Chapter 1: Call to Arms

“Come on, you just get on the ice and try to move forward.” A white mare with a beautiful black mane and wings named Night Aura said with a laugh. “It's not too hard.”

“Easy for you to say.” A white stallion with a long, spiky, black mane and wings named Fyrin Toxix said, struggling to get onto the ice with his skates one. “You know what you're doing. Can't we just go 'booting' instead?” He said cracking a smile.

“Ha ha. Very funny.” Night said trying to help him up.

“Skating is easy. I just don't do it that often.” Fyrin said as he finally got up.

Fyrin moved forward slowly as he got the hang of it.

“I told you, it's not too hard.” Night said with a smile.

“I knew it wasn't hard. I was just trying to fool you.” Fyrin said starting to pick up speed by going around the ice rink.

“Mhmm. Sure.” Night said in disbelief, starting to pick up speed with him.

As they picked up speed they started to get a little too fast.

“We're going to collide if we don't be caref-AAAAH!” Fyrin couldn't finish his sentence before they hit a turn and he ran into Night, plunging them down the side into the snow surrounding the ice rink.

Night ended up on top of Fyrin after rolling down a slant that had been next to the ice rink.

“Hi.” Fyrin said awkwardly as he was staring face to face with Night.

“Hello there.” She replied with a laugh.

“Has anybody ever told you that you have beautiful eyes?” Fyrin said.

“You just did. So I guess that's a yes.” Night said with delight.

“No, I don't want or need that many cupcakes, Pinkie.” Fyrin Toxix said, holding the phone to his muzzle. “No, I don't want a cake either.” He didn't notice the door opened behind him.

“Colonel Toxix?” Said the stallion who opened the door.

“Hold on, I'll call you back, Pinkie.” Fyrin said as he put down the phone. “What could it possibly be this late in the night?” Fyrin asked curiously.

“It's a letter from Princess Luna. She said it was urgent.” The stallion said handing him the letter. After handing Fyrin the letter he walked out of the house, shutting the door behind him.

Fyrin looked at the letter and opened it. It read;

Dear Fyrin Toxix.

As of now you have been reactivated in Equestrian Army Corps. A war has just been declared between us and the dictators from the eastern lands of Equestria. You will have until tomorrow morning to say your goodbyes.

I apologize that this is at such short notice. But we must act quickly. We cannot waste time.

As you are a Colonel, you will be on the battlefield with your men. You will be the commander of the 1st Infantry Division.

I trust you know what you are doing. The have served your country well in the past. I trust that you will do the very same this time.

You will be briefed when you make it to the military outpost in Manehattan.

Best of luck to you and your division.

Regards,

Princess Luna

Fyrin sat down at his dining room table and set the letter down.

What about Night? He thought to himself. She's not going to like this at all.

*****

Fyrin woke up extra early that morning to make sure he could say goodbye to Night. He had to meet at the bus station at about 7:00 AM.

He had finished packing and got into uniform. Then he started walking over to Nights house. Looking around at the trees and the hills. Sunrise was especially beautiful in Ponyville. He never got to see it often. He never was an early morning riser.

When Fyrin arrived at Night's house he braced himself. He knew it was going to be hard saying goodbye not knowing if he'll ever say hello to her again. The very thought of it almost made him want to cry. Fyrin was always a soldier. But his emotions always get the best of him.

Fyrin knocked on the front door of Night's house. Preparing for the worst.

“Fyrin?” Night groaned as if she'd just woken up. “Why are you up so early? Ugh, nevermind that, just come in. I'll make some hot chocolate.” She said as she walked back into the house.

Fyrin walked in and sat at the kitchen table as Night started making hot chocolate for the two of them.

“So, what are you doing up this early?” Night asked with a yawn.

“Well... uh...” Fyrin hesitated. “No reason?”

“No reason?” Night stopped what she was doing and looked at him. “I know you, Fyrin. You don't simply get up abnormally early and come to my house for 'no reason'. It's not like you. At all.”

“Well...” Fyrin sighed. “I'm being deployed. A war's started and I'm being reactivated.”

“What?” Night said in disbelief. “They can't deploy you now! What about me?” Night said starting to cry.

