Luna and the moon
Luna walked into her room and sighed, it had been another tiring day at the courts of canterlot. Nobles wanting one thing and the general public wanting another. It was all politics. She turned to her bed and smiled, the one place she could get away from it all. "Sweet dreams to me." She said as she closed her eyes.
She felt like a warm presence of nothingness floating in a sea of white along a meadow, flowers littered the premise as the milky river suddenly dropped into a waterfall. She didn't feel afraid at all, even when the waterfall began to flow upwards.
Each step is moving it's moving me up. Moven it's movin me up! Every step is moving me up!
The flowing river suddenly twisted around to form a sea of white, the sea began shifting as it rose into the sky. The moon stared back at her with a lover's eyes. It beckoned to her like a mate calling her to bed. She felt her very soul drifting up to meet it. In an instant the open air of the meadow as replaced by a corridor, a long winding corridor. Luna heard laughing as she followed the milky trail of white twisting and turning through the hallway. She heard laughing, memories, old memories of Celestia and herself. She continued down the hall as the memories flashed through her mind's eye. One where they were running through the cobblestone halls of their old castle.
Laughing, all of them were laughing. The memories showed all the times Luna had before her imprisonment. The corridor became a staircase, the staircase ascended to a softly glowing stallion in the center of a large library. He smiled as Luna climbed towards him.
Ahh moving me up. Moving it's moving me up. Every step is moving me up.
She climbed and she felt the pounding and longing in her heart as she climbed the never ending stairs. Although the stairs seemed to grow with each step he seemed to come closer.
Each step is moving, it's moving moving me up! Moooving me up. A tiny tiny move. Aah it's all I need and I jump over
As she reached up to the glowing white stallion, she reached out and they embraced. She felt so happy, the whole scene went black and Nightmare Moon's eyes peered back at her as it said.
This is how, we walk on the moon. This is how we walk on the moon. This is how, we walk on the moon,
She felt herself moving, the scene snapped from black to the surface of the moon. She felt herself glide over the moon, craters and valleys passing underneath as Nightmare Moon's eyes seemed to peer at her from afar. The scene shifted again to show Luna looking at Luna looking at Nightmare moon.
A quadruple sided reflection showed a distraught Luna looking at a nightmare moon who was underneath the white stallion. His legs and arms were splayed as the moon illuminated his silhouette. He was floating in mid air like Celestia would when she raised the sun in the Summer Sun Celebration.
Nightmare was cackling evilly but no sound was to be heard.
The scene shifted again to show Luna inside the moon. Her contorted face shown on the moon's surface. She was inside a cage and she banged and cried as the moon floated silently in space. All around her was white all she felt was cold. The stallion came up to her, heartache in his eyes. He reached out a hoof, she reached out a hoof. They touched each other, but instead of physical contact, it felt like touching water, the stallion rippled and so did the whole dream.
It shifted again. Luna became the moon, floating in space surrounded by stars as she orbited the planet of Equestria. The stars seemed to glow and flicker as she silently flew around the planet. Oddly she felt at peace as she rotated the planet she felt whole.
Aah movin me up. Movin, movin me up.
The dream shifted again to show wedding bells. It showed a happy luna hugging the white stallion. The moonbeams coming off of him as he smiled. They kissed.
-----------------------
Luna awoke to find that it was still nighttime. "Pity, that was such a nice dream." She thought to herself as she walked over to the still gleaming stars.
Something caught her attention, it was a small white flickering at the corner of her eye. She quickly turned her attention to her bed stand to find that a white stallion was staring back at her. He smiled briefly before disappearing.
A wind came from the outside, a soft summer's breeze. She saw a bit of white fire leave her bed and travel on that wind, flying up into the night sky.
Into the moon.
Stone
Princess Celestia sighed as she made her way out to stone gardens to pay a visit to an old friend.
Discord sighed in his lonely prison of nothingness. A sudden movement caught his eye.
Celestia put a hoof to the statue.
Discord felt his heart tear as he put a claw to her hoof.
"Why? Why Discord?" She whispered as tears started forming.
He shut his eyes as tears threatened to overwhelm him.
"Why Celestia?" He whispered back.
He let the sadness overtake him as he remembered
A memory of them by a moonlit river, kissing under the twilight glow.
You've applied the pressure, to have me crystalized
Another memory of Celestia's mother finding the two in her bedroom. He remembered the screams as her mother berated her. Celestia screaming back at her.
And you've got the faith that I could bring paradise
The two of them walking through the Everfree forest. Celestia glancing over to him as she leaned in for a kiss. The memory of her soft lips meeting his.
I'll forgive and forget. Before I'm paralyzed. Do I have to keep up this pace, to keep you satisfied?
The two of them arguing. Discord screaming as he tried to tell her that they could run away together. She screamed that her life was here and that she was destined to rule. He remembered storming out, he could still hear her sobbing as he left her.
"I'm so sorry Celestia." He said in his prison, his claw still extended touching Celestia's hoof through the barrier. "Discord if only I had listened." She whispered to the statue, tears freely flowing down her face.
Aaah [4x]
The two cried silently as the prison kept them separate.
You don't move slow, taking steps in my direction. The sound resounds and echoes.
Celestia coming to see him in the royal dungeon. He remembered he had been captured and locked away because he had practiced the art of chaos in a village called Trottingham.
He remembered her coming closer and closer, her hoof fall was the only sound in the large dingy room. "Celestia, how nice of you to drop by." He spat, venom dripping from his voice.
Does it lessen your affection?
He remembered her opening the steel bar door that separated the two. She ran to him and gave him a hug as she cried into his arms. The two lovers embracing and crying letting out their pent up emotions.
No.
You say I'm foolish, for pushing this aside. But burn down our home, I won't leave alive.
He remembered another time they argued. Celestia begging for him to live in Canterlot and stay with her, he refused adamantly. He saw himself, a younger him screaming at Celestia who in turn was now crying on the floor. "I'VE SEEN THOSE PONIES LOOK AT ME! I'VE SEEN THE WAY THEY LOOK AT US! CELESTIA I'M DOING THIS FOR YOUR OWN GOOD!" His younger self said as it stormed out of the castle for good.
Glaciers have melted into the sea, I wish the tide would take me over.
Another memory, this time he remembered sitting on a throne as he watched his chaotic magic warp the town of Stalliongard. He remembered feeling cold, irritated and annoyed. Buffalos in tutus dancing around the town as it flipped upside down then back again. "I miss her" He thought hollowly as he watched his chaotic domain.
