Where Loyalty Lies 2: Life as Shadowbolts

by Timeman202

Rainbow Dash and Soarin's lives as the newest Shadowbolts

The tales of Rainbow Dash and her new coltfriend Soarin in the eight years leading up to the future of things. Together, these two lovebirds will work with Lightning Dust and the rest of the Shadowbolts. Along the way, the Shadowbolts will make many dreams come true, but one in particular is special to to the rainbow maned Pegasus.

Addtional Information: This story takes place during the eight year gap between Chapter 6 and the Epilogue of my story Where Loyalty Lies - Fimfiction and as such, is technically a sequel to that story. It is VERY heavily recommneded you read the original story before jumping in here, though you only have to read up to chapter 6 (epilogue is meant as an aftermath of this story). I figured I make this so people who read the original story would have some of the questions from the epilogue answered. Amongst these, how Scootaloo was able to fly.

Tag Information: It's worth noting that I have tagged every recurring character I could, but there are some others I couldn’t, such as the rest of the Main 6 and the rest of the CMC. Sometimes I hate the five character tag limit. There are going to be many drama focused chapters, but just like with the character limit, there's a tag limit of three blue tags, and apparently, I've used up my three on that front. Oh well. Just know that Drama is a genre tag on this as well. To bypass this, I'll label each chapter with a character tag and general genre tag alongside the actual chapter title.

Shadowbolts: Romance/Slice of Life - Family

"Gang way!" Rainbow Dash said as she flew through the Shadowbolt headquarters to the stunt field.

"Gah. Rainbow Dash...you don't have to rush so much." Lightining Dust said as Rainbow Dash arrived. Soarin was already there as well as Wild Winds.

"Sorry. I wanted to be early for the first day of my first full week with Soarin here." Rainbow Dash said.

"I know you did, but did you have to dash so fast? Your rushing speed gives most pegasi a run for their money." Wild Winds said.

"Well Rainbow Dash is able to pull of a Sonic Rainboom." Soarin said.

"Hey, I just realized I never asked. Soarin, why are you by chance related to Wild Winds by any chance?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"What? No! We never met until Lightning Dash's whole plan to stop Spitfire from using Plan Omega." Wild Winds said.

"Yeah. I honestly don't know why Wild Winds also has the last name of winds. I know my family tree." Soarin said.

"Sorry. I've been meaning to ask for a while." Rainbow Dash said.

"Don't sweat it. I bet there are others who think we are related when I can guarantee you, we're not." Wild Winds said. Rainbow Dash chuckled in response.

"Your pretty chill about the 'romance in the ranks' thing." Rainbow Dash said.

"That's more so because of my father. He always said..." Lightning Dust began.

"Romance can be exist between co-workers, you just got to find the right balance between family and work." Lightning Strike suddenly said as he approached everyone.

"Hi dad." Lighting Dust said. Rainbow Dash saluted.

"Greeting sir." Rainbow Dash said. Strike laughed.

"At ease Danger." Lightning Strike said.

"So about the rush thing..." Rainbow Dash started.

"Nah it's fine. I remember my first time rushing to meet the love of my life for our first week of work together." Lightning Strike said. "So I can understand your enthusiasm. Much more then you think." He added.

"Wait you met Lightning Dust's mother at work?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"And then 2 years later, I was happily married to the mare. Another year after, my baby girl was born. So trust me when I say this Danger, I am perfectly fine with co-worker romance. Me and my wife managed to have an understanding when it came to raising our child. Things would've been much better for Lightning Dust if Spitfire's father hadn't mucked things up for me." Lightning Strike said.

"But nothing like that is going to effect me and Soarin though...right?" Rainbow Dash asked.

"I'm not saying it'll be an easy time, but that's a topic for another day." Lightning Strike said. "After all, your relationship is only beginning." He added.

"Your too kind sir." Rainbow Dash said.

