Muffins & Rainbows

Chapter 1

By UK-Brony 95

There she was. Rainbow Dash was lined up at the start line of the Wonderbolts Derby. She was feeling confident. It was her lifelong dream after all. Five other pegasi dressed in those familiar blue overalls were to her left and right. “Come on Rainbow... You can do this” she thought to herself. In mere seconds she would be at top speed, possibly leading the greatest aerobatic squad in all of Equestria. She hunkered low, spreading her magnificent blue wings into the air. A single bead of sweat running down her brow. She was ready. The starting flag dropped. She bolted forward with all her strength, leaving the Wonderbolts for dust. She never knew how fast she was... Oh wait yea she did! “Hehe, This is too easy!” she thought, slowing her pace slightly. The cyan mare whizzed round the track, far outpacing her idols. She saw the finish line up ahead. The finish line seemed to be 300 yards away, but quickly decreased to 200, then 100...

*BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP*
Rainbow Dash awoke to the sound not of cheering, but of reality. She groaned, groping wildly for the snooze button on the alarm.

“Just 5 more minutes” she whispered groggily to herself.

After finally managing to silence the deafening roar of her bedside nemesis, she realised that getting any more sleep was going to be impossible. Rainbow Dash just lay there, staring up at the cloud she called a ceiling. It was quiet in her cloud home and Rainbow enjoyed the silence. She enjoyed nothing more than settling down on her bed and just listening to the sounds, or lack of them. After about 5 minutes she eventually decided to get up and do something about the hunger in her belly. Lazily dragging herself out of bed, she trotted through her bedroom.

Once reaching the kitchen she let out a large yawn, accompanied by the sound of cracking as she flexed and stretched her joints and wings. “What to eat, what to eat”. She thought aloud. Sifting through the refrigerator and cabinets, she found very few items of food. In one of the cupboards she found an old tin of dandelion soup. She didn’t see any reason why she couldn’t use it now, so giving the cabinet door a nudge closed, she set about preparing her breakfast.

It was about 11am when Rainbow finally decided to get to her weather duties. Partially filled up from her liquid breakfast, she knew that if she made good progress, she could always fly down to Sugarcube Corner and get a few baked goods. Her mouth watered at the prospect, and giving the front door a final pull closed, she set off into the sky

-Elsewhere-

Ditzy Doo had just finished her morning mail round and was on her way back to the depot. She whistled a little tune as she trotted away from her final delivery at Sweet Apple Acres, delivering a new bag of special golden apple seed. She loved her job; getting to meet other ponies, fresh air, exercise, as well as providing a steady income for her and Dinky to live on. She smiled as she thought of her little filly. Dinky really was the light of her life and was the one who kept her going when Dinky’s father was in... the accident. She sighed, her smile disappearing when that painful memory decided to surface. It had been a few years since that day but Ditzy was dealing with it very well. She decided to fly back to the depot, no point wasting time when she could be finished by now. She spread her wings and made her way back to the depot to sign out.

After signing out of work, Ditzy gave a small sigh of relief. Now she could go and enjoy the day with her friends. “Friends?” She thought. She hadn’t got many friends, and even the ones she did have, she rarely spent time with them. She frowned. “Why don’t i have many friends?” “I deliver their mail, I try and be nice to everypony i meet.” “But no-one wants to take the time to get to know me.” She said to no-one in particular. “It’s these bucking eyes!”

-Flashback-

As a filly, Ditzy had always had a bit of a lazy eye. She didn’t think much of it, simply thinking of it as something that made her unique. If only the other colts and fillies were so understanding. She was bullied mercilessly for years by two ponies.

Ashes was the leader of the two ponies, he was a dark grey earth pony with a brilliant white mane. The second pony, Starstrike, was an orange pegasus with a short, messy chocolate mane. They both towered above Ditzy despite being in the same class.

“Well well well, what have we got here.” Said Ashes in a tone that sent chills down Ditzy’s spine. “Yea!” said Starstrike trying to imitate his friends tone. “How have you been Derpy?” He said, putting particular emphasis on that last word.

She hated that nickname, almost as much as the two ponies that stood in front of her. “Leave me alone!” Shouted Ditzy “And that’s not my name!”

The two mocked Ditzy for her entire school life. The worst thing was that nopony would ever come to the rescue and save her from those bullies. She was usually so upset from the constant jeering, she would always try and shy away from the other ponies. Never making friends, never happy...