I've been down on my knees
A final memory before his imprisonment. It wasn't long after he had occupied Stalliongard, Celestia had come to take care of him. As he keeled over on his knees unable to get up due to the sheer stress toll taken his body had taken after he had used immense magical power in dueling Celestia. As the elements whizzed faster and faster in a circle, he looked up to see Princess Celestia walking over to where he sat.
And you just keep on getting closer.
She hugged him as the elements froze his body in stone, tears landing on his face as she cried.
Aaah [4x]
He opened his eyes to find that Celestia had fallen asleep against his stone statue, her chest rising and falling steadily as she dreamed. "Goodnight Celestia." He said, he felt warm inside for once. He began feeling sleepy himself as he closed his eyes.
Waiting on the world to change
"C'mon Sweetie Belle! We're gonna be late!" Called Scootaloo into the open window of Carousel Boutique. In response both Applebloom and Scootaloo could hear scampering of hooves on floor.
"I'm here! I'm here!" Called a frazzled Sweetie Belle as she ran out the front door. The trio began walking through Ponyville.
[Percussion] One, two, one two. One two three
"So what are we gonna do next?" Asked Scootaloo as they walked along. "There go the cutie mark crusaders again." The trio heard after they passed an elderly couple.
Me and all my friends, we're all misunderstood. They say we stand for nothing and, there's no way we ever could!
"Man how I would just like ta-" Applebloom was cut off as the trio walking into the town proper with all it's shops and ponies. "What in the hay is that?" Asked Sweetie Belle as a raging buffalo suddenly burst out of the side of sugar cube corner. The three watched it go as a frazzled looking Applejack and Twilight chased after it. "Man have they got their hooves full." Chimed Scootaloo as they saw Applejack try and wrangle it. "Think we should help?" Asked Applebloom, to this Sweetie sighed. "What's the point? All we ever do is get in the way." She said dejectedly. "Hey now Sweetie don't get your tail in a knot." Said a joking Scootaloo lightening the mood considerably.
Now we see everything thats going wrong, with the world and those who lead it. Just feel like we don't have the means, to rise up and beat it!
The three continued along their way joking and jeering and just being them as they walked onwards, their destination unknown.
So we keep a waiting. [Waiting!] Waiting on the world to change! We keep on waiting! [Waiting!] Waiting on the world to change!
As the three continued, Applejack burst onto the path and swore. "Dagum buffalo stampeding!" She muttered as she dusted her hat off. "Sis are you sure we cain't help?" Asked Applebloom with her big pleading eyes. Applejack just gave them all a concerned stare. "Now ah appreciate yur offer but I just cain't let y'all hurt yerselves." She lied, it was obvious to all when she lied as she started looking around frantically as if there was a spy in their midst. "Well anyway I gotta go! Catch you girls later!" She called as she jumped back into the brush.
It's hard to be persistent when we're standing at a distance! So we a waiting [waiting!] Waiting on the world to change!
"Oh well, hey guys can we stop by the cemetery real quick?" Asked Scootaloo as they continued along their path. "Sure thing Scoots." Replied Applebloom putting a reassuring hoof to the filly's shoulder, Scootaloo in turn gave her a sheepish grin.
The trio proceeded onto the small cemetery on the hill overlooking Ponyville square. The normally happy-go-lucky trio had gone quiet as they made their way over to a very specific marble grave.
Here lies Motors; A mother and friend.
It read, the words carved into the marble.
Now if we had the power! To bring our neighbors home from war! They would've never missed a christmas@ No more on their door!
It had been a hard loss for the peaceful Ponyville when it was reported that Motors had been killed in a border dispute with the Zebras. Scootaloo took it the hardest since she was her daughter. She died being rushed to the hospital after they couldn't find any donors on the battlefield, Scotaloo had watched her mother pass before her very eyes, a slow death.
When ya trust your television! What ya get is what'cha got! Cuz when they own the information oh~ they can bend it all they want!
"It's just not fair!" She cried, the media had criticized the motley recruits from Ponyville after the incident. Claiming they were 'not adequately trained'. Of course it was a load of bull but the masses bought into it because it was the only explanation to why an entire village of Zebras had assaulted roughly 50 ponies.
Is why we're waiting! [Waiting] Waiting on the world to change! We keep on waiting! [Waiting!] Waiting on the world to change.
The trio made their way back in a somber silence until Scootaloo jumped up. "Oh! I have an idea! We could be Cutie Mark Crusader [insert random and hilarious crusader reference here]. Happy at their friend's sudden lift of spirits, Sweetie Belle and Applebloom smiled. "That's a great idea Scoots!" Replied Applebloom with gusto. "Now how are we gonna pull that off?" Asked a more reasonable Sweetie Belle at her friend's suggestion.
It's not that we care! We just know that the fight ain't fair! So we keep on waiting! [Waiting!] Waiting on the world to change.
Musical interlude.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The three friends ran back into town covered in tree sap but laughing as they reveled in their latest crusade. "You should have seen the look on your face!" Laughed Sweetie Belle as she taunted Scootaloo. "Pft hah! Like you were any better!" She leered back, at this Sweetie gave her a playful nudge.
We still waiting! [Waiting!] Waiting on the world to change! We keep on waiting! [Waiting!] Waiting on the world to change!
"Man, I wonder what our cutie marks are gonna be." Wondered Applebloom out loud. "Whatever they are, they're gonna rock!" Exclaimed Scootaloo detaching herself from the sticky mess she had created with Sweetie Belle. "Sure are! I hope we're gonna be super famous!" Shrieked Sweetie Belle, at this the three friends started giggling and then laughing.
One day our generation! Is gonna rule the population! So we keep on a waiting! [Waiting!] Waiting on the world to change! No we keep on waiting! [Waiting] Waiting on the world to change! We keep on waiting! [Waiting] Waiting on the world to change! Waiting on the world to change! Waiting on the world to change! Waiting on the world to change!
The three friends made their way to their individual homes, saying their goodbyes as they dropped off. Scootaloo made her way to her lonely little house at the edge of Ponyville and sighed as she climbed into bed. "Man I'm tired of waiting" She said before dropping off to sleep.
(A/N: Due to my sheer lack of good music in my library I would like suggestions for music to play! PM or post in the comments below if you think you got a good song! And thanks for dropping by!)
