Making Muffins!

by Felocity Of Light

Chapter 1: Making Muffins

Derpy is feeling hungry. REALLY hungry. A special kind of hungry. Muffin hungry. Then again, when is Derpy never NOT hungry for muffins? Derpy knows that Carrot Top had left her in charge of the house, and usually Carrot would make her muffins... But honestly, what could possibly go wrong? Derpy was the most responsible pony Derpy knew! She can make her bed every morning without fail! Of course, muffin-making isn't easy, Derpy knows that. But, determined to get her muffins, Derpy gets up from her place on the couch, and wanders outside. She walked nonchalantly down to the marketplace, and runs around, gathering all the ingredients. First stop, Sugarcube Corner! Derpy runs inside and panting, and waits patiently for Pinkie to come out of the back room. Not only does Pinkie come out, she shoots out of the back room, landing upside down against the wall. "Ooh, Derpy!" Pinkie bounces up and grins. "What can I do for you?"

"Um, I'm uh, gonna make muffins!" Derpy stutters. Pinkie looks worriedly at Derpy. Usually Derpy doesn't stutter like that... Hmm. Pinkie thinks to herself. "Well, you'll need flour, sugar, and baking powder for that, won't you?" Pinkie smiles. Derpy nods her head with her Derpy™ grin. "Flour, sugar, baking powder, flour, sugar, baking powder..." Pinkie chants as she bounces off to the back room for the ingredients for Derpy's muffins.

A few minutes pass, and Pinkie returns with the flour, the sugar, and the baking powder. "Here you go, Derpy!" Pinkie giggles. Derpy snatches the ingredients, and goes off to find her next item, which she giggles with a hilariously deep voice:

"EGGS."

Meanwhile, Carrot Top canters into Sugarcube Corner with a list of cake ingredients. "Hey Pinkie, could you get me the dry ingredients on this list?"

Pinkie smiles and says, "Sure thing! Also, Derpy just left, just so you know."

Carrot grins and replies, "I can't wait to surprise her!"

Shelly Yolk, a white, clumsy mare with a pale yellow mane, sits happily next to her egg stand, when a certain grey pegasus falls out of the sky. "Derpy!" Shelly laughs, "how're you holdin' up?"

Derpy smiles and says, "I need eggs!"

Shelly grins, and carefully hooves Derpy a small 2-egg carton. "That'll be 5 bits." Derpy tosses the coins onto the blue cloth that covers Shelly's stand table, to which Shelly fumbles with, and Derpy flies off to get some vegetable oil and vanilla extract from Zecora's new shop, The Dewdrop Shop.
Carrot smiles as she pays for her eggs, watching Derpy fly off to get other ingredients.

Derpy lands in front of the rustic building, and trots inside happily. Zecora smiles and says, "A a great surprise to see you here, but a welcome one, so do not fear. How can I help a friend like you so dear?"

Derpy does her Derpy™ grin again, and blurts, "Muffins!"

Zecora grimaces as cheerfully as ponily possible and asks again, "What can I do for you, my precious little Derpy Hooves?"

Derpy snaps out of her muffin-trance, and replies sheepishly, "I need vegtabley oil and vaninlla extract." Zecora smiles once again and goes to help her find the ingredients. As they were looking, a familiar orange mane is seen around the corner. Derpy pays no mind. Zecora smiles to herself, knowing it's little Derpy's birthday today. Derpy pays her bits, and dashes out of The Dewdrop Shop.

"Oh Carrot Top, thy friend of mine, Derpy has left and all is fine." Zecora calls out, and Carrot Top carries her goods to the front counter.

"I hope Derpy doesn't cause any problems!" Carrot worries.

Ever so quickly after returning home, Derpy rushes inside with all the ingredients and begins putting them in a small bowl. The flour, sugar, and baking powder goes in a bowl with a dash of salt, and Derpy begins to mix, flour flying everywhere.

She then plops an egg into the powdery mix, with some veggie oil and vanilla extract. She mixes quickly, wanting her muffins, and dough flies everywhere, and gets stuck in Derpy's mane.

Then she adds the blueberries, fresh from their garden. And into the muffin tin the dough goes, and the muffins began to cook in the small muffin oven Carrot and Derpy owned.

Derpy looks into the oven, waiting anxiously for her muffins. And the timer dings, the hungry grey pegasus snatched the muffin tin, and began to eat her lovely muffins! Derpy loves her homemade muffins. She makes a mental note to make her muffins herself, even though she knows full well she'll forget.

Then Carrot comes home. Derpy freezes. Carrot smiles at Derpy, knowing what she did, and goes to the kitchen to clean up. Derpy hadn't realized she made a mess; she just wanted her muffins! And so, Derpy apologizes to Carrot Top, with her famous words: "I just don't know what went wrong!"

Carrot reassures her, "It's okay, Derpy, I took a tad longer than I thought I would." Derpy smiles sadly and apologizes again. "I said, it's okay!" Carrot hugs Derpy. "Now, do you wanna make a cake?"

Derpy straightens like a board and blurts, "I forgot it was my birthday!" The two mares break down in laughter. Carrot sobers, and they begin to make the cake. Laughs echo through the house as batter sprays everywhere, and everyone prepares to make an unforgettable party for the best mare in Ponyville: Lil' Miss Derpy Hooves.

Twilight sneaks the glowsticks to the Town Square, while Spike lists off the many party favours they still have to get. Pinkie pulls in with her Super-Mega-Biggest Party Wagon Extraordinaire (SMBPWE) with all the party favours inside. Spike stops as party hats, party blowers, confetti, and streamers shot out into the sky. Rainbow Dash gets hit by a party blower as she flies overhead with the giant tables, which Rarity sets up with her magic fairly quickly. Fluttershy brings in the birds onto their perches outside the Town Hall for their chorus, and Applejack wheels in with a cart full of Apple Family Fritters.

The sun begins to set, and more and more ponies began to show up with dishes of food, like hayburgers, and large bowls of stew. Derpy looks around as everyone in Ponyville had gathered for her birthday party. Carrot comforts Derpy as she begins to cry tears of joy. This is the best party Derpy has ever had. And she cries out, "I just don't know what didn't go wrong!"
