One to Call My Own
Chapter 1: One To Call My Own
One To Call My Own
By: DJ BRON3
This story has been inspired by My Little Dashie. I liked that story so much that I decided to make a reverse role of it and send the human to equestria instead of the pony to the real world. This will be a lot shorter than a lot of my other fics. Please don’t send me comments on copywriting, everything is my own. This is the first time I have ever done a fic like this. I hope you will like it as much as I do.

A time comes in everyone’s lives when they want to get something they deserve. Some people get it, but I am one of those people who did not. All my life I have wanted a mother, I wanted to feel that warm feeling of a mother hugging her child, but I never got that. My mother died a year after I was born from cancer. My father took care of me until I was grown up enough to go live on my own then he disappeared; I never knew where he went to. I am 20 years old now and live in a crummy neighborhood full of bums, dealers, and snobs. I have been living here since I was 18. The neighborhood is a wreck; houses falling apart from disuse, buildings were falling apart at the foundations, fights breaking out between the gangs that hang around. I paid no attention to this, I came to accept it. I have no friends to be around me, and no family either. I had nobody to protect me or to help me when I needed it most.
I live in a rut. I work at a shipping factory down the road. My days consist of me getting up and getting ready for work, working an 8-10 hour shift, and then coming home just to fall asleep and start the vicious cycle over again. There is one thing that makes it a little easier on me though. I do not have to work on the weekends, so every Saturday I watch My Little Ponies on the television. Seeing the simple lives that they live make me wish that I could live with them instead of being here, alone. I rarely laugh, nothing around me is funny enough to, but when I see the group of ponies going on crazy adventures, or Pinky Pie saying something completely random, I can’t help but laugh. Sometimes I think to myself that this TV show is the only thing keeping me going.
Today is not going well. While at work the ceiling started to chip and that is making the boss angrier than usual. He said be careful walking underneath the crack. As the day progressed everyone slowly forgot the crack in the ceiling. I walked over to get a box that needed to go to processing. I picked it up and started to walk towards the large room on the other end of the factory where all the boxes got processed. I walked underneath the crack in the ceiling and heard it.
CRACK!!!
I dropped the box and looked up. A small section of ceiling had broken off and was falling towards me fast. I couldn’t get out of the way of the debris if I tried. I just closed my eyes and waited for the inevitable. The piece of roof hit me square on my head. I fell on the ground and lied there, looking up at the ceiling. Then I blacked out.
Everyone in the factory heard the crack and rushed over to see. When they saw their co-worker lying on the ground, blood starting to pool around his head, they called 911. The ambulance arrived shortly later and took the co-worker to the hospital.

Rainbow Dash:
It was a warm, sunny day in Ponyville. Everypony was enjoying the nice weather. Rainbow Dash was practicing aerial tricks high in the air. She too was enjoying the nice weather. She slowed down and flew to a low flying cloud and sat down on it. “It’s so much more relaxing to practice in such nice weather” she said to herself. A few moments later she hopped off her cloud and flew down to the ground. She landed and tucked her wings to her sides. “I think I’ll take a walk to refresh myself before I start up again” She said as she started to walk down a trail which led to the forest.
As Rainbow Dash walked through the trees, she started to feel refreshed. The light breeze blowing through her rainbow colored mane. Rainbow Dash was happy. Just then she heard a small rustling coming from behind the tree she was standing next to. She was curious to see what was making it. She walked halfway around the tree and saw a very young, maybe 4 year old dark blue pegasus filly poking a small hoof at some leaves. He had a very scruffy yellow and blue mane that sort of resembled hers from when she was little. He looked up and saw her; he backed up a little then sat down, still staring up at her. “Hi’ little guy, what are you doing out here all by yourself?” Rainbow Dash said in a soft soothing tone. The small filly cocked his head to one side, looking puzzled. “Oh, you must not be able to even talk yet” she said remembering that she was dealing with a young child. “Are you lost?” Rainbow asked the small filly. The small pony shook his head. “Well, we can’t just leave you out here, come with me I’ll get you somewhere safe” Rainbow Dash said as she closed the distance between her and the small pegasus filly. He looked up at her wide eyed and started to struggle when she picked him up, his little wings beating furiously in an attempt to get away. “Now I won’t hurt you, I just want to take you somewhere where you’ll be a little more comfortable” Rainbow Dash said as she put the small pony on her back. The filly stopped fidgeting and settled down, resting his small head on Rainbow Dash’s shoulder and quickly fell asleep. Rainbow Dash looked back and smiled. She would take care of this little filly until his mother and father came to get him.
