Cutie Mark Engineers/Necromorph Killer's Yay!
Chapter 31: Laser show.
Previous Chapter Next ChapterThe Slasher tried to get up but was put down when Isaac slammed his boot into its skull.
"Well, that was nerve-wracking." He said wiping his boot clean on the corpse.
"Yeah, but it was funny when you were screaming." Scootaloo snickered.
"I do not scream. I am a man, men do not scream." He said defensively. "Even if yelling is sometimes high pitched, it is still a yell."
The crusaders snickered as they went through the door at the end of the room.
They went down the ramp, but stopped when they heard a roar of something very familiar to Scootaloo.
"Oh, this is going to be great!" She hissed. "I get to fight my second Divider!"
She opened the door and jumped into the room, tentacles out.
Her smile fell when all she saw was a body drop from a vent.
"Better luck next time." Sweetiebelle patted her on the back.
"Hey, were not trying to find Necromorph's here. We’re trying to avoid them." Isaac said. "Now come on, this way."
As he went to the door, the Divider came out from the vent where the body fell. It saw Isaac and ran at him.
He swung out as it jumped and sent it rolling away. He quickly started to fire with his Pulse rifle, shooting it until it split. He froze it in stasis and fired off a grenade. He looked back to see Scootaloo frowning.
"Not... a damn word." He wheezed. "Oh, that made my heart go racing."
When he had calmed down enough, he opened the door and let the crusaders through first.
"Eww..." Sweetiebelle said. "More of this stuff."
Isaac looked over and saw a patch of Corruption, already growing.
"Great, this stuff will slow us down." He said. "But the Necromorph's can walk on this stuff just fine."
He opened the next door and saw the entire floor was covered in Corruption. He looked down the room, as he came in and saw it was growing all the way. And there were Stalkers around.
"Hey, Scootaloo." Isaac said, eyeing one particular Stalker as it watched him.
"yeah?" She said, staring at it too.
"For old time’s sake?" He said putting his arms straight down.
"You know it." She grabbed him and ran forward. "Hey Applebloom, get that power core up there. Sweetiebelle, protect her while she makes her way over to the broken core."
Scootaloo ran forward, Isaac raised over her like a mace.
Applebloom and Sweetiebelle ran forward, Applebloom pulling the core down as she went.
They arrived at the broken core, pulled it out and was about to put the new one in when a Stalker came running out from behind a crate. Sweetiebelle and Applelboom were to slow to react; it was already a half of the way there when they had seen it.
Before it hit them, Isaac stuck out an arm and let it run head first into it. It did a back-flip in the air before landing, where he fired off a few shot from his Plasma cutter.
"Are you two done yet?" He asked, jokingly. "I'm running out of cartoon moves."
"Oh, you'll be running in a second." Applebloom grumbled, pushing in the core with slight difficulty.
The new core lit up a few lights and unlocked the door to their right. Scootaloo opened it and looked in, and frowned.
"Cysts." She said.
Applebloom already ran in and fired at the one in front of them, only to see the one next to it was alive. She grabbed a box and carefully moved it over it before letting go.
"Clear!" She called out.
The others slowly came out from the doorway.
Isaac stuck out his palm and the small objective marker went down the ramp. He waved the others over and they all went down. Sweetiebelle and Applebloom guarding the back, Isaac and Scootaloo guarding the front.
"Were getting closer, Isaac." Nicole said. "The Marker knows your here."
"I still don't know what to do." He replied.
He didn't hear the crusaders face-hoof again.
"When the time comes, you will." She said before she was silent.
He looked back to the door and the crusaders; he nodded forward and opened it.
They all stopped, dead in their tracks and saw a Marker, one-fourth of the way done, having itself smoothed by lasers.
"Crap, looks like I'll have to dodge these lasers to make my way around the other side. This'll be fun." He said.
"It doesn't look to good for ya, Isaac." Applebloom said. "But we can just walk under them." She smiled cheekily.
"You three suck... you know that?" He said as they trotted out.
As he went out, he heard the distinct gurgle of a Crawler. He slowly turned to the Slasher body on the floor and saw a Crawler already making its way towards him. He looked back and saw the lasers coming at him.
"Fuck my life!" He yelled as he jumped over the baby.
It exploded and made him stumble, he kept running and made it to the next room. He bent down on his knees before seeing two Slasher’s come from the vents.
"Isaac! Run!" Scootaloo called out. "The babies are almost at the doorway!"
He looked back out and saw more Crawlers making their way towards him. He looked back at the Slasher’s and ran when the next set of lasers passed.
Another Crawler fell from the ceiling and dropped onto Isaac. He felt it, but before he could take it off, it exploded, sending him to the floor.