-Present Day-

Dash was resting on a cloud, watching the other ponies go about their daily lives. Despite always seeming rather brash and loud, Rainbow Dash actually liked nothing more than simply lying on a cloud and watching the world go by.

It was about 2 o clock before she had finally finished her weather duties. Cloudsdale had been in cloud making overdrive today and they needed extra help clearing the skies above Ponyville. Dash was finally awakened from her thoughts by the sound of a loud rumble; her stomach! She realised then how long she had been without food. Sitting up on her cloud, she stretched her wings and dived off. She streamlined herself as she fell, soaring through the air towards Sugarcube Corner.

-Elsewhere-

Ditzy forced herself to forget about her horrible fillyhood, but no matter how hard she tried, she failed. She was sat near the borders of the Everfree Forest, away from prying eyes, nothing but the odd songbird coming near to her. Tears rolled down her cheek as she thought about all that had gone wrong during her life. “It’s just not fair...” She whimpered. “It’s just not fair...”.

It was a lovely warm day, but she didn’t notice, all she felt was cold, empty, alone.
“Hey! What’s all this about?” said her inner voice.

“I’m just...It’s just...”

“Feeling bad again are we?”

“Yea...” She sighed.

“Well, instead of thinking about the bad stuff, why not think about the good?”

“But...”

“But nothing missy! What about Dinky! At least stay strong for her!”

“You’re right!” Said Ditzy, perking up slightly.

“That’s the spirit Ditz!” said her inner voice “Now why don’t you go get some muffins from Sugarcube Corner and cheer up, huh?”

“Muffins!” Cheered Ditzy, springing to her feet. She had perked up considerably, a big grin now present on her tear stained face. Rubbing a hoof across her face to dry what remained of her tears, she flared her wings and took off towards Sugarcube Corner, looking forward to the array of baked treats that Ponyville’s number 1 bakery had to offer.

Rainbow Dash landed a few feet from Sugarcube Corner. The smell of freshly baked goods wafted out of the partially opened door. Rainbow took a deep inhale and her mouth began watering. She had never been so hungry in all her life. She trotted up to the door, and pushing it open, went inside.

The smell was delightful; like fresh bread and hot raisins mixed together. Rainbow stood at the counter, inspecting the goods that the shop had to offer. The choice of goods was almost endless, almost as though there were an A-Z of cupcake flavors. They all looked so delicious. She was so busy inspecting the goods behind the counter, she barely acknowledged a pink Earth pony bouncing out the kitchen, precariously balancing a tray of fresh cakes on her back.

“Oh, hey Dashie!” said Pinkie, beaming as usual.

Rainbow looked up at her friend. “Hi Pinkie!” She said. “Sorry I couldn’t make it last night.”

“It’s alright.” Replied Pinkie. “A party is still a party, even with only 4 friends!”

Rainbow couldn’t help but smile. Pinkie could always make her feel better, even on her bad days. “So what have you got there?” She asked, pointing a hoof at the tray balanced on Pinkies back.

“Oh these?” Said Pinkie. “They’re just some special party cakes I made for a ‘Welcome To Ponyville Party’ that i’m holding later”

Suddenly, an even larger grin appeared on Pinkies face. “DASHIE! Come to the party PLEEEEAAASSSEE!!” She begged.

“I don’t have any plans for later.” Replied Rainbow. “I suppose I could make it.”

Somehow still managing to balance a tray of cakes on her back, Pinkie leapt over the counter and gave Rainbow an infamous Pinkie Pie death hug.

“Oh Dashie!” Pinkie squealed. “This is going to be so great!”

“Pi...Pinkie.......Can’t............Breath.” Gasped Rainbow.

“Oopsies!” said Pinkie, releasing her friend.

After regaining her breath, Rainbows stomach gave an audible growl.

“Hehe," chuckled Rainbow. "I guess that means it’s time to eat something. I’ll take two of those Apple cupcakes."'

“Coming up!” Said Pinkie, jumping back over the counter and landing the tray on the sideboard in one quick move.

“Pinkie, where is that welcome party being held?” Asked Rainbow. “I don’t think you told me.”

“I didn’t?” Asked Pinkie. “I am such a silly filly sometimes!” She giggled. “It’s next door to Lyra and Bon Bons house.”

