Chapter 3
The Archives were cold, and seemed much darker than anywhere I had been before. In the light of the lamp, I saw that this part of the castle was surprisingly in grade-A condition, and was like it was built yesterday.
Just ahead, were to doors. One on the left, the other on the right. The door on the left, was locked, so I proceeded into the other room, where the door had fallen off its hinges. Again, there was a note on the table.
It read "Twilights Diary" on the top. It only had a small passage of my past self, about where, and what I was doing before I came to Hoofenburg. After placing the passage with the rest, I continued down the hallway, into a larger room, where large windows let light shine into the room.
I walked from one side of the room to the other, and before I walked through a doorway on the other side, I suddenly heard a death defying, un-pony like whimper. It only lasted for a brief moment, and I looked behind, and in front of me, ensuring I wasn't being watched.
I continued into the next room. Windows lit up one part of the room, where a jar of lamp oil laid on the table. In relief, I picked up the oil, and immediately put it in my lantern, as it was nearly out of oil, and would have burnt out.
I continued to my left, where two doors led to two bedroom sized rooms. As I walked toward them, I felt a faint shake under my hooves...it grew and grew, becoming more violent by the second. Suddenly, I heard a massive crash, as the ground heaved. I looked behind me, and saw the roof caving in.
I quickly rushed into the nearest room, escaping the mass collapse of the ceiling. The rumbling quickly ceased, and the massive movements of the floor grew faint, until I could feel nothing.
I peaked out the door, and saw the hallway from which I came, had completely been destroyed, blocking off the exit. I quickly swiveled my head around, looking to see if there was another way out of here.
To my right, was a damaged section of the wall, that showed the bricks which supported it. A few bricks were broken, and had fallen out, allowing me to see through. I decided to return to the room, where I encountered another vision.
"Much of the castle is old and hasn't been tended to for centuries."I heard, "When the shadow arrives, it won't take long before things start falling apart."
"We're just buying time anyway...let's do what we can."
"There isn't much to be done about the wards...we should reinforce weak structures. The ground will tremble and there is a risk everything will cave in on us...especially downstairs. Here, here and there. Let's get the servants working on it."
The vision ended, and I regained focus of the setting. On the opposite side of the room, lied a small chest, which luckily, was unlocked. I opened it, and found a tinderbox, and more oil.
I swiftly proceeded out, not wanting to waist any time. I looked through the gaps in the damaged wall, and saw a library on the other side. Using my magic, I forced my way through the wall, tearing down just enough of the wall for me to climb through.
As I entered the library, another vision clouded my mind, as I begun to hear voices yet again.
"You have to be swift..."I begun to hear a clicking sound, as if gears were grinding and moving in a system. "When you activate the first one..."The clicking ceased. "You hear that? If it stops, you'll have to start over."
"Isn't this all a bit...excessive?"
"You can never be too careful Twilight."I suddenly heard a massive creak, but felt nothing.
My mind returned back into it's normal state, as I looked at the shelves of books. I found a bright green book, which stood out among the rest. It seemed to be easier to spot, while keeping the resemblance of a book.
I pulled the book out, wanting to see what information it held, but was stopped by the book being held from the other side. I begun to hear the clicking noise again, and realized what the vision had taught me. The clicking ceased, and I looked around for more books that looked similar to the first.
After finding four, I pulled out the first one, and rushed to the rest pulling them out as I went by. As I pulled the fourth one out, the rumbling noise occurred, and I saw the bookshelf move to the left, revealing another room.
I entered cautiously, and saw a desk on the opposite side of the room. On the desk, lied a slightly rusted old key. I picked it up, and inspected it, looking for any clue to which this might go to.
"What does this go to?"I asked myself. I managed to make out the text of the handle of the key, which read, 'Wine Cellar'.
As if on key, a massive crash occurred, as I heard the sounds of splintering wood and stone. I put away my lantern quickly, and ran into the dark corner. As I sat there huddled up, expecting something to stumble into the room.
I felt my mind clench, and pulse as I sat in the darkness, as my vision begun to obscure. The noise ceases quickly, and I slowly got up on to all four hooves. I peeked around the doorway, seeing the door that once stood there, now on the floor, with pieces of the hinges lying around it.
I slowly crept out of the room, back into another hallway, lighting my lantern. Left, straight or right? The right hallway was nothing but a dead end, and left lead to the large room from which I came. I continued straight, and went into a room on my left.
I felt my head begin to pound again, as I opened up a chest containing more oil and tinderboxes. In the light of my lantern, I could hear the tune of a piano being played nearby. It was a dark, and yet cheerful tune with a moderate tempo, and exquisite melody.
I begun to feel myself walk toward the music unsure of why I was. The music drew me closer and closer toward the large room, where I slowly crept into. I looked to my right...and there IT was.
To my right, was a viscous looking creature, growling and mumbling. I regained focus, and quickly begun to inch back into the hallway. I felt my fear rise, and my sanity drop, unsure of what I was seeing.
I felt a tear drop down from my eye, as I peeked around the corner...he...or it was gone. I looked to my left, and saw nothing. Slowly, I walked out, trembling and shaking from the sight of the creature.
As I made my way back from where I came from, I constantly heard wheezing, as if some pony were having a hard time breathing. As I went back through the door to the entrance hall, I heard the piano being played yet again.
I was reliefed to have left the archives, and made my way to the door which read, 'Wine Cellar'. As I approached it, I weld the key I had retrieved, and inserted it into the lock. I quickly unlocked it, and entered the Wine Cellar.
