Cold

Applejack was panicked. She was generally worried about how she was going to be a pony again. How she was ever going to go back to her apple farm. Would she ever be able to see her family again?

As for her senior, he seemed nice enough. Atlasbreaker was the kind of what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of wolves. He had no supposed past, nothing. As they walked through the woods, Applejack decided to be a bit more social with her new mentor.

      “So, how’re y’all?”

“Good, good. Not much happenin’. At least not yet.”

Atlasbreaker spoke with a Manehattan kind of accent.

“So, what are we s’posed to do?”

“Well sweetheart, first we gotta go check on the pups. Check the guardin’ positions, make sure them chuckle heads ain’t fooling around.”

for some reason, Atlasbreaker reminded Applejack of those marefia mobsters she usually saw on TV. The way they called almost every mare “sweetheart” and that strong Manehattan accent. She could almost imagine him smoking a cigar, donning a hat, a suit with maybe a couple of henchmen by his side. He truly did have the kind of “Godfather” kind of feel to him.

“Has anybody ever told ya’ that you look like a mobster?” Applejack asked

“I get that alot. That’s why they gave me the nickname: “The Dogfather”.”

      “Well, that’s mighty fine I s’pose?”

“Sure it is sweetheart! You’re hanging with the don. You’re the protege of The Dogfather himself. Why wouldn’t this be good?”

“Say, you mind tellin’ me what time it is?”

Atlasbreaker stared at the moon for a while before answering.

“Yea, a little afta three, unless da moon’s broke again.”

Applejack was confused a little. It was three in the morning. Under normal circumstances she would’ve fallen asleep by now.

      “Hey, youse alright?”

      “I’m fine sugarcube.”

“Had me goings for a while there. Anyways, we best be goin’. We’re burning moonlights.”

Applejack didn’t argue. She followed her senior as he made his way through the woods. He eventually made his way to a clearing.

      “Boys!” Atlasbreaker yelled

Immediately three wolves burst out of nowhere. They surrounded both Atlasbreaker and AJ. One of the wolves was beige, some parts of him looked like roaring flames that were tipped with black. Another wolf was mostly green but he had a mixture of red and yellow in his coat color. The last wolf was blue but his tail and some parts of him were fiery red.

      “So, got anythin’ to report?”

      “Nothin boss.”

      “Pyrefly?”

      “Nope.” The beige wolf replied

      “How’s about you Werebrony?”

      “Nothin.” The green wolf replied

“What kind of a name is Werebrony? Anyways what about you Feather Book?”

      “Zilch.” The blue wolf replied

“I s’pose that’s good. Less work for us”

Atlasbreaker motioned for them to go. They took off and left AJ and her senior alone. Atlasbreaker sighed and continued walking.

      “So, how’re yer friends?”

“My friends? Yea they’re pretty good. I mean, Covert’s a bit squeamish and all but damn that guy is sneaky. Then there’s Kenshin, before you realize it you’re dead, this guy makes sure it’s fast, quiet, clean. Frenzy is just insane, I like that, kids got a lot of energy. Backdraft’s a pretty cool guy, then there’s Raycaster.”

      “What ‘bout Raycaster?”

“I mean he’s a good leader and all but I think I can do better. And then Backdraft want’s to be pack leader too, ha! As if it’s ever gonna work.”

“Whadya mean? he’s your friend why dont’ya think he can do it?”

“Backdraft’s a great friend, not a great leader. There’s a reason why his old pack fell apart.”

      “His old pack?”

“You wanna hear the story you go ask him, capice?”

      “Um yea.”

      “So anyways- Who’s that?”

Applejack turned her attention to where Atlasbreaker was looking. She saw a blue wolf with a light blue stripe running down his side. He was sitting and simply stargazing. He paid Atlasbreaker no attention.

“Blue Streak, is that you?” Atlasbreaker asked

The blue wolf turned and looked at Atlasbreaker.

      “Well, duh?”

“Ain’t you s’pose to be at the Wolf House? I mean, you’re an alpha.”

“Well, we alpha’s gotta get outta the house once in awhile amirite?”

      “But, why?”

“To get away from the other wolves. RainbowWolf specifically. Man that guy can pull a prank.”

“But why come here? Out of all the packs.”

“Yea, Why did I come here? Oh right! Listen, the Wolf House is gonna send a few alpha’s here to check the recruits.”

      “Who’re they sending?”

“I’ll give you six possibilities. Only four of these six are coming. RainbowWolf, Pyromaniac, Executioner, Inferno Heart, Crashing Star and Gyvon.”

      “So, when’re they coming?”

      “I guess ‘morrow morning.”

“Well, thanks for the heads up.”

      “No prob.”

Atlasbreaker walked away, heading for the cave. Applejack followed close behind, unaware of Atlasbreaker’s plans.

      “So, where are y’all headed?”

      “Back to the cave.”

      “Why?”

“To go to sleep. The alphas always come by 8 or 9. Might as well get some shuteye.”

“But didn’t Blue Streak say they were coming tomorrow morning ‘stead?”

“The Wolf House are huge trolls. I ain’t takin’ any chances.”

Applejack simply followed him. In a matter of minutes, they had arrived at the cave. Atlasbreaker walked in followed by Applejack. Pinkie and Frenzy watched them.

      “Back so soon?” Frenzy asked

“Nah not much to do. Anyways some alphas are gonna come down to take a quick look. Better hit the hay a bit earlier t’night.”

“Aww, I didn’t want to sleep tonight. Well, goodnight then.”

Frenzy settled down and tried to fall asleep. Pinkie Pie too tried to doze off. She was sleeping quite close to Frenzy. The black and pink wolf didn’t seem to mind at all. Atlasbreaker slept alone. Applejack followed the same initiative and curled up into a ball. The cave was cold so sleeping was near impossible.

       “Hey.”

Applejack turned to the source of the voice. It was Atlasbreaker.

      “Yea?”

“Why so anti-social? C’mon over. I got plenty of space.”

Applejack felt a little blood rush to her face but she didn’t object. She walked over to Atlasbreaker and curled up into a ball. Atlasbreaker rested his head on the curled form of AJ, soon enough, the two wolves had fallen asleep. Next Chapter: Petulant Pansy Estimated time remaining: 29 Minutes
