The Former Queen...
She finally did it. She had taken over Canterlot, defeated princess Celestia, and her student. But something was wrong. The way Shining Armor and Princess Cadence flashed, and floated in the air… Before she could react, she was being thrown out of the castle, all her minions being pushed along beside her.
Queen Chrysalis awoke with a gasp. “That was three months ago.” She had to remind herself. “Why do I still dream about it?” She rose up, and left the crude little cave, and entered the forest. The midday sun was glaring in her eyes, and she had to squint. She tried to cover her green, serpentine eyes, but the holes in her arms made it impractical. The former queen stretched her insect like wings, and fixed her light blue mane. As she walked over to the puddle, she noticed it was dirty again. “Great. I was once the queen of the changelings, and now I have to drink from a hole in the ground.” She looked at the puddle in disgust, and thought about clean water. Her horn dimly glowed green for a second, then sparked and fizzled as its magic failed.
“What is this? Did I finally run out of love to feed off of?” The shocked queen had been moving around from forest to forest in search of food, love, to feed from. Without it, her magic was basically useless. “Impossible!” she concentrated on the murky puddle in rage, and it slowly turned clear. “Finally, some success!” as chrysalis drank the water, she couldn’t help but to wonder where she was. Her endless wandering had to have brought her closer to a source of love, right?
A sudden noise in the distance broke her concentration. Timber wolves. the same one that had hunted her for days. As she finished her drink, she started to walk through the thick forest. The terrain was very dark, even in the afternoon. It was like the trees were trying to blot out the sun. When Chrysalis reached a particularly dense patch, she tried to fly over, but found that she still didn’t have the energy. The former queen hadn't been able to fly for the past month. She instead turned to her left and kept walking.
The sun was setting now, and Chrysalis was exhausted. She would have to settle down for the night. As she began to search for a cave, she heard a quiet trickling noise. Similar to that of… water! Finally, some luck! She began to rush towards the joyous sound with glee. Then she heard it. The distinct sound of laughter; Coming from near the water. She slowed her approach optimistically, missing the sign saying “Welcome to the Everfree Forest!” she could hear it more distinctly now, it sounded like somepony was near the water; and they weren't alone. Chrysalis was near the water’s edge, but behind the bushes on the opposite side of the lake. She peeped out to see who was there. “MMPH!” she nearly screamed out of surprise at the sight of the ponies on the other side. Standing there, were the six ponies that were present during her jettison from Canterlot castle.
Chrysalis just stood there watching. She started to listen in to the conversation, “I don’t know Twilight, sure seems like an awful place to build a bridge…” “Well, you may be true, but Fluttershy says she needs it for her friends!” the former queen watched as they all left one by one, until only the purple one known as Twilight remained. She looked around and sat down. Her horn glowed a faint purple, and her bag opened up, revealing blueprints for said bridge. Chrysalis was shocked. She didn't know what to do; she could risk approaching her, but that might end in disaster. Or, she could just wait for her to leave, but then she would have to walk away. She let her curiosity get the better of her.
The Meeting
“Twilight!” Chrysalis was surprised by her own voice. It just suddenly came out on its own accord. “Who’s there?” she said cheerily as she stood up and looked around. “I don’t want any trouble… I just don’t know what else to do!” Chrysalis said in response. She could feel herself becoming tense. “Ok, just show yourself!” she said in her delightful tone, still searching for the voice. By now, Chrysalis was fairly nervous, and angry at herself. She was having second thoughts of turning and running, but her legs wouldn't respond. “We met once before, but on horrible circumstances… you see…” she hesitated a moment, then slowly stepped out into the moonlight. She could see the shock on Twilight’s face. “I just need some help!” the words flowed from her mouth, “I heard some laughter, and then I saw you and I didn't know what else to do! I’m just tired, and in need of some help.”
At the sight of her former foe, Queen Chrysalis, Twilight gasped suddenly. As she turned to run, Chrysalis shouted to wait, but it was too late, for twilight had already teleported a safe distance away. The shouts of Chrysalis could be heard off in the distance, “I! I…” but Twilight didn't care. She just needed to get to Ponyville. Twilight began to run, but was forced to slow down. The words replaying themselves in her head. Twilight slowed and stopped, and wondered if what she said had been true. She, regretfully, turned around and started to trot back.