I know i'll go crazy If I don't go crazy tonight
Pinkie sat in the gloom of her one bedroom apartment above sugarcube corner. Tossing and turning in a fruitless effort for sleep she decided to head outside for a walk.
She found herself thinking of her.
She's a Rainbow and she loves the peaceful life. Knows i'll go crazy if I don't go crazy tonight.
She walked on through the streets of Ponyville, stopping around to say high. She felt heavy as her heart longed for that cyan mare. "You know what? I should probably confess to her right? I mean i'll at least have it off my chest!" Thought one half of her brain, her mane inflated at this notion. "What if your rejected though?" Asked that small voice, almost small enough that she overlooked it.
Everybody needs to cry or needs to spit, every sweet tooth needs just a little hit. Every beauty needs to go out with an idiot. How can you stand next to the truth and not see it? Oh a change of heart comes slow.
Pinkie Pie...was not the absolute best at keeping her own secrets. Sure she was a master of others but not her own. Everypony could see how she blushed when that certain mare came around, how she always seemed to have an extra pep in her step as the two went around town either talking or pranking. Everypony knew that the time was long overdue that she confessed.
Pinkie took a deep breath "now or never." She decided with finality, as if to back up her decision she picked up her pace until she was sprinting towards her love's home.
It's not a hill it's a mountain! As you start out the climb! Do you believe me or are you doubtin'? We're gonna make it all the way to the light. But I know i'll go crazy if I don't go crazy tonight!
She ran and ran not thinking about anything else.
Every generation gets a chance to rule the world. Pity the nation what won't listen to your boys and girls. Because the sweetest melody is the we haven't heard. Is it true that perfect love drives out all fear?
Ever since the day Pinkie had met Rainbow she had felt....happy. Not Pinkie happy but....life happy. She just felt happy doing anything be it baking or walking or going out with friends. Before she was scared about everything how everypony seemed to scoff at her natural color of pink and of her constant party mentality. Nopony accepted her with crazy attitude and she was too scared to try and change their minds.
That was until she met that one rainbow mare. She remembered meeting her on the first day of school, how they instantly clicked together and shared laughs and tears. Through thick and thin from break-ups to get togethers. They formed their own little group in the whole school hierarchy and stuck it out.
The right to be ridiculous is something I hold dear.
It was through her that she finally opened up to the little town and became who she was today. It was through Rainbow's cheering as a friend that she finally got the nerve to throw her first party. And it had been a spectacular mess and success.
Oh but a change of heart comes slow.
Pinkie gasped for air as she approached her destination, the large Cloudhouse loomed above her. "Now or never." She thought one last time before her whole thinking, reasoning, and sensible side of her brain shut down.
"RAINBOW DASH!" She shouted up to the cloudhouse.
It's not a hill it's a mountain! As you start out the climb. Listen for me I'll be shouting! But we're gonna make it all the way to the light! But I know i'll go crazy if I don't go crazy tonight!
As soon as those two words left her mouth the mare of her long standing crush appeared. Even though Pinkie's mind decided to take a holiday after she uttered those words she still felt a deep sense of dread as the tell-tale rainbow streak touched down in front of her.
Pinkie saw her lips moving but she didn't hear the words, all she saw were those huge mulberry eyes as they tilted with her head, the mouth asking a question.
"D-D-Dashie! I have something to tell you!" She began, the dread worsening by the second. "I....I....I L-L" She started but soon took a deep breath.
"Dashie I love-" she felt herself cut off as two pairs of cyan legs wrapped themselves around her, a set of cyan lips touch her own. She blinked in surprise to find that those big magenta eyes were now closed, tears streaking down her face. Pinkie felt her heart leap into her throat, returning the passion she quickly wrapped her forelegs around Dash's and pulled her in closer.
Baby,baby,baby! I know I'm not alone!
Pinkie couldn't get any happier until she felt herself lifted up into mid air. Breaking the kiss she looked around to find out two things; 1. The couple was now suspended in mid air due to Rainbow Dash, 2. It was night which only added to the romance.
The stars glittered in approval as the two re-engaged in their kiss, now surrounded by a twinkling symphony of non-sound.
Baby, baby, baby! I know i'm not alone! Ha! Ha! Ha!
This time the two love-birds pulled out of their kiss due to lack of oxygen. As they panted for air they looked into each other's eyes. The duo couldn't be happier as Rainbow Dash threw Pinkie on her back and started sailing through the air shouting her happiness for all those still awake to hear.
Guitar Solo
They sped through the night time over Ponyville and it's surrounding areas, Dash screaming her lungs out with a huge smile plastered on her face. Pinkie looked at the stars with an even bigger smile plastered on her face. They passed over forests and hills, eventually coming to a mountain.
It's not a hill it's a mountain! As you start out the climb! Listen for me i'll be shouting! Let's shout into the darkness! Squeeze out sparks of light!
Dash smirked as the mountain approached and vertically sailed it, barely flying over the steep rock. Pinkie was on her back, whooping and screaming in fear and happiness.
You know we'll go crazy!
You know we'll go crazy!
You know we'll go crazy!
You know we'll go crazy if we don't go crazy tonight!
The two reached the very top of the mountain, each panting from their own strenuous activity. Pinkie however couldn't be happier as they cuddled in each other's embrace, looking over the magnificent view the mountain offered. She uttered a content little squeal and closed her eyes, shifting a bit to go gain a more comfortable position.
All was right in her world.
Lament of the sun
Celestia closed the door of her sister's bedroom with a smile. It was so good to see her sister's sleeping form from her blue mane and her cute little snout. She smiled sadly as she remembered.
Her mane shined with iridescence as she rembered
"Luna! Please! Please, please don't leave me!" Cried Celestia as she unknowingly cast the elements of harmony on her sister. "Sis! Please help me! Please!" Cried Luna as Nightmare Moon receded and left her. "Luna please come back please!" Shouted Celestia to the now receding rainbow as it raced to the moon.
A cry echoed through the night as Celestia sat in what was once the main hall of the Grand Castle within the Everfree forest, whole sections of wall were missing, evidence of the fight the two sisters had.
When you were standing in the wake of Devastation.
She looked at the moon with tears in her eyes, too sad to cry, too heartbroken to feel. "What happens next?" She asked the still night, it replied with solemnity of silence as she just sat there.
