Twilight and her friends get sent to an ancient empire that was believed to be an myth. Twilight and her friends are supposed to stop the evil pony, but Twilight has other ideas...
Twilight Sparkle and her friends are sent to an empire most pony had forgotten, and believed to be a myth. They had gotten the order to protect the empire and help Shining Armor and princess Mi Amore Cadenza. Twilight meets King Sombra, and he tells her the truth... or rather his truth, but Twilight joins him nonetheless. Later, they become married and start to rule the Crystal Empire, and soon the entire pony nations.

The Crystal Empire
Twilight Sparkle was no ordinary pony. No, she was much more than that. She is princess Celestia's most faithful student. She also is one of the element bearers, which she had achieved when she and her friends had defeated Nightmare Moon. Twilight didn't know why, but she always feelt like she had made a mistake that day. Twilight had obviously just shrugged the feeling of, but it would constantly pop up every time she thought of that memory.
She and her best friends; Applejack, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity and Spike who is also her number one assistant, where on the way to an empire that were believed to be an myth, at least to the ponies that are alive today, apart from princess Celestia and Luna that is. Twilight was excited to see this empire as she had never heard of it at all.
They were on the train talking about the empire how it would look like, and how they were gonna help the princess and prince. Twilight chuckled softly, her brother is the prince and her sister-in-law is the princess. Twilight had been at their wedding, but there had been som complications...
Spike had one day ran towards Twilight and her friends who were having an picnic at an tree near Sweet Apple Acres. Twilight at first had been confused because she didn't know who was getting married, but then Spike sheepishly gave Twilight the letter she should have read first. Her eyes had widen when she read her brothers name. They had rushed to the train station, and headed towards Canterlot. When they got there, Twilight confronted her brother about not sending the invitation or telling her personally as a 'family' thing. She would have felt more happy if it was directly from him, but there was an threat and that was why they were cautious. Twilight never faulted him for that, since it did make sense. Twilight had realized quickly that the Cadence they were working to help wasn't the real Cadence, Twilight tried telling the others but they didn't believe her. Twilight, then found the real Cadence, after being sent to an cave that was under Canterlot Castle. Twilight came with the real Cadence, obviously to the confusion to everypony else. It was revealed the fake Cadence was an Changeling queen and wanted love so they could be fed. Twilight had scoffed inside her mind when Applejack had apologised for not believing her. Twilight had wanted Queen Chrysalis to win, but sadly, she lost.
Twilight chuckled inside her mind at the memory. She just wished Chrysalis had won. She could have then lived freely.
Two hours later, and Twilight walked out of the train together with her friends. There were pony guards that walked up to them. Thwy were light purple-crystal armor that covered the hooves, chest and head. One of them were bulkier in the muscles and Twilight knew it was her brother. Twilight walked up to him elegantly and hugged him quickly.
"Hello BBBFF, I would have hugged you longer, but I feel an evil presence." Twilight said, making Shining look at her surprised, which then turned into an proud smile.
"That is right, there is an evil presence here that is trying to get into the empire. In other words, we have to move." Shining said, making everypony nod their heads and started to walk quickly towards the border of the empire.
When they were halfway there, they were attacked by some shadow-smoke like thing. Then they heard an evil voice tell them. "You can't keep me out forever. I can let you live, as long as I get the empire." Shining turned and shot an spell towards the smoke, only to be damaged with an spell that grew small black crystals.
Twilight liked this. The dark magical aura, made her feel welcome. She was snapped out of her thoughts when Applejack shouted; "Twilight! Come on!" Which made Twilight turn around and run after them.
They ran the last part with such speed, they believe they broke an galaxy record. Twilight was disappointed that she couldn't stay in the dark presence for longer. She always felt like she was home when she felt an dark aura around her. The others believed it to be her being in shock, which she nodded towards Applejack, lying infront of her face. It was by no means, a d easy task.
"Come on!" Shining said, catching everypony's and dragons attention. "The palace is not far from here.
