The History of Forte
Chapter 2: Chance's of Smile
Previous ChapterEverything was going pretty good without Gia and her group in my life. I don't know what they think of with me out of there life. Some people say that Gia and her group broke up into separate groups because of some arguments. But do I care, yeah right, Spirit and I are happily best friends forever. Though I do sometimes miss those sleepovers on the weekends. But I really got to know my family better then ever, maybe changing groups was a good idea.
Spirit lives two houses down to the left. We have a small wooded area behind our house that I know like the back of my hand. Even though Spirit lives close to me we don't hang out often, the reason is Spirit's dad is always on tour with his jazz band and Spirit's mom is her dad's manager for late night shows in town, so Spirit is left with a babysitter who chargers extra by kid. My mom doesn't like two screaming girls running around our house anymore, not what happened last time.
It was two weeks before summer break and Spirit's dad was starting his tour around the city so her mom was going to work even later. My older sister at that time who was 12 was looking for a job to buy a new bike. My sister persuaded Spirit's mom into letting her baby sit (but I think she got her for the cheaper payment then the past babysitter). After shaking hands with her mom, Spirit and I dashed of to the back yard into the woods, imagining we were pirates, ever since that day forth, we were always Captain Forte and Sailor Spirit, of course right after homework.
--------
During the middle of June, random moving trucks started pulling over loads of furniture to the house across from me. We were curious at first but then we pretended they were enemy ships that were secretly a band of robbers, so we spied on them every day to make sure they didn't take any of our treasure. Of course, that got boring after a while because what fun is there watching hairy sweaty men move furniture. Bur Spirit seemed to enjoy it, she came up with a "hypothesis" that our new neighbors were vampires, because they never come out of there house into the sunlight. But that's just Spirit being Spirit.
One day when my mom was fixing me a bowl of my favorite cereal, she started talking to me about the new neighbors.
"So, the new neighbors moved in and I got to talk to them"
"That's great mom" I said, shoving down spoonfuls of cereal into my mouth, "You know I have noticed the spies have been getting less and less".
"What-, oh never mind, any ways they have a little girl you know and she's the same age as you and Spirit, maybe you guys can play together"
I started putting on my jacket and walking to the door,"Not on this ship matey, we don't pick up rogues"
My mom rolled her eyes, and I ran out of the door.
"I can't believe it, summers over already" complained Spirit. "I just can't believe we are already in second grade" I laughed. We sat down to desks next to each other. The bell rang and we all sat like angels, while the teacher walked in. "Morning class, I'm Mrs.Crownsmith and I'll be your new teacher, but other then that, we have a new student to Diamond Elementary" the teacher had a bit of a Southern accent, I liked her, she was kinda like a cowboy. The new student stood up, it was the girl who lived across from me, Spirit and I saw her in the car driving past us a couple times. I really never seen her outside of her car before, she was very skinny and she was so pale that she was almost white, she had black hair and she was wearing all black. "Everyone down before the vampire gets us she will suck your blood" screamed Spirit. Oh no, not the first day of school, "Right Forte", said Spirit turning to look at me, everyone was staring at us. "Young lady, that is no way to we,come a new student" screamed Mrs. Crownsmith, " you can march yourself to the principal's office".
-------
"Come one, you can't help but feel bad don't you" I asked Spirit at lunch. "Forte, I was not making fun of her, I was expecting her to play along" complained Spirit. We stood at the tables looking for a place to sit, then I saw the girl by herself, (I didn't really catch her name because I was way to embarrassed). "Hey why not there next to uh-uh the new girl",we started walking there, until we say Gia and her friends walked over and started talking to her. "OH NO WE GOT TO SAVE HER" screamed Spirit.
We quickly speed walked (the lunch room monitors were watching) over there. "Your just a little freak you know that ahahahaha" laughed Gia along with her group. "Hey leave her alone, she never did anything wrong" I screamed. "Maybe not, except existing" laughed Gia. I had pretty good come back skills since I was five, this was a excellent time. "Psh you know what's even worse, being friends with you" Spirit and I high fived and we laughed. "Haha but it was totally worth it kicking you two out". I was beaten, that was something sensitive to Spirit and me still.
We backed down and I whispered sorry to uh what ever the new girls name was. "Mayb-", i was interrupted, the girl got up and I just realized that her eyes were black, she was staring at Gia and friends. "Look just get your ugly faces out of my way and leave my friends alone". "Fr-friends?" I stuttered, No one had ever called them ugly before. I smirked, and I started laughing, like a loud laugh. The group of girls bolted and left us alone to eat by our new friend.
"Hey, thanks for standing up for me" said Chance (beautiful name right). "No, thank you for the biggest laugh we will ever have in a life time, that really showed those brats" I laughed. "Hey I'm sorry I called you a vampire back there" mumbled Spirit.
"Hey it's cool, I thought you just took a lucky guess in class for me being a vampire and all"
"Huh?"
"Duh, I do witch craft".
I stared in shock, then I said, "hey got anything we can do to Gia with that talent".