"I made the rules about co-worker romance being okay for a reason within the Shadowbolts. I wanted my fliers not to be scared to date within the ranks. And would understand if some of them needed a few months to get things ready for their child. And in the cases where their husband or wife comes from outside the Shadowbolts, I wanted their significant other to have free backstage passes. Also telling the media that my fliers are ponies first, celebrities second helps in that case too. Helps the media from objectifying their spouses." Lighting Strike said.

"That's way different then the Wonderbolts. The higher-ups didn't care." Soarin said.

"But I do. I guess you could say, Rainbow Dash, that it's my way of giving the Shadowbolts my own kind of loyalty." Lightning Strike said.

"You've always been the kind of guy who gives back in his own way." Rainbow Dash said.

"Well as I've always said, some things never change. But others do." Lightning Strike said.

"Others do..." Rainbow Dash said. "Hey...there is something I was hoping you guys could help me with." She said.

"Name it." Lighting Dust said. "Your one of us, of course we'll do all we can to help you out with anything you need." She added.

"Let me tell you some things then..." Rainbow Dash said.

Scootaloo sighed. She wondered when Rainbow Dash would have some free time to train her now that she's part of the Shadowbolts. But she was dedicated. She wanted to fly. And hopefully, Rainbow Dash could help her.

"Yo Squirt." Rainbow Dash's voice came from behind the young pegasus filly. Scootaloo turned around and gasped.

"Rainbow Dash!" Scootaloo said before leaping into her idol's arms.

"Sorry I wasn't by for so long. But I'm here now." Rainbow Dash said.

"How did you get time off?" Scootaloo asked.

"Didn't exactly get time off. Hop on my back squirt, time for you to meet the Shadowbolts. And an old friend of mine." Rainbow Dash said. "...People who can help." She added.

"Well if you say so." Scootaloo hopped on Rainbow Dash's back.

"Hold on Scoots." Rainbow Dash said and dashed off back to Shadowbolt HQ with Scootaloo in tow.

A few minutes later Rainbow Dash landed right back at Shadowbolt's training area.

"This is the filly?" Lightning Strike asked. "Wait...her eye color..." She added.

"Whoa..." Scootaloo was in aw of the Shadowbolts.

"If she seems a little out of it...it's her first time." Rainbow Dash said, smiling.

"It's understandable Danger." Lightning Dust said. "So, your the one Rainbow 'Danger' Dash was talking about. What's your name?" Lightning Dust asked.

"My name is Scootaloo miss." Scootaloo said.

"Ha. She's got your behavior, but she's young. Sure she's not your little sis?" Lightning Dust asked.

"Sometimes, I wish she was." Rainbow Dash said.

"It's a close realtive." Lighting Strike said. "Those eyes...it's unmistakable, but the resemblence is quite uncanny. Tell me, little one, your great grandmother, she wouldn't have had been Firefly would it?" He asked.

"Yeah. How do you know that?" Scootaloo asked.

"Well...then you and Rainbow Dash are closer then you think. Cousins actually. Though your grand parents are half-siblings." Lighting Strike said.

"What's that supposed to mean?" Rainbow Dash said.

"Means that you and she share the same great grandfather. After his original wife fell to a hydra beast, Firefly was there for your great grandfather, Rainbow Dash. Firefly had a child, and then they had a child, which resulted in Scootaloo here. Which means that I know of her condition, and how to fix it without surgery." Lighting Strike said.

"Condition?" Scootaloo asked.

"Your wings are a bit small for a filly your age, but I know of a way to make them grow to their proper form and then grow with you as you age. All I ask, is that you trust me." Lighting Strike said.

"I trust him Scoots. You can too." Rainbow Dash said.

"Alright then." Scootaloo said. "I have a dream to fly, and I'll do what it takes." She added.

"Good." Lighting Strike said. "But it won't be easy." He added.

"Wouldn't be worth it if it was easy." Scootaloo said with a smirk.

"Defiantly related." Lightning Dust said.
