Fire-Fighting with Firestarter

by Prince Danny

Chapter 1: All is Well

All is Well

Anypony is welcome to find a home in Equestria:

Metropolitan Ponies find their place within Canterlot and Manehattan, where chock-a-block commerce is conducted and Entertainment can be found around every block.

Farmers and Villagers make their living across the countryside, making honest wages tending to the needs of the Earth and Sky.

And all Ponies can feel at ease, safe in the knowledge that they are under the protection of the magnificent Princess Celestia,
The Watchful Guardian of all Ponykind.

The Ponyville Post Office was in a panic. An ill-advised buck to a thundercloud had struck the Post Office roof and a fire had begun working its way down the building. Amidst all this chaos a Pegasus had flown away to go get help while the Ponies in the Post Office were evacuating the building.

All hope was not lost however, as a member of the Equestrian Fire Department had just flown onto the scene.

A Pegasus Pony by the name of Firestarter made his way towards the building, armed with a raincloud. He had spiky blue hair, charcoal black wings and a Cutie Mark in the shape of a blazing fire.

Flying high above the Post Office, he slammed a hoof into the raincloud, letting out a stream of water onto the blaze.

Whilst the fire was being contained, Firestarter equipped a light-blue visor and rushed into the Post Office.

There were two sections of the Post Office that needed to be cleared, the main floor and the sorting bay in the back.

“If Anypony’s in here, call out, I’m here to help!”

The Fire-Fighter moved calmly and methodically through the main floor, scanning for any injured or incapacitated Ponies.
“None, clear.”

The Fire-Pony leapt over the service counter and made a check for any unconscious employees.
“None, clear.”

Confident in his sweep, the Pony leapt back over the counter and made a beeline towards the front of the building, “Sweet as Celestia.” only to be halted by a flaming support beam falling in front of the entrance.

“Crap.”

Firestarter scanned his surroundings and found no other exits but looking up, he saw a newly weakened section of the roof.

“Take a moment,” He crouched down low, “to focus.” coiled his muscles… “Then break out!” and sprung up at the roof.

*SMASH*

Colliding hard with the solid roof, the Fire-Fighter broke out of the Post Office.

Unfortunately, he had overshot his exit trajectory and was currently at the height of a considerably drop.

“Math, Science, oh yeah Physics. OK, at this rate,” He looked down. “I’m going to hit the ground, damn.”

Gravity took hold fast and the Fire-Pony found himself in a freefall.

As time slowed, Firestarter remembered a scenario where a Pony got out of a similar predicament.

It had been a Chilly Winter in Ponyville, and a young colt with aviator sunglasses was reading the latest edition of Power Ponies.

In this edition of Power Ponies, the Masked Matter-Horn has been taken captive by the nefarious Mane-iac. It’ll be up to her trusty sidekick, the high-flying HumDrum to rescue her, but first, can he save himself from his precarious predicament?

The young Fire-Pony turned over the page.

We last left our Ace Acrobat high above the streets of Maretropolis, where a confrontation between HumDrum and Mane-iac had taken a turn for the problematic.

“A lot of P-words in this edition.” The colt commented.

“It’s over Hum-Drum.” Mocked the Mane-iac. “I have you cornered upon this rooftop, and there’s no other Power Ponies that can come and rescue you.” she cackled in glee.

“You may be right Mane-iac,” Rebutted HumDrum, “there are no other Power Ponies on their way,” Mane-iac smirked, “but you’re wrong about me being cornered.” HumDrum moved to the edge of the roof.

“In fact, my escape is as simple as a Leap.”

HumDrum leapt off the roof of the two-storey building.

“Tuck.” And stuck out his tail, rotating himself into a somersault.

“And Slam!” Then slammed his front hooves into the pavement, having just executed a perfect Front-Flip.

“Sorry Mane-iac,” HumDrum yelled to the top of the roof. “but I’ve got an appointment with Matter-Horn!”
And made his escape.

Mane-iac leaned over the roof, just in time to see HumDrum making a quick exit.

“Blast!” She clenched her hoof in anger, “You’ve evaded me this time Hum-Drum, but you won’t be so lucky going forward. I’ll see to that personally.” she grinned menacingly.

To be continued in next month’s edition of Power Ponies.

“Aw, what a gyp.”

“Alright,” Firestarter started to drop towards the ground. “do it just like HumDrum.”

“It’s as simple as a Leap.”

His descent quickened.

“Oh right I already leapt, wait. Focus.”

“Tuck.”

He stuck out his back, then rotated himself into a somersault.

The Fire-Fighter continued to accelerate.

“And Slam!”

The ground was in clear view.

Then slammed his front hooves into the ground, just barely executing a Front-Flip and avoiding a hard impact with the ground.

“Thank, Celestia… I read all those Comic Books.” He said, before walking over to the Post Office and gently collapsing into the shade of the building.
