Chapter 1-Life
It was a beautiful autumn day as Derpy Hooves was making her morning rounds. She had gone through this routine almost all her life with minimal changes and everyday would stay on a strict rout that started in Ponyville and ended in the capital city of Canterlot. The amount of mail she usually carried was rather large and tended to be a strain at times, but it paid her bills and kept her daughter Dinky fed.

Had it not been for her mail job, she would most likely be out on the streets with a hungry Dinky since no pony in their right mind would ever hire sompony without proper depth perception. Though she felt she had a decent life, it was hard being a single mom and she never liked to talk about whatever happened to Dinky’s father.

All of her life she was made fun of do to her outlandish eyes. This caused her to have a hard time getting along with others because she was always so defensive. Even her small amount of friends gave her a hard time when it came to them but she had learned to live with them, once in a while they always seemed hurt her mentally, emotionally, and at times physically.

There was however one pony in Ponyville who always seemed to brighten her day, always taking time to thank her and never bringing up anything about her eyes. That pony was none other than the local librarian slash royal student slash savior of equestrian slash possibly most powerful unicorn in ever, Twilight Sparkle.

Derpy would never admit it but she had developed sort of a small crush on the unicorn simply because she was one of the only ponies ever be nice to her. Twilight would ask how her daughter was doing and always make pleasant small talk that in every way seemed to give the grey Pegasus the strength to continue her daily life. Derpy had no idea why she felt the way she did but enjoyed her small chats all the same.

Just once Derpy wished she could have the strength to tell Twilight how she felt, but it was always so hard. Whenever she would look into the violate mares eyes it would cause her to simply melt.

As she approached Twilights library and knocked on the door she was greeted by the mare of her dreams and simply became absorbed into those wonderful eyes and blushed. Even though one of Derpy’s eyes was looking in an opposite direction, she still held a small look of affection for Twilight.

“Hi Derpy, how has your day been?” said Twilight.

Derpy, who could never think straight around Twilight, quickly let out the first words that came to mind.

“Muffins!” said Derpy loudly in an attempt to make Twilight laugh.

“Ha Ha Ha, oh Derpy you always know how to make me laugh in the morning.” Derpy then proceeded to give twilight her mail and leave.

“ Huff ….Another failed attempt to tell her how you feel.”
“Maybe someday?” With that she left and went home.

When she arrived home she was greeted by the happy sight of her daughter playing with her raggedy dolls. She wished with all her heart that she could afford real toys for Dinky but the money was just so hard to come by. Dinky ran at almost the speed of light and tackled her mother with a warm hug.

“Mommy, guess what I made at school today?”

She then proceeded to hand her a crewed foalish drawing made from crayons of what appeared to be a picture of her flying with her mailbag.

“This is wonderful sweetie; I’ll keep it with me on my flight just to remind me of you okay.”

In truth Dinky had brought home tons of these drawings and they all seemed pretty repetitive, but Derpy always encouraged her because Dinky was all she had and she never wanted to see her upset.

“Okay. Do you want to eat dinner now?”

“That sounds like a wonderful idea.”

As they ate dinner Derpy could only ponder what to do about her little filly’s unbelievable appetite and the lack of money she had to pay for it. Thankfully tomorrow was the one day a year that she received her bonus and if she was lucky and everything went the way she wanted, a possible promotion was on the horizon.

“FIRED?!”

“I do apologize Ms. Hooves but we cannot afford any more mishaps.”

“B-But I haven’t had anything happen in months.”

“I know you haven’t but according to our records you have gone over the limit of allowed mistakes. I simply just cannot allow for these to go unobserved.”

“What have I done that could possibly count as mishaps?”

“Well, according to what I have here in your file, it states that you have stolen food from one of the houses on a daily basis.”

“Oh that’s just Carrottop, she’s my friend. That’s just a game we tend to play with each other.”

“That’s not the only thing though, it says that you single hoovedly burned down a house when you crashed into a lit fireplace. The couple that lived there threatened to sue us but dropped the charges when we gave them the money to build a new one.”

“Oh, well maybe Lyra and BonBon shouldn’t have had the fireplace lit when it was seventy degrees out!” She shouted with a sarcastic tone.

“Then you happened to get into a fight with that pink earth pony over…..muffins?”

“I wasn’t about to let Pinkie pass those monstrosities off as muffins!”

“Then there was the incident where you dropped a multitude of heavy objects on an innocent mare including an anvil and piano.”

Derpy had asked Twilight for her forgiveness over that hundreds of times and each time the unicorn would say that it was okay and she didn’t hold anything against her. That was one of the reasons Derpy loved Twilight so much and always felt like they could be good friends.

“But she forgave me for that and I go-

“Enough!”

