Chapter 12: Leadership

Leadership

RainbowWolf kept true to his word and did indeed give them a half day tutorial on all that they already knew. He taught them the best places to bite, claw and what not (Starring Kenshin as his personal punching bag).

Halfway through the tutorial, two new wolves came up. One of which was black and had a silver star shooting down his side. The other was pure grey, he looked pretty malicious. The two wolves both looked pretty laid back.

“Crash!” RainbowWolf said while giving the black wolf a high-paw

“Executioner!” RainbowWolf exclaimed before giving The grey wolf a bro-paw.

“What’s up?” The black wolf asked asked

“Nothing. Just giving the newbies and their seniors the usual low-down.”

“Cool. What’re we playing later for war games?” The grey wolf asked asked

      “We’re playing Slender.” RW answered

“Alright!” The black and silver wolf said while doing a paw-pump

RainbowWolf turned his attention back to the 12 wolves.

“Guys and gals, may I introduce to you, Executioner-” RainbowWolf gestured towards the grey wolf “-and Crashing Star.” He gestured to the black and silver wolf.

      “Hi.” Crashing Star greeted

“How’s it going?” The grey wolf said

No one replied.

      “Tough crowd.” RW whistled

“Meh. We’ve been through worse.” Crashing Star said

      “Remember Wolfington, DC?” Executioner asked

“Oh yea. That was bad. Reaaaaaaaaal bad.” RW replied

“So, can we get on to the war games now?” Executioner asked

“Oh right! Gather round everybody.” RW said

Everybody surrounded the four alphas. Pyromaniac seemed neutral on this whole thing. RW was looking quite smug alongside Crashing Star and Executioner.

“The rules to this game are incredibly simple. You, go walking around the forest. Me and the other alphas, will try and stop you. Remember, you HAVE to stick with your protege. Last team standing, wins. Frenzy, you’re excused since you’re clearly in no shape to perform now. Covert, you too since if we put you in it’d be too easy for us.”

“What do we get if we win?” Backdraft asked

“You get to live.” RW responded

Backdraft nodded. Raycaster had no emotion showing whatsoever. Atlasbreaker looked pretty paranoid. Kenshin was pretty calm about the whole situation. The elements were pretty scared. Save for Rainbow Dash who was stretching and warming up.

“You have a 10 second head start. Starting from now.” Crashing Star said

The wolves stopped what they were doing and scattered, two-by-two. The alphas simply watched as the wolves all ran off in different directions. With only Frenzy, Pinkie, Covert and Fluttershy remaining. All of them chatting.

“By the way, happy birthday bro.” Crashing Star said

“Wait, that was today?” RW replied

“Nah. It’s a few days ahead, January 8th right?” Crashing Star asked

      “Yea.” RW replied

      “Happy birthday man.” Executioner said

“Thanks. Anyways, how’s Veonetric?” RW asked

“He’s okay I guess. Kinda hard to be coaching a wolf when he’s in another pack. This pack to be exact. Might pay him a visit. He’s cold and heartless, yet warm and caring at the same time. Sometimes he care sometimes he honestly couldn’t give any less of a damn. He’s like the night. It can be cold and relentless, not caring about what you think as it sees you in it’s own light and shadow. And it can also be a light through darkness, a guide and a friend, giving you a shoulder to lean on, and the cool night air to keep you relaxed and comfortable.” Executioner said

      “That was beautiful.” RW said

“Speaking of proteges, how’s Pyromaniac?” Crashing Star said. The white she-wolf walked over upon hearing her name being called

“Hmm, she’s awesome. She’s usually funny. Just don’t catch her in a bad mood.” RW replied while hooking a foreleg over Pyromaniac.

Pyromaniac rolled her eyes

“So, should we go do our duty and go hunt them down?” Executioner asked

“Well, I think we’ve given them enough time to piss themselves. Alright, let’s go huntin’ boys.” RW said

Pyromaniac coughed.

      “Um... and girls I guess.”

Meanwhile...

Atlasbreaker and Applejack were not too happy about being hunted down by the four alphas. Atlasbreaker had completely abandoned the laid back Godfather persona and was now paranoid as hell. He kept glancing around at every sound that was made. It was evening by now. Darkness was starting to crawl across the sky and engulf the world in it’s shadows.

“This is bad. No, wait, this is BEYOND bad.” Atlasbreaker muttered

“C’mon sugarcube, they can’t be that bad.”

“You really wanna find out the hard way sweetheart?”

Applejack took that into consideration. Better safe than sorry.

“So what do we do?” AJ asked

“We move. Don’t stop and give them time to track you down.”