They nodded, and followed him. When they had reached the palace, they saw guards that were crawling all over the place. They walked through the amazing crystal-made palace, to which Spike fell in love with because it was one large gem, and Rarity because it belonged to royalty.
When they reached the throne room, they saw the two large thrones that princess Cadence and prince Shining Armor use. Princess Cadence sat on the throne looking very weak, and thin. She keep using her horn to protect the empire from the evil presence. She walked down towards Twilight and they sang their song and danced.
"Sunshine sunshine! Lady-bugs awake! Clap your hooves and do a little shake!" Cadence and Twilight chorused while doing their dance. They laughed when they finished, Cadence's being genuine, and Twilight's being forced but nopony noticed.
Twilight tuned out from all the talking her brother and sister-in-law were doing. She had absolutely no interest in helping them in all honesty. She wanted to know who the voice was from the shadow smoke. She knew she would draw suspicion if she asked them, but at the same time maybe not if she asked with curiosity. She was suddenly brought out of her thought when she heard; "Twilight...?" Twilight looked up and around, and saw that everypony was looking at her.
"Oh, I'm sorry, yes?" Twilight said, with an fake sheepish smile.
Her brother and sister-in-law smiled fondly at her and giggled. "I suggested that I lead you to the rooms, then you could try do something to cheer up the Crystal Ponies." Shining said, making everypony agree.
Twilight nodded and followed her brother and friends to their rooms. Twilight's room had been specially made for her. On the floor was her cutiemark that stretched the whole floor, but looked very powerful. He bed was in the middle of the bedroom wall. Her bedsheets also had her cutiemark, that boldly showed the stars. She had two shelves filled with books about the Crystal Empire, which peaked her interest. She sadly didn't have time for that, and quickly left her room. She gathered with her friends at the entrance of the palace, and started to decorate the empire.
A few hours later, thwy were finished. They had started to ask the Crystal Ponies about the Crystal Heart, which they had been informed by Cadence and Shining armor. They had prayed one of the ponies had seen their tyranny ruler hide it. They only had one problem... they didn't know who this 'tyranny ruler' was. The Crystal Ponies refused to speak about him or his name.
Twilight was unsure herself. She suspected that it was most likely an pony that had been lost in time, except for the Princesses. Then Twilight's eyes widened. She remembered princess Celestia talking about a unicorn named King Sombra! How could she have forgotten?
AHAHAHAHAHAHA
Twilight heard the laugh, but it sounded so far away. She looked around the room, but she didn't see anypony. She was currently in her room, reading journals that didn't have an author it seemed. She assumed it was King Sombra's, since the writing seemed to be from an ruler of sorts.
"I see that you are interested in my origins." A voice said, which made Twilight shiver, but she wanted to feel this darkness. It just felt so right! "I'm not interested in talking about my whole upbringing, but I will tell you one thing; were not so different from each other. You are a beautiful mare, that thrive for knowledge and power. You definitively seem more comfortable in the dark than the light, which proves that you are on the wrong side.
Twilight smiled. King Sombra was right. That is what she truly wants. She wants knowledge and power. "Yes, that is correct. Where are you? I don't see you, and I don't think Cadence put down the protections around the empire." Twilight said, making Sombra chuckle.
"You have natural darkness in your heart. That is how I'm speaking to you, through your head. You are correct, that little princess hasn't put down the shields, but that will happen when she runs out of power." Sombra said, making Twilight slowly grin.
Twilight felt like she was where she belonged. She didn't care about 'saving' the ponies or the empire, she wanted King Sombra to win. Her darkness had began when she started studying dark magic, then she stopped using light magic altogether. She did do it around the princesses or somepony who knows magic well.
"I want to help you my King." Twilight said, bowing in respect of the king.
"That my subject, I know. I will let you also. The Crystal Heart is on top of the palace, I need you to destroy it completely. Sombra said, making Twilight bow once more.
"Yes my liege." Twilight said, from her bowing position.
