Chapter 8: Departure Time

Departure Time

Play this song and read. I'm a sad genius! (BTW Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy was a great game.)

The next morning, I woke up with Rainbow Dash still sleeping on me. Her cute snoring was blowing on my chest. I put my right hand on her spunky rainbow hair and petted it. She didn't seem to feel it so I just continued.

The next few weeks were excellent. Me and Rainbow were officially in a relationship, she was just irresistible. I simply craved her slender, curvy body, her gorgeous rainbow hair, that beautiful voice, those incredibly seductive magenta eyes, her cute competitive attitude. All of these elements simply made me crazy for her.

I thought we were going to live the rest of our lives in complete harmony. With Rainbow in my arms and me completing my rise back to the throne in the racing scene. I thought everything was going to be fine, but I should've known better.

My mum once told me something. She used to tell me: "Rainbows here one minute and then their gone". What it meant was that good things only last for so long. I remembered her telling me that quote time and time again, and now that quote was about to be applied to my life.

It was a fine afternoon. It was raining but I didn't mind. I was planning on taking Rainbow Dash out to a great spot on a mountain nearby, at night we would get a great view of the city. I planned on taking Rainbow Dash there today but something changed all of that.

It was evening, me and Rainbow were in the room doing one of our... activities. She had rested her head on my chest while I was petting her hair. Eventually I heard the doorbell ring. I got up, got dressed and went to greet our visitor. It was probably Otto coming to give me more news about that '69 Charger I told him to look for.

I opened the door and found a tall slim middle aged woman standing on my porch. She had rainbow hair just like Dashie, but her's was flowing in slow motion like there was wind blowing into them. I felt no sign of wind however. Another thing was that Rainbow's hair was much more... well solid looking. This woman's hair was more translucent.

"Can I help you?" I asked

"Yes, I am in search of miss Rainbow Dash."

I wondered if I should've called the cops. This woman's icy cold stare was starting to freak me out. I stepped aside and let her in. She entered my home and took a seat on the couch (Which was still broken by the way). I took a seat on the recliner and waited.

"Dash! Someone's here to see you."

      "Coming!"

Rainbow Dash emerged from my room. She had put on her cyan blue hoodie and a pair of jeans. She didn't seem to notice the woman yet, instead she walked over and gave me a peck on the cheek.

      "What's up?"

I motioned my head towards the woman who was still sitting there with an annoyed look on her face. Dash panicked and kneeled.

      "Your majesty,"

      "At ease."

Rainbow Dash rose up and took her place sitting on the armrest of my recliner.

      "So, who are you?"

The woman glared at me for a second and answered

      "My name is Princess Celestia."

"Are you like, Dash's mom? 'Cause both of you have the rainbow hair and-"

      "No. We are not related."

      "So, where are you from?"

"I prefer not to talk about it."

"How did Dash get here, I mean she's not from here-"

"I shall not speak about it."

"So, down to business. Why are you here?"

"Simple. I am here to take Rainbow Dash back."

I could feel a sharp pain in my heart. My chest hurt as the woman continued staring at me as if nothing was wrong. I managed to retain my composure and avoided breaking down right in front of them. Rainbow Dash hung her head low. I gulped and stood up. I had decided not to ask Celestia any more questions.

"Sure thing. You wouldn't mind if we took a moment to say goodbye would you?"

      "I do not mind."

I turned my attention to Dashie. She was on the verge of tears by now. I stared into her glassy magenta eyes. Eyes that I probably wouldn't be seeing forever. I brushed a hand though her hair and stared her in the eyes.

"Looks like this is the end of our journey."

"Yep. Goo-" Rainbow Dash managed to croak out

I cut her off before she could finish.

      "Don't say goodbye. Please don't."

      "Why?"

"Because if you don't say goodbye, it means you haven't really left. You're just not here."

I could see Rainbow Dash stare at me with her watery magenta eyes. I embraced her one more last time and gave her one more last kiss, her tears streamed down my face. Celestia seemed to be shifting uncomfortably. I let go of Rainbow and she went to her side.

      "Farewell." Celestia said

Her hand glowed with light. She was about to cast a spell. Before she could, Dash interrupted.

      "Wait!"

Celestia stopped as Dash ran over to the kitchen, grabbed a pen a paper and wrote something. I saw her place her iPhone on the table and she ran back to Celestia's side.

      "I'm ready."

Celestia fired up her hand again and shot a beam of light, it made contact with the wall and soon there was a swirling portal on the wall. Celestia stepped through and Rainbow Dash followed. She turned around at the last second and blew me a kiss before stepping through the portal.

Soon the portal stopped and the house returned to it's once gloomy dark state. I was on the verge of tears. I went to my room and found out that all traces of Dash, the clothes and everything was gone. I let out a huge depressed sigh and walked back to the kitchen. I grabbed Rainbow's iPhone which by miracle was still there. And her note. I didn't read it yet. Instead I folded it and put it in my pocket.

I slumped into the recliner. Wondering what to do. I grabbed my car keys, I had planned to go to the top of the mountain and I sure as hell was going. Dash or no Dash.

I got the BMW's keys and made my way back to the garage. I entered my BMW and drove out the garage. I headed for the mountain. By now it was night, the raining hadn't stopped. I drove towards the mountain. I didn't really focus on anything. In a matter of seconds I found myself on the mountain top.

I stared at the city, shining ever so brightly. I turned on the radio and Coldplay's "Paradise" came on. I didn't exactly hear all the lyrics but two lines caught my attention.

In the night the stormy night, she closed her eyes.

That was when Rainbow first came. I had knocked her out and her eyes had been closed the whole time. And it was raining. Just like now.

In the night the stormy night, away she flies.

That sentence was obviously directed at me. Rainbow Dash had just left minutes ago. The pain was still fresh in my heart. The pitter patter of the rain against my windshield accompanied the music.

I grabbed Rainbow's note and iPhone out of my pocket. I read the note. Here's what it said:

Dear Ryan,

Looks like this is it. The end of our time together. I'm gonna miss you. A lot. Just don't forget me. Check the phone. I left you a farewell gift.

                                                                                                                                                              From, Rainbow Dash

I folded up the note again. I turned on the iPhone. It's lock screen was the classic bubbles, but when I unlocked it, the background changed to me kissing Rainbow.

I didn't remember her ever taking pictures of us together but her gallery told me otherwise. It was filled to the brim with photos of me and Dash. I felt a tear well up in my eye as I browsed through the picture. When I cam across the last one, it was me and Dash, on our last kiss. Her tears streaming down her face. I felt the tear in my eye stream down my cheek and land on the screen.

I locked the iPhone and put it on the passenger's seat. I then slumped in my chair and stared at the night sky as rain continued to pour down.

There was still a lot of things I didn't know about Dash. One of which was where she came from, I didn't know exactly what kind of a past she had. But what I did know was that she was never coming back. And that fact just came back again and again to just beat my emotions to a pulp.

"Thank you, Dash." I whispered as one more tear streamed down my face.
