Ancient Connections
Chapter 1 (Note; I am sure the next chapters will be longer, I just wanted to get it off of the ground)
Twilight had her muzzle buried deep in a book for what must have been the fifth time in the last hour. This was no surprise to her little assistant, who frequently saw her face in the pages in pursuit of facts. In the brief amount of time that her head was not trying to burrow its way into the spine of the book, Spike decided to ask the all important question.
“Why?”
Twilight looked up at her assistant, now detracted from her studying “Why what, Spike?”
“Why are you studying so hard tonight? I mean, the Princess has not scheduled an exam for you in the last two years, and I don’t know of any Ponyville Quiz Nights that are on this week.” Spike was perplexed, why study without reason?
“Because, Spike, I am in the general pursuit of knowledge” Twilight proudly answered with a hoof to her chest in pride.
“But what ‘knowledge’? I have not been able to see the cover of that book for over two hours!” Twilight decided to show Spike the cover of the book, she lifted it with her magic off of the floor, leaving a small book-shaped area of the wood that was free of Twilight hair. Spike leant over to read the title. “Ancient Aliens? What in the wide wide world of Equestria possessed you to read this!? You know it’s written by a pony with some crazy ideas and even crazier hair right?”
“I know, but from reading this book, the evidence is overwhelming!”
“Evidence of what? That some ponies in a shiny ship came down and built things?”
“No Spike, more than that. Here, let me sum it up for you.” Twilight offered Spike to sit, well, she more or less levitated him in front of her without any consent of Spike himself. “Thousends of years ago, before Celestia and Luna, before any reign of Alicorn princesses, the land of Equestria was ruled in co-operation between the Unicorns, Pegasi and Earth Ponies.”
“Yes Twilight, I know, we did a play on it. Just skip to the flying saucers.”
“Ahem... well. Anyway, the book states that Aliens landed in Equestria and saw how friendship between the species held the land together in harmony. But the Aliens tried to help, apparently, so they embodied all three species in some kind of super pony. The first Alicorn.”
“You don’t believe this do you Twi?”
“Of course not! I just believe that Aliens may have shaped our history in some way. How could some of the most amazing things in Equestria have been built. How could have Unicorns built Canterlot in only a few hundred years? How did the ancient Pegasi lift the giant rocks that everything up there was carved out of. How did the Unicorns carve it all without advanced magic that we only today understand. And how did the water that runs down the mountain continuously get there without a source river. I say Aliens did it.” Twilight ended her little rant with her fore hooves pointing it the general direction of Canterlot.
“Okay, so maybe the little green ponies came down and built a city, but what does that have to do with the Alicorns?” Spike did have a good point, and Twilight just shrugged.
“I think that was just a reason that the crazy maned pony came up with. However if I flick through to here...” Twilight folded half the book over looking for a page “... just over. Nope, too far... Ahah! Here. Chapter 74; The Return. It says here that there is substantial evidence that we are being visited again by these aliens. Multiple eye witness accounts from ponies of flying objects and various strange patterns on the ground in fields. Accounts of lights in the sky at night have been seen ranging from Sydneigh all the way to Califoalnia and in a variety of shapes, the largest concentration of sightings is near Manechester, in the small town of Buckston. Applejack says she has seen one recently over her fields at her farm a few nights back, and that inspired me to study this!”
Spike stood and blinked for a little while, letting it all sink in. “So... Applejack made you do this?”
“Yes! But thats not the po...”
“Tomorrow I am going to give Applejack a piece of my mind and tell her to never mention anything science or aliens to Twilight again. I am never going through a study fest like that again.”
“Oh come on Spike, I wasn’t that messy!”
“Oh really?” Spike pointed over at a pile of books that was taller than he “This is the pile of ‘Read’ books...”
“Thats not that bad! Get off of my case.”
“From the last hour, if you let me finish. And this pile...” Spike gestured over at a stack taller than Celestia “was yesterdays.” Twilight just blushed at the book mountain that was hid somewhat behind the book case itself.
“Maybe I should go out... and forget about this Alien thing for a while.” Twilight headed toward the door.
“Do you even know the time? Its half Eleven at night! You have been studying so hard you lost track off all time! Go to bed and then go out!”
“Yes Mom” Twilight joked. “Right away Mom.” Twilight made for the stairs and climbed up, ready for bed. “Tomorrow I will go to AJ’s and get my mind off of these silly Aliens. Its driving me nuts.”
And Twilight went to sleep to have dreams about Aliens, apples and mountains of books.