When you were waiting on the edge of the unknown.
The adrenaline of the fight left her body as the strain of casting the elements finally caught up to her. She gripped her side in pain and screeched writhing on the floor crying out in pain. She was still in shock from what she had just done, as she lay there screaming in pain, she desperately tried muffling a growing scream in her mind. The debris from the roof and walls started collapsing as the whole castle seemed to fall apart around her.
And with the cataclysm raining down, insides crying save me now. You where there impossibly alone.
After an hour of pain, she got up, the tears drying on her eyes as she started limping forward. Her mind too filled to even begin to process thought into words. She limped forward onto the road leading from the castle to the fledgling town of Ponyville.
Do you feel cold and lost in desperation? You build up hope, but failures all you've known.
As she walked her mind began working again and the first thoughts that entered her mind was that of little Luna. How she always looked up to Celestia with her big sparkling green eyes.
"Shiny! Shiny! Look what I found!" Said a much smaller Luna as she levitated a struggling frog up to her sister who laughed.
"Stop it." Said Celestia as the ghost giggles resounded through her skull.
Remember all the sadness and frustration, and let it go! Let it go!
"Stop it, stop it, stop it, stop it, stop it." She whispered over and over again as she walked onwards trying desperately to escape from her mind and her deed. Suddenly she looked up as a massive explosion of white sparkled in the night sky, temporarily making the stars invisible. Celestia lifted her face to the moon, that did it for her.
And in a burst of light that blinded every angel. As if the sky had blown the heavens into stars.
All the memories the shock had been holding back shot forward in her mind.
Celestia had been groomed from an early age to face hardship and make the tough choices that a ruler had to make, that included banishing one's sister.
"LUNA!" She screamed into the hollow night collapsing onto the road and weeping openly. "Why!?!? Why?!? Wh?!? Why?!?" She asked over and over and over again as she propped herself up on a nearby stump of wood as she cried and cried until there was just an empty hollow feeling inside.
You felt the gravity of tempered grace, falling into empty space. No one there to catch you in their arms.
She cried and cried and cried until her throat was raw and her eyes red and bloodshot. And still she cried until her voice was nothing but a shrill fleshy sound. And still she cried until her throat finally closed up.
Do you feel cold and lost in desperation? You build up hope but failures all you've known? Remember all the sadness and frustration! And let it gooooooo ooooh! Let it go!
[guitar solo]
She trotted onwards until she saw another flash of light, this time the stars seemed to shine a bit brighter. They glistened as if they were teardrops shed by the night.
[chorus] Do you feel cold and lost in desperation? You build up hope but failures all you've know!
Despite everything, Celestia smiled a bit. "Luna....oh my little Luna....the guiding stars of my life. Please....someday please come back to me." She whispered as her tear ducts produced one last smatter of liquid. A single tear from her left eye worked it's way down her stout and fell onto the ground.
[chorus] Let it gooooooooo ohhh ohh!
She galloped onwards, away from the castle with a heavy yet lightened heart. She shouted into the night sky. "I'll make sure i'm the best princess Equestria's ever seen!"
Let it go!
"I'll make sure that everypony sees your night!
Let it go!
"I'll make sure that nopony ever feels alone and sad ever again!
Let it go!
"I'll make sure everypony grows up happy and healthy!"
Let it go!
"I'll make sure you never have to suffer again so please come back to me!" She shouted to the night hoping that somehow it reached the moon.
Do you feel cold and lost in desperation, you build up hope but failure's all you've known? Remember all the sadness and frustration! And let it go!
"COME BACK TO ME LUNA!!!" She echoed into the night with the last of her breath.
==============================================================================================
Celestia sighed as she remembered the night as if it was yesterday. Behind her she heard the doors of her sister's bedroom open and close. "Sister?" Asked a sleepy Luna, rubbing her eyes with a hoof. Celestia quietly made her way over and hugged her with her forehooves and wings. Luna didn't respond in language of mouth, but in language of body.
The two embraced underneath the moonlight, the silverly ball cast a soft glow on the sisters as they shed tears long since lost.
G'DAY!
How to save a life
Twilight sighed as she threw the black veil off of her face. Feeling empty, she decided to get a sandwich and just laze around.
As she fixed her sandwich, she couldn't help but run into the syringe. She had bought it a couple months ago for Spike as a way to easily ingest liquid gems.
It had proved to be highly addicting, causing Spike to have fits and spasm after the initial high. She drew all the shudders and drapes closed so only a little bit of light got into the library. She sighed again as she took a seat on the couch and pulled out a picture of Spike, in the picture he was laughing as he sat on the immense pile of jewels found after the Diamond Dog excursion.
She still remembered the intervention
"Don't worry dear, everything will be fine." Reassured Rarity as she put a hoof to the fretting Twilight Sparkle. Twilight smiled a bit as all her friends gathered close to give her a hug, bracing themselves for the upcoming confrontation.
"We're all here for ya sugarcube." Comforted Applejack as they heard the door click as it opened.
Step one, you say we need to talk. He walks, you say sit down it's just a talk. He smiles politely back at you, you stare politely back right on through.
"What's this about?" Asked a pale red-eyed Spike.
".......Spike, look I know what you've been doing." Started Twilight after a short pause, her eyes closed as she waited for a response. Spike just stared at her with his sunken eyes.
Some sort of window to your right. As he goes left and you stay right between the lines, of fear and blame, you begin to wonder why you came.
"Oh? And tell me Twilight, what am I doing?" He snapped back with a smug grin on his face.
"Now don't you dare talk ta Twilight like that! She raised you from an egg by herself!" Shouted Applejack as Twilight silently began to cry.
"This means she instantly has all control over my life?" He snapped back, his response as cold as ever.
"No darling! It just means she's looking out for what's best for you." Interjected Rarity. Pinkie and Fluttershy couldn't come because they were too busy taking care of Gummy after Spike had lashed out at him claiming that 'that lizard was looking at him funny'.
Twilight began to silently cry, her hooves covering her eyes.
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend.
Spike looked over at Twilight and snorted while crossing his arms. "I don't think a mare who can't even get herself together can be called a 'guardian'." He said making air quotes. Rarity had to magically restrain Applejack from making his way over and kicking Spike's flank.
Rainbow couldn't come because Spike had burned her wings badly a couple weeks back after she reprimanded him for his constant high and drug abuse. In a fit of rage he lit the cerulean mare on fire, 3 degree burns now covered most of her body. She was still in a medical induced comma recovering from her injuries.
