Chapter 1: Remembering

Remembering

Remembering

It was always painful to remember. Never, she knew, would it get any easier. But she had come to terms with her situation, accepted the circumstances. That didn't mean she had to like them.

"This is going to be the best night ever!", the mare said in an uncharacteristically loud voice. Fluttershy was going to see all the wonderful flora and fauna offered by the majestic Canterlot Gardens. Soon after arriving, her and her 5 best friends parted ways to pursue their goals for the evening. After a few minutes of walking, Fluttershy came face to face with the most beautiful garden she had ever seen, along with some of the most colourful animals she had only ever read about in books.

But the moment she tried to approach them, all the animals scattered, leaving her alone and wondering,"What did I do?" After another few tries, she was getting frustrated.

She decided instead to focus on the exotic array of plants surrounding her. She could name most by heart, while others left her with a hoof to her chin in thought. As she was about to turn her focus again on the critters, she saw a spark of colour behind a hedge in her peripheral vision. She went towards it, and found the source to be an array of flowers coloured much like Rainbow Dash's mane and tail.

For a moment she simply stood and stared, marveling in their beauty. Then she leaned closer and took a sniff of the green flower on the mysterious plant. The smell combined with the petals rubbing her nose made her sneeze cutely. Having taken ample time to look at the plant she moved her focus once again to the animals.

Little did she know that this plant would change her life forever.

As the night wore on, Fluttershy got more and more angry and irritated, coming up with crazier and stranger traps. And all the while her heart rate was climbing.

As all this was happening, her friends were going about their business, all of them eventually winding up in the grand hall. As Twilight grumbled the traditional (and jinxing),"At least it can't get any worse.", Fluttershy burst through the door. "YOU'RE GOING TO LOVE ME!" Then, as her heart rate spiked, it finally happened and she began to change.

Her mane and tail straightened out and a sickly bog green colour took over her usual bright pink hair from the base up. Her skin also gained a green tinge to it, though it was brighter than her mane and tail. And she began to grow, taller and taller, until she was taller than Celestia herself. By now most of the dress Rarity made for her was ripped to shreds. Then she began to bulk up. Her muscles increased exponentially in both size and density, her bone structure shifted and hardened to accommodate the new weight. Curiously, her wings did not grow, relieving her of the ability of flight, but her newfound strength could surly make up for that. And lastly the things not usually noticed: her eyes shifted from azure to a grass green, and her cutie mark dissapeared, leaving her with a flank that was a blank as a newborn filly's.

Rarity fainted, not at the sight of the monster before her, but because of her dress being destroyed. Applejack just stood, petrified by the scene, her brain not willing to accept what her eyes showed it. Twilight was already constructing a magical barrier. Pinkie Pie didn't even seem to notice the chaos around her, as she was too busy eating Applejack's cake.

"F...F...Fluttersh..sh..shy?", was all Rainbow Dash could say.

The beast lifted it's enormous hooves to destroy the barrier Twilight and the royal guards had constructed, as well as everything behind it. But in the depths of it's mind, Fluttershy cried,"NO! You will not hurt my friends or anyone else!"

Mustering what little control the mare had, she dropped her hooves, not on the shield but on the ground. The impact still shook the building, and caused the beast to be launched far into the night sky.

~~~~~~~~~~
The mare still remembered that night as clearly as if it had happened only a few hours ago. The looks of anger, fear, disgust, hatred and pure terror she had seen on her friends faces, on everponies faces, would be forever etched onto her mind's eye. That night, like most nights, she cried herself to sleep.