“I! I…!” shouted Chrysalis. But it was too late, Twilight was already gone. Rage began to fill her, but a new emotion flooded her all at once, and she couldn't help but to break down. All the years of cruelty and blackened pride had suddenly given way to regret, and Chrysalis knelt down by the water’s edge. Her time in the forest was brutal alright, but being rejected like that finally broke her. She stared at her own reflection, and the former queen lashed out at the water. She suddenly felt sorry for everything she had done, and for herself. She just wanted to… “Hey…” her thoughts were interrupted by Twilight. She lifted her head towards the unicorn. “Are you alright?” The former queen looked down again, and sobbed. A sudden flash, and Twilight was right beside Chrysalis. “I heard what you said, and wasn't to sure whether to trust you. But now that I can see how you feel, I can tell you need some help.” She kneeled next to the changeling. “Are you all right?” Chrysalis stood up and shrugged the unicorn off. “ I've been sleeping in caves for the past three months, and wondering alone from forest to forest.”
“Sounds like you could use a hoof.” Twilight thought for a long moment, and finally stood up, “you can stay at the library for a while…” she said hesitantly. Chrysalis looked at her funny. "No offence, but that's a little too generous, a little too quickly. It's not that I don't trust you, it's just that I slightly hate you and your friends." At this point, Twilight's rage had begun to overflow. "Fine! Run back into the forest! See if I care!" Chrysalis was caught off guard by the retort, but rebounded just as quickly. "Fine!" She turn and ran into the Everfree forest. Twilight scowled fiercely. she turned to towards Ponyville, but was stopped by a noise in the bushes. Timber wolves. Timber wolves! They snarled at the unicorn, but ran in the direction of Chrysalis.
There it was again. The timber wolves. only they were a lot closer. "No matter. I'm close enough to town. They won't dare chase me here!" Chrysalis muttered ignorantly. A rustle in the bushes gave way to five timber wolves. "Fu..." Twilight appeared with a flash, directly in between the changeling and the wolves. "Run!" A blinding flash lit the night. The wolves pawed at their sore eyes. Chrysalis took off right behind Twilight.
She had been following Twilight for several minutes, both in complete silence. "Thanks..." Chrysalis said begrudgingly. "so... where are you taking me?" Twilight stopped walking, "we're already here!" Chrysalis looked around. They were on the edge of Ponyville. The changeling sighed. "Still want to help me?" Twilight nodded. "Fine." Chrysalis scowled. She didn't need her pity.
The doors to the library opened up, and Twilight and Chrysalis started walking up the stairs. Spike was waiting for them, “Hey Twilight! Where have you been?! I've been worried about you…” Spikes attention drifted from his friend to the giant changeling at her side. His eyes widened and he started to scream, but Twilight shoved her hoof in his mouth before he could. “Spike! It’s ok!” she released him, “HOW! Did she hypnotize you or something?!” the changeling stared him down. their eyes not that different. “Actually,” she began, “I can’t even shape shift…” she looked sheepishly at the baby dragon, and thought about taking his form, but nothing happened. Her twisted horn only sparkled. “Fine, but I still don’t trust you…” Spike said suspicious of the queen. He looked her in the eyes, then walked down the stairs.
“Sorry about that. He can be… difficult sometimes…” Twilight said nervously. “Anyways, the beds are just up here!” she pointed Chrysalis towards the spare bed, and retreated down the stairs. Chrysalis wasn't sure what to think. Twilight had just saved her and now given her a bed. "Well, it's better than a cave." She jumped under the covers, and instantly fell asleep.
First Day
Chrysalis awoke with a start. She groggily sat up and looked around. Neither Twilight or spike were to be seen. She got out of bed and fixed her hair. She walked down stairs, to find twilight reading a book. Twilight looked up, to see the changeling. “Good morning!” she said flatly. “Are you hungry at all? I think we got some muffins on the table!” Chrysalis looked at the muffins, and rushed to the table with a huge grin on her face. She looked at the muffins with a wolfish smile, and started working on a blueberry muffin. When she was finished, she ate another, and another. “Whoa, slow down! Your going to be sick!” said a concerned twilight. Chrysalis gulped down a mug of apple cider, and put it down on the table. “Thank you, but I haven’t eaten anything like this in a LONG time!” she exclaimed. “Being chased down in the forest and all…” “That reminds me, you've gotten quite dirty…” Twilight sheepishly pointed towards a door, “the bathroom is over there, if you want…” The former queen gasped in joy. Twilight wasn't sure how to take it, until Chrysalis’ face spread into a smile, and she ran into said bathroom, and slammed the door behind her.