Rainbow gave a nod to Pinkie, paid her for the cupcakes, and turned to leave; there was still a question nagging in the back of her mind, however. “Pinkie, who’s moved in to the house?”

“Oh, just some stallion moving here from Coltifornia.” Replied Pinkie. “His name is Lyric.”

The name ran through Rainbows mind. She knew that name from somewhere, but couldn’t quite put her hoof on where from. “OK.” Said Rainbow. “I’ll see you later!”

“Later Dashie!” Said the pink pony who had disappeared back to the kitchen.

-A Few Minutes Later-

Rainbow finished her cupcakes on a bench outside Sugarcube Corner.

“Wow, those were great!” Rainbow thought aloud. Walking away from the bench, she was too busy savouring the taste in her mouth to notice another pony trotting straight across her path. She crashed into the other pony, sending them both tumbling to the ground. Regaining her senses, Dash looked at the object she had foalishly bumped into. There, sprawled out on the ground beside her, was none other than the muffin loving mailmare, Ditzy Doo.

“Oh my Celestia!” Said Dash. “Are you ok?”

Ditzy just looked straight at Dash with an apologetic look on her face. “Y...Yea I think so.”

"Oh good!" Explained Dash in relief, now standing up and brushing dust out of her coat. “Sorry about that, I wasn’t really paying attention.”

She extended a hoof to Ditzy to get her up off the floor.

“I...It’s ok.” Replied Ditzy. She didn’t really like talking to ponies she wasn’t familiar with, but she had to say something if she wanted to get away without seeming rude. “It’s my fault anyway, Blind spot.” She said, raising a hoof to her misaligned eyes.

Rainbow felt a pang of guilt run through her, not only had she run into another mare, she thought she had offended her by making her point out her condition.

“Geez.” Said Rainbow apolegetically. “Can I make up for knocking you over?”

Ditzy smiled. Somepony was not only talking to her, but was now offering to make up to her. “Well I was going to Sugarcube Corner.” Explained Ditzy. “I suppose you could get some muffins for us both.”

“Yeah sure!” Exclaimed Rainbow. “Wanna come with me?”

Ditzy was at a loss, nopony had ever been so nice to her. She felt, for the first time in years; accepted. “I...I’d love too!” Replied Ditzy.

-A half hour later-

“That was great!” Said Ditzy, licking the remaining crumbs from around her lips. “That pink pony sure knows how to bake!”

“Yeah.” Said Dash. “Her name’s Pinkie Pie by the way.”

Ditzy nodded. Her eyes focusing for a second as she took in this new information, before returning to their usual cross eyed appearance.

“You know what, I never got your name.” Said Ditzy with a sheepish grin on her face.

Rainbow looked quite shocked at that. She wasn’t exactly the easiest pony to forget. Winning the best young fliers competition (which Ditzy actually entered), performing Sonic Rainbooms, being the only pony in Ponyville to have a rainbow mane.

“You seriously don’t know my name?” Asked Rainbow, looking quite puzzled at the question from the grey pegasus.

“No... I mean yes, I mean, I... I... I.” Ditzy stuttered, beginning to shrink back.

“Forget it, it’s alright.” Said Rainbow. “My name’s Rainbow Dash.” She stroked a hoof through her namesake mane, beaming proudly all the while.

Ditzy looked at Dash, seeing nothing but forgiveness in those beautiful magenta eyes. Ditzy had never seen eyes quite like Dash’s, she’d seen ponies with all kinds of eye colours, but there was something about hers that made Ditzy feel relaxed. Her gaze was interrupted by a hoof waving in front of her face.

“Hello. Earth to Ditzy Doo.” Said Rainbow in an almost confused tone.

Ditzy shook her head a few times, returning to reality. “S... Sorry about that.” Said Ditzy, a light blush forming on her cheeks. Fortunately for Ditzy, Dash didn’t notice. Instead, Dash simply smiled and said “Well it’s been fun Ditzy, but I have to go.”

“Oh...” Said Ditzy, slightly disappointed. “Why?”

“I’ve got go and get ready for a ‘Welcome to Ponyville’ party that Pinkie’s throwing later.” A thought crossed Dash’s mind. “You can come if you want.”

Ditzy had never felt as happy as she did right then, apart from when she had Dinky obviously.

