Mike walked into the room dropping his backpack onto the ground before face planting into the bed. It was a long day that day, not busy but long. Most of his classes had pony teachers, not to mention pony students. Not that he had a problem with pony students, in fact he kind of found them pretty cool; the stallions were pretty cool to hang around, and the mares weren’t at all completely bad to look at; one might argue that they were pretty cute.

Mike let out a small groan turning over and looking up at the ceiling looking back at today’s classes and all the work he was currently putting off. “Why is there even letters in math, no one cares about why Suzie has twenty apples in her car!” Mike complained to no one in particular.

“Because that’s the only place where stuff like that can happen.” A small voice came from the doorway. “Besides, it’s not like you’re terrible at math.”

Mike looked up and saw Lyra standing in the doorway leaning against the frame with an unmistakable grin on her face. “Hey Lyra, didn’t realize you were home.” He stated.

“I just got back.” She stated walking into the room and walking in front of Mike who had moved to sit on the edge of his unmade bed. “Sounds like you had an interesting day.”

“Oh it was a blast.” Mike stated with a chuckle earning a laugh from the mint green unicorn.

The two sat there in silence for a while before Lyra sat down on her haunches looking up at Mike, her eyes avoiding his and a small smile on her lips. “You okay there Lyra?” Mike asked.

“Yeah, I’m fine.” She began shifting her weight from one hoof to the other as a small blush appeared on her face. “Listen I talked to that mare again; you know the one who has a crush on you.”

“And?”

“She was wondering if she could take you out on a sort of date tonight.”

Mike sat back placing his arms behind him to look straight up at the ceiling. Part of him knew this mare was Lyra from the way she was asking but as to why she wanted to ask him out was beyond him.  “I don’t know Lyra, do I even know this mare?” he asked pretending to be oblivious to her actions.

“Yeah, you know her.” She stated still trying to hide her un-easiness.

“What’s her name?” Mike stated giving the pony a small smirk.

“Um….” She began biting her lower lip trying to think of something earning a laugh from the human.

“If you’re afraid that I won’t go out with her because it’s you, you don’t have to worry about it. I’ll go out with you.” Mike stated.

“Y-You will!?” she stated now smiling.

“But you’ll have to enlighten me; I’m not used to being the one put on the spot like this.”

“That’s right, human’s do things differently don’t they?” Lyra stated.

“Yeah, still not used to the whole reverse gender thing.” Mike stated rubbing the back of neck. “What exactly do I have to do?”

“Well what do human females do?”

“Dress up pretty, not pay for the meal, act seductive and then leave you wanting more?”

“So pretty much what a stallion does except for the whole seductive bit?”

“What you don’t think I’m seductive?” Mike joked earning a laugh from the pony.

“Well, as sexy as you think you already are, you should wear something nice tonight; I’m taking you out.” Lyra stated walking out of the room with a small grin.

“Sounds like a plan.” Mike stated giving her a smile, unable to contain his enthusiasm watching the mint green unicorn exit the room. Reaching into his bag Mike removed one his books and slowly began to work on the homework that had been piling up over the past few days still smiling as he imagined what tonight’s had in store for him.

“You have got to be fucking kidding me” Matthias yelled practically throwing his controller onto the table looking on as he watched the final kill cam play on the TV watching as he died in slow-motion due to some lucky shot made by his opponent.

“And that my friend is why you never challenge me at video games.” Rainbow Dash claimed triumphantly getting up and placing her controller next to Matthias’ “Care to play again or is losing four times in a row enough for you today?”Leaning back his head Matthias let out a complaining groan as he rubbed his temples. “I’ll take that as a no.” she said with a giggle. “Good game either way.”

“Yeah, Yeah” Matthias deadpanned leaning up and picking his remote up again.

Over the past few days Rainbow and Matthias had grown considerably closer; in fact he had gotten to know most of his roommates a little more. If he wasn’t gaming with Rainbow Dash or studying with Twilight he spent most of his time listening to music with Vinyl, or going out and running with AJ in the evenings. The only exception had been Fluttershy who had been relatively solitary ever since she moved in only coming in to see him whenever Twilight was doing an examination on him (Which was now only once a week after she began looking at things that required him to take of clothing.)

