Appleshy romance is magic
Chapter 2: A very awkward dinner part 1
Previous ChapterFluttershy prepared her various things for her dinner with Applejack. She was certainly nervous to say the very least. Fluttershy knew that the dinner would be just as friends, but the restaurant was rather popular among couples, which deeply concerned Fluttershy. "What if they think that were, together?" Fluttershy nervously asked herself over and over. Each thought within Fluttershy's head ignited an explosion of other's that resembled the branches of a tree. All the branches stemming from a single thought, and the same could be said for Fluttershy's thoughts. She was also concerned about how many people would be attending dinner at the restaurant. It would be a rather large understatement to say that Fluttershy did not like crowds, she hated them. Even when she was by herself she was very timid and shy, and usually would get spooked by her own shadow. She slowly picked up a brush with her hoof and began to brush her hair. She would brush it down, but the end would always flip up, everybody would always say that it was cute, but Fluttershy wished it was straight, but it would always curl, and tonight was no different. She looked at herself in the mirror and was rather satisfied with her appearance, and sat her brush down. As she trotted away she began to think "oh no, what if Applejack thinks I’m trying to look good for her. That would be terribly awkward." as she thought this she also thought "what if I don’t look good and embarrass us, that would be terribly awkward too." Fluttershy was at a standstill, concerned about looking to good and giving off the wrong impression, or looking to bad and giving off an equally bad impression. She pondered both routes for a few minutes, playing out various scenarios in her head, each increasingly worse than the one previously. She glanced up at the clock in the center of the room and noticed the time; it was almost time to go. She grabbed her things and put them in a pouch nestled between her side and her wings. It was easier than carrying things between your teeth, but it was somewhat uncomfortable. She put in a few bits to help contribute for the cost of the dinner which she thought would be a rather expensive meal, and then pushed open the door timidly, looked around much like a mouse, and begun cantering towards her destination, Sweet Apple Acres. Unlike the morning, Fluttershy was immediately greeted with cool, and crisp air. The sun had lowered its self from the sky, and was replaced by the beautiful, illuminated moon. As Fluttershy cantered down the path towards the Acres she glanced off, admiring the wonderful night. Nights were much better after Princess Luna became the princess of night, before she turned into Nightmare Night, but that was all in the past Fluttershy reminded herself. The thought crossed Fluttershy as odd, to say the least. She was terrified of Princess Luna, but couldn’t help admiring the night that she made, so beautiful, so majestic she thought to herself. Although it was late, Fluttershy wasn't concerned about her safety like she would be during the daytime. She preferred secluded and old pathways and roads. They made her feel more at ease because of the animals that had set up their homes near the pathways and roads. She saw various squirrels move about up ahead, she thought about calming down, but decided she had very little time. She picked up her pace from a slow canter to a slow gallop anytime she thought she heard something, and then a few seconds later she realized it was nothing and slowed down to her previous speed. Although she was not concerned about her safety, she was starting to get a little spooked at various times at various times throughout the night, "oh Fluttershy, there’s nothing to be scared of." She said to calm herself down repeatedly. Eventually after about twenty minutes she made it to the entry way to Sweet Apple Acres, but she knew she was getting close even before she saw the sign, the smell of apples had given it away. As she stepped into the entrance of the Acres she noticed everything else was dark except for the light illuminating from one of the top rooms of the house in the center. She cantered to the door and cautiously gave it a gentle knock, careful not to wake every pony up. After a few seconds she could make out the soft clicking of someone’s hooves approaching. The door opened and Fluttershy saw Applejack, but it wasn't the same Applejack that Fluttershy had seen before. Her hair was styled like always, but it looked nicer. Also she looked full of life, like she wasn't tired, which gave her am almost radiant glow. Applejack noticed Fluttershy's gawking expression and started blushing. Fluttershy immediately attempted to retain her composure after she noticed what she was doing, and how it was having an effect on Applejack. "You look really nice." Fluttershy squeaked unintentionally. "Aw thanks, you look nice yer self." Applejack responded with a small smile. The two shared a small giggle. "Ah called the taxi carriage and they said that they'll be here in about twenty minutes or so, so yeah." Applejack said. Fluttershy responded with a small nod of her head. Fluttershy felt terribly under groomed for the situation, realizing how silly she had been earlier. "Hey, if you don’t mind and all, I’m going to fix myself up, if it's o.k. with you." Fluttershy said quietly, almost like a whisper. "Ya look alright ta me, but sure ah guess." Fluttershy responded with a nod and stepped up the stairs to the bathroom upstairs. She cantered to the bathroom and shut the door. She looked at herself in