“I’d love to!” Said Ditzy excitedly. She hadn’t been to a Pinkie party since Twilight and Spike first arrived in Ponyville.

“What time is it starting? Where is it being held? Who’s going?” Said Ditzy, barely pausing for breath.

“Well, somepony’s excited!” Said Dash. “It should start round about eight and knowing Pinkie, it’ll probably go on all night, and it’s being held next door to Lyra and Bon Bon’s.”

Ditzy didn’t personally know Lyra or Bon Bon, but she knew the address because she always had either a package or a letter for one of them. “Cool” said Ditzy. “I’ve just got to find a fillysitter for...”

“Wait, wait, wait... You have a filly?” Asked Rainbow.

“Yeah”. Said Ditzy, beaming with pride. “You sound surprised.”

“Well, yea. You just look so... young.” Said Rainbow, a slight blush forming on her face.

Ditzy giggled. She thought did Rainbow really call her young?. Before she could ask what Dash had tried to imply, the cyan pegasus had flown into the air at breakneck speed. Ditzy could barely make out what Dash had said while she flew away, but Ditzy guessed that she said something like ‘See you later’.

Now alone, Ditzy let out a little squeal of pure excitement. She had done what she thought she could never manage. She had made a new friend.

-Later that evening-

Ditzy stood in front of her mirror, brushing her mane. She had no idea why, but all she could think of was meeting Dash again. Those striking colours in her mane, her beautiful eyes, her perfect figure, her flank... Ditzy blushed at that slightly naughty thought. Wait, did she seriously just think about Rainbow Dash that way? She shook her head to try and remove the image now plastered into her mind. “Get yourself together Ditz!” She spoke aloud. “You’ve only known her for one day!”

Placing down the brush she held with both hooves, she shook her head once again, her mane falling into it’s natural style. Hearing a knock at the door, Ditzy switched off the light in her room and made her way to the front door. Opening it, she found her usual fillysitter, Coke Smart, waiting on the other side. He was a young colt, about 16 years old. He had a dark burgundy coat, a messy golden mane, and an open book as a cutie mark.

“Hi Miss Doo!” He said in his Trottingham accent.

“Hi Coke!” Replied Ditzy. “Dinky is in the living room at the moment, make sure she’s in bed by 9, and i should hopefully be back before midnight.”

“Aye Aye captain.” Said Coke, giving her a salute.

10 minutes later, Ditzy was standing outside. She waved back at the 2 ponies standing in her front door. After it closed, Ditzy set off towards the party, happy in the knowledge that she would once again meet her new friend, Rainbow Dash.

Chapter 3

Muffins & Rainbows

Chapter 3

By UK-Brony 95

Ditzy walked towards the party venue, Luna’s moon creeping up behind the mountain range in the distance. It was a cool night, a gentle breeze tickling Ditzy’s ears as she went. She knew this area well, years of delivering mail had given her a fairly good sense of direction. She turned the corner onto the street where the party was being held. She had expected music and a fair amount of ponies to give away the location of Lyric’s new home. But instead she found nothing.

“Well that’s strange”. She said to herself. “Usually there’s music at parties”.

She carried on down the street, certain that she would find it soon. Still nothing. Ditzy was becoming rather anxious, numerous explanations running through her mind.

“What if I've come on the wrong night?”, “What if I'm too early?”, “What if there IS no party?”

She began to trot quicker down the street, certain that she would find something to put her mind at ease. To her relief, in the distance she spotted the silhouette of another pony. Ditzy breathed a sigh of relief. She made towards the pony shaped object, hoping that they too were on their way to the party.

Once she reached the silhouette pony, she gave them a tap on the shoulder. The pony screamed, jumping at least 15 feet in the air, before landing and curling up in a ball on the floor.

“Ummm... are you alright?” asked Ditzy.

The other pony peeked out from behind her mane, giving a small nod. Ditzy recognised this pony, she was the animal lover who lived in the cottage. Before Ditzy could get a chance to ask what the pony was doing out at such an hour, a door opened behind her.

“Fluttershy! What’s all the noise!” The voice behind the door said in a hushed voice. “Lyric isn’t here is he?”

The light coming from the front porch now illuminated the other pony in light. It was unmistakeably Fluttershy. She had now picked herself up from the floor and was now conversing with the pony stood in the doorway.