Even though the whole cross species relationship didn’t bother him as much as it used to, granted while he still wouldn’t be caught dead dating a pony just yet he had no problems being friends with them. Granted the whole cuddling and nuzzling that they would do still creped him out from time to time but it was often nice to just sit down on the couch with one of his roommates as they put their head in his lap allowing him to pet their silky smooth manes at they watched whatever was on the TV, in truth it was oddly relaxing to him.

Suddenly a knock came from the door before it suddenly opened and Mike slowly walked in buttoning up the cuffs on his red long sleeved shirt definitely looking more dressed up than usual. “Hey guys, what’s up?” he asked.

“What’s with the get-up?” Rainbow asked.

“Going on a date tonight, wanted to get a second opinion.”

“Really, who is he?” Matthias asked. “Do I know him?”

Mike shot Matthias a look before Matthias burst into laughter getting up from the sofa and walking into the kitchen. “Actually I wanted a mare’s opinion.” Mike stated. “Rainbow, what do you think good enough for a date?” Mike stated turning around in a small circle for her to contemplate.

“Wait you’ve got a date with a pony?” Matthias asked.

“Heh, yeah, it’s tonight. I wanted to get an opinion on what to wear but Rarity is out, so this was the next best option.” Mike stated rubbing the back of his head. “I’m still not used to being the girl in the situation.”

“Well what you’re wearing is fine, but if you’re trying to really impress her, wear something that matches her coat.” Rainbow instructed. “Also pay attention to what she pays attention to; odds are she’s going to be trying to read your body language to see how you react to things. Oh, and remember this is to figure out if YOU want to court her so she will probably ask you upfront if you want to be her colt friend. Oh and let her pay for whatever, mare’s take it as a sort of lack of interest if you pay for them.”

“Thanks Dash, I really appreciate it.” Mike said. “What about you Matthias, any advice from the only real girl in the room?”

“Put it in a wrapper before you attack her.” Matthias stated earning a small laugh from Rainbow Dash.

“Huh, I was expecting a vagina joke somewhere in there.” Mike stated.

“Eh, I’m done telling vagina jokes, period.” Matthias said retrieving a can of mountain dew from the fridge.  “Besides, I wouldn’t know the first thing about going on dates, I haven’t been on one to know what’s right or wrong, just go get em’ tiger.”

“Well, you’re just a ray of sunshine and helpfulness aren’t you?” Mike said. “Either way, thanks again for the advice guys. I’m going to get changed before she comes.”

“Wait!” Rainbow called from the couch having picked up her controller again. “Who is taking you?”

“Lyra.” Mike stated closing the door as he left the room.

The room fell silent as Matthias starred at the now closed door his friend just exited. “So you’ve never been on a date?” Rainbow asked in disbelief.

“No not really, I wasn’t what you call the most popular kid in high school.” Matthias stated taking a sip of his soda.

“So are you still a virgin?” she asked with a smirk.

“There is a lot of sex talk going on right now isn’t there?”

“You aren’t answering my question.”

“I never said I would.”

“So you’re still a virgin?” she asked getting up off of the couch and began walking over to him.

“I never said that.”

“Well are you or aren’t you.”

“I plead the fifth.” He argued as Rainbow blocked his path

“You know I don’t know your human laws.” She began stepping forward making Matthias back up nervously a small blush was on his cheeks that she could clearly see. “C’mon just tell me.”

“Well you see…” Matthias began trying to find a way out of the situation he found himself in looking from left to right as Rainbow literally backed him into a wall and still approached a small evil looking grin was on her face. Suddenly she got close enough to get back on her back hooves where she was now eye level with the human.

“You know, I could change that.” Rainbow stated leaning closer to Matthias’ face stopping just before their lips met. “You know I don’t mind being the dominant one.”

Matthias could feel her breath on his lips, and as much as his mind told him to “hit the bitch and run”, for some reason he couldn’t bring himself to do it, instead he just closed his eyes and awaited his fate.

Suddenly Rainbow began laughing hysterically as tears began to form from her eyes making Matthias open his eyes to look at her again as she walked back to the sofa. “What the actual fuck Rainbow?” Matthias practically yelled, his cheeks still carrying the hint of his blush.

