Forte's Spirit
Hello, I'm Forte, I was born on December 31, 1994. I know in these kind of stories I'm suppose to explain my talents. But apparently I only have one which is music, music is like everything to me. It's my food and water, I just can't survive without it. Maybe I should say something about my family, all of my family are super smart, except me. I have no idea why, my dad is a doctor and so is my mom. My older sister is a dentist. When my mom asked me what classes I would take for college, I knew she was hoping I would say medical, instead I said music. My mom literally twitched and just said " you might want to think that over again". My parents are pretty protective and supportive. But they believe my music ability is extra curricular.
I go to Harmony High school, one of the best schools in our area, but we live in the suburbs, so that's like nothing. And if they think this is the best school, then the rest of the schools must be really bad. First of all, our school has no good teacher, either the teacher doesn't speak English well, or has no idea what they are doing, but there's this one teacher that doesn't do anything at all. The only thing I can do to survive there is my ukelele, or my naps in class.
Okay, well that just about covers it, I'll start my story when I was in kindergarten. Then I only played one instrument, shocking right. I had a lot of friends, surprisingly. It was this whole girls group which I was in and so were 30 other girls. I didnt know who Spirit or Chance was and my musical skills haven't fully developed. So I was the talkative kind, it was a pretty fun life, I would atleast have 3 sleepovers a week. Yes I was living the full life, but there was always one thing that irked me, everyone in our group was a brunette or blonde. There's nothing wrong with that, not dissing blondes or brunettes, but with my black smokey colored hair I stood out, I hate standing out.
Then there was skin color, again not dissing anyone but I had a olive colored skin while everyone was a snowflake. When we had sleepover and we were messing with there moms make up, most of it consisting dark rich colors, it would never show up and I had to use the bright colors, which made me look like a circus clown. I told my friends this, and they all gave me a hug, I knew this was going to be a beautiful friendship. Boy, was i wrong.
Then, quick like a cheetah, it was first grade, that meant no more naps and no more cookies and milk. Sometimes I really miss those days. The girls and I were still together, there has never been a fight. Well atleast no yet, now in first grade it was a full school day for us, it was never morning class or afternoon like it use to be. There was also now lunch and soon the sucidal moment of choosing a lunch table. There was never enough to fit 31 girls at the ten seater lunch table. Then the problem started.
We just learned division and I thought if thirty one divided my ten it can fit up to three tables but there is going to be one left out. I told them my calculation and they whispered to each other. I decided to just leave before I start crying, stupid math. "'Wait Anita", yep that was my name, it's a Spanish name for beauty, though I am not Mexican. Sorry a bit of topic back to the story, anyways I turned my head to see, Gia, the leader of our group calling to me, "Spirit your out, Anita come sit here". I saw a small tiny short girl walk out of the middle of our group, she had a surprised look then it became so sad. I felt so bad for her, these were her only friends and she trusted them, and they kicked her out.
For the whole day I was thinking about this "Spirit" girl. I was so upset and so scared, what if this happens to me. It was recess time and I saw Spirit shooting hoops by herself on the far side of the playground, I was I talking to the girls but kept glancing over my shoulder to look at her. " Hey girls, I'm going over to Spirit, she looks a bit....lonely" I said. All of there heads turned around and stared, then Gia piped up, "Anita, if you go over there you are out of the group, when someone is out of the group you never talk to them like EVER". I winced at the words she said, it was either my friends or the right thing.
"May Santa, put me on the nice list" I started walking alway and started heading Spirit's way. "YOUR OUT OF THE GROUP ANITA, OUT OF IT YOU HEAR ME!!!!!!" I heard Gia scream. I scoffed, some people took this to seriously, and ran to Spirit, "Hey, can I play". Spirit turned around, "Oh it's you".
"Look I'm sorry about what happened today"
"Sorry, is that it, I was kicked out cause of you,I have no more friends cause of you, no one likes me anymore, I HATE YOU"
I suddenly regretted leaving the group but it was too late. Then I had the most brilliant idea ever. I grabbed Spirit by the wrist and dragged her in the building. "Hey wait-" I ran into a small shabby room where all the instruments were stored. I found a drum and started banging on it, keeping a beat, I tossed a trumpet to Spirit, and she blew into it and started playing. " wow I didn't know you could play" I smiled. "My dad is a jazz musician" said Spirit.
Me and Spirit were pounding on drums, blowing on kazoos, smashing syombols, shaking maracas. The recess bell rang, and me and Spirit were pure out of breath. "Hey Anita, I think this is going to be a start of a beautiful friendship" said Spirit. I smiled and we walked to class hand in hand.
