Chapter 1: A Renewal of Purpose

-A Renewal of Purpose-

By: Niko Zafiris

The Autobots are living peacefully among the ponies of Equestria: from Skyfire teaching young Pegasi how to fly, to Ironhide escorting foals back home. The leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime, was drawn to this land because it is an easy target for the evil Decepticons, who desire to harness the magical energy and convert it into Energon. If this were to happen, the ponies would suffer the consequences of being stripped of their powers and falling under enslavement. To Optimus Prime’s amazement, he found lifeforms that spread peace, harmony, love, and friendship: the very things he fights for with his spark.

Optimus converses with Twilight in her throne room.

“Wow, you Cybertronians are amazing!” Twilight complemented.

“Aw, we aren’t that extraordinary.” Optimus replied in a friendly tone.

“Yes, you are: You repaired a dam, stopped a flood, put out a forest fire, and found medical equipment that was lost ten years ago!” Twilight listed.

“We are only doing what is right, your majesty.” Optimus ingratiated himself.

“Please, call me Twilight.” She requested.

It was then that a Volkswagen Beetle drove into the room and transformed. It was the Autobot Mini-car named Bumblebee.

“Omega Supreme has arrived with Ratchet’s medical supplies, and is currently being unloaded Optimus.” He reported.

“Good work Bumblebee.” Optimus commended.

Then Bumblebee turned towards Twilight.

“Greetings, your highness.” He spoke as he kneeled.

“No need for that, Bumblebee. She is treating us as equals. Her name is Twilight.” Optimus commented.

“Forgive me your high…uh, Twilight.” Bumblebee corrected himself as he walked away.

“Speaking of Omega Supreme, is something wrong ? Every time I see him, I see depression, anger, and sorrow.” Twilight asked.

“Well, over 9,000,000 years ago, on our home planet Cybertron, while it was in its golden age before the war, Omega Supreme was a guardian of an entire city that glimmered. It was called ‘Crystal City’. He lived peacefully until Megatron made his first move. A group of Decepticons tricked him into leaving his post. Once he realized he’d been fooled, he ran back, but it was too late. Crystal City was destroyed, and he watched the city he loved collapse before him. Thus, he wanted revenge, and that is why he’s always upset.” Optimus explained.

“That’s awful.” Twilight commented sympathetically.

“I know.” Optimus said mournfully.

Then, Twilight realized something.

“Wait a minute! You said that city was made of crystal, right?” Twilight said.

“Yes, why do you ask?” Optimus replied.

“Because I just got a great idea!” Twilight replied with a big smile across her face.

Optimus had a confused expression on his face.

“And what might that be?” Optimus inquired.

“Meet me at the train station.” She directed.

Then Twilight teleported away. Optimus was stroking his face-plate, curious about what she was thinking.

“Ultra Magnus, I’m putting you in charge until I return.” Optimus commanded.

“I won’t let you down, Prime.” Magnus replied.

Then Optimus left. A red Lamborghini rolled up to Ultra Magnus and transformed. It was the Autobot car named Sideswipe.

“We’ve finished unloading the supplies, Magnus.” Sideswipe reported.

“Good, now let’s start opening everything.” Magnus ordered.

Magnus looked up at Omega Supreme.

“We’ll be good on supplies for the next few months Omega, you should rest.” Magnus informed.

“KINDNESS: APPRECIATED.” Omega replied.

Waiting excitedly, Twilight thought about Omega Supreme, when Optimus arrived.

“Where are we traveling to, Twilight?” Optimus wondered.

“I want it to be a surprise, just follow the train. I need to go get a ticket first.” Twilight said.

“No, you don’t.” Optimus said cheerfully.

Twilight realized what he meant, and blushed.

“Heh heh, silly me.” She said.

Optimus transformed into his disguise mode, a Freightliner cab over engine semi-truck. As his trailer rolled up-and connected to him, he opened his driver-side door. Twilight climbed in and sat down as Optimus closed his door.

“Fasten your seat belt, the road might get a little bumpy.” Optimus admonished.

Optimus started driving.

“Let’s just follow the tracks to save time.” Optimus suggested.

“Good idea.” Twilight agreed.

The long drive seemed like days, but was only a matter of hours. As they were coming close to their destination, Twilight spoke up.

“There it is Optimus, just up ahead.” She pointed out.