Somewhere along in the bitterness. And I would have stayed up, with you all night had I known how to save a life!
"What happened to you Spike? You used to be such a nice young dragon, what happened to you?" Asked Rarity trying to get through to the baby dragon.
"I grew up Rare." He snarled back barely hiding his anger.
"It's all that thing's fault!" Shouted Applejack, her hooves still cupped to the floor by Rarity's magic.
Twilight finally stopped sniffing and looked up at Spike who was sitting across the table. "Spike why? How? I don't...I don't know what to do anymore." She sniffed, her voice barely above a whisper. "Spike if something's bothering you, you know you can come talk to us! Please don't turn to that thing! It's only making you worse don't you see?" She asked pleadingly, her voice picking up volume.
"It's tearing you apart from the inside! It's tearing all of us apart!" She nearly shouted. He just shrugged.
"Spike ever since day on that thing you've been nothing but irritable and disrespectable!" She screamed.
Let him know that you know best because after all you do know best.
Twilight never yelled as loudly as she did now, it even caught Spike off guard as he slunk back in his seat. "Spike! Your having constant fits and spasms because of that drug! It's destroying your nerves system as well as your brain cells! Don't you see it's killing you from the inside out!" She screamed, all the sadness and frustration pouring out.
Lay down a list of what is wrong. Things you've told him all along and I pray to god he hears you! I pray to god he hears you!
"So what!?!" He roared back smacking his claw on the table silencing the lavender mare.
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend somewhere along in the bitterness. And I would have stayed up with you all night, had I known how to save a life.
"Don't you think that I could do what I want with my own damn body!?!" She screamed as the mares retreated away from the dragon.
"Spike please listen to us, we know what we're doing. Please just let us help you." Said Twilight, her eyes closed as she struggled to contain her emotions.
As he begins to raise his voice, you lower yours, grant him one last choice.
Drive until you lose the road, a break with the ones you've followed.
"Spike please listen to me." Said Twilight reaching a hoof out to the now calmed dragon.
He will do one of two things; he will admit to everything. Or he'll say he's just not the same.
"You know what Twilight? I looked up to you once." He said sneering a bit, his voice as cold as ice as he shrugged away her hoof.
"I used to be your little 'spikey-wikey'." He said putting particular emphasize on those two words as he looked at Rarity. "Yeah I used to be all nice and froo-froo, but then you all took advantage of me. Rarity you only used me when you needed help and Applejack? You only saw what was on the outside! You only saw what I put up!" He shouted getting up.
Twilight returned her head to her hooves and sobbed quietly as Rarity, Applejack, and Spike flew into a shouting match. The voices mixing together into one as she felt the hot tears sliding down her face.
And you'll begin to wonder why you came! Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend, somewhere along in the bitterness and I would have stayed up, with you all night, had I known how to save a life.
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend, somewhere along in the bitterness and I would have stayed up with you all night, had I known how to save a life.
Their words were lost on Twilight as she remembered Spike when he was younger. The world seemed to slow down as she smiled a bit, the here and now faded until she was looking at a newborn Spike still asleep.
How to save a life
She remembered how he toddled around in the playroom and seemed to stare at everything with wonder.
How to save a life.
She felt new tears as she rembered how he always clung to her.
She remebered when he called her mommy.
That did it for her, the last dam holding her tears. She sobbed and wept openly for everypony to see as she charged out of the house. She could hear them screaming and yelling as she ran into the night, it was too much for her.
IWhere did I go wrong? I lost a friend. Somewhere along in the bitterness and I would have stayed up with you all night. Had I known, how to save a life.
(A/N: Don't worry, less depressing chapters later, now excuse me while I take my anti-depressent pills)
She ran on and on in a full gallop, all she wanted was to be away, away from everything in her life.
Where did I go wrong? I lost a friend, somewhere along in the bitterness and I would have stayed up with you all night. Had I known, how to save a life.
Images of Spike as a tiny, baby crawling around. Images of his wide sparkling eyes. Memories assaulted her as she ran on, her head down and tears freely streaking.
How to save a life.
"Where did my Spike go?" She whispered into the night as she leaned against from exhaustion. She closed her eyes for a moment as she rested, eventually falling asleep.
They found him a week later OD'd in an alley behind Sugarcube corner. The funeral had been long and drawn out as each of the mane 6 and his friends wrote speeches on his life before the drugs.
Twilight sighed again as dust motes floated through the air, illuminated by the thin rays of sunlight coming through the closed library.
Twilight put a hoof against the picture of Spike and sighed, all of her tears had been shed before, now there was just emptiness. "Where did I go wrong Spike?" She asked the picture as she traced her hoof over Spike's two-dimentional figure.
"You'll always be my little froo-froo spikey-wikey." She said as she put the picture in a cupboard, all she wanted was sleep now.
Somewhere I can see you again
Berry Punch felt the warm liquor make it's way down her throat. She wrapped the moth eaten blanket tightly around her as she huddled in the alley.
"Buck." She muttered emptily as she looked up into the gray sky. Smiling a bit, she began to laugh. A laugh of somepony who's given up. She looked down at the now empty bottle of brandy. A slow feeling of emptiness started to make it's presence known as the rain pattered.
Exile, it takes your mind. Again.
Berry leaned against the grimy wall of the alley. The feeling of depression worming it's way through her. All she could remember was her. She seemed to be in every nook and cranny of Berry's thoughts. The rain continued to patter, Berry didn't even bother to cover herself, she let the rain wash over her. And hide her tears.
Exile, it takes your mind. Again.
She still remembered, she remembered everything. The scenes played out like old movie reels in her half hazy mind. The alcohol kept it away, that's why she drank until she couldn't stand.
You've got sucker's luck, have you given up.
Berry still remembered her, she was always there for Berry whenever she got into an argument or a scuffle. Back then she just drank for the fun of it. She drank to live back then. Now, she drank to keep the pain away. She drank to haze the memories that burned like fog lights in the mist. That dimmed her thoughts and misted her eyes. "You know what they say, never take anything for granted." Berry wistfully said bottoming out the hard drink. Due to her chronic alcoholism, she could barely feel the burn as the drink settled. "Well, I guess it's time to say goodbye." She said, her voice taut with exertion as she lifted herself up and made her way out of the alley into the darkened light. The light rain pattered on.
