Chapter 1: Arriving at Ravenwood

Arriving at Ravenwood

Spike grumbled as he prepared himself for school. As Twilight stood outside his tower of Canterlot Castle, he sighed, "Why is mother sending me to some wizard school? It's not like I'm training to become a Court Mage. Whatever" before exiting his room with his bags packed. He asked Twilight, "Remind me why mother is sending the Sages of Harmony to accompany to my new school?"

Twilight told him, "My prince, we've been over this five times. If you are to attend Ravenwood, you must be more diligent."

Spike sighed, "It's a figure of speech. You know, for one of the greatest minds in Equestria, you really are dense at times. Let's get on with this." before following Twilight to the Spiral Gate to Wizard City. They were met there by the other five Sages of Harmony, Rainbow Dash, Fluttershy, Rarity, Applejack, and Pinkie Pie. Among them, there was his mother, the Queen of Equestria, Celestia, his aunt Luna, and his personal guards, Sunset Shimmer and Starlight Glimmer.

Celestia smiled at her son as he faked a smile and said, "Oh my darling son, being accepted into Ravenwood is something I always dreamed of! You simply must write about your studies!"

Spike nodded, "Yes mother, I'll write, I promise." saying to himself, "If I don't go mad at school." before asking once more, "May I be reminded why the Sages of Harmony are accompanying me? Starlight and Sunset are my personal guards, I expected you to send them with me, but why the six most powerful Mages in Equestria?"

Celestia explained, "The greatest Mages of Equestria will be the greatest tutors. The school year started three months ago, the Sages will be helping you keep up with your studies so you don't fall behind."

Spike nodded, "Yes mother, I understand." before stepping through the Spiral Gate and arriving within the Grandfather Tree, Bartleby. As he stepped out, followed by the Sages of Harmony and his guards, an old man with a long beard was there to meet them. Spike asked, "Are you Headmaster Ambrose? It's an honor to meet such a famous mage."

The man chuckled, "You flatter me young prince, it's truly an honor to have the Prince of Equestria attending our school. Is there anything I can do for you before we get you oriented with the school?"

Spike spoke plainly, "Personally, I'd rather be treated without all the formalities. I'm a student first, Prince of Equestria second. I don't want special treatment."

Ambrose was somewhat surprised, "I see, very well then. Spike, please, follow me to my office, we must consult the Book of Secrets to get you sorted into your house."

As Spike followed the Headmaster, he looked around the school, taking in the sights of the five trees that circled Bartleby, but when he saw a destroyed section of the campus, he asked, "Headmaster, may I ask what happened to the Death School?"

Ambrose sighed, "It's a bit too early to explain that. The school had an incident when one of our teachers... resigned... from his position. Let's not dwell on that though, we have more important things to focus on." before entering his office and pulling out a book and placing it on his desk. "Just answer these questions honestly, and let the book do the rest."

As Spike flipped through the pages of the book, he chose the answers that seemed truest to his personality. The book flipped through its pages on its own, before stopping, "The School of Death? Interesting, how am I supposed to go to class with no classroom to go to?"

Twilight spoke up, "The prince does have a point. How are students to attend their classes if there's no classroom or teacher?"

Ambrose sighed, "I must admit, the absence of our Death Professor and Death Classroom has caused problems for those enrolled in Death. Speak to Malorn Ashthorne, he was the Death Professor's best student before his resignation and has taken up tutoring the new students."

Spike suspected something, but didn't press further and nodded, "Thank you Headmaster, I'll speak to Malorn in the morning. It's getting late, plus-" before his stomach growled lightly. "Yeah, I didn't get a chance to eat before leaving home."

Ambrose chuckled, "Of course, why don't you and your friends head to the cafeteria? I'm certain you must be hungry, so I think you'll enjoy the options at the cafeteria. I'd personally recommend a fresh batacuda steak with Rivia Nut and Swamp Saffron, and a side of steamed blood moss. Truly delicious."

Spike smiled, "Thank you for the suggestion headmaster, it sound tasty." before heading to the cafeteria. When they reached the doors to the cafeteria, he told the Sages and his guards, "Leave me be, I refuse to eat with the eight of you watching my every move. I will not argue on this, it's either that or I'm never eating."

Twilight sighed, "Very well my prince. I fully understand not wanting to be watched as you eat or sleep, so we will leave you be. If anything comes up though, please contact us."

As the Sages left and Starlight and Sunset went off, Spike went inside the cafeteria. He sat down after getting a strange looking sandwich called a hamburger.

An older student laughed as he ate it with a fork and knife. "What kind of dork eats a hamburger with a knife and fork?"

As Spike swallowed his bike, he ignored the student's insult and asked, "Hamburger? Is that what you call it? Strange, it tastes like beef, not pork. Regardless, it's a good sandwich."

The student laughed louder, "Oh man, you've never heard of a hamburger? Where are you from, the stone age?"

Spike sighed, before standing up, and walking up to the older student. The student was still laughing, until Spike punched him in the face, "What the!? You fucking brat, you broke my nose!" before punching back.

As students started yelling, "Fight, fight, fight!" Spike still had the upper hand, he may have been smaller than his bully, but he was faster, and used his tail to his advantage.

By the time the fight broke up, Spike walked away with nothing worse than a black eye, while his bully got his head stuck in a pickle jar. When Spike walked out of the cafeteria, Sunset Shimmer approached him, and noticing Spike's black eye, she shrieked in surprise, "My lord, what happened to your eye!? It's horribly swollen! Did somebody hit you?"

Spike grumbled, "I got in a fight, ok? This guy was being a jerk over the way I was eating a hamburger I punched him, and he punched me back. Right now, his head is still stuck in a pickle jar."

Sunset's eyes widened, "You got into a fight on your first day of school!? My lord, that is highly inappropriate, you are here to study, not fight! I don't care if you were being bullied, you should have contacted one of us!"

"I will fight my own battles, you of all people know that, you were the one who drilled it into my head during fencing practice."

Sunset grumbled, this was true, but she didn't feel like arguing, "Very well, that is true. For now, let us retire to our dorms. You will have your own room while the Sages of Harmony, Starlight and I reside in one of the apartments in town. Please, don't go picking more fights before classes start in the morning."

Spike nodded, "Fine, let's go."

While Spike's eye hurt, he had to admit, that fight was the most fun he'd had in a few years. As he retired to his dorm and laid down in his bed, he chuckled, "My eye may hurt, but I haven't had that much fun in years! Perhaps this school year will be more fun than I first thought." before turning off his lights and falling to sleep.