“N... No Pinkie, I don’t think he is.” Said Fluttershy in her usual quiet tone. “B... But I think we have another guest.”

Pinkie shifted her view onto Ditzy, giving a big grin as she did so.

“Ditzy! I’m so glad you could make it!”. Said Pinkie, giving a quick look around. “Get inside before he comes back! Fluttershy, keep looking out for him.”

“Umm... Okay.” Said Fluttershy, slightly more assertive than before.

Before being able to ask what was going on, Pinkie had reached out and dragged Ditzy inside before slamming the door behind them.

-Elsewhere-

“Well thanks for the tour around town Miss Twilight.” Said Lyric. “I’m sure i’ll be able to find my way now.”

“No problems Lyric, i’m just glad I could help out.” Replied Twilight. “I know what it’s like to be the new pony in town.”

Lyric was a fairly young pegasus. He was well built for his age, but despite his size he seemed like a genuinely nice stallion. His glossy red coat really brung out his large yellow irises. His bright teal mane was windswept but not unkempt and a bass clef cutie mark stood proudly on his haunches.

Twilight and Lyric were walking back through the park in the center of town. The moon shone in the distance, immersing the landscape in a beautiful glow.

“So what brings you to Ponyville Lyric?” Asked Twilight.

“Oh, I’m recording a new album, I heard that Ponyville has some great beauty spots so I moved here for some inspiration.” Said Lyric.

He looked around at the moonlit scene. “I wasn’t wrong.”

Twilight smiled. She remembered the first time she had experienced nightfall in Ponyville. She could guess Lyric was enjoying the scene, his eyes shone bright with awe.

“You should probably be getting home now Lyric.” Said Twilight. “It’s getting pretty late.”

Lyric gave a downhearted sigh. “Yea I guess you’re right, I just wish I could spend more time out here.”

Twilight and Lyric walked back through the now deserted streets of Ponyville. Their hoofsteps resonating off the buildings around them.

-At Lyric’s House-

Ditzy waited in the dark with everypony else. She could tell that a lot of other ponies were there, but the dark combined with her vision problems meant that she couldn't properly identify anyone. The noise in the house was little more than a hushed whisper. The only thing Ditzy could make out was Pinkie’s poofy mane waiting by the front door.

“Hey Ditzy, how’s it going?” Came a whisper from behind her.

She turned in the direction where the voice had come from. Despite the darkness, Ditzy could easily make out the rainbow mane of her new friend. It was Rainbow Dash.

“Oh hey Dash.” Replied Ditzy. “I didn’t see you there”.

Dash walked up beside Ditzy. “Yeah, I was just over there talking to Lyra.” She said, waving a hoof somewhere into the darkness.

Ditzy attempted to find the pony named Lyra in the darkness, but returning nothing simply just nodded towards Dash.

“So, where did you go earlier?” Asked Ditzy. “I never got to say i’d see you later!”

Rainbow Dash blushed. “Well.. I .. errrm..” She spoke in an almost embarrassed, uncharacteristically quiet tone.

She was saved from answering Ditzy properly when the front door slowly creaked open. A timid yellow pegasus poked her head around and spoke in her usual quiet tone. “Ummm... Pinkie, you told me to, umm.. t... tell you if he’s coming back. Well, I... I’m telling you now”.

The pink earth pony gasped excitedly. She then turned to the darkened room. “Everypony be quiet! He’s coming! Oh, and Fluttershy, get inside!”

Fluttershy squeaked as Pinkie dragged her inside the house.

Everyone in the room immediately fell silent. The sound of hoofsteps outside grew louder and louder. Two muffled voices could be heard.

“Well, this is me.” Said the male voice.

The second voice was familiar to Ditzy, she delivered packages to the library all the time.

“Would it be okay if I came inside, it’s pretty cold out here.” Said Twilight.

The first voice returned. “Sure, I don’t see why not.”

The handle on the door twisted, causing it to swing open. The larger of the two figures walked in. Suddenly, the lights flicked on. Party poppers and streamers littered the room with confetti, and all the ponies in the room shouted ‘SURPRISE!’

Lyric jumped back, his face twisted into a mix of shock and surprise. His once windswept mane now stood straight and his red coat turned at least 4 shades paler than it’s original hue. He tried to speak but all that came out of his mouth was a squeak that would have made even Fluttershy cringe. Twilight giggled, Lyrics current state reminded her of when Rainbow Dash scared Spike on Nightmare Night.

