's my idea..."

Luna leaned over and whispered into her sister's ears, her voice unable to be understood by anyone else except Celestia.  The time flew by as Luna pitched her secret concept, and from the looks on the white alicorn's face, it seemed to be a good one.

Luna pulled back from her sister with a smirk as her sister was near to tears from laughter.  "Oh, that is delightful!  So, when do you intend to carry it out?"

"I shall make my first pitch tonight and see how it goes.  Now come, let us go get dinner, the time is late."  They quickly organized the piles of paper into one stack and made their way out the room.  Pausing as the exit, Celestia plucked a quill from nearby with her magic and added the last touches on a cover page and settled it down on top of the report.

ASSESSMENT OF HUMANS

MOSTLY HARMLESS

(HIGHLY ANNOYING)

That Night

With a sigh he walked up to the front porch and pulled out the house key to let himself in.  It had been yet another long and dreary day, filled with pointless hours of school followed by more time spent slaving at a minimum wage job.  Of course, everything he made simply went to fuel his father’s alcoholism, his mother long since having passed away from the world.

Walking inside, he noticed his father was already passed out on the living room sofa, beer bottle still in hand, the scene punctuated with poor lighting and white sound being thrown off the television set.  Quietly walking towards his room, he headed towards the last refuge his life afforded him, the computer.

Turning it on he pulled out a razor and twirled it around in his hand while waiting for the dinosaur that laughably passed as a computer came to life.  Looking down at the various lines on his arms, he thought about adding another, but decided against it, at least for tonight.  He pulled up the folder on screen labeled ‘MLP’ and shifted through the episodes, deciding which one to watch again.  It wasn’t a matter of which one he hadn’t seen yet, as each file in the folder had been opened by him more times than he could even recall.

In this hopeless and pointless world he existed in, he took refuge in a children’s show meant for little girls.  Was it creepy that it had gathered a large base of die hard followers in the eighteen to twenty five year old range?  Perhaps.  However, he was proud to be a ‘brony,’ the only thing in his life he could be proud of he often thought to himself.

He settled on simply clicking on a random episode and was greeted with the opening song rolling into his ears as the wonderful technicolor ponies danced across his vision.  He sat down and watched the screen as the night continued by.

“Hello.”  A voice startled him and broke his focus on the episode in front of him as a mysterious voice made itself known in the room.  Moving ever so slowly, he moved his head towards the source, and what he saw shocked him.

“Y-You’re Princess Luna!”  He stammered out in utter disbelief, as the Princess of the Night consumed his vision, silhouetted by the moonlight streaming in through the window.  She looked upon him with an impassive gaze that latched onto him.

“Indeed, I am.  How does this evening find you?”  She queried of the human, confusion running rampant through his features.  He rubbed at his eyes with his shirt sleeves, then continued to stare in amazement when she did not face from sight.  A quick pinch further confirmed her existence.

“G-Good?”  He hesitated a few moments as his brain caught up to what was indeed occurring at this very moment in front of him.  “Fantastic actually!  How did you get here, why are you here, oh my god this is amazing!”  He began to raise his voice as he started bombarding Luna with numerous questions.

Luna calmly waiting for the young male’s excitement to run its course, rolling her eyes rather blatantly on quite a few occassions.  After it seemed like he was finally finished, she decided it was a good time to speak up.  “Are you done now?  I can understand why you have so many questions, but those can wait for now.  I come to you with an offer.”

His eyes lit up and almost shone in the darkness at her words, his mind processing just some of the many unknown possibilities such a thing could offer.  With a slight nod, he waited for Luna to continue with her inquiry.

“My sister and I have been watching this world, looking for those we might bring over to ‘test the waters’, so to say.  We are entertaining the concept of perhaps allowing humans into Equestria on a small scale to see how our people would interact.  Since you know of me, you are probably aware of some other things.”  Luna paused, awaiting his reaction to this news.

Just as she had predicted, he was barely able to contain his excitement at this news, and she couldn’t help but form a small smirk at him.  “I would love to!  When can I go?  Where will I stay?”  His questions, yet again, continued on in droves as his mouth flapped for minutes.  He completely missed Luna raising one of her hooves to her forehead somewhere in the midst of it all.  He finally ceased his multitude of questions, allowing her a chance to speak once again.

“We are not quite prepared to bring anyone over just yet, but we will be ready within the month.  When we bring you over we’ll have you stay with some of our subjects to help acclimate you to our world and we will see how it goes.  I must be leaving soon, may I have your answer?”

“YES!  I mean, of course!  I would be honored to go to Equestria!”  He stammered out, heart pacing uncontrollably.  This was a dream come true for him, and even though he would have to wait a little bit longer, he looked forward to it with all his being.

“Very well, I shall let my sister know, now I must be off.  I have a few others to visit before this night is through.  I shall come for you in the dark, just be ready.”  As she spoke, she stepped back into the shadows and slowly began to fade out, her last words lingering in the air after she had vanished.

“I’m going to Equestria....  Wow.”  He muttered before sitting down upon his bed, replaying the evening’s conversation in his head, over and over.

Back In Canterlot

Celestia walked to her balcony, witnessing the moon finishing another journey through the night as she began to bring about the sun.  Her sister stepped out from the shadows in the corner of her room and joined her on the balcony.

“How did it go Luna?  I’m assuming exactly as planned?

She looked over at her sister with one of the largest grins she had ever managed before she spoke up.

        “We have a player...”