“What, did you actually want me to take advantage of you?” Rainbow asked with a snicker.  “I thought you were still iffy on the whole human pony thing but if you’re okay with it now…”

“I’d sooner stick my hand in a beehive.” Matthias retorted looking away from Dash as he went towards his room where he shut the door leaving the cyan mare alone in the room with the Xbox still on.

“So I take it that you don’t want another rematch then?”

Mike looked himself over in the mirror yet another time. For whatever reason he wanted to look his best for Lyra, although he couldn’t put his finger on it, there was just something about her that appealed to him. Be it her friendly disposition or her happy go lucky attitude, he couldn’t quite pick just one thing he liked about her, he liked every aspect, and not once did the fact that she was a pony ever really bother him. What bothered him most was being in the woman’s shoes; when it came to dates he was always the one that would pay and treat the women like a princess for the short time they were together. Would he have to let her hold the door for him, let her pull his chair out, and when it came to pay how would she deny him the ability to pay? It was all so unusual to him.

Having changed his shirt to match Lyra’s coat he had to admit, he did look sharp, even though green wasn’t exactly his color. Buttoning the last button on his sleeve he stepped out of his bathroom and looked over to the absent bed that was in his room, it was funny, for whatever reason his elusive roommate had avoided all contact with him, at first it was almost nice to have someone in the room who kept their side clean and orderly, but as time went by and the side practically went untouched looking the same each morning it got a little creepy.

“Hey, looking good, a small voice came from behind Mike. Turning around Mike recognized the gray crossed mare that stood in the doorway smiling at him managing to look extremely cute with her eyes facing two different ways.

“Thanks Ditzy.” Mike smiled as he felt himself blush a little.

“Nervous about tonight?” she asked walking up to him to get a better look at what he was wearing admiring his features that were hidden under his clothes.

“Honestly, yeah.” He admitted scratching the back of his neck.

“Well if it’s any help you look great.” Ditzy said with a small little wink.

“Thanks Ditzy.” Mike blushed as he sat down on the bed. “I guess I’m still just so used to being the one who takes care of everything you know? I’m worried I might mess something up and make Lyra hate me.”

“I doubt that you’re going to make Lyra hate you on your first date, she was way too excited that you said yes today she could barely focus on the homework that’s due tomorrow. “She likes you.”

“Yeah well, honestly the more I think about it, I’m finding I like her too.” Mike admitted.

“Well that’s good, you guys already seem like you’re going to make a great couple, and looking like that you’re bound to get a few glances from a few single mares looking to join a herd.” Ditzy stated.

“Yeah well that’s another thing I’m still not too sure about….” Mike stated. “…Among other things.”

“Well hopefully Lyra will put your mind at ease about that.” Suddenly a knock came from the doorway. “Speak of the devil…”

Walking to the door Ditzy opened up the door to see the eagerly waiting mint green mare now dressed in a tight black dress that hugged her body perfectly showing off her feminine curves rather well traveling to her flank where it split to reveal part of her lyre cutie mark.

“Hey Ditzy, what are you doing in Mikes room?” Lyra asked.

“Checking the big guy over and wishing him luck.” Ditzy stated. “Mike, your mare awaits.”

Taking a final breath Mike stood up and walked into view of the door looking at Lyra for the first time who stared at him with the same kind of surprised look Mike had. Both were speechless as they looked each other over looking over every little detail their clothing offered, admiring what they saw and wondering about what they didn’t. Sure Mike had seen Lyra without clothes before but now seeing her in that tight little dress made him blush profusely.

“So um….” Mike stated unable to find his words. “We have a date tonight.” Smooth Casanova

“Heh…Yeah, are you ready?”

“As ill ever be.” Mike stated as he walked out the door following Lyra as she led him out into the night, walking side by side their sides touched.

Although Mike was nervous he was ready to tackle this as best he could. He liked Lyra, and he was going to do whatever he could to make her happy, and even now, just being with her made any worries he had vanish, he was going to let whatever happened tonight happen, as long as he was with Lyra, he was happy.