She walked back to her home with the filly still asleep on her back. She opened her wings gently, so she wouldn’t wake him. She flew up to door and opened it and went inside. Since he is a pegasus he will be able to be on clouds, Rainbow Dash thought with relief. She carefully took the small pegasus off her back and set him down on a small couch. He woke up shortly after and looked at Rainbow Dash. “This will be where you stay for a while, until we get this figured out” Rainbow Dash said smiling softly. She already loved him. From the moment when she saw him in the forest she did. The filly looked up at her and smiled, clearly happy about the decision. Rainbow Dash walked over to another couch on the other end of the room and sat down on it. Before long she was asleep.
Rainbow Dash woke up a few hours later. She looked over to the other couch and found it empty. She felt something warm moving slightly on her side. She looked over and saw the filly curled up in her tail sleeping. Her heart welled up with happiness. She smiled down at the sleeping filly. “I, will take care of you” She whispered to him. She was starting to hope that nopony came to get him now. She already loved him like he was her son. She wanted this moment to last forever.
The days turned to months as no word was heard about a missing filly or anything on the subject. Rainbow Dash had grown accustomed to having the little filly around now. She had decided that since he did not have a birthday, they would celebrate one on the day that she found him.
Over the time that the little pony has been with her, Rainbow Dash has been trying to teach her to speak. She would try to get him to say small words, so that they could start communicating. But this was to no avail he would just look at her with a puzzled look on his face. He will learn eventually, Rainbow thought to herself.
It has been one year since Rainbow Dash found the filly. She had ran to Sugar Cube Corner and got a small cake for him for his birthday. She set it on the table the filly looked at it in wonder. “Go on, it’s your birthday” Rainbow Dash said when he looked at her. He looked back at the cake and then grabbed a small chunk with his hoof. He put it in his mouth and smiled. He grabbed another piece and looked back at Rainbow Dash. He jumped off the chair he was on and walked over to her and held out the piece of cake to Rainbow Dash. She smiled and took the piece. He watched her as she put it in her mouth and ate it. The little filly then grabbed Rainbow’s hoof and brought her over to the table. “This is your birthday, you eat it” she said to him sweetly. He shook his head and pointed to the cake. “Are you sure?” Rainbow Dash asked. The filly nodded. They then both took a piece from the cake and started eating it together.
The day passed by and it got late. Rainbow Dash was sitting on the couch with the little pony. He was curled up next to her, sleeping. She looked down at him “I wish you had a name” she said softly. She quietly got up, so she would not wake him. She picked him up gently and set him on her back. She began walking to the bedroom she had made for him. She walked in and set him down in his bed and tucked him in. He woke up and looked at her.
“I love you, mommy” he said softly, like the coo of a dove.
Rainbow was taken aback. She was waiting for him to say his first word for a while now; but never did she expect to hear him say that. Her heart was overflowing with love for the small filly.
“I-I love you too” she replied, meaning every word.
The filly gave a small yawn and smiled at her. “Go to sleep, you need the rest” Rainbow Dash said softly. He turned his head and quickly fell back asleep. Rainbow Dash walked over to the door and looked back at the small pony. “I love you too, son” she said as she walked out the door and shut it until only a crack was left. She walked down the hall to her room and sat on her bed.
She thought about what she just heard from the little filly. She loved him now, like she was her son, no he was her son now. She was watching him grow up right in front of her own eyes. He was her son, and she didn’t want it any other way. The thoughts of him being taken away from him melted away and were pushed into the furthest parts of her mind. He was her little filly now. She lay down then and fell asleep.
