Chapter 1: <3

Starlight paced back and forth in her bedroom. The mare was incredibly nervous yet extremely excited. Today was the day she'd been waiting for. It would be her first date with Trixie. She had gotten ready early to make sure she'd be on time, she didn't want to risk being late for this. The only thing was, there was still about 40 minutes until she had to meet her at the café. Before thoughts could cloud her head, she heard a knock on the door.

"Um, come in!" Starlight answered, her pacing coming to a halt.

"Hello, Starlight!" Twilight greeted, her pink magic illuminating the door briefly as she opened it. She walked in, her usual calm expression on her face, before letting out a tiny chuckle. "You seem awfully worked up."

"Nervous?? Me? Never!" She replied, waving her hoof dramatically with an awkward laugh.

"I can tell you are, and that's okay. If there is anything you need before this special occasion I'm here to help!" Twilight tried her best to comfort her friend.

"Thanks, Twilight!" Starlight said, letting her uneasiness shown more clearly now. She glanced at herself a few times before speaking up again. She wore a casual dress, it was light blue and had puffy sleeves, made just for the day by the one and only Rarity. "Is this too casual for a date?!"

Twilight shook her head. "Not at all! I think it's perfect! I know Trixie will love it," She consoled, offering her friend a comforting smile.

Starlight sighed in slight relief. "You're right, Twilight. I need to calm down," She replied before adding with a chuckle, "I doubt Trixie will care too much about what I wear anyways."

Twilight nodded in agreement, "You would know best. Good luck!" She trotted back out of the door, and Starlight sighed again, but more so in relief this time. She could do this! There was no reason at all that she shouldn't be confident in herself. The remembrance that Trixie was the one who asked her out made her feel a little better about the whole situation as well. Everything will be fine, She thought to herself.

Starlight looked to the clock on her dresser, the time was now 12:32. She knew had had to be there at 1:00pm. Starlight yawned slightly, and decided she'd just relax for a while until she'd think it was a good time to leave. The café was only a few minute walk away, after.

At 12:50, Starlight got up from her bed. She magicked her door open and began to walk towards the exit, Twilight giving her a friendly wave and smile as she went. She exited, heading toward the café, growing more excited with every second. As she approached, she saw Trixie standing by the door.

"Did I keep you waiting? Sorry if-" Starlight was interrupted by the other mare.

"Nope! Trixie arrived about a minute ago," She said with a funny smirk, tilting her head to the side.

"Oh, good. Shall we go in?"

Trixie used her magic to open the door, standing beside it. "Ladies first," Realizing what she said, she quickly added, "Well, Pretty ladies first."

Starlight chuckled softly with a blush, "So, you?"

Trixie rolled her eyes playfully, staying in her position. "Prettier ladies first then," she corrected.

Starlight smiled. "Well, fine, even if by those rules you should be first," She chuckled, trotting in and quickly glancing behind her to see Trixie following. A unicorn waiter greeted the two of them, leading them to a booth. They both sat on opposite ends and began look at the menus.

"I'll be back in a few minutes to take both of your orders," He informed, walking off.

"What were you thinking about getting? Do you like tea?" Starlight asked, looking away from the menu to talk to her.

"The great and powerful Trixie refuses to drink your leaf water! She needs caffeine!!" Trixie declared, still looking through the menu.

"Tea has caffeine, Trix," Starlight replied, tilting her head a little with a laugh.

"Well," The coltish mare began with a huff, "She still doesn't want tea." She couldn't hold back a little laugh.

"Fine, fine." Starlight chortled as Trixie put down the menu. And right on time, too. The waiter had returned

"Are you two ready to order?" The waiter asked. A notebook and one were floating in the air in front of him, lifted by his magic.

"Yes," Starlight started, "I would just like one iced tea please," She stated, looking to Trixie and signaling her to order. Trixie nodded with understanding.

"Trixie would like a white mocha latte!" She proclaimed, almost standing in her seat. The waiter nodded and trotted off, only to soon return with both of their drinks. The two of them nodded their thanks, and he left the two alone.

Trixie magicked her drink to her mouth to take a sip before taking a quick sip. "Delightful!" She praised, setting it back down.

"Well not as delightful as you are," Starlight said, holding back a cackle of laughter.

"Pffft. That was incredibly cheesy," Trixie commented, trying to laugh more than she already was.

"Well, that may be so, but that doesn't mean it was wrong," Starlight replied, taking a sip from her tea.