“The list just goes on and on. I’m sorry but I have to let you go.”

Seeing how upset Derpy was her boss decided to do something nice.

“Okay, if it will make you feel any better, I will let you take this important document to the Princesses in Canterlot. This will be your final assignment and paycheck. Once again I am very sorry.”

Derpy sat there with almost tears in her eyes as she grabbed the letter and walked out the door.

“What am I going to do?”

“How will I feed Dinky?”

“How will I keep the house?”

Each thought became more and more panicked as she flew towards Canterlot for her final assignment.

“There has to be some job out there that will take me.”

Princess Celestia was sitting in the throne room with her sister as they continued to go through a large amount of paperwork that kept the country running. As they filed and sorted, signing what they needed. A large white Pegasus guard walked in the room.

“Your majesties, a mailmare has just arrived and claims to have an important document for you.”

“Let her in.”

Derpy entered the room and even though she had been crying, gaped at the astonishing décor of the mansion. It almost felt cereal knowing that this would be her last assignment for a job she had known all her life. She bowed and walked over to give them the letter. As soon as she took her first step, her awkward eyesight caused her to trip and fall into a large vase that was next to her. The vase then proceeded to fly into the air where it hit a painting on the wall. The painting then fell off the wall and struck a bowl of decorative marbles that went everywhere. When one of the marbles hit an old grandfather clock it caused the glass to shatter and the clock to fall over. As the clock fell it landed on a basket of spears that were used by the Pegasus guards in times of turmoil. The spears flew into the air where they managed to slice threw a rope which just so happened to hang one of the largest chandeliers in all of Equestria.

SNAP!

When the rope broke and the chandelier fell, there was a massive bang with dust and debris everywhere.
Derpy lifted her head to see what had happened when the sight finally caused her eyes to almost go straight.
Both princesses had been crushed by the chandelier and where gasping for air.

“Mail…mare.” Said Celestia weakly.

“ I don’t have much time, so I must make this quick. I now bestow upon you the leadership of this kingdom take care of its people well as a queen should and find a good unicorn to help you raise the Sun and Moon….ughhhhhh. With her final breath her almost two thousand year reign ended.

Derpy, sitting their shocked looked over at Luna as she spoke her final words.

“Tell Pip I love him and that I regret nothing…..hnggguhhhhhhhhh.”

And with that, all was silenced.

The guards ran into the room moments after they heard the crash and saw the gruesome scene.

“WHAT HAPPENED?! What did they tell you?!” Said the guard.

“Th-th-the-they made me queen.”

Authors Note: Okay, so this is my first attempt at writing fan fiction ever. Please give me constructive criticism and nothing negative. I promise this story gets much better with lots of comedy and inevitable shipping. I just want to know if I should continue and if anyone is remotely interested in where this is going? I know there is probably alot of spelling errors and grammar problems. Please politely help me to correct any that you see.

Chapter 2-Control
Derpy was sitting in the middle of a dark candle lit stadium that existed underneath Canterlot Castle. Around her were almost eighty or so elder ponies in dark cloaks who were whispering amongst each other. Her heart sank as she was silently being judged by the elder counsel of Equestria.

“This is our new queen?”

“How can we expect a mail pony to know how to properly rule?”

“Just look at those eyes, so pathetic. No way she can be queen.”

“How could Celestia choose her?”

Derpy could not believe what was happening. Just yesterday she was going through her daily routine and now she had accidentally killed the ultimate powers of Equestria and was about to be put on trial by the most magical and wise ponies in the world.

The whispering came to a halt when a much larger stallion unicorn draped in maroon red walked up to a pedestal. He spoke in the loudest voice Derpy had ever heard which she could only compare to the traditional royal Canterlot voice.

“DERPY HOOVES!!!”

“YOU HAVE BEEN SUMMONED HERE BY THE EQUESTRIAN COUNSEL TO DEAL WITH MATTERS REGARDING THE FUTURE OF OUR GREAT LAND!!!”

“DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY BEFORE WE BEGINE?!!!”

“Um…c-can I go to the little filly’s room?”

“REQUEST DENIED!!!” Boomed the councilman with literal lightning and thunder being discharged behind him.

“ACCOURDING TO WHAT YOU TOLD THE GUARDS AT THE SCENE OF THE INCIDENT, CELESTIA NAMED YOU THE NEXT QUEEN OF OUR LAND!!!”

“IS THIS TRUE?!!!”

“Y-yes your honor.”

“VERY WELL!!!”

“THOUGH WE DO NOT AGREE WITH HER DECISION, WE ARE OBLIGATED TO CARRY OUT HER FINAL ORDERS AND COMANDS!!!”