Does it feel like a trial? Does it trouble your mind the way you trouble mine?
All around her everything was wilted and gray, like her soul. The light had left with her.
Exile, it takes your mind. Again.
Exile, it takes your mind. Again.
As she walked past the stores, all Berry could see was her. From the flower stop where Berry first proposed her love. To Little Sae's where they had their first date. All she heard was her laughter, all she heard was her voice like tinkling bells in the whimsical summer breeze. Light and soft like a baby's bottom.
Oh you meant so much.
As she walked she kept her head down, all her ghosts crept out of her closet and danced around her. Suddenly Berry looked up, right into the eyes of her love. Her eyes reflected their question. This was the exact spot. The exact spot where they first met. Berry was being bullied when she came into her life. She still remembered her eyes. Twin pieces of motherly protection and worry. Once upon a time they used to comfort Berry, make her smile. Now they just ask.
Have you given up?
Berry walked onwards, the pain became unbearable, Berry's lips began to quiver as her silent cries became keens.
Does it feel like a trial?
"Why can't I let you go? Celestia it's been two years already. Why?" She whispered, voicing the thoughts that had been eating her from the inside out. Everywhere she turned, she was there. From the flowers she smelled to the ground she walked upon. Berry just couldn't get rid of her.
Does it trouble your mind the way you trouble mine?
"Please stop." She lowered her head further, now she was auto-pilot as she walked through the muck. The rain pattered on. Suddenly Berry heard a scream. She shuddered and shut her eyes willing this particular memory away, but it came. It came like a typhoon. With all the power and unrelenting force of a tornado it came into her mind unbidden by her cries of mercy.
It was one faithful day when the two where walking. Suddenly a stallion came out of nowhere shouting incoherently. A madman. Berry was knocked aside as the stallion charged. His target set, he took out a small pistol with his magic and-
BOOM!
Berry stopped in her tracks, her mind frozen. "Stop it." She said in a shattered voice. Her love's lifeless eyes, the shouts and screams, the ambulance. The sterilized hallways, the intravenous drip. The heart monitoring machine going flat. "Stop it."
Visiting her love in the coming days, the BPM steady as her love slept in the eternal dream. Day after day the same thing. Visiting, falling asleep, getting shoed out. Going home to repeat.
Berry took a deep breath and stopped trying to block the images and memories. And like the opening of floodgates, they came in torrents. Happy moments, sad moments, funny moments, scary moments. All of these moments plucked from the ever changing river of time and stored in her mind. Lovingly taken care of like books by her librarian, her heart. Every moment they spent together was golden beyond value. Berry smiled with them, cried with them, laughed with them all. They played like movie reels and she was the sole audience.
She held her head high as she made her way to her destination. One could melodramatically call it her final destination.
Now you're thinking too fast, you're like marbles on glass.
She continued walking as the rain tapered off. The sun started to poke through the clouds as they dispersed finally empty of their burdens. Berry looked up at the clouds and godrays coming through and thought "someday I want to be a cloud." She smiled at the notion and continued walking. The town of Ponyville took on an artistic calm in the fading golden light, the puddles and businesses seemed to glow in quiet. Sentinels to her thoughts.
Berry felt at peace, something she hadn't felt for the longest time. She had felt some measure of it when she forgave the madman.
Vilify, don't even try.
It was like the burden on her soul was lifted, like she was a pegasus finally breaking through the other side of the storm. And now that she was on top of the storm cloud she looked down on those years spent in misery and laughed at them. All the sadness and loneliness transformed into an almost foalish giddiness.
Vilify, don't even try.
Finally she arrived. It was late afternoon and the sun was going down but she made it, through the ghosts and rain and the pain she made it. She walked through the rows of sleeping and found the one she was looking for.
She smiled taking in the details of her love. The picture was one of three smiling sunflowers, her cutie mark. The inscription read; While you're gone from out lives, you will never be gone from our hearts.
"Hey dove." She said finally sitting down and letting out a groan. "It's been a while hasn't it?" She asked, she wasn't expecting an answer and was greeted as such. She glanced over to her love to discover a small family of squirrels living in her shade. Berry laughed. "Still caring for others even now huh?" She said wistfully looking up to the clouds, the sun was setting behind the green hills, it illuminated the clouds like big golden beasts riding through the azure.
"Lemme tell you these last two years haven't exactly been easy on me." She began, even though the emotional roller coaster had ended she still felt a sort of finality settle over her as she talked. She was finally able to say the things she had held back in life. All the things that had kept her away. All the things that had kept her from passing on.
You've got sucker's luck. Have you given up? Does it feel like a trial? Does it trouble your mind the way you trouble mine?
Finally she ended, her entire life story, everything she had ever done was prostrated in front of her. Her love didn't say anything as she stayed there stoic and quiet. Berry felt happy and tired at the same time. Tired was a new feeling for her. For a moment she sat there surprised but soon quickly got over it.
Does it feel like a trial?
Finally. As the two sat there, Berry turned to her love. "You know? All this time I've kept asking myself 'Why'? And now? hah, now I don't care anymore." She said illustrating with her hooves.
Did you fall for the same empty answers again?
Berry just sat there, for the longest time she had blamed everything and everyone. For everything. She blamed Princess Celestia for not intervening, she blamed the mane 6 for not doing something with their Elements. But now as she felt the sleepiness overtake her, she let it all go.
Vilify, don't even try.[2X]
Finally everything was said and done. Berry looked down in mock surprise but soon smiled and turned to her love. "Goodbye, and thank you." She said before letting the waves of sleep overtake her.
Vilify
==================================================================================================
Cheerilee awoke with a start. "Wa? Wa? Who?" She stuttered before regaining her composure. She looked around but was met with the same scenery that had bid her sleep before. Cheerilee rubbed her head with a hoof, confused. The trees rustled in the breeze as she shook her head again. She could have sworn she heard a voice. "....Berry? Is that you?" She tried, her voice taut with anxiety and worry. Nothing returned her call. It seemed whatever it was passed.
She looked at the grave again. A picture of a bundle of grapes and a strawberry stared back at her. She smiled sadly as she placed some flowers. Suddenly the wind picked up again and she heard it in the breeze.
"Goodbye, and thank you."
Cheerilee felt tears sting her cheeks and blur her vision as she turned and walked away.
"You're welcome." She whispered back.