Pinkie bounced over to the now calm pegasus, who was busy flattening down his mane.

“Hi! I’m Pinkie Pie and I threw this party just for you!” She said, beaming all the while.

“That was quite the surprise you gave me there Pinkie.” Said Lyric.

“Well duh, it wouldn’t have been a surprise then would it!” Replied Pinkie.

The stallion smirked at the earth pony’s simple logic. He hadn’t had a surprise party before, and after that initial shock had worn off, he was sure that he would enjoy it. His train of thought was interrupted when Pinkie once again spoke up.

“So who’s ready to shake their groove thangs!”

She was greeted by a hail of cheers as the record player burst into life. The party was under way. Ditzy and Dash made their way to the buffet table. Mounds of treats and big bowls of punch adorned the small table. Ditzy wouldn’t have been surprised if the table just collapsed right then.

“Wow!” Said Dash. “Pinkie’s really outdone herself this time!”

Ditzy attempted to respond, but the 5 muffins she had shoveled into her mouth were giving her some trouble, so she just nodded. Dash took a bite out of one of Applejacks famous apple fritters as she poured two cups of punch. After Ditzy had finished her mouthful of muffin, she picked up a cup and clinked it with Rainbows.

“Cheers.” Said Ditzy before chugging down Pinkies punch.
“Cheers to you as well.” Replied Dash.

-Later that evening-

Ditzy and Dash both staggered down Mane Street, chatting loudly as they went. Both were steaming drunk.

“That... hic... that was great!” Said Ditzy, slightly slurring her words.

“Y... Yea.” Said Dash, slightly steadying herself with a wing.

They both continued towards the field under Rainbows cloud home, laughing at Twilight’s poor attempt at dancing, how Pinkie had got stuck in a lampshade and at how Berry Punch began bathing in the punch bowl because she thought she was canoeing.

Once they reached the field, they were even less able to stand up, thanks to the fit of giggles they had caught. They instead chose to lay down until they could at least stand up straight. While trying to regain their breath, Ditzy looked over at Dash. Tears of laughter cascaded down her face, her cyan body convulsed as she continued giggling. Ditzy moved her eyes further down her friend. Dash’s cutie mark glistened in the moonlight, making Ditzy blush slightly. Rainbow really did have a great figure. Mind you, she’d have to be in great shape to perform all the stunts and tricks she was known for.

Well now’s your chance Ditz”. Said her inner voice.

Ditzy found herself shuffling closer to her friend, which elicited a few glances from Dash.

“Umm... Ditzy?” Asked Dash “What are you do...”

She was interrupted by Ditzy, who had pressed her lips up against her own. Her eyes opened wide in shock. The shock quickly disappeared from Dash’s mind, replaced instead with feelings she had never really felt before. Dash felt her wings becoming rigid as she enjoyed the kiss more and more. Sure she’d had the odd fling back at university, but this was something completely new to her. She felt... passion.

The two pegasi lay in the field, locked in each others embrace. Their tongues explored each others mouths. Eventually Ditzy broke the kiss, eyes focusing for the second time that day at the mare of her desires. Her wings stood rigid on her back. A single string of saliva linking their mouths together as they stared into each others eyes. They must have been staring at each other for about a minute before Dash broke the silence.

“W.. Well Ditzy, I... I should be getting home.”
Dash had a huge blush covering her cheeks as her wings settled by her side.

“Y... Yea, i’ve got to be getting home for Dinky.”

The two exchanged an awkward glance as they went their separate ways. Rainbow made her unsteady ascent to her cloud home, while Ditzy had the misfortune of having to trek halfway across town. In her inebriated state, this was not an easy task.

-Fifteen minutes later-

Having successfully dragged herself in through the front door, she propped herself up against the wall.

“Hi Miss Doo!” Came the familiar voice of a young colt. “How was your night.”

He looked in disbelief at what he saw. Ditzy was wasted; her mane was messy, her eyes seemed more crossed than before, and a single bead of drool hung from the corner of her mouth.

“Okay... i’ll just take the money and go now.” Said Coke, grinning nervously towards the inebriated pegasus. He hurried out the door and into the night.