“THUS, IT IS OUR DUTY TO SUPPORT THE WORD OF CELESTIA!!! FELLOW CONCILMEN, I GIVE YOU THE NEW LEADER OF EQUESTRIA!!!”

“QUEEN DERPY HOOVES!!!”

“ALL HAIL DERPY HOOVES, QUEEN OF EQUESTRIA!!!” Chanted every pony in the room

Derpy simply sat there in awe. She could not even begin to fathom what was about to happen in her life. She had been given a new chance and could change things for the better. Now she could make an Equestria worth living for.
“No, not an Equestria, but a Derpestria!”

“You’re really going to be queen?!” Said Dinky who was bouncing around there gigantic castle bedroom.

“Yes I am. The council said that they would make the official announcement after the princesses’ funeral.”

“Does this mean I’m a princess?”

“It sure does sweetie.”

“YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!” Screamed Dinky.

“Honey, before we celebrate we have to go pay our respects the Celestia and Luna and …OH CRAP I FORGOT I HAVE TO FIND SOMEPONY TO HELP RAISE THE SUN AND MOON.”

Indeed Derpy had forgotten that the Sun was still stuck in the sky, untouched since Celestias death. But who could she find that would have the power to help her raise the massive objects on a daily basis? Her thoughts turned to Ponyville and the only pony she would ever think of at a time like this.

“I have to ask Twilight.”

The funeral was a massive gathering of every pony from all across Equestria. Each one would pay their respects and drop a flower on the two large caskets adorned with beautiful Sun and Moon symbols.

As the funeral went on Derpy finally found the sight she dreaded to see. Over by the caskets were none other than Twilight Sparkle and the other elements of harmony. Twilight lay on the ground balling her eyes out over the death of her teacher as were her friends. With that she decided to go and comfort the unicorn.

She approached the unicorn and said the words on ever pony’s mind.

“T-Twilight I’m sorry for what happened. I know you were close with the princess.”

She then embraced Twilight into a hug to help her cope.

“Oh Derpy, sniff don’t feel sorry. I mean, it’s not like it’s your fault this happened.”

Derpy cringed at those words knowing full well that Celestia's death was all her fault.

“Yeaaaaah, totally not my fault.” She said slowly and awkwardly.

“Twilight I need to ask you someth-”

“WHY!” interrupted a scream from a young colt who was crying next to Luna’s casket. Derpy and Twilight recognized him to be that kid who moved to Ponyville from Trottingham named Pipsqueak.

“Poor kid he must be taking it pretty hard.” Said Derpy

“My true love has left me”

“Wait what did he just say?” said Derpy only to be interrupted by Twilight.

“So what did you want to ask me?”

“Oh yeah, Can you follow me I want to talk to you.”

Derpy then began to tell twilight about what had happened and how she had been named queen by Celestia leaving out the parts about how their deaths were her fault.

“I can’t believe it.” Said Twilight

“I know it’s very complicated but I wanted to ask you if you would be willing to help me raise the Sun and Moon?”

“W-Wow this is such an honor Derp-I mean my Queen.”

“Oh Twilight you don’t have to have to call me that.”

“Yes your majesty.”

Twilight had read many books on the magic it takes to raise the Sun and Moon and had even been taught the techniques it took to do such a feat by Celestia herself. Of course no mere unicorn had actually raised the celestial bodies in over two thousand years since the birth of the royal sisters.

“Okay I’ll give it a shot” Said Twilight.

Her horn soon began glow with a power so immense that it could be felt by almost every unicorn in the vicinity. Her power reached the sphere and……… “Nothing”

Twilight stood there panting from exhaustion. She thought she could do it but the strain was too much.

“huff sorry huff I huff will try huff again later.”

“It’s okay Twilight we will figure something out later. For now, I think it’s time to make my announcement.

“PONIES OF EQUESTRIA I GIVE YOU OUR KNEW LEADER, QUEEN DERPY HOOVES!!!”

“AND MAY I ALSO INTRODUCE THE NEXT HEIR TO THE THRONE, PRINCESS DINKY HOOVES!!!”

There was an almost quiet silence as every pony in the audience sat there stunned. The same thought was going through everyone’s mind. Why would you pull a prank at a time like this? A few minutes went by before it finally sank in that the Councilmen were being dead serious.

Derpy Hooves was now officially Queen of Equestria.

A few more moments passed before the crowd slowly began to build up an applause for their new leader.

“This isn’t so bad.” Said Derpy.

“What could go wrong?”

Authors Note: Okay, so I know not much is happening yet, but I am just setting everything up for the events to come. I know it seems pretty short but as time goes on it will develop. Once again, please tell me of any grammar and spelling mistakes.