While we were walking Spirit was telling me that Anita doesn't fit me, so she decided to change it to, Forte as in the musical symbol, I stared at her quizzically. "Your loud and awesome and a big nice surprise for me", screamed Spirit. " Forte it is"

Chance's of Smile
Everything was going pretty good without Gia and her group in my life. I don't know what they think of with me out of there life. Some people say that Gia and her group broke up into separate groups because of some arguments. But do I care, yeah right, Spirit and I are happily best friends forever. Though I do sometimes miss those sleepovers on the weekends. But I really got to know my family better then ever, maybe changing groups was a good idea.
Spirit lives two houses down to the left. We have a small wooded area behind our house that I know like the back of my hand. Even though Spirit lives close to me we don't hang out often, the reason is Spirit's dad is always on tour with his jazz band and Spirit's mom is her dad's manager for late night shows in town, so Spirit is left with a babysitter who chargers extra by kid. My mom doesn't like two screaming girls running around our house anymore, not what happened last time.
It was two weeks before summer break and Spirit's dad was starting his tour around the city so her mom was going to work even later. My older sister at that time who was 12 was looking for a job to buy a new bike. My sister persuaded Spirit's mom into letting her baby sit (but I think she got her for the cheaper payment then the past babysitter). After shaking hands with her mom, Spirit and I dashed of to the back yard into the woods, imagining we were pirates, ever since that day forth, we were always Captain Forte and Sailor Spirit, of course right after homework.
--------
During the middle of June, random moving trucks started pulling over loads of furniture to the house across from me. We were curious at first but then we pretended they were enemy ships that were secretly a band of robbers, so we spied on them every day to make sure they didn't take any of our treasure. Of course, that got boring after a while because what fun is there watching hairy sweaty men move furniture. Bur Spirit seemed to enjoy it, she came up with a "hypothesis" that our new neighbors were vampires, because they never come out of there house into the sunlight. But that's just Spirit being Spirit.
One day when my mom was fixing me a bowl of my favorite cereal, she started talking to me about the new neighbors.
"So, the new neighbors moved in and I got to talk to them"
"That's great mom" I said, shoving down spoonfuls of cereal into my mouth, "You know I have noticed the spies have been getting less and less".
"What-, oh never mind, any ways they have a little girl you know and she's the same age as you and Spirit, maybe you guys can play together"
I started putting on my jacket and walking to the door,"Not on this ship matey, we don't pick up rogues"
My mom rolled her eyes, and I ran out of the door.
"I can't believe it, summers over already" complained Spirit. "I just can't believe we are already in second grade" I laughed. We sat down to desks next to each other. The bell rang and we all sat like angels, while the teacher walked in. "Morning class, I'm Mrs.Crownsmith and I'll be your new teacher, but other then that, we have a new student to Diamond Elementary" the teacher had a bit of a Southern accent, I liked her, she was kinda like a cowboy. The new student stood up, it was the girl who lived across from me, Spirit and I saw her in the car driving past us a couple times. I really never seen her outside of her car before, she was very skinny and she was so pale that she was almost white, she had black hair and she was wearing all black. "Everyone down before the vampire gets us she will suck your blood" screamed Spirit. Oh no, not the first day of school, "Right Forte", said Spirit turning to look at me, everyone was staring at us. "Young lady, that is no way to we,come a new student" screamed Mrs. Crownsmith, " you can march yourself to the principal's office".
-------
"Come one, you can't help but feel bad don't you" I asked Spirit at lunch. "Forte, I was not making fun of her, I was expecting her to play along" complained Spirit. We stood at the tables looking for a place to sit, then I saw the girl by herself, (I didn't really catch her name because I was way to embarrassed). "Hey why not there next to uh-uh the new girl",we started walking there, until we say Gia and her friends walked over and started talking to her. "OH NO WE GOT TO SAVE HER" screamed Spirit.
We quickly speed walked (the lunch room monitors were watching) over there. "Your just a little freak you know that ahahahaha" laughed Gia along with her group. "Hey leave her alone, she never did anything wrong" I screamed. "Maybe not, except existing" laughed Gia. I had pretty good come back skills since I was five, this was a excellent time. "Psh you know what's even worse, being friends with you" Spirit and I high fived and we laughed. "Haha but it was totally worth it kicking you two out". I was beaten, that was something sensitive to Spirit and me still.
We backed down and I whispered sorry to uh what ever the new girls name was. "Mayb-", i was interrupted, the girl got up and I just realized that her eyes were black, she was staring at Gia and friends. "Look just get your ugly faces out of my way and leave my friends alone". "Fr-friends?" I stuttered, No one had ever called them ugly before. I smirked, and I started laughing, like a loud laugh. The group of girls bolted and left us alone to eat by our new friend.
"Hey, thanks for standing up for me" said Chance (beautiful name right). "No, thank you for the biggest laugh we will ever have in a life time, that really showed those brats" I laughed. "Hey I'm sorry I called you a vampire back there" mumbled Spirit.
"Hey it's cool, I thought you just took a lucky guess in class for me being a vampire and all"
"Huh?"
"Duh, I do witch craft".
I stared in shock, then I said, "hey got anything we can do to Gia with that talent".