AHAHAHAHAH
Twilight heard the fading laughter until the room was completely silent. She closed her eyes and then opened them. Her eyes were green, and she had purple spark flowing from the side of the eyes.
The Crystal Heart
Twilight had started running towards the throne room of the crystal palace. She had felt an dark surge around the throne room, but she couldn't pin point where it was. She thinks she might know where it is, but she'll have to use dark magic to do it. Her friends and family where either outside, or on one of the palace balconies.
Twilight ran through the empty corridors, that were blue coloured and had different artifacts as some furniture display. Twilight didn't slow down to admire them. She finally reached the thrown room, not realizing she had caught the attention of Spike. She paced around the throne room, trying to find the dark surge.
"Twilight...?" Spike asked, unsure.
Twilight spun and found her sla- assistant. She looked at him confused, then she realized that he most likely saw her run. She flashed him an friendly smile, and walked towards him.
"Hello Spike, what are you doing here?" Twilight asked, with fake worry.
"Oh! I saw you run through the palace, and i got worried so i ran after you." Spike explained, making Twilight confirm her own suspicion.
Twilight then shocked Spike. She used her magic to turn him into an rock, an ordinary rock. She left him there and made sure nopony could help him. She used her dark magic to open an trap door, Twilight looked down and smile. She watched as an flight of stairs led downwards making Twilight smile an sadistic smile.
She walked down the endless staircase, wondering what would happen when her king is finally free from his banishment. She certainly hoped he'd get married and have a queen by his side. 'I certainly wouldn't mind being his queen.' Twilight thought, to herself. She continued walking down the endless staircase, and finally, she reached the bottom of the stairs. She looked around and saw that there was some sort of door. She felt the dark presence and grinned. She used her magic to open the door, and what she saw surprised her. There was nothing, absolutely nothing. She wondered what this was, it can't be right. She walked through it and all of a sudden she was met with several flights of stairs. She started walking and eventually, reached the top.
She heard an scream, and she looked over the edge and saw her glorious king in his shadow form. Twilight grinned and saw he Crystal Heart. Twilight scowled, and shot an dark blast at it. The heart exploded...
All hope was lost for the empire. King Sombra had returned, it was time for the tyranny rule to start, but not without a fight! King Sombra got his body back from the shadows, and he landed gracefully at the balcony where princess Cadence and prince Shining Armor was. He flashed them an smile that gave them no comfort. He then looked up and saw his loyal follower. Sombra was then attacked by Rainbow Dash, who had tried to hit him with her hooves. Sombra laughed an very mocking and discomforted laugh.
"You can't attack or stop me. You see, there is somepony in this empire that has helped me, and not by mistake either. I hope you find her, i can sense the darkness in her heart." Sombra said, making the main five, Spike, Shining and Cadence gasp.
All of a sudden the doors that were behind them, burst open and Twilight walked in. The others looked relieved that the element of magic was there, while Sombra smiled at her with kindness. Twilight smiled at him, making the others confused. Twilight then walked towards him, and kissed him. Sombra's eyes opened wide, while the others gasped in shock except Cadence. She could feel love, so she felt it the second Twilight saw her beloved king. Twilight stod by Sombra's side, looking like the queen, and perhaps she was.
"I see you got the alicorn princess and her pathetic excuse of a husband." Twilight said, making her sister-in-law and brother look at her with wide eyes. Her friends looked dumbstruck.
"Yes, and i want to thank you for helping me destroy the Crystal Heart. Now, you and i can rule this empire with an iron hoof!" Sombra said, making everypony look at the lavender mare in shock. They looked absolutely devastated and betrayed.
"Twilight fight it! Your being corrupted!" Rainbow Dash said, hoping that Twilight was corrupted. Deep inside, she knew it was the truth, they had lost an friend to an evil tyrant.
"Oh, i'm sadly not corrupted Rainbow Crash. But i certainly wouldn't mind." Twilight said, looking at Sombra with heart eyes.
