In a world that runs on economics—
—or walks, or limps, or crawls, because water has died, and the seasons do not move without Pegasi pushing them along, and plants and animals do not reproduce without help from Earth Ponies, and the laws of physics are whatever Unicorns tell them to be—
—because economics is the only thing that still seems to work by itself, that doesn’t require magic for it to be what it already was, one Unicorn named Twilight Sparkle has decided that she’s better off without a social life. She has her job and her research and her mentor, Princess Celestia.
But when she is sent away from the great capital city of Canterlot with its massive libraries and academic conferences to the dull backwater of Ponyville in time for the summer solstice celebration, she will find herself facing a challenge more terrifying than nightmarish Alicorns, fire-breathing dragons, and the prospect of getting an A- on an exam.
She will have to make some friends.