Optimus stopped at the front entrance. Twilight got out, and then Optimus transformed.

“Well, what do you think?” Twilight asked.

Optimus was speechless.

“It’s…it’s a city made of crystal. What are the odds?” Optimus awed.

“C’mon! Let’s go to the castle! I know the princess!” Twilight guided.

As they were making their way to the castle, the ponies were staring at Optimus. They had never seen something so giant, so mechanical. Optimus didn’t mind their gawking. They stood in front of the conveniently ginormous double doors. The guards granted access.

“Follow me to the throne room!” Twilight said excitedly.

They eventually made their way to the giant doors to the throne room, then stopped.

“Perhaps I should wait out here. I don’t want to startle the princess.” Optimus suggested.

”I understand, Optimus.” Twilight complied.

Twilight walked in. Optimus could just barely hear their voices through the door, it was something about ladybugs. A few minutes had passed until Twilight called.

“Okay, come in now!” She instructed.

He stepped inside and approached the princess.

“I am Optimus Prime, leader of the Autobots.” He introduced himself.

“I am princess Mi Amore Cadenza, but you can call me Cadence. Twilight told me everything about you Optimus, so what brings you here?” The princess introduced herself.

“I am here because Twilight has an idea concerning one of my Autobots.” Optimus explained.

“I bet you’re starting to catch on.” Twilight said with a smirk.

“Who is the Autobot, and what’s the idea?” Cadence asked.

Optimus then proceeded to tell Cadence the sad story of Omega Supreme.

“What a tragedy...” Cadence commented, with a look of concern.

“My idea was to make him guardian of the Crystal Empire.” Twilight advised.

“After a story like that, I can’t say ‘no’. You have my word, Optimus,” Cadence promised.

“Thank you, Cadence.” Optimus said.

“What’s our first step?” Twilight questioned.

“Nothing, let my Autobots do all of the work.” Optimus answered.

Optimus then began using his Comm Link.

“Bumblebee, Jazz, Ironhide, Red Alert, Smokescreen, Inferno, Hoist, Grapple. I need all of you to bring supplies to my location. I’m sending my coordinates now.” Optimus commanded.

“What about Omega Supreme?” Ironhide asked.

“Don’t bring him here, this is a surprise for him. Over and out.” Optimus confirmed.

“Groovy.” Jazz chimed in.

“You said it, Jazz!” Bumblebee replied.

“You heard the boss! Let’s get some supplies and roll out!” Ironhide said with enthusiasm.

“It’s getting late, do you know where your room is?” Cadence asked.

“Yes Cadence.” Twilight responded.

“Don’t you need somewhere to sleep, Optimus?” Cadence asked.

“No, thank you. We Transformers don’t require sleep.” Optimus explained.

“Good night, Optimus.” Twilight cheerfully said, as she and Cadence went off to their rooms.

Two crystal guards looked at each other, frightened. They did not know anything about Autobots or Decepticons, nor did they trust them.

“Does this mean we take orders from him?” The orange guard asked his friend.

“afraid so.” said the blue guard.

Then, at midnight, the group of eight Autobots arrived.

“What’s the plan, Prime?” Ironhide asked.

“Ironhide, old friend, we are building a second base of operations.” Optimus informed.

“Well, what are we waiting for? Let’s get started!” Grapple said eagerly.

“That’s what I like to hear, Grapple.” Optimus approved.

“We have everything we need, Prime! We have Energon, alloy, research equipment, and building materials for weapon upgrades.” Bumblebee reported.

“Good, bring everything into the castle and we’ll get started.” Optimus commanded.

The Autobots soon had gotten organized and ready.

“Okay Autobots, we’ve got until 8A.M.. Everyone is sleeping, so let’s get this done quickly and quietly. Let’s go.” Optimus commanded.

The Autobots began construction on a new telletran super computer first; their highly advanced tools making little to no noise. Grapple inspected the blueprints, and Bumblebee relayed Grapple’s orders of orientation, and Optimus inspected their good teamwork. All the work had been completed by 7A.M. and Optimus looked at his team with great satisfaction.

“Fantastic work everyone. You all deserve a break. Sit back and have some Energon.” Optimus congratulated.

Then Optimus went to the throne room to talk to the princesses, while the Autobots each picked up an Energon cube and began congratulating one another.

“You were great, Bumblebee!” Ironhide commended.