"Dammit!" He cursed. "Oh shit..." He said as he saw the other Crawlers and a Puker crawling towards him. "Fuck you universe!"
He lifted his Plasma cutter and killed off the Puker, the Crawlers stopped and looked towards the crusaders. They began to crawl towards them instead.
He looked around and saw the lasers move overhead again.
'I'd get cut to pieces if I tried to get up and run.' He followed the speed of the lasers. 'And if another necromorph comes by, then I'm dead unless the crusaders can help me.' He looked over and saw the crusaders finish off the Crawlers, a piece of the floor from inside the chamber went flying, went through a laser and landed in front of him.
"It doesn't melt the floor panels..." He said looking at the shard. "Hey! Scootaloo! Throw me a roll of the floor panel!"
"In the room!?" She yelled back. "Why?"
"No! From inside the chamber! The lasers can't cut through it!"
Scootaloo swapped her wings for her horn and immediately tried to pry a roll of the paneling out. She aimed it towards Isaac and teleported it over, right side up.
"You can stand up! It's safe!" She yelled. "As safe as you can get in the middle of lasers that can burn you in half..." She mumbled the last part under her breath.
He slowly stood up, flinching every time a set of lasers passed by. Comfortable inside his little tube, he stuck out his elbows and used them and his upper arm to lift it up. With a grunt, he began taking his first steps forward.
"This is really heavy." He grunted.
"Come on Isaac!" They cheered. "You can do it!"
"Thanks..." He replied, barely audible as he made it half way towards them. "For the encouragement. Really..."
Their smiles quickly turned to frowns when they saw a one armed Puker start to crawl towards him.
"Isaac! Behind you!" They yelled. "Puker!"
'My arge nemesis.' Isaac thought. "Try and keep it away!"
"You’re in the way!" Sweetiebelle called out. "We'd hit you!"
"Then I'll just have to get my shit in gear." With a large grunt, he hoisted the roll onto his back and began to run. "Oh god, this is heavy!" He said.
The Puker sped up, acid trailing behind it, burning its own flesh as it crawled. It gave a gurgle as it raised its head.
Isaac was almost at the doorway.
Its head shot forward.
He was at arm’s reach of the doorway.
It shot out a glob of acid.
"Suck on this!" Isaac yelled going in as the acid reached him. He kicked the roll out and watched as it hit the Puker in the head. "That looked better in my head..."
"Um... Isaac." Applebloom said, keeping a hoof over her mouth. "It got ya."
"What? Where?" He looked at his arms, chest, helmet, legs and boots.
"On your flank." She giggled, eyes watering.
"Wait..." He looked back and saw his glute armor was sizzling. "Dammit! My biscuits are burning!"
He started to pat the acid off as the crusaders laughed, rolling on the floor. Tears flowing freely as their faces turned red from laughter, the color showing through their coats.
After Isaac had put out his burnt biscuits, the crusaders calmed down, Isaac cursing silently and out loud. They proceed up to the top.
The lights were still red, only casting long shadows across the walls. The top of the Marker, spinning below.
"How do we get across?" Applebloom asked. "Ah can't exactly fly over."
"We have to pull down the walkways." Isaac said walking up to one of them. "Just use kinesis." He demonstrated it by pulling down. "Why don't you get the next one?" He bowed and moved his hands to the side.
Applebloom rolled her eyes playfully before pulling down the second walkway.
Before they entered the door ahead, two Slasher's, one a blackened one and a normal one, came out from opposite vents.
Sweetiebelle took out the normal one, she turned to the blackened one and saw Scootaloo sucking out a red mist of it from its head.
Its arms went limp before the yellow turned a deep red. She dropped it and it fell to the floor.
It raised itself slowly back up, its eyes glowing with an unearthly red energy. Scootaloo blew out a small wisp, smiling blissfully.
"Now that," Her eyes flashed yellow and green. "Was good."
The others shrugged at her before Isaac opened the door. The Slasher went in first, checking the hall.
Scootaloo went past them, waving them in. They went down the ramp. The only sign of blood was from the Slasher's foot prints, sliding down in small trickles.
When Isaac opened the door ahead, he stopped and gripped his head.
"Isaac!" Applebloom said. "What's wrong!? Is it Nicole!?"
"The... memories! Ah! Make them stop!" He cried, falling to his knees.
Scootaloo came up behind him and smashed his Plasma cutter against the back of his head. He fell to the floor with a thud, curled up, unconscious.
Her friends stared at her in shock.
"What?" She said. "He’s not hurting anymore, is he?"
Her friends gave to audible groans.