She had never felt better in her life. The warm water soothed every tense muscle in her body; and she just wanted to sit there for eternity… Knock Knock Knock! “How’s everything in there? You ok Chrysalis?” “I’m fine.” she replied slightly annoyed. “By the way, since I'll be here a while, you can just call me Chrysie. My mother used to call me that.” “Um…ok?” Twilight sounded unsure. The newly dubbed Chrysie relaxed again. All the dirt was washed away by now, so she just got out of the tub and dried herself off. It was considerably hard, what with the holes in her legs, but she was used to it. She unlocked the door and stepped outside. Twilight was still reading that book of hers. “Oh hey, Chrysie; how are you feeling?” “Better! That bath helped!” “Glad to hear it!” Twilight closed the book. She walked over to the shelf and put it away neatly. “I hope you don’t mind, but I’ve been reading up the physiology of changelings, and I’ve found something interesting; your kind needs to feed off of love to gain your magic…” “Well I could have told you that…” Chrysie said sarcastically.
“Any ways, the books say, ‘changelings feed off of love to gain their power, but if they become too weak to even shape shift, they can resort to the power of friendship. They do not harm their friends, but allow the energy to flow through them instead.’ You know what this means?” Chrysalis stared blankly. "I all ready knew that. I just didn't believe it until now." She rolled her eyes. “Besides; that might be difficult, especially in my state. If you hadn’t already noticed, I'm not the most likable person in the world…” “That shouldn’t be a problem! We just need to… I don’t know… just give me some time to think! In the mean time, I sent Spike into the Everfree Forest to get some things for Zecora, but he hasn't come back yet. I'm starting to get worried! If you could do me a favor…” The changeling sighed. “I understand! You want Spike home safe and sound, right?” Chrysalis understood what this favor symbolized. It symbolized trust.
Chrysalis had a hard time sneaking out of Ponyville, but once she was in the Everfree, she could trot normally. Twilight sparkle just said he was in the forest. Real descriptive. She kept walking, being careful of her surroundings. After a long while, she heard some yelling that sounded like a baby dragon in trouble. The changeling ran in the direction of the yelling, and soon found Spike hanging up in a tree. Near by, were some figures she didn't recognize. They looked like other dragons, but older than Spike. As Chrysie got closer, she could understand them, “That’s for messing with our heist you little runt!” she saw a quick motion of an arm, and Spike grunted in response. Chrysalis knew she had to do something; but with her weakened powers, she wasn't to sure what. She ran behind some bushes and shouted.
“HEY! Leave him alone!” The former queen shouted in defiance. “Twilight…?” Spike muttered, only half awake. “Oh great, his pony friends have come to help him again! Let’s get them boys!” The teenage dragons turned to face the bushes. Chrysalis stepped out into the setting sun, spreading her wings and scowling furiously. Her glare pierced their souls as she said, “I am no pony.” At the sight of the horrible blackened creature in front of them, the dragons filled with fear, and ran in the opposite direction. “Are you alright Spike?” Chrysie was concerned for the young one. She lifted him gently off the tree branch, and placed him on her back.
They were half way to Ponyville, when Spike finally regained consciousness. “Unnh… What happened Twilight?” The Changeling simply turned her head towards the dragon, “Twilight was worried about you, so she sent me to find you.” The dragon lowered his head. “Oh.” Spike replied sheepishly. After several minutes of awkward silence, Spike finally broke the quiet night, “Thanks for saving me back there. So… why did you help? You could have just left me there. I could’ve handled myself!” Chrysalis turned and grinned. “Says the piñata…” This made them both laugh. “So you've really changed haven’t you?” Chrysalis explained everything that happened that day to Spike. “So you just need some friends! It was simple for Twilight!” “But It won't be so easy for me… no pony knew Twilight when she came to Ponyville. They all know me as a horrible monster! I mean, just look at me!” Spike hopped off Chrysie’s back. What he saw was truly frightening; a creature with holes in her thin legs, transparent, insect-like wings, and a crooked horn, all knarled up. She had serpentine, green eyes, and a long, light blue mane. A large pair of fangs completed the set, “All right, so you’re kind of scary, big whoop! I'm sure Rarity will be able to fix you up!” She looked flatly at him, “You really think so, Spike?” “I know so!”