“Aw shucks, Ironhide! All I did was repeat whatever Grapple was saying.” Bumblebee replied humbly.

“And without that, everything would be a mess!” Jazz added.

Then Ironhide spoke up.

“I’m not that good when talkin’, I’m better at bustin’ Deceptichops! But I will say that we make a great team in every situation and this ain’t only for Prime, this is also for Omega Supreme as well!” Ironhide said, piecing his speech together.

Then Ironhide raised his Energon cube.

“FOR OMEGA SUPREME!” Ironhide toasted.

Then the other Autobots followed suit.

“OMEGA SUPREME!!!” Everybody toasted.

Then they clashed their Energon cubes together. Optimus entered the throne room, ready to tell the princesses the news.

“Good morning, Twilight, Cadence.” Optimus greeted them.

“Good morning, Optimus!” Cadence exclaimed, as Twilight sipped her morning coffee.

“All the construction has been completed.” Optimus informed.

“Wow, you work fast!” Cadence said, amazed.

“We are used to strict time limits.” Optimus stated.

“What do we need to do now?” Twilight questioned.

“All that’s left is to tell Omega Supreme to come here.” Optimus answered.

Then Optimus activated his Comm Link.

“Omega Supreme…come in. I need you to come to my coordinates. This is something we need to show you, and I would like you to walk, just so you can think about it. And one more thing, speak naturally, so that our pony friends can understand you.” Optimus instructed.

“AFFIRMATIVE, OPTIMUS PRIME.” Omega Supreme responded.

“Won’t he take a long time by walking?” Twilight questioned.

“Nonsense Twilight, he’s faster than he looks.” Optimus answered.

Hours passed as Omega Supreme was approaching his destination. He was still thinking about what Optimus said.

“What is Prime talking about? What would Optimus want to show me?” Omega wondered.

Omega was still deep in thought until…he gasped at what appeared over the horizon. He could not believe his optics.

“Is this…no, it can’t be…CRYSTAL CITY!?” Omega spoke out loud.

His spark warmed at the sight of the Crystal Empire. He walked slowly and carefully to the castle and saw Optimus, Cadence, and Twilight on the balcony. He walked up to them, happy about what he sees.

“Optimus…I don’t know what to say…it’s beautiful.” Omega said.

“I knew you’d like it, old friend.” Optimus replied.

Twilight walked up alongside Optimus.

“Optimus, I bet you and Cadence have something to say.” Twilight announced.

“Indeed, you are right.” Optimus agreed.

Optimus and Cadence looked at each other and nodded. Then they looked at Omega Supreme.

“Omega Supreme, we declare you as guardian of the Crystal Empire.” They declared simultaneously.

Omega’s mouth drooped open, then became a big open smile as Energon tears leaked from his optics.

“Optimus…thank you.” Omega said.

“You’re welcome, old friend, and don’t worry about any threats distant from here. There will be other Autobots stationed here to go scout ahead at your command.” Optimus assured.

Twilight was as happy as everyone else, until she spotted something in the distance. She gasped.

“Everyone! Look!” She shouted.

“Chrysalis and her changelings!” Cadence identified sternly.

Optimus looked at Omega Supreme.

“You know what to do.” Optimus nodded.

Omega nodded, and approached Chrysalis and her changelings. Pointing his laser arm at them, he spoke in a threatening tone.

“YOU SHALL NOT HARM THIS CRYSTAL CITY!” Omega warned them.

Then he fired a powerful, yet painless laser beam at them, launching Chrysalis and her changelings miles away. The citizens were amazed at what they had just witnessed. One of the deadliest of threats to the Crystal Empire, defeated with one shot. All the citizens cheered and celebrated for their new guardian.

Moments later, a festival was beginning. All the Autobots were there enjoying every minute of it. Omega Supreme was resting outside the city in his alternate mode, consisting of: a large rocket base, a rocket, and a tank. Optimus, Cadence, Twilight, and Spike the dragon stood in the town square.

“Spike, take a letter...ready Optimus?” Twilight said.

“Yes Twilight.” Optimus answered.

As Spike pulled out a quill and paper, Optimus started his speech.

“There will be times when we lose something close to our hearts, but faith will lead us to something greater. With the Decepticons still on the loose, this fight is far from over. The Autobots will always be there to protect you. I am Optimus Prime, and I send this message to princess Celestia…I will stay…you are safe.” Optimus concluded.
