Equestria Girls: Costume Conundrum

by FireworksPOP

Chapter 1

Chapter 1

Sunset picked up the cup she had dropped when Applejack had popped her head out of the costume and walked off into the crowed with wide eyes and heart racing.

I will never un see that.

Applejack had once tried to get her to do that, but she had refused, it wasn't as bad when people weren't inside it. She wondered through the crowed trying to avoid her pony impersonating friends. She found herself in the backyard, with a few trees and many, many flowers. Bulk Biceps was that way, once, for at least a month, the kids at school had shipped him with Fluttershy.

She took a deep breath of cold air and let it out slowly, didn't help much, her heart was still racing.

"Sunset?"

"Flash?" Sunset looked around and saw Flash sitting on one of the branches of one of the much bigger trees. "Oh, hey Flash."

"What's wrong?"

"Nothings wrong."

"As I have said before, I have known you since eighth grade, I know when somethings wrong with you my love, rocking that vampire look by the way."

"Thank you, you look pretty good to."

"So what's wrong my sweet? Does it have to do with the fact your friends are dressed up as a pony version of Fluttershy?"

Sunset slowly nodded her head. "Its just a little..."

"Overwelming? Creepy? Reminds you to much of your past?"

"I was going to say spooky, but those work to."

Flash jumped down from the tree and put his arm around her. "You want to talk about it?"

She sighed and looked back at the house, and saw 'pony Fluttershy' through the window. "AHHHH!" Sunset fell backward.

"I'll take that as a yes." Sunset sat up and Flash sat down next to her. "Again, you want to talk about it?"

"Yeah, I mean if you want to listen."

"Your my pony turned human turned demon turned human again girlfriend, of course I want to listen."

"Okay, I guess that costume reminded me of something that happened when I was really little..."

"Ohhh, apples! an exited filly ran back to her mother with a tick-or-treat bag that had an apple inside and a few pieces of candy.

"Oh darling, your the only filly I know that's exited to get fruit on Nightmare Night."

"Mommy! Can I go to the house over there?" Sunset Shimmer nodded toward another house down the street.

"Sure honey, be back in half an hour, dinner will be ready by then"

"Thank you mommy!" Sunset trotted over to the house and on her way pulled out the bright juicy red apple. "And yummy apple here will be dessert, I think I'll give Moon Watcher my candy, she loves candy."

A shadow swooped down from the trees and hissed as it flapped it's wings and landed on her, snatching the apple and flying away with it. She turned and ran after the bat. "Hey! That's my apple!"

The bat let go of it and charged toward her, fangs becoming more visible and the red in it's eyes grew deeper. Sunset curled up and tried to cast a bubble spell around herself but failed to do so in time. The bat flew at her and bit down on her neck. "AHHHHHHH! OW OW OW OW! GET OFF ME!"

Her mother herd her calls and ran to her scaring the bat off. "Honey are you okay?! We need to get you to princess Celestia right now!"

"But wh-"

"We just need to get their, we can skip the rest of trick-or-treat."

"So what happened next?"

"Well, on our way there I started becoming more bat like, fangs, wings, pointed ears, red eyes, by the time we got to the castle I was a complete vampire bat, luckily Celestia saw us out a window and cast some sort of spell on me that reversed the effects and that stuff, after that we went back to town and everpony had been looking for me, and one had fallowed that bat back to a cave not far from there filled with them, they all said because of everything that had happened I had saved them all from becoming what I almost did, every Nightmare night after that I was dressed up as a vampire because it became a time to celebrate that the bats were finally gone and nopony would be turned into one again, it turns out, that we had multiple different ponys go missing over the years, and they had been turned into vampires, I guess that costume just reminded me of how much I loved my old village and my family and neighbor and how much they all cared about me, I made a big mistake leaving without telling anyone were I was going."

"So you still dress up as one on Halloween?"

"Nah, I just wanted to do it this year, last year was a gost, year before that..."

"you were Amy, couples costume, you kept on joking that I was perfect for sonic the hedgehog."

"Pretty easy considering your old hair cut, remember? Everyone at school used to call you sonic instead of Flash."

"You feeling better?"

"Yeah I guess I ju- oh sweet Celestia!"

"What?"

"B-b-bats!"

Flash looked up at the sky. A swarm of bats were flying across the sky, making little shadow's cross the moon. It made sense, nearly becoming a vampire probably had triggered a fear of bats.

"It's okay Sunset, I don't think we have vampire bats here."

"You sure? One of them could be the one from before and found the portal and come through it and find me seeking revenge or something!"

"Considering that was years ago, I'm thinking that bat is either dead or a really lazy grandpa."

Sunset watched the sky for a moment nervously then giggled a bit. "Your a dork."

"I know, I'm a goofball dork who constantly for some reason wants you to call him stuff like that."

Sunset fell backward laughing. "Okay! Yes you are a dork and a wacky goofball!"

Flash lied down next to her and chuckled. "So you good now?"

"Yeah, thanks for that. I still don't think I can go back in there and see that costume again."

"We can stay out here and I can tell you so many awful jokes that you start laughing uncontrollably."

"Yeah, sure, and Flash? Your a dorky goofball."

"HA HA. Very funny my Sunshine laughs a lot, you want some candy?"

"What candy?"

Flash smirked before climbing back up into the tree, a few seconds pas before he jumped down again holding a orange paper bag. "Left overs from the trick-or-treater's a few hours ago, while my parents made me hand out candy while they went to a Halloween dance club." He smiled again. "I remember mint chocolate being your favorite."

"You seriously remember that? Flash we haven't spent Halloween together since the tenth grade and this is our first since we got back together."

"What can I say? I remember a lot of things, even everything that happened on my first birthday."

"Did you slam your head into the cake?"

"Nooooo.....Why?"

"No reason whatsoever!"

He sat down next to her. "I have a felling-"

Sunset face palmed. "Me and my big mouth."

"C'mon! You have to tell me that story!"

She rolled her eyes. "Fine."

"Happy birthday Sunset!" Sunsets mother happily said, levitating the red frosted cake with yellow icing roses on it and set it down on the table.

Sunset tilted her head and looked back at her mother. "Whasolavs?"

"It's a cake sweetie." Sunset still looked puzzled.

"You eat it." Her father tried to explain.

"Caloooso ca?" She looked from her cake to her parents.

"You eat it, it goes in your mouth." Sunny Side, her mother said, still trying to explain.

Sunset couldn't have misunderstood that more. She slammed her face into the cake causing red frosting to go everywhere and hit her parents, her mother had a yellow frosting rose on top of her nuzzle, while her father had a red frosting beard.

Sunset lifted her head and dizzily shook it for a minuet before looking back at her parents. "Aveacava?"

"Uhhh.... at least she sort of ate it. Sunny Side whispered.

"I told you we should have gotten cookies instead."

By the time she finished with her story, Flash was laughing so hard she thought he might pass out.

"And you call me a goofball?!"