As they reached the library, Twilight was pacing on the inside, with a worrisome look on her face. She looked up to see the former queen, and her favorite dragon. “Spike!” She ran over to Spike and gave him a big hug. “Aww Twilight, I’m fine! Thanks to Chrysie here, we made it home safely!” Twilight looked at her. All she saw was a friend. The former queen smiled a little. “It was nothing really…” She went on to explain the crazy night. When she was done, she closed her eyes for a split second. When she opened them, she was being hugged by both Twilight and Spike. A new feeling washed over her. She felt warm and fuzzy on the inside. She returned the hugs in kind, and was surprised with herself. She felt light enough to… “Um, Chrysie?” Twilight spoke, as she rose slowly off the ground. “I can fly again?!?” This came as a shock, as she couldn't fly for the past month! The changeling gave a cry of joy and slowly ascended to the bedroom; her wings buzzing fairly loudly. “Hey,” Said an embarrassed Spike, “Thanks again.” At this, Chrysalis just smiled. She then turned and went into her bed.
Rarity
Cock A Doodle Doo! Chrysie awoke to the noise of the rooster crowing outside her window. She sat up and looked outside. It looked to be about noon. She reluctantly rose and walked down the stairs. Greeted again by Twilight Sparkle, but Spike was there as well. They were both sitting at the table eating lunch. “Hey Chrysie! Care to join us?” “Yeah come on!” They both sounded happy to see her. She smiled groggily, and then walked over to them. She took her place at the small, round, table and began to work away at an apple. “So what are we doing today Twilight?” Spike inquired. “We’re going to help Chrysie to get some friends!” Her happy tone struck hard in the Changelings ears. She froze up, unsure what to say. “No offence, but how?” “I did say Rarity would help us out!” Spike said reassuringly. “We’ll go talk to her today. Until then I suggest you stay low in the library.”
Twilight and Spike left the library. Chrysalis was unsure what to do next. She started to look through the books in the library, but none of them held any of her interest for long. She started to read a book titled ‘101 basic recipes’, when a knocking came from the door. The sudden sound shocked the changeling, and ran to bar the door. “Delivery Twilight!” Chrysie had never heard this voice before. It was definitely a female voice. She tried to open the door, but the former queen held it tight. “Twilight, are you ok? Let me in!” “Sorry, I can't! I don’t feel good, I have…” The changeling thought for an instant, “throat… itis. Yeah, that’s it! Throat-itis!” she loosed a nervous chuckle, and then faked a cough. “Oh, ok! Well, I got the new book you ordered!” She slid it into the mail slot. “Say, Twilight, you have any muffins?” Chrysalis looked around. She saw one apple muffin left on the table. “No.” “Ok, thanks!” She could hear the hoof beats trot away. She let loose a sigh then slumped against the door.
A sudden flash lit the room. Chrysie tried to cover her eyes to no avail. When she looked again, Twilight was standing in the center of the room. “So we got Rarity to agree to helping you out!” “Thanks. I feel so much better.” Chrysie replied sarcastically . “Relax! She is the best fashion designer I know!” she said reassuringly, “Actually she’s the only fashion designer I know!” she said more to herself. Chrysalis gave her a 'I don't want/need your help' look. “Come on!” Twilight’s horn gave off a bright glow, and Chrysie closed her eyes. When she opened them, she was in a different room entirely. This new room was filled with fabrics, mannequins, and half sewn dresses. Twilight motioned for her to come into the next room, and she reluctantly followed. The room was basically the same, only now occupied with Spike, a purple maned and white unicorn, and one terrified cat.
“Hello, you must be Chrysie! My name is Rarity!” she was paying all her attention to an almost completed dress. Her horn softly glowed, and various sewing equipment were flying through the air. “So, Rarity, you've heard of me?” Chrysie asked. “Hhmn, not really, but Twilight and Spike have somewhat filled me in! Sounds like you really do need help!” she still wasn’t looking; Chrysie wondered if she knew who she really was. “…And one more stitch; and there! Finished! Now let me see…” She turned around to see the former changeling queen standing in the doorway. Rarity froze mid sentence and stood there, staring down Chrysalis. Her face starting to contort into a frightened smile. She was about to scream, but spike covered her mouth before she could. “Ssh! Rarity! It’ll be alright!” once she stopped squirming, spike let her go. “ARE YOU INSANE?! This is the most EVIL creature to ever surface in all of Equestria! And you want me to help IT?!?”