The others didn't know whether to be surprised or disgusted. Sombra took Twilight's hoof and kissed her on the lips, locking with each other. Shining jumped from his wife's side, and charged at the kissing couple. Twilight used her magic to hold her brother stil. Twilight and Sombra ended the kiss and they looked into each others eyes. They smiled at one another, then they looked at their little problem.
"Well, since i'll be the queen i'll decide what happens to you. Well, we'll have to send Cadence into the lowest part of the dungeons because she is powerful, and she'll have company of princess Celestia and Luna when the time is right. The main five we'll just send to the dungeons. Shining Armor. Well, i don't know what to do with you. Eh, probably send you to the dungeons." Twilight explained making the mares and stallion look at Twilight in shock.
Sombra chuckled at his soon-to-be-wife. "I agree. Well, if we corrupt your brother then perhaps he'll work as an general. Then again, he reminds me of alicorns, to stubborn for their own good."
Sombra all of a sudden, without warning, sent an spell in the air that had a shade of green, black, and purple. The spell spread and became larger. The spell corrupted the minds of the Crystal Ponies. They became loyal to Sombra and his regime. His military were picking up swords, bow and arrow, any sort of weapon to prepare themselves. The ponies on the balcony stared in horror at King Sombra. Twilight chuckled, and sent an spell that would place them in cells. Sombra looked at Twilight approvingly and kissed her. She happily returned it and smiled evilly.
"King Sombra has returned, its time for war." Twilight said, out loud. Sombra laughed.
Canterlot Castle
Princess Celestia and Luna was starring at the sky, and saw nothing but darkness. They sighed, Sombra must have won. Celestia couldn't help but feel like there is something bigger in the picture she doesn't know about. All of a sudden she thought she heard something

Manipulation
Twilight and Sombra looked over the balcony and saw how the Crystal Ponies looked around in fear of their ruler. Sombra smiled a smile that only made his subjects gulp in fear. He used an manipulation spell that made them follow all of his orders. Twilight grinned and helped him as much as she could.
Sombra snickered at the faces of the pony princess that was the princess of love, how had she lost to somepony who couldn't feel love? Or at least to everypony's and creatures knowledge. In fact he could, he was just scared of being rejected again. Twilight looked at him an smiled an encouraging smile, that made his heart beat faster.
"Ponies of the Crystal Empire! Today, I have returned. I'm back everypony and creature who is watching or listening to this. We will rebuild our glorious nation from scratch and perfect it. We will rebuild our military so we can go to war against Celestia and her sister!" Sombra explained, making the manipulated ponies cheer in excitement.
Twilight was amazed by the speech he gave. She wondered how it was possible he was still single. If she heard something like that, she would be lusting over that pony no matter the gender. She then watched as several ponies formed an hell-march like line. They then saluted King Sombra who gave them a salut himself. Twilight didn't know whether to give them a salut or not, since it wasn't her military to begin with.
"Twilight, i know that this is a very short notice, but would you like to be my Queen? We could rule over everypony, and do whatever we felt like doing." Sombra asked, Twilight who squealed in surprise.
"YES! I'LL MARRY YOU!!" Twilight said, excited.
"Excellent. Ponies of the Crystal Empire! I present now to you, the Queen of the Crystal Empire!" King Sombra said, in a deeper tone than the royal Canterlot voice. The manipulated ponies cheered in excitement which made the King and Queen smile in happiness.
They walked inside to their bedroom, and had some "fun" with each other.
A few hours later, Twilight and Sombra walked into their own throne room. Sombra had made a throne for his queen so she had somewhere to sit. Their throne room was huge and screamed 'power' which made Twilight grin. Sombra on the other hand was looking forward to the wedding with his wife.
Sombra had made armor for his soldiers so they would at least be able to take damage that no normal pony could. Twilight had grinned evilly at that and given Sombra a peck on the cheek.
"So my beautiful queen, how will we reveal to your mentor that you fell in love with the king?" Sombra asked, making Twilight cackle.
