Chapter 1: I still remember

I still remember

Rainbow sat beside the fireplace as she wore a wholly cozy sweater. Her head was leaning against orange fur as she draped a wing against the tangerine. She let out a resounding sigh.

“I still remember,“ she said, nuzzling her face against the soft fur.

“Remember what?“ came the tired, southern, hella-attractive voice.

Rainbow was at a loss for words. It wasn't like her to do so. Instead, her face flustered into a measly red tomato.

“How do we do!“ rang a mare's voice. Rainbow's ears picked up as she noticed a white unicorn standing in the doorway wearing a red sweater. Rainbow's teeth gritted as she came over.

“What a sight for...“ Applejack trailed off, her eyes oozing over lovingly as she planted a kiss on the unicorn's cheek.

“...sore eyes,“ Rainbow completed quietly, her eyes trailing on the ground.

You said it looked better on me than it did you...

Puff. Puff. Puff.

Rainbow lay on a white cloud. Despite its weather, she didn't find it cold. She was quite used to sleeping on clouds. However, she was tossing and turning around in a literal huff.

“Only if you knew how much I liked you,“ Rainbow said, her eyes watering until she sighed.

She gathered enough fluff and plugged to her ears. But it didn't unable her to hear the sound of somepony calling out her name from the ground. She piped up, hoping that it would be her but instead...

“Dashie!“

Oh, great. It's Pinkie Pie. Rainbow's ears perked up. Pinkie Pie?

She didn't bat an eyelid as she flew herself to the ground in front of the pink pony. The pony wore a happy smile, bigger than the one she usually wore.

“What's up, Pink?“

Pinkie tackled the pegasus in glee. “Happy Third of December! Here, have a sweater!“ She plopped one onto the pegasus with force.

The pegasus looked at the sweater she was now wearing. She smirked. “Thanks.“

“No problemo!“ Pinkie smiled brightly. “Say, you doing anything tonight?“

“Uh...“ Rainbow darted her eyes. “Yeah. Collecting all my other sweaters. See ya!“ And with that, she dashed off.

Pinkie's curls deflated bit by bit as she watched her rainbow friend go.

“Brighter than a blue sky...“

She let out a sigh and continued hopping on her way.

Rainbow skidded to a halt in front of the Golden Oak Library. She knocked on the door. The door opened to reveal Spike in the way.

“Hey, Spike. Happy Third of December.“

“Yeah, uh, you too.“ Spike began to walk past he pegasus.

“Uh, okay.“ Rainbow headed inside to find Twilight sitting amidst the library all snuggled up reading a book.

Twilight's head lifted. “Oh, Rainbow! So great to see you! Hold up -- I didn't forget!“ She levitated a sweater into view, hoofing it to the pegasus.

The sweater landed in Rainbow's hooves. “Thanks, Twi.“ She started making her way out again.

“No problem. Say, have you seen Pinkie around?“

“Eh, yeah, why?“

“Nothing. She didn't... tell you anything, did she?“

“No.“

“Oh, okay. Phew. Not yet, then.“

“What do you mean?“

“You'll find out later. Goodbye, Rainbow Dash.“

Dazed, she continued on with her next station.

She arrived at Fluttershy's cottage and gently knocked on the door. A bear came into view and then Fluttershy.

“Oh, Rainbow! Sorry, I didn't forget I promise!“ Fluttershy went back in to fetch something. When she came out, she hoofed Rainbow a sweater. “Have a nice day, Dashie.“

“You too.“ Rainbow flew away. She counted the number of sweaters she received. One, two... There were four.

One from Pinkie Pie.

One from Twilight.

One from Fluttershy.

And one from Applejack.

Which only left her to one final pony. Rarity.

Rainbow's heart dropped. Did she really have to?

She sighed.

“Now I’m getting colder, but how could I hate her. She’s such an angel.“ She wore a bitter frown and took off.

She arrived at Rarity's doorstep. She lightly knocked on the door. No one was answering so Rainbow took the opportunity to leave...

The door opened.

“Darling, you're here!“ chirped Rarity as she hoofed Rainbow a dark blue sweater. “Care to stay?“

Rainbow's first instinct was to say no. Instead, she said, “sure, why not? I've got nothing better to do.“

Rarity stepped aside as she allowed her friend in. When Rainbow headed inside, she noticed Applejack's hat laying on the floor.

“Nice hat,“ she sarcastically replied. “Never thought you to be the cowgirl type.“

“Oh.“ Rarity chuckled heartily. “Applejack's in the other room. Why don't you join her while I go make the three of us some warm tea? It's fairly cold outside.“

Rainbow took the opportunity to do just that. She headed into the other room to find Applejack sitting at the edge of Rarity's bed.

“Hey Applejack.“

“Howdy Dashie. Come in.“

Rainbow walked further in and sat beside Applejack.

“So what have you been doing today?“

“Nothing much. How about you?“

“Nothing much either.“ Rainbow sat straight, looking at the door.

So did Applejack.

Rainbow turned back to her. “Actually, I--“

The door opened, revealing Rarity magically holding a tray of three mugs and wearing Applejack's hat. She walked in and placed it on the nightstand. They each took one each.

Rainbow stared at her coffee. She even makes good tea.

Her ears picked up as she watched her friends giggling at each other before locking themselves into a deep and passionate kiss.

Rainbow sighed. Why would you ever kiss me? I’m not even half as pretty.

After having tea with her two friends, Rainbow headed back out onto the winter landscape.

She had her head down as she walked through the snow.

“Dashie!“

Rainbow's ears perked up. There goes the sweet voice again. Rainbow grumbled as she headed the other way.

“Dashie, wait up!“

Rainbow began to walk as quick as she could. She opened up her wings to take off once she realised that they were frosted. She felt the urge to facehoof herself right then and there. Unfortunately, Pinkie caught up.

“Hi.“

“Hi?“ Rainbow replied, furrowing her brows.

“Why were you... I mean, I have something to say to you.“

Rainbow tilted her head.

Pinkie lifted her head and took in a deep breath. She stepped forward.

“What are you doing?“ Rainbow asked, noticing the pink pony coming closer and closer.

“Watch as she stains,“ Pinkie softly began, “with her holding your hoof.“

Rainbow's eyes widened.

“Put your arm round her shoulder,“ Pinkie continued.

“Now I'm getting colder,“ they said in unison as they stared back at each other, with heavy, cold breaths.

“I...I...“ Pinkie stammered. “I love you, Dashie!“

She tackled the pegasus to the ground, the two of them rolling on the snow until Pinkie was on top of Rainbow, the latter pushing on her chest to look at her.

Rainbow's eyes lowered.

“...I love you too, Pinkie.“

Pinkie squealed and grasped Rainbow back into a hug.

“You don't know how happy I am to hear you say that! I've been waiting for so long!“

And I've been for the wrong pony.

Rainbow smiled wearily.

She's got me mesmerised indeed.
