It was a warm sunny day on the outskirts of Ponyville. The woods roaring with the sounds of nature. Everything was just right. Fluttershy was outside tending to the animals around her home. She had been up since early that morning tending to the needs of her woodland critters. She looked up at the sun and figured that it was just after noon. "Oh goodness, I'm going to be late" she said aloud to herself, forgetting that she had to make a stop into Ponyville soon to get medicine from Dr. Whooves for her animals for the upcoming winter. She quickly finished putting seed in the feeder she was filling and flew off toward Ponyville. She stopped out in front of the doctors office. She walked in through the front door and went up to the desk. The doctor was sitting behind it, reading some documents. "Umm...hello, i am just here to pick up some medicine for my animals, if thats ok" she said quietly to Dr. Whooves, who was still reading his documents. He put the papers down and looked at Fluttershy. "Ah Fluttershy, your here for your wintertime medicine for your woodland critters I presume?" he said to the nervous pony in front of him. "Yes" Fluttershy replied back. " Well, here's your medicine for them, I'm hoping this will suffice?" he said placing a bag full of medicine on the desk next to Fluttershy. "oh yes, this will be plenty, thank you so much" Fluttershy said grabbing the bag. Dr. Whooves nodded in approval then went back to reading his documents.

Fluttershy left the doctors feeling happy. None of my babies are going to get sick this year, she thought to herself. She walked around a corner and saw her friends talking in front of a cart. "Yeah, well I don't see why we should care, so what that she can calm big animals, big deal" she heard Rainbow Dash say to the group. "I know, and she is real mysterious like, if ya ask me; never talking much; I say we hog tie her and send her out on a rope" Applejack said after Rainbow Dash. Fluttershy couldn't believe what she was hearing. She moved up closer and hid behind a wooden crate so she could hear more. Twilight was the next to speak, "Well. she is a very shady pony I'll give you that." "I think we should have nothing to do with that pony, never really liked her anyways" Rarity said to the group. They all nodded in agreement, "then it's settled, we just wont talk to her" Twilight said finally. Fluttershy didn't want to hear anymore. She turned around and left, leaving her friends. "they don't want to talk to me anymore, why?" she said to herself as she walked out of town toward her home. "I never done anything to ever make them want to do that, did I" she said starting to get worked up. She continued to walk home thinking about what she just heard her friends talking about.

She walked into her tree home and slammed the door. She dropped the bag of medicine on the floor where she stood. "They don't want anything to do with me, FINE, let them, I don't need them anyway" She said anger in her voice. Her mind had started to believe that what they said was truly about her. "I don't need them, I don't need anypony" She said as she walked upstairs. She went into her bedroom and lay on her bed. She looked outside, the sun setting over the distant hills. She then stared up at the ceiling, thoughts swirling through her head about her friends laughing at her,mocking her, and ignoring her. Tears started to roll down her cheeks. "what if they never really liked me, what if they just used me and pretended to like me?" she said aloud. Anger suddenly flared through her, "I'm not mysterious, and so what if I calm animals, it's what i do best, they are just jealous." She lay there until it was dark outside thinking about what her so called "friends" said about her. She layed there for a while longer until sleep finally took her.

Fluttershy woke up and started crying. She had a nightmare about her friends. She was sitting on the ground and they were in a circle around her. They were all pointing at her and laughing. "Awww look, little Fluttershy's crying; you should have been called Fluttercry with all the crying you do" Rainbow Dash said mocking her. When she tried to get up they pushed her back down. "Please leave me alone" Fluttershy said to the laughing ponies around her. "What, is Fluttercry going to cry some more if we don't?" Rainbow Dash said down to the crying pony. "You never were my friends, you were just a bunch of bullies" Fluttershy said to Rainbow and the others. "Well, look who finally caught on, it took you long enough" Rainbow Dash replied scoffing. Fluttershy pushed the thought away. "Leave me alone" she said to the thoughts spinning throughout her head. After having that nightmare her mind had made her truly believe that her friends never truly were her friends. "I never want to see them ever again" Fluttershy said aloud with anger rising in her voice. She got off of her bed and went over to get ready to do her daily chores around the grotto, all the while still thinking about the nightmare.

The horrible thoughts never went away as she worked on her chores. It was all she could think about. She never changed her attitude toward her animals though. She still loved them, even if she had thoughts about her friends mocking her, saying she was useless. She didn't want to go to Ponyville anymore, she thought that if she did she would just get picked on. She was safe here at her home, knowing that she couldn't get picked on by them. Her mind has become so clouded that she feels that if she went to Ponyville she would be picked on by Rainbow Dash and the others would just laugh at her for being picked on. The thought of that made her eyes well up with tears. "They never cared for me, never" she said as she gave angel a carrot, which he took into his burrow. She had finished her chores and went into her house. She lay on her sofa. She was exhausted, with the lack of sleep from the previous night and the chores from this morning. She closed her eyes and fell into a light uneasy sleep. When she woke up it was dark outside. "Gosh, I must've needed the sleep" she said as she got up and stretched. She had temporarily forgotten about the horrid thoughts and images. She went up to her room and lay down into her bed and quickly drifted back off into sleep.