“And what if we find the other wolves?”

Atlasbreaker paused for awhile, as if he had never considered that it would ever happen.

“We’ll cross that bridge when we get to it. But for now, we have to worry about our own keisters.” Atlasbreaker said

Meanwhile...

Kenshin and Rarity were walking through the woods. Rarity had no idea whatsoever to where they were going.

“So, um... If I might ask, where exactly are we headed?”

“To an old spot that I’ve been hiding out in for years. It’s how I managed to avoid all the wargames since I joined up ‘till now.”

      “Well, that is rather smart.”

      “Smart? It’s genius!”

      “Well, I guess.”

“Nobody’s been able to evade the harsh wargames of the alphas up until now.”

Rarity continued walking. Relieved that she wouldn’t have to take part in the game.

Meanwhile...

Backdraft and Rainbow Dash walked through the woods. They weren’t in any sort of rush.

“Shouldn’t we like, run so that they can’t find us?” RD asked

“I never really liked to run. Only cowards run. But if it’s for a race, I’ll do what I must.”

“So, what if we bump into the other wolves?” Rainbow Dash asked

“Depends. If it’s Atlasbreaker, I think I’d probably just say hi, then leave. Kenshin is probably hiding somewhere in the woods again. And then there’s Raycaster... Let’s just say you might wanna back up if we bump into him.” Backdraft replied, with malice clearly present in his voice

Rainbow Dash was not too ecstatic about running into the pack leader anymore.

      “What’re you gonna do?”

Backdraft stopped, he took a deep breath before continuing.

“That doesn’t concern you.” Backdraft snarled

Rainbow Dash kept silent. They walked into a clearing with no trees or vegetation nearby. Just one big circle of cold, hard dirt. Backdraft stopped and didn’t move anymore.

      “What is it?” Dash asked

      “I hear something.” Backdraft replied

Rainbow focused and eventually she could hear the sound of footsteps approaching their way.

Meanwhile...

Raycaster and Twilight made their way through the forest with no clear destination in mind. Raycaster walked and did not stop. Twilight followed close behind.

      “So, where are we going?”

      “I don’t know.”

“Will your friends play nice and all or-”

Raycaster sighed. Cutting her off. Sadness occupied his eyes. He continued walking

“Honestly, I’m scared. Deep down I’m still scared. All the time. But right now I’m especially afraid. Because I practically have a target on my back. Atlasbreaker, he’s a great friend and all. But he’s pretty unpredictable. He could turn at any moment. Kenshin would be wise enough to stay out of my way, then Backdraft. I’m honestly just flat out scared of him. He’s got the strength, he’s got the speed, he’s got the skill. I can’t match up to him. All I wanted was to keep the pack together, but I can’t do it thanks to him. I honestly wish we could be on better terms, but he doesn’t want it that way. He wants to prove to everyone that he’s a better leader, that what happened with Project Vortex was just an accident. But I had to do it. I stepped in. Why? Because I knew he was going to fail again. And I can’t possibly bear the thought of him failing again. He’d be destroyed.”

The purple wolf had been so engulfed in his speech that he had walked into a clearing. It was just one big circle with no trees whatsoever. On the opposite side of this clearing was a big, black and blue wolf.

Backdraft.

      “Raycaster.” Backdraft growled

“Backdraft, we don’t have to do this.” Raycaster said

Twilight retreated to the edge of the clearing with Rainbow Dash.

“I’ve been under your command for far too long. Enough is enough! It’s time for a change Raycaster.”

“Backdraft, I really don’t want to do this.” Raycaster warned

“So?! Do I look like I care?! For years and years I’ve been haunted by the same past that put me in this rag-tag-team of idiots you call a pack! I’ve been wanting to redeem myself, to relieve the pain in my chest, to prove to them all that I am a genuine born leader! And what did you do?! You stepped in and snatched it away from me!” Backdraft snapped

“I’m sorry. If you took the reins...” Raycaster replied, pain clearly in his voice

“What?! What’s gonna happen?! What’s the worst that could happen huh?! Tell me you worthless bag of bones!”

“You know what would’ve happened. The pack would be dead now if you were the leader. I’m sorry Backdraft, I can’t let you go through all that again.”

“It would’ve gone better! I wouldn’t have slipped up!“

“I’m sorry Backdraft. But I don’t have any faith in you. Not a single bit.” Raycaster said, with sadness clearly audible in his voice

Backdraft snapped. He charged straight for Raycaster. Next Chapter: Game Over Estimated time remaining: 9 Minutes