All I need
(A/N: Where the hell is the Dinky Doo tag?)
Ditzy felt herself surface from the dreaming world. Sighing she just sat in her bed as the birds chirped and her Ventian Blinds slanted, the sunlight giving her room a darkened look to it.
She felt her heart sink, another day, another chance of getting ridiculed, sneered at. She lazily began moving her back hooves in the silky cloud. Unwilling to get out of bed she continued to stare at her ceiling.
It's early in the morning
She tried going back to sleep, but the sun seemed to pester her as it attempted to light up the inside of her house. Grumbling and irritated she slowly made her way out of the cozy embrace of her bed.
I'm laughing at the sun
She apathetically shook her mane to get out most of the frizz and knots, outside she could hear the subdued sounds of life. Muted giggles and the constant sound of hoof fall stated that evidently she had slept in. Snorting a bit she looked in the mirror.
My mirror disappoints me.
She sighed, there staring back at her was a defeated mare with sunken eyes due to working overtime to pay for their small condo. Crow's feet lined her eyes as she squinted trying to get rid of the lazy eye. Just once, just for once she wanted to try and appear....normal.
Am I the only one?
Sighing and letting her eyes return to their cross ways she grumpily opened her bedroom curtains, instantly her bedroom was flooded by light, mid-day light to be precise. Grumbling she made her way downstairs. After fixing herself a cup of coffee, she looked at the wall clock. It in turn read 3:00. Smiling a bit she yawned as the coffee took effect, forcefully driving away all sleepiness.
[Chorus]
Lazily she flopped onto her couch, reveling in the silence of it all. There were only two places, only two places she ever felt welcome. The first was her home. Home sweet home. The silence, the welcoming silence seemed to suck away all those whispers that seemed to follow her everywhere. Grunting she arched her back extending the compressed cartilage. Working the graveyard and over-time shifts killed her back. But it was all worth it. If it made her happy. Then it was all worth it.
On the verge of sleep, a niggling thought popped into her head. And the instant, the very instant before she was about to drop off again. It shook all the cobwebs out of her head by asking a single question: shouldn't you be picking up Dinky? Her eyes shot open as she cursed under her breath. "Horesapples, how could I have forgotten her?!" She cursed herself before quickly running out.
I think i'm getting closer. But the scenery's the same.
Huffing, she flew as fast as her wings could carry her. The schoolhouse was, by no means close to the house. Ditzy sorely wished she could make enough to move closer to private school, but right now the two bedroom condo was about the only thing she could afford. Today of all days, the air traffic above Ponyville had kicked into high-gear. A combination of early evening deliveries, and ponies just getting off for lunch. Sighing, Ditzy decided to just hoof it. And as she descended to the ground, she could feel the apprehension growing in her belly. There was a reason she barely walked amongst the town-folk anymore.
Am I a disappointment?
And as soon as she landed. As SOON as she landed, the bustling crowds, the multitudes of ponies seemed to part like the red sea. Sighing, she willed for herself not to pay them mind as they began whispering.
"Oh no it's her again!"
"Quick! Kids get back inside!"
"C'mon hun, before 'Derpy' starts acting up again."
However hard she focused on happy thoughts, however happy those thoughts were. They couldn't keep out the voices, they swirled like flies but their sting was twice as painful. It hurt. It really hurt to hear her 'friends' those whom she held dear talking behind her back like that.
I blame it on the pain.
But, that soon passed. She was only two blocks away. And soon, so soon, she would see her again. The shining star of her life.
Ditzy could feel the corners of her heart begin to lighten, she felt the muscles of her mouth twitch as she heard her daughter's pre-pubescent, sing-song voice. "Dinky! Dinky Doo!" She called out as she approached the small fenced off building. And there she was, talking to both her friends Applebloom and Scootaloo. Ditzy had to stop and smile as she watched her daughter animatedly retelling the days events to the two who nodded their heads and chimed in along the way.
A year ago when the two moved to Ponyville, Ditzy noticed that Dinky was sad, sad and alone. And Ditzy a year ago, Ditzy saw a younger version of herself in that filly. "That day I promised myself I'd make her happy." She thought sighing as she watched her now giddy daughter from afar. Ditzy remembered how she would always go out of her way to cheer up her daughter, whether it be acting foalish in public or singing songs. She remembered how after her long days, even though she was tired and sore, she would always put on her brown paper bag and smaller paper-bag shoes and parade around their little townhouse making her laugh.
Chorus
In the middle of her quiet reverie, Ditzy hadn't noticed Dinky waving her friends good-bye and running over to her. "Momma? Hello? Equestria to momma!" Chirped the much smaller unicorn. This instantly snapped Ditzy out of her day-dream. And as it did, her eyes which had previously gone even farther into their wall eyed stage, now returned to semi-lazy stage as she tried fixing her daughter with her eyes. And as you can tell from lazy eye, it didn't work. She saw her daughter, the space above her daughter, and for some odd reason, be it a a ghost of the mind or a hiccup in her vision, she could also see the space off to the right behind her daughter. And she frowned because there were two very familiar fillies there pointing and laughing at Dinky. "C'mon muffin, let's get out of here." She said as the two evil fillies began cackling.
All I need is you is all I need. If you could simply believe in me then we could be forever. Together!
Mother and daughter walked in silence for a little while. Dinky hadn't told her mother...but she had heard the other filly's laughing at her mother. And it hurt her. Ever since Ditzy had come to the annual parent-teacher get-together. Everypony always seemed...afraid...disgusted...repulsed by her. And it hurt her because they accepted Dinky for who she is, but no matter how many times Cherrilee talked about looking beyond somepony's outside and looking inside...they never did. They always assumed she was...handicapped. And Dinky knew how smart and strong her mother was. She remembered every single night Ditzy had come home, broken and tired, Dinky saw how her mother sagged as soon as she entered the door only to brighten and parade for another hour just to keep her happy. And it saddened her. "Momma deserves better than this." She thought to herself every time things like that happened. But...but she also saw how her mother lit up whenever she saw her. How she smiled.
"Hey muffin? Wanna ride on my back? You know, like how you used to?" Asked Ditzy all of a sudden. Dinky stopped and looked at her mother with concern...but ill concealed joy. She always did love riding on momma's back, she always loved the powerful jolts and steady hammering of her mother's heart.
"Can I? Can I can I can I?" She asked jumping up and down like a little filly. Ditzy only laughed and lowered herself onto her knees. Dinky climbed up and the two began walking home.