END OF CH.1

As the days went on Fluttershy did not change her outlook on what her 'friends' had said. She avoided them as much as possible when she had to go into town. She didn't want to talk to them anymore. She has grown accustomed to being alone with her animals.

Fluttershy was starting to break, her mind being corrupted by thoughts of the other ponies bullying her. She had become cold, angry, and depressed. She was sitting in her house looking out the window. "I need to go get food for angel, he must be hungry" she said as she got to her hooves. She left her grotto and headed off in the direction of Ponyville. She walked into town and up the street. She passed Rainbow Dash, who was eyeballing a new poster of the Wonderbolts. "Fluttershy...hey Fluttershy wait up" Rainbow said as she saw her friend walking up the street. Fluttershy ignored her. "Fluttershy, are you ok, you don't seem to be yourself...come to think of it you haven't been acting like yourself in a while; it seems like your always ignoring us it seems" Rainbow Dash said. Fluttershy was starting to get annoyed, she started to walk faster. Rainbow Dash walked up in front of Fluttershy, blocking her path. Fluttershy stopped and looked at Rainbow Dash, anger flowing through her body. "Get away from me" she said quietly, trying not to let her anger explode out of her. "What, why?" Rainbow Dash asked nicely, trying not to aggravate her friend. Fluttershy tried walking around her, but Rainbow Dash just moved over as well. "I said, GET AWAY FROM ME!" Fluttershy said pushing Rainbow Dash to the side and making her fall on the ground. Fluttershy stood over Rainbow Dash "you and the others leave me alone, i want nothing to do with you anymore." Rainbow Dash got to her hooves "What is wrong with you...why do you want us to stay away from you?" Rainbow asked getting worried for her friend. "Oh, you should know what I'm talking about; your all bullies who use me because you think I'm weak, well I’m not, and I want you to leave me alone” Fluttershy said staring coldly into Rainbow’s eyes. “What are you talking about, we never bullied you or anything; what has gotten into you?” Rainbow Dash said to Fluttershy. “I heard what you all said a week ago outside Sugar Cube Corner; we should just ignore her, never liked her anyways, big deal, she can calm big animals” Fluttershy spat out the words that they said a week ago. Then Fluttershy ran off down the road back towards the outskirts of Ponyville and to her grotto. Rainbow gathered her thoughts and then she realized that she must have been listening in on their conversation about Trixie. Rainbow leapt into the air and sped off toward Twilight’s house.

Rainbow Dash didn’t even knock on the door when she arrived at Twilights house. She ran through the house until she found her in the library. “Twilight, we need to talk about Fluttershy, something is wrong with her” Rainbow Dash said. “Yeah, I’ve noticed that too, she seems distant and seems to be trying to ignore everypony around her” Twilight said putting the book that she was reading back on the podium. “I think I know why she is acting the way she is, when we were talking about Trixie about a week ago, she overheard our conversation and thought we were talking about her” Rainbow Dash said. “I ran into her today and she got really angry with me and said that she wanted nothing to do with us anymore because we are nothing but bullies who use her.” “We would never do such a thing, she is our friend and we love her, her mind just must have made her believe that we are bullies” Twilight said to Rainbow. “Well what are we gonna do?” Rainbow asked Twilight, hoping that she would have the answer. “Well, since you talked to her the most, I suggest you go out to her house and try to reason with her; I will go and get the others and we will come up to help you if she still won’t listen to reason” Twilight said as they started to walk towards the door. “Ok, I’ll go talk to her” Rainbow Dash said. She walked out the door and flew off towards Fluttershy’s home. Twilight watched her go. She started to walk to each of their friends’ houses to inform them of the situation and to get them to come help listen to reason if Rainbow can’t do it by herself.

END OF CH.2

Fluttershy was sitting in her house, thinking about what had happened today. “I want everypony to just leave me alone; why won’t they listen to me?” she said, tears rolling down her face. “I don’t want to go through the rest of my life living like this” She said aloud. She stood up and walked over to a desk on the other side of the room. She grabbed a quill and a piece of parchment. She wrote

To whom it may concern,

I have grown tired of living in this world. My so called ‘friends’ are just a bunch of bullies who pick on me and use me because I’m weak. I don’t want to be around anypony anymore, I just want to be alone.