Chrysalis felt a sledge hammer of guilt ripple through her, all the regret from the past plans she had set in motion clouded her mind, and she stared at her blankly. Rarity saw the former queen’s disapproval at her words, and felt a sudden pang of regret. She tensed up at the fierceness of her own words. Spike looked angrily at Rarity, “You call her evil, but she saved my hide yesterday; and did Twilight a favor!” At these words, Rarity felt even worse. "So any ways, Twilight said you could help me." "No! Not for you!" Chrysalis straightened up. "I have been wandering through the forests for three months! Being chased by hydras, manticores, and timber wolves! I WAS ONCE A QUEEN!" Chrysalis started to tear up at the past memories. Those tears turned to sobs. “I'm sorry! I didn't know! I will do everything in my power to help you look fabulous!” At this, the changeling looked up, perplexed at the unicorn’s words.
Several long hours later, Chrysalis was wearing the loveliest dress she had ever seen. It was made of a fabric the same color of her mane, and matched the insect like pattern of her wings. The bottom of the dress even had holes purposely cut out of the fabric, to highlight her legs. A large emerald necklace and green dress trimming completed the look. It fitted her perfectly; in every way. It made her look beautiful. Beautiful in an odd sense that is also brought out her ferocity. “Wow, just, wow!” every pony in the room was stunned. “There darling! You look amazing!” Rarity looked expectantly at Chrysie. “I designed it to accent everything! It brings out the real you!” At this, Chrysie wasn’t to sure how to thank her. A joyous feeling rose inside her. She spread her wings, and noticed they had complete freedom of movement. Chrysie slowly rose above the ground. “Indeed, it is not half bad. But now I owe you...” Chrysalis muttered. “You can start by telling me your story of how you got here! I mean, all the hardships you endured! You must still be exhausted!” Chrysie landed on the ground and sat down.
Rarity was in tears. “That is just the most TOUCHING story I have ever heard!” She stopped to wipe away some tears, “I’m SO sorry for how I treated you earlier! You deserve much better!” “It’s alright…” Chrysie blushed and looked at the ground. “Oh, no; my darling! What you need is a trip to the spa!” At these unexpected words, the changeling straightened up. She gave Rarity an uncertain, but definitely nervous and scared smile. “I don’t know about that; I mean I would love to,” said the changeling reassuringly, “But I’m afraid I’ll have to decline.” “Oh that’s simply NONSENSE! We MUST get you there right away!” Chrysie didn’t know how to react. She immediately thought of terrified spa workers, and shrank away. “Come on Chrysie! This will be good for you!” Said Twilight, trying to convince the changeling to go.
A flash of light lit up the nearly empty spa. The pony at the desk covered her eyes. When she looked back, she saw Rarity, Twilight Sparkle, Spike the dragon, and… “Hello! How can I help you?” she looked perplexed at the creature in front of her. It wasn’t a pony, but it looked similar. She thought she looked frightening, but beautiful, and calming. At least it wasn't the bear Fluttershy brought in earlier. Rarity spoke up, “Two day passes please!” She handed over the usual amount and received the passes. Chrysie followed Rarity reluctantly into the spa.
The barn, The rainbow, and The plan
Later that night, a completely relaxed Chrysie returned to the library. She hung up her beautiful dress, and began to read a book titled, ‘Daring Doo’, when Spike and Twilight came up the stairs. “Oh that’s a great book! I own the entire collection!” Chrysie turned and smiled. They in turn smiled back. “So what are we doing tomorrow?” Twilight thought for a second, and then cheerily replied, “Were going to go see Fluttershy and Rainbow dash about that attitude of yours! You haven’t really taken to meeting new ponies all that well.” Chrysalis nodded in agreement. It was true, she had flipped out when the spa workers touched her wings. “That sounds like a good idea!” she smiled half-heartedly, trying to convince herself of what she just said. “Great! We’ll head out tomorrow then!” Said an enthused dragon. “You’ll like Fluttershy! She is a GREAT teacher!” “Alright Spike, we better give Chrysie her rest.” Spike nodded in agreement, and they both left the changeling alone for the night.