The next day after breakfast Rainbow Dash called the little filly out to the front porch. “Ok, hop on my back, we are going to go to the ground so we can practice” Rainbow said to him. His eyes brightened and he immediately climbed on her back. She flew off away from her house and to a clearing on the ground not far off. For the past few days she had been taking him down to the clearing and teaching him how to fly. He can get off the ground but he can’t stay in the air. There were many bumps and bruises obtained trying to reach this goal.
They landed and the little pegasus hopped off Rainbow’s back. “Ok, go on” she said as she watched him. He spread his wings and flapped them, eager for today to be the day that he would fly. He jumped up into the air and flapped his wings, trying to stay in the air. He waited for the crash of him hitting the ground, but it never came. He was still in the air! The little filly looked at Rainbow Dash who gave him a wide smile “you did it!” The little pegasus then proceeded to start flying around the clearing, slow at first, but then gaining speed. Rainbow Dash’s heart was filling with pure joy at how much her little filly had grown over the two years he’s been with her. She took flight and went up into the air to meet him. He was smiling brightly, his goal of finally being able to fly achieved. He and Rainbow Dash continued to fly around the clearing together for another hour before calling it quits and flying back home.
Only two days have passed and the little pegasus had gotten his cutie mark, a cloud with a hole going through it. He had gotten it by flying so fast through the clouds that he didn’t even alter their structure, almost like he phased through them. Rainbow dash knew that he liked going fast and decided to get them both tickets to see the Wonderbolts as an early birthday present.
-----
Seven years have passed since the mysterious filly was taken in by Rainbow Dash. He was full grown now; just a little shorter than Rainbow Dash. His mane looked the same as it did when he was a filly, but he didn’t care. Rainbow dash was now accustomed to him calling her mom now. And a few years back she had started to call him son.
Rainbow Dash has almost completely forgot the possibility of his parents coming to get him by now. Every once and a while she would get a small thought of it, but it was immediately pushed away back into her mind. She did not want to think of that ever happening to them. They were a family now and it will always stay that way.
“Mom, can I talk to you” the blue pony asked.
“Sure, what do you want to talk about?” Rainbow Dash answered.
“I have been having these weird dreams lately, something about them seems familiar to me but I can’t seem to place it” he said to Rainbow.
“Well, what are those dreams about?” Rainbow asked him.
“That’s the problem, I don’t know, there are a bunch of two legged things around and I’m one of them” He said, hoping that she would give him an explanation.
Rainbow Dash looked at him with a puzzled look on her face “I don’t know what to make of that, it seems odd though that you were one of the two legged things though” Rainbow Dash finally said looking soothingly into her sons eyes.
“Ok, it’s probably nothing anyways” he said.
The days turned into weeks, and the dreams continued to occur every night. Each on was different too, it was like a story on some other beings life was being played through his head every night. He had started to think that the other being was him in another life, one that was far worse than the one he was living in now. The two legged creature lost his mother when he was very young and his father disappeared after he was old enough to take care of himself. The pegasus hoped that this was just some weird dream that he was having, but deep in the back of his mind he knew something about the creature was familiar to him.
Rainbow Dash watched as the reoccurring dream took its toll on her son. She wished she could do something to help him, but you can’t get rid of dreams. She just comforted him whenever he needed it and said that she would always be there for him.

KNOCK, KNOCK, KNOCK!
Rainbow Dash was awoken to something knocking at her door. She was immediately wide awake, thinking of all of the possibilities of who it could be, her mind coming back to the thought of it being her sons parents more than once. She walked down the hall and looked in his room; he was still asleep in his bed. “Good” Rainbow Dash said as she walked to the front door. She opened the door and was greeted by Princess Celestia and two royal guards. She looked at them with a mixture of confusion and fear for why the princess was here in the dead of night.
“Hello Rainbow Dash, may I come in?” Princess Celestia asked calmly.
Rainbow Dash opened the door to let her in. Rainbow Dash knew why she was here; she had come to take the pony that she had cared for the past seven years away from her and back to his real parents.“I know why you’re here” Rainbow Dash said to Celestia, sadness creeping into her voice.
“Hmm, you do?” Celestia replied, bewildered.
“Yes, you’re here for the filly I found seven years ago, right?” Rainbow said.