Sincerely, Flutter-

She stopped writing; tears were streaming down her face. She left the note there and walked over to her kitchen counter. She opened a drawer and pulled out a kitchen knife. She looked at her reflection in the blade. “Soon I will be away from these horrid dreams and ponies” she said as she turned the blade around. Fluttershy lifted her hoof with the blade up and then brought it back down into her heart. Fluttershy retracted the knife and dropped it to the floor. She sat down on the floor and wept. “This is the only way, this is the only way” She kept repeating to herself. Blood was seeping into her coat and running down her chest. “Nopony will miss me, this is for the best” Fluttershy said softly, the loss of blood taking a toll on her. Fluttershy slowly started to drift into and out of consciousness until she finally lay on the floor unmoving.

Rainbow Dash was racing through the trees on the way to Fluttershy’s grotto. She was almost there “C’mon, please don’t let her have done something we will all regret.” Rainbow Dash broke into the clearing where Fluttershy’s home was located; she rushed up to the door and opened it. She looked around and her eyes gazed in horror at what was on the floor. Rainbow Dash ran up to Fluttershy “Fluttershy…Fluttershy, c’mon wake up” she said as she started to cry. “I was too late, I was too late to save her” Rainbow Dash wailed, tears streaming down her cheeks. She sat there and held on to Fluttershy’s body until the others shown up. The group of four ponies walked through the door and all gasped in unison. Rainbow turned her head “I couldn’t save her, she’s killed herself and it’s all my fault” “I could’ve saved her” she said, her voice trailing off. Rainbow Dash slowly got to her hooves and walked out the door. She walked down the forest trail, she didn’t want to fly, and she wanted to be alone. “Applejack, go and comfort her, she needs it” Twilight said solemnly. Applejack nodded and went out the door after her friend leaving the other four to tend to the body.

The four ponies all pitched in and had a tombstone built for their friend. They all stood around Fluttershy’s grave and read the tombstone. It read ‘Fluttershy’ ‘Loved By Her Friends In Life And Death.’ Everypony said their goodbyes and walked away from the grave, leaving Fluttershy behind.

Alternate Ending

Rainbow Dash was rushing towards Fluttershy’s house. She was just on the outskirts of Ponyville now. “Just a little ways further” She said as she started dodging the trees in the forest. ‘I have to get there soon before she does something that she regrets’ Dash thought as she picked up a little more speed. Up ahead she could see the clearing where Fluttershy’s home was. Rainbow Dash gave one last thrust of speed and broke into the clearing. She raced up to the door and opened it. She saw Fluttershy holding a knife in her hoof. “Put the knife down Fluttershy, I don’t want you getting hurt” Rainbow Dash said to the yellow pegasus. Fluttershy looked at her in anger “oh, so now you start to care, I told you I didn’t want to see you and if I have to kill myself to do that I will” she said as she lifted the knife and plunged it into her stomach. Fluttershy fell to the ground clutching her wound. Rainbow Dash rushed over to her. “I’m not gonna let you die on me” Rainbow said as she hefted Fluttershy up onto her back. She rushed outside as fast as she could and took off into the air with Fluttershy on her back. She flew as fast as she could back towards Ponyville, all the while being given smart comments by her injured friend. She flew and landed in front of Dr. Whooves office; she walked up to the door and opened it. “I need a doctor here NOW!!!” she said easing Fluttershy onto the ground. Dr. Whooves came trotting out of the back room. He looked over Fluttershy thoroughly before saying “It’s a good thing she got here when she did, she wouldn’t have lasted much longer.” Fluttershy had passed out by then. Dr. Whooves grabbed a patient bed and wheeled it over. He hefted her up onto the bed and took her into the back room to start surgery. Rainbow Dash sat down. “Now I pray to Celestia that she will be fine” she said.

Fluttershy woke up and looked around. Rainbow Dash was asleep sitting in a lounge chair on the other side of the room. Fluttershy then closed her eyes and fell back asleep. When she woke up again Rainbow was looking at her smiling. “You gave me quite a scare there, for a moment I thought I was going to lose you” Rainbow said. “Why did you save me” Fluttershy asked. “Because we do love you, you are our best friend, and even if you don’t think that we are, we will still always be there for you.” “But what about the things you said in front of-“Rainbow broke her off. “We weren’t talking about you; we were talking about that no good magician Trixie” she said. “I am so sorry, I didn’t mean to say all of those things to you, and I just fooled myself into thinking that you all were something you’re not” Fluttershy said welling up. “Well, don’t worry about that anymore, just get some rest” Rainbow Dash said smiling. “Thank you for all you’ve done” Fluttershy said. “Get some rest” Rainbow Dash repeated. Fluttershy obeyed and lay back down on the bed and drifted off into a deep restful sleep.