the mirror. She fixed her hair and looked at herself again, although she looked almost the same and left the bathroom with a renewed sense of confidence and she trotted downstairs. As she approached the living room downstairs she noticed Applejack wasn't there. She sat down on the table and noticed a small envelope addressed to Applejack. Fluttershy was about to look at the envelope when she saw Applejack trotting down the hallway. "Come on, taxi's here." Applejack said. Fluttershy nodded and stood up from the table and followed behind Applejack to the door. They both walked slowly outside and saw the carriage. It looked normal at first but then they noticed that it wasn't a normal one, it was one used for couples, much resembling the carriage that ponies would ride in after they got married. Fluttershy turned red with embarrassment, unsure if it was a mistake or if Applejack was trying to hint something at Fluttershy, Fluttershy desperately hoped that it was an accident, Fluttershy looked at Applejack and noticed her cheeks were read with embarrassment also. The two stood there for a moment beofre Applejack cleared her throat and said something. "Ah told em I wanted a normal one for dinner with a friend." Applejack said with a slightly annoyed tone, confirming Fluttershy's hopes that it was just an accident, Fluttershy breathed a sigh of relief. They continued trot to the carriage to avoid being late to dinner and were greeted by a carriage driver holding the dual door's open, revealing the interior of carriage. "Now where will you mares be heading?" he asked with curiosity in his voice. "Were heading to the restaurant at sixty seventh street" Applejack responded almost immediately, as if rehearsed somehow. He nodded and motioned for them to get inside the carriage. The inside of the carriage was rather nice and spacious Fluttershy thought to herself. Various paintings of flowers were painted on the wall, and the seats were made of very comfortable and nice leather. The smell of the carriage could have always been better, but it smelled much nicer than a normal carriage used by much more ponies. They both stepped inside and took seat's across from each other. The two sat awkwardly until Applejack began to speak "Ah guess im sorry, ah told em a normal carriage and they gave me this." Applejack said in slightly louder, but still annoyed tone. Fluttershy nodded "oh it's quite alright, I think I prefer this carriage to the other one though." Fluttershy said with a slight giggle. Applejack responded with a "yeah, ah think ah do to" accompanied by a giggle to. They laughed for a few minutes then they stopped and looked at each other. They sat there in silence for a few minutes. Fluttershy thought to herself Oh this isn’t so bad, who knows you may have a fun time. She looked over at Applejack who was sitting at the edge of her seat nervously. Fluttershy was about to speak up but then the carriage came to a slow stop. The door opened a few seconds later and they were greeted by the carriage driver and the sounds of downtown PonyVille." Well were here, I’ll just park the carriage over there until you mares are finished" he said, like he most likely said every single day. As he drove the carriage over to the spot he pointed at previously Applejack and Fluttershy both nodded in synchronization. They both approached the restaurant and noticed the large amount of people outside. Fluttershy turned around and noticed the amount of people outside the restaurant. The restaurant was clearly popular among couples. Various ponies were standing and chatting with another. Arms and wings wrapped around each other very romantically. The problem was that they were mare and stallion couples, and Applejack and Fluttershy looked like a mare and mare couple, even though they were not. A few whistles came from various stallions, which were immediately silenced by their partners. The whole situation was rather embarrassing for both of them, but they put that behind them and continued towards the entrance. Fluttershy thought about the stallion fellow who had refused to come here with Applejack, but decided that now was not the time for questions. Fluttershy let out a nervous squeak and they continued towards the entrance. They walked inside and waited in the line. Various conversations were coming from the various booths organized around the restaurant. Some ponies glanced up and saw them, but then turned away. Most ponies paid very little attention to them. Eventually a waiter came and pointed them to an empty booth. The table was a nice mahogany wood that had been cleaned recently and the seats were made up of a comfy leather. They both sat down next to each other. The seat was rather small so they were pressed up against each other. “Sorry ‘bout the seats and all.” Applejack said embarrassed. “Oh, it’s fine” Fluttershy responded. The whole situation was very awkward for Fluttershy. They were pressed up against each other because there was not enough space for them to have a comfortable amount of room, but from an onlooker the manner in which they were sitting in seemed very suggestive to say the least. Applejack nodded and picked up the menu. Fluttershy looked around and determined that all the seats were like this, but the reason why they looked bigger is because the ponies were wrapping their arms around their mate. Now Fluttershy knew why this place a restaurant for dates, but Fluttershy noticed something else, Fluttershy could feel the same feeling again, pressed up against Applejack but she knew what the feeling was this time, but she desperately hoped she was wrong about what she thought it was.