Celestia was completely shocked “yes, how did you know?”
“I had always kept in the back of my mind the thought that somepony would come and get him and take him back to where he belongs” Rainbow said looking away, trying to fight back tears.
“Is he here?” Celestia asked.
“Yes, I’ll go wake him up and get him” Rainbow Dash said, sadness now turning into complete heartbreak. She walked down the hall and into his room. She went over to the side of his bed and shook him gently. “Wake up and come with me” Rainbow Dash said to the now frightened pony, who was wondering what was going on.The two of them walked back down into the room with Celestia. The pony looked up at her, bewildered and frightened by her.
“Hello, do you know where you are from?” Celestia asked the pony.
“No, I was found by mom in the forest, why?” the pony said, all fear turning into curiosity.
Celestia was taken aback “you think she is your mother?”
“No, I know she is my mother” He said back to her sharply.
Celestia took a minute to take this all in. She looked at the blue pegasus and then to Rainbow Dash. “Has anything odd been going on lately?” she asked the pony.
No, other than me having some weird dreams” the pony said curtly.
“Do you know what they are about?” Princess Celestia asked.
“No, they just seem familiar to me somehow, like I lived them before” he said looking at his hoofs.
“It’s because you did; you are not from here, you never were” Celestia said to the pony.
“What are you talking about?” he asked.
“You are a twenty year old human who grew up with no mother, and a father that left you. You were working at your job when a piece of roofing hit you on your head and put you in a coma. You are just here because your mind wanted you to be” Celestia said looking sadly to the pony, which was now starting to cry.
“So that is what all of those dreams were about; me remembering parts of my life in the real world” He said looking up at Celestia, tears running down his cheeks.
“I have come here to send you back to your world, you are ready to come out of your coma” Celestia said to him.
“But, I don’t want to go back this is my home now, I have a family here. You can’t just take that away from me” the pegasus said through sobs.
“But you don’t belong here, you belong in your world with your kind” Celestia said looking down at him.
The blue pony looked over at Rainbow Dash “Please don’t let them take me away, I want to stay here with you.”
Rainbow Dash walked over to him. “I love you, I have always loved you, and I want you to stay here as much as you want to, but you need to go back to your kind.”
“But…”
“No buts, I have cherished every moment I spent with you, I consider you the son that I never had. I want you to go back, but I want you to never forget that I loved you, for even after your gone I will still love you, you are a part of me now, and you just remember that”
“I love you mom, I’ll never forget the love you gave to me, I will cherish it always” He said looking up at her.
She looked down at him “I love you too, and I always will.”
Rainbow Dash hugged her the pony, no her child, for even after he leaves she will always still think of him as the little filly she took care of for all those years.
They sat there and hugged for a few moments longer.
“Ok, I’m ready to go” he said finally.
Celestia’s horn started to glow brightly. She walked over to where he was standing and bent her head till the horn touched his forehead. A bright flash of light emanated out of the horn and when it died down he was gone.
Celestia then left Rainbow Dash alone.
“I will always love you my little filly.” Rainbow Dash said as she sat in her now empty house.
-----
There comes a time when all good things come to an end. Mine was just now. I woke up in a hospital bed and looked around. I was alone as always. I sat there and smiled something I have not done in a long time. For I remember everything that happened while I was out. I remembered being picked up by Rainbow Dash and taken into her home; her caring for me as a mother would, her being there with me while I grow up for the second time. I remember it all. I moved my hand to wipe my eye but felt something underneath it. It was a photo of Rainbow Dash and a Dark Blue Pegasus smiling at one another. I couldn’t contain myself any longer. I broke down and wept into my hospital blanket, but they were not tears of sadness, they were tears of happiness. I finally got to know what it was like to have a mother. The warmth, the love, all of it was flowing through me. I looked at the photo for a long time. I turned it over and something was written on it. ‘I love you my little filly, and I always will, never forget that-RD’. I sat there and continued to cry and read that over and over. When I finally got a hold of myself I sat there, still smiling. Dried tears covered my face. I now know what it is like to have a mother that I can call my own, even if I’m not with her anymore.
I won’t forget you either mom.
I’ll never forget you.
The End