Chrysie awoke gently today; no interruptions to her sleep. Feeling well rested, she felt wonderful. She tiptoed down the stairs gleefully, a mischievous grin spreading across her face. She noticed that Spike and Twilight were facing away, and hadn't noticed her yet. In fact, they were still eating. She began to think about their food levitating away from them, when her horn started to dimly glow. The glowing got brighter, and eventually their food rose out of their hands. The confused dragon and unicorn looked at their food in bewilderment, until Twilight noticed the familiar green glow. She turned her head, and saw a happy changeling in front of her. She couldn’t help but to smile at her achievement. “Hey, way to go Chrysie!” At the sudden praise, she returned the food to its owners. “You must have gained another friend in Rarity!” The sound of this news delighted Chrysalis to no end. She levitated a muffin, an apple, and a glass of water over to herself. She was starting to feel odd, like she cared for them in a sense.
They finally arrived at Fluttershy’s cabin, to find a note on the door. ‘Dear Twilight Sparkle, Rainbow Dash and I have headed to Sweet Apple Acres. Please meet us there, that is, if you don’t mind.’ “Seriously? We snuck over here for nothing?” Spike piped in. “Oh well! We can walk over there! It’s only on the other side of Ponyville…” Twilight said concerned for Chrysalis. “No matter! We can just go around right?” “I’ve got a better idea…” Twilight’s horn glowed a dim purple, and then flashed as she teleported them.
Chrysie was used to this by now, so she just straightened her mane and dress out as neatly as she could. She then looked around; they were surrounded by apple trees in every direction. A barn could be seen in the distance; as well as a farm house. “That’s where we need to go!” Twilight pointed towards the barn. They started to trot at a slow, but cautious pace. They didn’t want either Rainbow Dash or Fluttershy to see them approach to early.
A minute of walking later, and they were at the doors to the bright red barn. “Wait here a moment.” Twilight said smartly. “Just give us some time to warm them up to the idea!” Spike replied reassuringly. “Ok, if you think it will help…” The changeling’s voice trailed off. She gave them both a smile, but from her eyes, they could see the sarcasm. They looked at each other, and stepped inside the barn
It felt like an eternity, but Chrysalis knew they would have to come out soon. She wanted desperately to listen in; but her nerves were on edge and didn’t want to hear them. Suddenly the barn doors burst open, and standing there was Twilight, Spike, a yellow-orange pony with a cowboy hat, a hay bale that shook out of terror, and a furious looking blue Pegasus with a rainbow colored mane. Before she could say anything, the Pegasus took flight directly towards Chrysalis. Twilight and Spike were about to say something, but She was already gone. Chrysalis had the sense to duck, and felt the rush of air above her head. The next thing she heard was the rustling of leaves, and the slamming of a Pegasus against an apple tree. She looked back to see the Pegasus ensnared by the branches of the tree. Chrysie shot a look of concern to Twilight, and then rushed over to the tree. “Rainbow!” The earth pony shouted in panic. She started to advance against the changeling, but she was already flying up into the tree. The insect-like buzzing of her wings lifted her over to Rainbow dash.
“Are you alright?” as she tried to move closer, Rainbow began to struggle harder. “Get away from me! I don’t need your help!” Chrysalis could see that Rainbow wasn't moving anytime soon. “Alright. Free yourself then.” The changeling smiled challengingly “Yeah? I could get out at anytime! Just you watch!” She struggled even harder. Chrysie landed delicately on a near by branch and watched as Rainbow tried to free herself. Rainbow Dash finally gave in, “Yeah, I do need some help.” She pouted and looked away. Chrysie giggled, and walked over to her. She pushed two branches aside. Rainbow took off, turned, and landed next to her friends. Chrysalis floated off the tree branch and landed on the ground as gracefully as she could. She fixed herself up, and walked over to the others.
The ponies ran to meet her halfway. “What in tarnation do you think you’re doing?!?” The pony demanded. “Applejack! Calm down! She didn't mean to harm her! Rainbow Dash just charged her!” Twilight spoke on behalf of Chrysie. “I don’t mean any harm! I've changed, honestly!” Applejack could judge the character of anypony. She could tell she was being sincere, but the still didn't trust Chrysalis. “Oh really? You mind explaining to us just what you’re doing here?” “Yeah! And where’d you got that dress from too!” Both ponies look upset, and Chrysie could tell that they were. “All right. You may want to take a seat though.”