Trixie blushed lightly, waving her hoof and averting her gaze, her eyes closed. "Well, of course T-Trixie knows this," She spluttered, continuing the hoof motion momentarily before placing it back where it had been. She looked to Starlight, a smile on her face. "But I appreciate the compliment," She purred, breaking her usual third-person for a moment. She stopped and thought for a a few seconds before continuing, "Trixie is meant to be the flirtatious one, though!" She used her magic to lift Starlight from the table and pulled her into a kiss. After a few moments, she brought her back to the table. Starlight's face flushed red.

"You're magic has improved!" She blurted, not immediately sure what to say. "I mean- we're in public! ...But that's fine because this is a date!"

Trixie chortled. "You sure are flustered."

"Well I wasn't expecting that!"

"But you liked it," She teased.

"Yeah, yeah. I know," She said, chuckling a little. She noticed the both of them had already finished their drinks. The waiter returned to them, asking for the pay. Starlight began to search her bag.

"There's no need, Starlight! Trixie asked you out, so she'll pay the bits!" Trixie magicked the money over to him, and he took it, walking off. Starlight thanked her.

"Would you like to go for a walk? That feels like that'd be a nice follow up," Starlight offered.

Trixie nodded with excitement. "The weather was quite cool, so that would be quite relaxing!" She hopped up from her seat and began to prance toward the door, and Starlight quickly got up to follow her. Trixie opened the door. It was raining out.

"I had no idea it would be raining!" She squeaked, looking outside. "If you don't want to take a walk now I'd understand."

"Nonsense!" Trixie chirped. "Trixie loves the rain!" She jumped outside, looking behind her to see if Starlight was going to continue with her.

"Oh, great! I do, too. For some reason I assumed you wouldn't be a fan," She replied, walking out the door to stand next to Trixie. The two ponies began to walk away from the café, the light rain falling on both of their furs. For around ten minutes, the two ponies were silent, just enjoying their surroundings and each others company. They'd gone down in a trail in a lightly wooded area, admiring the forest life.

They approached a bridge overlooking a river, the sound of the flowing water below them being overtaken by the the rain constantly falling all around them. Trixie and Starlight both went to sit by the railing, and look into the beautiful water-way below.

"This spot is perfect," Starlight stated in awe, looking down at the river below. On either side of the water were rocky walls with jagged edges, covered in fresh green moss. The forest wasn't too crowded, with pine trees sprinkling the area. The forest floor was mostly covered in the pine needles besides the neat trail they'd been following. Red and white spotted mushrooms were scattered on the ground in random groups as well.

"Trixie agrees, she is quite pleased we came out here!" Trixie beamed, her eyes wide as she observed the scenery, putting a smile on Starlight's face.

"I'm even more glad that we are here together, this has been a wonderful day," Starlight began, "At first I was a bit nervous to meet up with you, but I don't regret it one bit. Neither of them had made eye contact yet, just peacefully watching below them.

"Nervous? With Trixie?" She titled her head slightly.

"Yes, well, but only because I didn't want to embarrass myself in front of you," She admitted, looking toward her. Trixie looked back before speaking.

"Trixie doesn't think anything you do is embarrassing," She comforted, trying to give her a reassuring smile.

"Yes, I know, it's hard not to worry over silly things."

"Trixie can't relate to that, really. But she still will be here to help you anyway she can!" She bubbled, her eyes sparkling with sincerity.

"Thanks, Trix, I really appreciate that."

"Of course! Trixie w-" Her sentence was cut short by a gasp of surprise. Starlight looked over to where her gaze was, it had stopped raining. A rainbow stretched over, both sides visible, beyond the bridge and shown through the trees.

"It's a sign!" Trixie declared simply.

"A sign? For what?"

"That this was the perfect date!" She said, looking back at Starlight from her current view of the rainbow.

"Did we really need a rainbow to determine that?" Starlight questioned.

Trixie thought for a moment, softly tapping her off on the wood below her. "Nope! But it made it better!"

Starlight chuckled, then the silence from earlier returned to them. It wasn't an awkward silence, but it was peaceful. It had slowly started to become dark, concluding the day. Starlight spoke up.

"I hate to ruin the moment per say, but I must be on my way. Thank you so much for today, Trixie."

"Trixie understands. See you tomorrow. Starlight!"

Author's Notes:

I had to rewrite a little chunk of this
because I didn't save. ✌✌

Hope you enjoyed! Hopefully this will be more well received than my darker fics, lol.

You could likely tell, but the ending was a bit rushed. I kind of lost my motivation half way through this, but I hope it isn't all that bad!