"Easy, we start the war and we will have our appearances. That will throw her of guard making her wonder what had happened to the unicorn that was destined for greatness." Twilight said, making Sombra look at her approvingly.
"Smart, that will probably work." Sombra said, but then he realized; "But what if she believes i am manipulating you? That will surely come to her brain if she has one that functions."
"Oh, I'm prepared for that, by the way why do you sound so bitter about Celestia?" Twilight asked, concerned for her husband-soon-to-be.
"Well, Celestia either doesn't realize or doesn't care about her ponies. All villains comes from her, but I am the exception of course. Have you never thought why Celestia has enemies that hate and despise her? Celestia of course is a princess so she will naturally have enemies, but she has enemies that seemed to know her before she took the throne. Which is why i wonder if she knows or simply don't care. Her sister turned into Nightmmare Moon, and she banished her sister right?" Sombra asked, making Twilight nod.
"Actually, how did you know about Nightmare Moon?" Twilight asked, making Sombra smile at her.
"Your observant of my words, I like that. To answer your question, I knew because I was a shadow that could travel anywhere. Sadly, I couldn't use my physicall form so I was still stuck in my shadow form. Celestia might have given you the wrong information if she said I was stuck in the ice, I wasn't I was traveling around as a shadow. Kind of like The Pony Of Shadows, but a little bit different.
Twilight let out an 'oooh' and nodded in understanding, it made total sense to her. Twilight then saw a pegasus fly towards them. The pegasus flew through the window and bowed to his King and Queen.
"My liege, we are prepared for war. The ponies are prepared for destruction and to make Celestia fall to her hooves." The Crystal pegasus said, making Sombra and Twilight smile in approval.
"Yes, start the invasion. Those who does not want to face my wrath joins me, and we can live more peacefully. Sombra said, making his soldier bow low and fly out of the window.
"Well my love, it seems like everything is prepared for battle. Would you like to have your armor?" Sombra asked, making Twilight nod quickly.
Sombra used his magic to summon an armor that was specifically made for his queen. The armor was a darker shade of purple. The chest plate showed her cutiemark and the helmet blocked any views from the enemies, while Twilight could see everything. She had royal shoes that was also dark purple and it made her look like a queen.
Twilight grinned and smiled at her husband-to-be. She gave him a peck on the lips and she watched as their army marched towards Canterlot, preparing themselves for battle. It would be very interesting.
"Well my love, we will go to war against Equestria and soon, we will rule the whole lands with slaves under our hooves." Sombra said, making Twilight grin at him.
"Of course love, now, how about we make a prince? One that could rule in our absence?" Twilight said, making Sombra grin and leading her to their bedroom.
The war has begun, and nopony can stop it. The ones with biggest knowledge is usually the ones that are successful.
Epilogue
The war against Equestria is hard times. The main six had been declared as 'dead' because nopony had heard from them in several months. The war has been going on for several months, six to be exact.
Princess Celestia had a vision about Twilight Sparkle being the wife of Sombra. She at first didn't believe it, but eventually she had to accept that her former pupil was gone. Princess Luna had tried to 'vanquish' the corruption. Sadly, she couldn't take away something that wasn't corrupt in the first place.
Princess Celestia was forced to declare war against the Crystal Empire, even though, she knew those ponies was manipulated. Several ponies around Equestria was shocked that the Crystal Empire was real except the descendents from defectors of King Sombra.
Twilight was pregnant by six months, and was ready to give birth in three months. Sombra was looking forward at being a dad, and Twilight really wanted to be a mother. The Crystal Empire had been 'rebuilt' into a more strong nation, making other nations look 'weak' even though, a lot of ponies and creatures would disagree.
The prisoners had died of from starvation. Twilight didn't care that her old friends were dead, same goes for her brother and sister-in-law. Twilight hoped that she could rule over Equestria together with her husband. Yes, she was a Queen but she wanted to rule the whole of Equestria.
Several cities and towns did everything to support the co-rulers so they could win against King Sombra.
Yes, the darkness was once again awakened.