“I'm sorry.” Fyrin said trying to soothe her. “But we can't do anything about it. I'm have to be at the bus station by 7:00 AM today.”

Fyrin looked up at the clock Night had on the wall. It was 6:48 AM. It took 10 minutes to walk to the bus station. Fyrin closed his eyes in regret.

“I have to go now.” Fyrin said, his voice sounding a little hoarse from trying hard not to cry.

Fyrin got up, walked to the door, and picked up his bag. Night walked to the door as well.

“I will get home safe I promise.” Fyrin said.

Fyrin kissed her.

“I love you, Night.” Fyrin said.

I love you, Fyrin.” Night replied.

With that Fyrin opened the door and exitted the house for what he thought would be the last time. He wiped a tear away from his face as he walked towards to bus station. Looking around at the trees and the hills. Hoping that he would one day see them again.

Fyrin arrived at the bus station trying to forget the pain he experienced by saying goodbye to Night Aura.

He searched the crowd of ponies looking to find a familiar face.

“Well if it isn't Colonel Toxix?” A familiar voice sounded.

Fyrin imediatelly knew who it was. “Not getting into any trouble now, are we Captain Soren?” Fyrin said while turning around to see his old friend. “It's good to see you again, Soren.”

“And you. How's life been for you since you became inactive?” Soren said.

“Life never was as adventurous as it was while I was in action.” Fyrin said with a chuckle. “Although, I did find this one mare.”

“Whoa. Hold up. You got yourself a marefriend?” Soren said pretending to be amazed.

“Yep, she's amazing. By the way, what division were you assigned to?” Fyrin asked curiously.

“Ah, the 1st Infantry Division. And commanding officer of the 2nd platoon. You?” Soren replied.

“Well, I'm commanding officer of the 1st Infantry Division. Don't worry. I'll take good care of you.” Fyrin said with a laugh.

Chapter 2: Game plan

Chapter 2: Game Plan

The bus ride was long to Fyrin. He spent most of the time thinking. Thinking was probably the thing he liked to do most. It passes the time and gives one a good view on things because they take time to think about it.

When they arrived Fyrin was immediately called to come to a briefing. The briefing was being held by General Twilight Sparkle. A very important member of the Equestrian Army. And one of the most respected.

“Welcome, commanders.” Twilight began “At the end of this week we will be launching a massive invasion on Omahay beach. We will launch from Seasaddle Bay by boat and we'll land on their beaches. From there we will push the Germanes back through Normanedy and back to their land. We must eliminate the Axis threat and restore peace to the people of Europe.

Two divisions of paratroopers will drop into Normanedy so they may help infiltrate and provide a flank.

We are calling this invasion "D-Day".

Prepare your divisions and prepare yourselves.

Good luck to you all.”

After the briefing had finished, Fyrin briefed his platoon commanders as to what they will be doing. And the platoon commanders to their own platoons.

Fyrin got up out of the tent he had been resting in and sat by the campfire light. As it had been night outside.

Fyrin's thoughts raced.

Is Night okay without me? Will she find someone else? What kind of hell will we see on D-Day? What would happen if I died?

Fyrin's thoughts were interrupted by a voice.

“Colonel Toxix.”

Fyrin turned around to see Twilight Sparkle pacing toward him.

He immediately stood straight up and gave her a salute. She saluted back. “At ease.” She said.

“I have a job for you.” Twilight Sparkle said.

“Aye, ma'am, what is it?” Fyrin asked.

“I want your division to be the first to land on Axis soil on D-Day.” Twilight Sparkle said.

“May I ask why, ma'am?” Fyrin asked.

“You are the highest ranked officer that will be on the battlefield fighting with the men. A commanding officer should but the first to step onto the land and the last to step off.” Twilight Sparkle replied.

“Aye, ma'am. And I will do just that.” Fyrin said.

“Very good.” Twilight Sparkle said pacing off back to her tent.

She has a point. Fyrin thought to himself. By being the first to engage in combat and by being in the front line I increase moral.

I just hope that gained moral doesn't get swallowed by the troops seeing the death of their fellow soldiers.
