Vinyl Scratch eats Salsa

by RushingAutumnLeaves

Chapter 1: Eating Salsa

"What are those?" Octavia asked as her marefriend walked through the door. Clasped firmly in the white unicorn's jaws was a package of hay-chips; the even unhealthier version of hayfries that came in packages.

"They're the new brand!" Vinyl Scratch protested. "I wanted to try them." she used her magic to pop the bag open, but Octavia pulled the bag away and placed it on the table.

"You're going to have some salsa with these hay-chips. I just bought a brand new jar last night." Octavia crossed the kitchen to the cabinet and carefully grabbed the jar. She set it on the table next to Vinyl's hay-chips and smiled.

"No thanks. I'll stick with just the hay-chips," Vinyl reached into the bag and shoved four hay-chips into her mouth. Octavia gave her a look.

"Vinyl Scratch, you can't spend your entire life eating nothing but hayfries and hay-chips. You'll get fat,"

"I don't want to eat...that stuff," Vinyl countered. "It looks gross."

"It's healthy, and you're going to eat it." Octavia pressed. She nudged the bowl of salsa closer to Vinyl, who recoiled.

"It's got...stuff in it!"

"That's what gives it flavor. Now eat the salsa. It's not going to hurt you." Octavia sighed. "I can sit here all day, Vinyl. I have nothing to do."

"I have something to do!" Vinyl protested. "I have a party to go to! I was hired! Four Hundred bits, Octy!"

"Well, you'll just have to go without the bits until you eat the salsa," Octavia again pushed the salsa bowl closer. Vinyl stuck out a hoof to keep the salsa at a distance. The grey mare groaned. Vinyl refusing to eat the salsa was such a foalish behavior. Octavia remembered her psychology courses from University and a smirk crossed her face.

"Alright, Vinyl, you don't have to eat the salsa," The unicorn's ears perked.

"Really? I don't have to eat it?" A large smile spread across her face and Octavia held back a giggle. Vinyl, not noticing Octavia's failed attempt, left the table and began skipping around the kitchen chanting:

"I'm free, I'm free!"

She didn't even care when her glasses fell to the floor and shattered.

"You're free, Vinyl. I guess I'll have to eat it by myself. It's probably too spicy for you anyway." Octavia grabbed a hay-chip from the bag Vinyl had bought and swirled it around in the salsa. "Oh well. It would have been nice to enjoy a snack with my marefriend, but if you'd rather leave..."

"I'll try one. One, Octy" Vinyl said seriously. "But only because it's not fair that you get to eat all my hay-chips." Vinyl used her magic to scoop a large amount of salsa onto her hay-chip and she held it in front of her mouth. "Here goes nothing," opening wide, Vinyl shoved the hay-chip into her mouth and chewed for a few seconds. She swallowed with a loud gulp and stared at Octavia.

"There, that wasn't so bad, was it?" Octavia said with a smile. Vinyl began to nod, but she stopped suddenly. Her eyes went wide and she let out a whine.

"It's hot!" she cried. Vinyl began to run around the room, her tongue flapping about as she screamed about her mouth being on fire.

"Vinyl Scratch," Octavia hissed. "Stop being so over dramatic. It is just salsa."

"It burns, Octy! My mouth is on fire! Are you trying to kill me?"

"Vinyl, you're being ridiculous. Why would I be trying to kill you?" the grey mare rolled her eyes. "You're just being over dramatic to prove a point. Alright, point proven. You don't like salsa. Now stop acting like such a foal." Vinyl used her magic to turn on the kitchen sink and stuck her open mouth beneath the running water.

"Hothothothothothothothot," she gurgled. The water soaked Vinyl's muzzle and trickled into her electric blue mane. "Octavia, that was super spicy!"

"That was just mild salsa. It wasn't that spicy at all." Octavia reached out and grabbed the salsa jar in her hoof. "It says right on the package that...oh," The wrapping on the salsa jar read:

WARNING: EXTRA HOT. NOT FOR FIRST TIME SALSA EATERS.

Biting her bottom lip to suppress a laugh, Octavia faced her marefriend.

"Er...Vinyl? You don't have to eat salsa anymore," the grey mare burst into laughter as the unicorn snatched the salsa jar from her hooves. Her eyes scanned the label and her magenta eyes flashed red.

"Octy!" She whined. "You were trying to kill me! I knew it!" Octavia continued to laugh as her marefriend threw the salsa jar into the garbage bin and stuck her head under the faucet once more.

"I'm sorry!" The cellist laughed. "I didn't mean to give you such spicy salsa."

"Octy?"

"Yes, Vinyl?"

"Can I have my hay-chips back?" Octavia scooted the bag across the table and Vinyl grabbed them with her magic. "Octy?"

"Yes, Vinyl?"

"Never make me try new things again. Ever." The unicorn looked serious. Trying to keep a straight face, Octavia smiled.

"I, Octavia Philharmonica, promise that I will never force my marefriend, Vinyl Record Scratch, to try new things ever again."

"One more thing, Octy," Vinyl leaned in and pressed her muzzle against Octavia's in a quick kiss. "I love you. Even if you did try to kill me," Before Octavia could respond, Vinyl had taken her hay-chips and trotted off to her bedroom.

Author's Notes:

Yeah...I don't know. The idea came to me while eating chips and salsa so...
