Chapter 1
I couldn’t think of a MLP name for Umbrella so I am using the name Umbrella. I hope you like this.
It happened in a flash, everything was normal, and then it went to total shitstorm.
I turned on the TV and switched it over to the news. What I saw, I almost couldn’t comprehend. A body had been discovered in an alleyway on Mare Street. From what I heard, the body had been mutilated, chunks of flesh ripped out like the pony was attacked by cannibals. There were teeth marks on parts of the pony, and the rest was unrecognizable.
Suddenly I heard a scream coming from outside: someone was getting attacked. I looked through the window, and I saw a pony getting torn apart by another pony. She screamed in pain, and then died.
I then quickly closed the curtains and turned on the TV to see if the news has any information on this.
“This is an emergency broadcast! Ponies of Raccolt City are advised to stay in their homes, and avoid all contact with the infected. I repeat, stay in your homes, and avoid all contact with the infected—” The TV went silent; they must have cut the power.
A dark grey stallion with a blonde mane and black sunglasses was standing on the Mareklay Bridge, the main exit to the city.
“Is it ready?” the stallion said.
“Yes sir.”
“Begin the quarantine process.”
“Yes sir.”
I was hiding in my now darkened house, every now and then looking out the window. Then I heard what seemed to be helicopters so I went outside, luckily the infected from earlier had stumbled away from the area. I was right: a horde of helicopters came from over the Mareklay Mountains. They seemed to be carrying wall chunks, wall chunks? Then the realisation hit me like a freight train.
NO FREAKING WAY, whoever is in command of those choppers is quarantining the city! I ran back inside, grabbing anything I thought was useful: my multi-tool, a combat knife I got from my dad, and some other items. I opened to door and carefully made my way to the bridge out of town. By the time I got there, I saw a very large crowd of ponies being scanned and let through the gate which was now on the bridge.
I looked up and saw some ponies looking down at us from atop the gate.
One stood out from the rest, he was dark grey with a blonde mane and what looked like an umbrella for a cutie mark. Weird, who has an umbrella for a cutie mark?
Then it hit me. He works for the Umbrella Corporation: if they are here no good will come out of it, I bet they already have a cover-up in place.
“How many are infected in the crowd?”
“About 235.”
“Close the gate,”
“Yes sir.”
I heard an alarm and then the gates closed. Everypony was pissed and started screaming at the people on top of the gate. One of the ponies on the gate started to talk through a microphone:
“Attention, please remain calm and return to your homes.”
The crowd kept on screaming at the pony. “I repeat, return to your homes or we will be forced to use live ammunition.
The crowd ignored him and kept screaming. Gunshots were heard, and the crowd ran from the gate and back into the city. It’s been an hour since the Umbrella Corporation has quarantined the city, I don’t know what is truly going on, but I do know one thing.
I need a gun.
Luckily, there was a gun store 3 blocks away, so I made my way there. I got what I needed from the store: a Colt 1911, fully loaded with 3 extra clips; a 32 calibre colt-action rifle, fully loaded, with scope and 4 extra clips; and a Mare16 assault rifle, fully loaded with 3 extra magazines and a torch attachment.
After getting the guns I went outside only to be greeted by a horde of walkers. Looks like it’s my lucky day.
I ran like hell, only to be saved by ducking into a nearby building. I let out a much needed sigh and slumped down on the floor. I guess I dozed off, because when I woke up it was night time.
My stomach let out a loud growl; I went to check if there was any food in this house. There was some basic food, perishables, tinned, canned and a few bottles of water. I ate some of the perishables and drank a bottle of water.
One hour later there was a load whirring outside. I went up to the balcony of this house and saw multiple helicopters going around the city. “Probably doing recon,” I said.
Then I saw military vehicles on my street, they were checking for survivors.
I could hear two people talking through a radio.
“Sir is it ready?”
“Yes it is, activate project Mareisis”
Project Mareisis? Whatever it is it can’t be good.
It was the next day when I heard gunshots, I looked out the window and saw a brown pony with a blonde mane running from a horde of the infected.
I hurried to the balcony and equipped the 32 calibre colt action rifle and took shots at them. The pony noticed me and ran towards the house. It took a while, but we managed to finish off the horde.
I went downstairs and let him in. “Thank you,” he said.
“It was no problem, what is your name?” I asked.
“Neon S Kennedy, I work for S.T.A.R.S.”
“Well, it is nice to meet you.”
“Likewise.”
“Neon, have you heard of project Mareisis?”
“No, I haven’t.”
“OK, it’s just that I heard some soldiers on the street mention it.”
“If I know Umbrella, it is probably another one of their pet projects, but don’t worry about it now”
“Oh, well let’s get some rest, then we will head out.”
“Agreed.”
