The barn, The rainbow, and The plan

Later that night, a completely relaxed Chrysie returned to the library. She hung up her beautiful dress, and began to read a book titled, ‘Daring Doo’, when Spike and Twilight came up the stairs. “Oh that’s a great book! I own the entire collection!” Chrysie turned and smiled. They in turn smiled back. “So what are we doing tomorrow?” Twilight thought for a second, and then cheerily replied, “Were going to go see Fluttershy and Rainbow dash about that attitude of yours! You haven’t really taken to meeting new ponies all that well.” Chrysalis nodded in agreement. It was true, she had flipped out when the spa workers touched her wings. “That sounds like a good idea!” she smiled half-heartedly, trying to convince herself of what she just said. “Great! We’ll head out tomorrow then!” Said an enthused dragon. “You’ll like Fluttershy! She is a GREAT teacher!” “Alright Spike, we better give Chrysie her rest.” Spike nodded in agreement, and they both left the changeling alone for the night.

Chrysie awoke gently today; no interruptions to her sleep. Feeling well rested, she felt wonderful. She tiptoed down the stairs gleefully, a mischievous grin spreading across her face.  She noticed that Spike and Twilight were facing away, and hadn't noticed her yet. In fact, they were still eating. She began to think about their food levitating away from them, when her horn started to dimly glow. The glowing got brighter, and eventually their food rose out of their hands. The confused dragon and unicorn looked at their food in bewilderment, until Twilight noticed the familiar green glow. She turned her head, and saw a happy changeling in front of her. She couldn’t help but to smile at her achievement. “Hey, way to go Chrysie!” At the sudden praise, she returned the food to its owners. “You must have gained another friend in Rarity!” The sound of this news delighted Chrysalis to no end. She levitated a muffin, an apple, and a glass of water over to herself. She was starting to feel odd, like she cared for them in a sense.

They finally arrived at Fluttershy’s cabin, to find a note on the door. ‘Dear Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash and I have headed to Sweet Apple Acres. Please meet us there, that is, if you don’t mind.’ “Seriously? We snuck over here for nothing?” Spike piped in. “Oh well! We can walk over there! It’s only on the other side of Ponyville…” Twilight said concerned for Chrysalis. “No matter! We can just go around right?” “I’ve got a better idea…” Twilight’s horn glowed a dim purple, and then flashed as she teleported them.

Chrysie was used to this by now, so she just straightened her mane and dress out as neatly as she could. She then looked around; they were surrounded by apple trees in every direction. A barn could be seen in the distance; as well as a farm house. “That’s where we need to go!” Twilight pointed towards the barn. They started to trot at a slow, but cautious pace. They didn’t want either Rainbow Dash or Fluttershy to see them approach to early.

A minute of walking later, and they were at the doors to the bright red barn. “Wait here a moment.” Twilight said smartly. “Just give us some time to warm them up to the idea!” Spike replied reassuringly. “Ok, if you think it will help…” The changeling’s voice trailed off. She gave them both a smile, but from her eyes, they could see the sarcasm. They looked at each other, and stepped inside the barn

It felt like an eternity, but Chrysalis knew they would have to come out soon. She wanted desperately to listen in; but her nerves were on edge and didn’t want to hear them. Suddenly the barn doors burst open, and standing there was Twilight, Spike, a yellow-orange pony with a cowboy hat, a hay bale that shook out of terror, and a furious looking blue Pegasus with a rainbow colored mane. Before she could say anything, the Pegasus took flight directly towards Chrysalis. Twilight and Spike were about to say something, but She was already gone. Chrysalis had the sense to duck, and felt the rush of air above her head. The next thing she heard was the rustling of leaves, and the slamming of a Pegasus against an apple tree. She looked back to see the Pegasus ensnared by the branches of the tree. Chrysie shot a look of concern to Twilight, and then rushed over to the tree. “Rainbow!” The earth pony shouted in panic. She started to advance against the changeling, but she was already flying up into the tree. The insect-like buzzing of her wings lifted her over to Rainbow dash.

“Are you alright?” as she tried to move closer, Rainbow began to struggle harder. “Get away from me! I don’t need your help!” Chrysalis could see that Rainbow wasn't moving anytime soon. “Alright. Free yourself then.” The changeling smiled challengingly “Yeah? I could get out at anytime! Just you watch!” She struggled even harder. Chrysie landed delicately on a near by branch and watched as Rainbow tried to free herself. Rainbow Dash finally gave in, “Yeah, I do need some help.” She pouted and looked away. Chrysie giggled, and walked over to her. She pushed two branches aside. Rainbow took off, turned, and landed next to her friends. Chrysalis floated off the tree branch and landed on the ground as gracefully as she could. She fixed herself up, and walked over to the others.

The ponies ran to meet her halfway. “What in tarnation do you think you’re doing?!?” The pony demanded. “Applejack! Calm down! She didn't mean to harm her! Rainbow Dash just charged her!” Twilight spoke on behalf of Chrysie. “I don’t mean any harm! I've changed, honestly!” Applejack could judge the character of anypony. She could tell she was being sincere, but the still didn't trust Chrysalis. “Oh really? You mind explaining to us just what you’re doing here?” “Yeah! And where’d you got that dress from too!” Both ponies look upset, and Chrysie could tell that they were. “All right. You may want to take a seat though.”

As the former queen wrapped up her heart-melting tale, she looked at the ponies in front of her. Applejack had truly been touched. Rainbow dash looked like she needed more convincing. “Likely story, but how do we know it’s true?” accused Rainbow. “If I hadn’t changed, I wouldn’t be wearing this dress, and you would still be up in that tree.” Rainbow looked away embarrassed. “Oh yeah.” Fluttershy stepped out from behind the hay bale, “I can see why you would be nervous. That was a very hard decision you made.” She remarked in her usual shy voice. A voice suddenly arose from above them, “Wow! That was a REALLY interesting story! I don’t think ANYTHING can top that level of emotion!” They all looked up in unison. Hovering above them was a bright pink hot air balloon. A smiling Pinkie Pie looked down at them. “I was listening the WHOLE TIME!” she let out a giggle. “I under stand completely!” “You do?” A slightly confused Chrysie stared at the weird pony. “YUP! My name is Pinkie Pie! And now that you’re my friend, I must make you smile!”

Chrysie was confused. She didn’t know her too well, and didn’t do anything for her. “I’ll throw you a party tomorrow!” “Ok Pinkie, lets calm down.” Twilight remarked. “No, she may be right! A big ol’ party to introduce her to Ponyville!” Applejack commented smartly. Chrysie felt a thunderclap of fear ripple through her. “I, I don’t know about that one. Every time I try to introduce my self, everypony has a less than stellar reaction!” She could feel her muscles tense up, “What makes you think introducing me to an entire town at once will make things any better?” They had to think. It wasn’t a perfect plan, but it was all they had. They argued over everything. The details, the guests, the food, everything. “Enough! I had the idea, so I’ll plan the party!” Pinkie said in huff. “She’s right. Let her do the planning.” Chrysie gave a reassuring smile. “In the mean time the sun has set, so let’s all just go home!” On that, every pony agreed.

Back in the library, Chrysie felt a mixture of emotions running through her at once. She was nervous, but excited for the party. She hoped Pinkie Pie would do a good job, and that everypony would see she has changed. After all, she looked beautiful in her new dress. And Pinkie was good with parties, or so she heard. It will have to wait until tomorrow; she was too tired to think. Her head hit the pillow and she was gone into dreamland.