As the former queen wrapped up her heart-melting tale, she looked at the ponies in front of her. Applejack had truly been touched. Rainbow dash looked like she needed more convincing. “Likely story, but how do we know it’s true?” accused Rainbow. “If I hadn’t changed, I wouldn’t be wearing this dress, and you would still be up in that tree.” Rainbow looked away embarrassed. “Oh yeah.” Fluttershy stepped out from behind the hay bale, “I can see why you would be nervous. That was a very hard decision you made.” She remarked in her usual shy voice. A voice suddenly arose from above them, “Wow! That was a REALLY interesting story! I don’t think ANYTHING can top that level of emotion!” They all looked up in unison. Hovering above them was a bright pink hot air balloon. A smiling Pinkie Pie looked down at them. “I was listening the WHOLE TIME!” she let out a giggle. “I under stand completely!” “You do?” A slightly confused Chrysie stared at the weird pony. “YUP! My name is Pinkie Pie! And now that you’re my friend, I must make you smile!”
Chrysie was confused. She didn’t know her too well, and didn’t do anything for her. “I’ll throw you a party tomorrow!” “Ok Pinkie, lets calm down.” Twilight remarked. “No, she may be right! A big ol’ party to introduce her to Ponyville!” Applejack commented smartly. Chrysie felt a thunderclap of fear ripple through her. “I, I don’t know about that one. Every time I try to introduce my self, everypony has a less than stellar reaction!” She could feel her muscles tense up, “What makes you think introducing me to an entire town at once will make things any better?” They had to think. It wasn’t a perfect plan, but it was all they had. They argued over everything. The details, the guests, the food, everything. “Enough! I had the idea, so I’ll plan the party!” Pinkie said in huff. “She’s right. Let her do the planning.” Chrysie gave a reassuring smile. “In the mean time the sun has set, so let’s all just go home!” On that, every pony agreed.
Back in the library, Chrysie felt a mixture of emotions running through her at once. She was nervous, but excited for the party. She hoped Pinkie Pie would do a good job, and that everypony would see she has changed. After all, she looked beautiful in her new dress. And Pinkie was good with parties, or so she heard. It will have to wait until tomorrow; she was too tired to think. Her head hit the pillow and she was gone into dreamland.
Party Time
Chrysie opened her eyes. A sense of happiness washed over her. Hopefully Pinkie Pie kept her promise. Chrysalis jumped out of bed, ready to start her day. She put on her dress, and tied her long mane behind her head. She walked down the stairs. Twilight and Spike weren't to be seen. “They must be planning the party!” the changeling said to herself. Chrysie giddily moved over to the table and had herself some breakfast. After said breakfast she moved to a mirror to look at herself. Each time she looked at herself, she saw an entirely new person, and today was no exception. The way she did her mane up just added onto Rarity’s dress. She had truly changed, in a way. She was still Chrysalis, but nicer. and she was proud of herself. For once in her life, she was truly happy.
Twilight burst through the door. “Oh good! You’re awake! Come on; the parties about to begin!” a smile spread across Chrysie’s face. She ran over to Twilight, who turned and ran out of the library. Chrysie followed Twilight through the unusually empty streets to the town center. She led the changeling around to the back of the stage, without any one seeing her. “This is it! This day is going to be… no.” her voice trailed off at the thought of the last time she said those words. “No matter! I'm just glad to be here! Thank you Twilight.” She gave Twilight Sparkle a big hug. Twilight hugged her back. “Fillies and Gentle colts!” The mare of Ponyville began, “We have gathered here today to welcome someone new into our town! This person isn’t a pony by chance,” the ponies in the crowd look at each other in confusion. “She, I have been told, has been through a lot of hard ships in the past few months…” Twilight turned to Chrysie. “I told her everything about you this time. She knows who you are.” Chrysie gave a small sigh of relief. At least one pony would like her… “And although she might look different from us, she shares the same heart.”
At these words, Chrysie’s soul was raised to new heights. “So without do, please give a BIG, welcoming hand to Chrysie!” Twilight motioned for her to go on stage. Chrysie was hesitant at first. She slowly walked out onto the stage. As Chrysie looked into the crowd, she could definitely see mixed reactions; most of them fear out of recognition. She tried to smile reassuringly, and she felt that the ponies were warming up to her. As she approached the podium, the mare stepped aside and let the changeling take the mic.