------
Ditzy could feel the little hammering of Dinky's heart as the two continued home. Now Celestia's sun was slowly setting, covered by the houses of Ponyville. Ditzy didn't care, she was wrapped up in motherly contentment. She hadn't felt so happy since she got the news she was a mother.
Ditzy decided to start jogging a bit, sending the little filly on her back into hysterics as the two galloped home.
Chorus
Even though the town disregarded her, even though she had to work grueling hours just to eek out a meager existence. Even though she couldn't give her daughter what she wanted...she was happy.
"Thank you momma." Said Dinky, the two were now well into their walk home, as stated before they lived a while from the schoolhouse.
"For what muffin?" Asked Ditzy perplexed.
"For being you." Said the little unicorn dropping off to sleep. "Nighty night momma." She yawned, falling asleep.
(A/N: There! Spent all goddam day on this chapter! Happy?!?)
Even though she couldn't see it. Ditzy looked to the stars, the sun had set a little while ago. "Thank you muffin." She whispered, tears in her eyes.
My night with the musician from Canterlot
(A/N: I'm going to fucking run this band into the ground!)
Vinyl stared at the scenery of Manehattan below her. In the glass was reflected her stained eyes. The small pitter patter of rain was the only sound in the dark apartment as Vinyl sat.
Octavia walked through the streets of Manehattan, dejectedly as the rain soaked her steel black mane.
They both sighed as they looked upon the rain
Vinyl slowly walked over to a cupboard. Her whole body felt heavy as she opened it and pulled out a picture. Clutching it to her chest she made her way over to the windowsill. This time, her eyes on the picture.
And we believed her then oh
The rain hid her tears as Octavia walked, the merciless rain beat down on her, freezing her to the bone. She didn't care though, the ice in her heart kept her from feeling the chill of her body. Walking, she limped into an alleyway and leaned against the wall.
And we believed her then oh
Vinyl stared at the picture of a smiling Octavia, the glare of the sun reflected in the picture seemed to make her even more breathtaking. She closed her eyes and hugged it, wishing desperately that the pony in the picture was the pony in her arms.
And we believed her then oh
Octavia couldn't help it. She couldn't help herself. She unconsciously found herself making her way to the apartment. She kept her dead down because of the rain, and because of the shame. She walked onwards until she found herself looking up into the window of...Vinyl's apartment. Her eyes widened as she found herself gazing at the one pony whom she hadn't wanted to see.
And the one pony she wanted the most.
And now, outside. You see the waves in her eyes.
Vinyl chuckled slightly, still gazing at the picture. "I guess...it never would have worked anyway. She was...she was destined for greater things...who am I to hold her back?" With her voice cracking, she recited these words inside her head and her spoke them aloud. If all for the purpose of making the pain go away.
And I. I won't mind what you decide to swear by.
"I...I can't see her. I...I can't...I." Octavia found herself mumbling. Both rain and tears blocking her vision, clouding it as pain made it's way into her heart. She longed to see her, to run inside and hug her and hold her and tell her everything was alright.
And now, outside. You see the waves in her eyes.
Vinyl took a deep breath to clear her mind. It was no good dwelling on the past. "She's moved on to better things. I know it. And...I'll be happy for her. I mean it's her life. Not mine." She told herself as she moved away from the window and on to the couch.
And I, I won't mind. What you decide to swear by.
[Interlude]
Octavia took a deep breath. It was now or never. She walked up to the door and opened it. Taking a deep breath before starting to walk up the stairs.
Vinyl took a deep breath and donned her rain coat. "Might as well head out and get drunk." She muttered sardonically as she took the fire escape. She walked down and took the ladder, hoisting it back up before walking a couple blocks. She smiled as the pitter patter of the rain and it's feel against her coat. Turning her head skyward she cracked a smile. "Least the weather's got the right idea." She muttered sarcastically.
And now, outside. I see your eyes meet the sky.
"..V-Vinyl! Vinyl are you home?" Octavia began to worry as greeted her. She began tearing up as she slid against the door. "Look...I know...I know things were said..but...I...I would never leave you! Even if I get the honor to play for the princess herself! If it meant leaving you....I'd turn it down in a heartbeat! So please! Vinyl! Open up!" She was full fledged panicking now as she slumped against the door sobbing hysterically.
"Uh...miss? Vinyl left only a couple minutes before ya got here. My guess is she'll be at the cafe." A nearby neighbor helped Octavia to her hooves and pointed her in the direction. She thanked him as she raced out.
And I. I don't mind. What you decide to swear by.
Vinyl continued to stare at the sky for a few moments. The rain openly covering and dripping down her face as the clouds blocking the sun turned the world gray. It was here, that the memories she had been so desperately suppressing finally broke the dam. And she began silently crying as she walked off. "I was so happy with her....was she really not that happy with me?" She finally spoke what had been on her mind.
And now, outside. I see your eyes meet the sky.
She quickly approached the cafe and found an empty seat, taking a seat on the high stool, she laid her head against the wood and let herself cry.
Octavia raced through the nearly abandoned streets, more than once slipping and smacking her head as well as other body parts. She was covered in mud, bruises, and her legs and fetlocks ached from the running. But she kept it up. And in a few minutes, she saw the lights coming from the cafe. The cafe the two of them used to frequent together. As she raced to the window, she saw, sitting on a stool with her head between her hooves was Vinyl. She knocked against the glass, starting the alabaster mare from her reverie.
And their eyes met.
And I. I won't lie. I kept you here tonight.
Vinyl saw Octavia, her eyes were puffy and swollen. Her face was cut and bleeding. Her once perfectly coifed mane was now in ruin with mud covering and binding patches of hair together. But still she was transfixed on her as she mouthed one word. "I'm sorry." She kept repeating it, and despite the rain, Vinyl could see Octavia's tears welling up behind those bloodshot eyes.
And I believed her then oh.
Vinyl ran out and threw her rain coat around the grey mare. Octavia began shuddering as the sudden warmth reminded her body of the lack of heat. Turning, she faced the smiling face of Vinyl as she embraced her.
And I believed her then oh.
"Why? Why? How can you forgive me so easily? How?" Cried Octavia as she clung to Vinyl.
And I believed her then oh.
"Because I love you. And I believed you then as I believed you know." She replied. Octavia only cried harder.
And I believed her then oh.