“Hello everypony!” She said warmly. “My name is, was, Chrysalis, but you all can just call me Chrysie. As you might be able to tell, I’m not exactly from around here. In fact I stumbled into Equestria by accident; you see…” As the changeling wove the tale of her life, the ponies of the crowd listened intently. As the day wore on, the ponies felt every word of the changelings speech pluck at their souls. At the start, many young ponies were scared, but they warmed up to her. Many of them weren’t, but eventually she melted everyone’s hearts at the story of the past couple of days. “And that is how I made it here. So what do you say? Can we let this party start?” The massive crowd of ponies almost unanimously shouted in agreement. The curtain behind Chrysie lifted, to reveal Vinyl Scratch and Pinkie Pie behind a turntable and mixer set; large speakers on either side of them. The speakers boomed to life, and started blaring music. Chrysie hopped off of the stage and into the crowd.
After she had her fill of dancing, she made her way over to the dessert bar. She picked up a muffin and examined it in the moonlight. This one was blueberry. Chrysie gulped it down in one bite. As she was sipping on some punch, she noticed a young colt approach her nervously. “Did you really do all those things?” He asked nervously. “Yes I did, and they weren’t easy.” “Wow! I thought you were scary at first, but now you’re the coolest person I know!” at these words, the former changeling smiled. Some thing clicked in her head. She learned a valuable lesson about friendship that night.
Letter to the Sun
After the party, Chrysie and all her friends went to Sugar Cube Corner for a drink. “That truly, was the perfect day!” Chrysie had the time of her life that night. No pony In Ponyville was afraid of her anymore. “So, did you learn anything about friendship?” Twilight asked. Chrysie gave her a confused look. “Of course...” she said slowly, unsure how to react to the question. “Do you mind writing a letter then? To Princess Celestia?” Chrysie thought about it. She had some bad times with the princess, but she was confident because all the ponies in Ponyville accepted her. “You know what? I don’t. Spike!” The dragon swiveled his head. “Take a letter please!” he pulled out some parchment and a quill.
“Dear Princess Celestia, I have learned a great deal about friendship over the last few Days. Making friends can be easy at times, but not if people already know you as a bad person. They might reject you at first because of there history with you, or how scary you look. But if you can just stick to it, and show them the real, or in my case, new you; then any pony can make a friend.” Chrysie thought for a long moment. “I pray you too can forgive me for my past actions. The Former changeling Queen, Chrysalis.” She nodded at spike, who sent the letter in a puff of smoke.
“Now who wants some more cake?” Every pony in the room raised their hoof. Chrysie walked over the counter and smiled, “Hi! I’d like to buy a chocolate cake!” “Sure! That will just take a couple of…” The sounds of a massive impact halted Mrs. Cake mid sentence. Chrysalis jumped out of shock. That sounded close! Like it was right outside the door… She turned to see Princess Celestia in the door way, pointing her horn at her; and she looked furious. “Queen Chrysalis, what do you have to say for yourself?” Chrysie stared at the Alicorn in disbelief. Celestia could see the shock in her eyes. “Well then, I hear by sentence you to into exile! You are banished henceforth from Equestria! I ask you again, what do you have to say?” Her harsh words hit home. Chrysalis felt all the regret and self loathing that she did before. “Alright. I’ll go!” she said smugly. “If you want a fight, you’ve certainly; wait, what?” “I said I’m sorry. You win. I’ll accept whatever punishment you throw upon me, just so long as my friends are free.” The changeling stood up straight, and stared into the sun goddesses eyes. She braced for whatever may come. Twilight and her friends stood there in disbelief.
“Well then!” Celestia’s horn glowed, and Chrysalis kept staring. “Apology accepted.” Chrysalis braced further, then stopped and gave her a confused look. “What?” “You really have changed, and any pony can see that!” Celestia levitated a slice of cake to the Changeling. “I just wanted to see it myself!” She smiled warmly, “After I read the letter, I had to see if you were telling the truth. You’re welcome to stay in Ponyville, if you want…” Chrysie turned to her friends; a confused look on her face. "Alright!" She made up her mind. This truly was the perfect day.