Ditzy stumbled down the hallway towards her bedroom. She couldn’t wait to get some rest, but she knew that there were 2 problems that needed addressing in the morning. The first was the hangover she would inevitably be lumbered with. The second problem was far more serious though. It could wait for now though. Ditzy slipped between the sheets, giving a sigh as the warmth now enveloped her.

“Goodnight Rai-” She stopped herself before smiling.

“Goodnight Dashie.”

She closed her eyelids as the realm of sleep now overtook her senses, sending her happily into dreamland.

Chapter 4

Muffins & Rainbows
Chapter 4
By UK-Brony 95

Rainbow Dash awoke from her slumber. She had almost no recollection of how she managed to get back up to her cloud home, but there was thing she was certain of, she was hungover. She opened her eyelids, but quickly snapped them shut when light ravaged her head like a napalm storm.

“Ugh”. She groaned, attempting to sit up.

Once she had sat up, she tried to open her eyes again; it felt as though someone was poking her eyes with a pair of sharp sticks. She grimaced as she kept them open and the pain began to subside, but her vision was still very sensitive. Taking it very slowly, she dragged herself off the bed. She stood up, but finding her sense of balance a bit off, promptly tumbled into the wall. She instead crawled through to the kitchen and as quickly as she could, began making a pot of coffee.

After gently sipping from her cup of coffee, she was in a much better state to think about the night before, although her headache was bothering her. The night had been fun, even Rarity seemed to have loosened up a bit. Rainbow giggled at the thought of Rarity drunkenly flirting with a very embarrassed Lyric. It was true, there simply was no party like a Pinkie Pie party. Dash sipped more of her coffee as she sat down at her table. She could only really remember the first half of the night, but there was certainly one memory that wasn’t going to leave her anytime soon.

She looked deep into the brown liquid in her cup, grinning all the while. The memory played itself through her head a few times. She felt a light blush form on her cheeks as the previous nights events ran through her head. She could never have guessed how good a kisser Ditzy was. In fact, Dash didn’t think anyone could kiss that good. It may have been the punch that night, but Dash could tell that the kiss had come from the heart.

“I wonder how Ditzy is this morning?” Questioned Dash to herself, finishing off her coffee. Before Rainbow went anywhere, there were things that needed to be taken care of. She gingerly trotted to her bathroom to relieve her aching bladder, and also to take a much needed shower. Dash pulled the cord on her shower cloud, causing a cascade of cooling water to fall. As she stepped underneath the falling water, Rainbow thought about the day that lay ahead. She hadn’t really planned anything too big, just to clear a few clouds making their way in from Whinnypeg; so she could always see if Ditzy was free to hang out later.

Rainbow let out a sigh of delight as she allowed the water to trickle through the delicate feathers on her wings. Rainbow imagined Ditzy in the shower with her, rubbing a hoof through her wings, while whispering sweet nothings into her ear. Dash blushed as scene after scene ran through her mind, imagining a variety of situations between her and Ditzy.

After finishing her shower, she stepped out and reached for a towel. As she went to wrap it round her body, she was foiled by a pair of very solid wings. Dash instead decided to dry her mane and tail with the towel, giving her wings time to settle down before trying once again to wrap it round herself.

-Elsewhere-

Dinky Doo woke up. She usually woke up to the smell of breakfast cinnamon muffins, but this morning she smelled nothing. Dinky sat up in bed. She rubbed her eyes with a hoof before releasing a large yawn.

“Mama! I’m up.” Shouted Dinky.

Hearing no response, she decided to get up. She jumped out of bed and, after stretching, trotted through the house to Ditzy’s room. When she got to the bedroom door, she nudged it open slowly.

“Mama? Are you awake?” Asked Dinky.

Dinky scanned the darkened room. She spotted the sleeping figure of her mother on the bed in the far corner, snoring softly. Dinky giggled quietly. She always liked waking up her mama when she had the chance. A smile spread across the filly’s face as she ran full speed towards the bed, leaping into the air as she came closer.

“Wake up mama!” Yelled Dinky.

Dinky landed on the sleeping pegasus with some force. Ditzy bolted awake, interrupted from a particularly nice dream involving Rainbow Dash and a dozen muffins. She quickly closed her eyes to stop the burning pain in her head and lay back down in the bed.

“Thank Celestia it’s Sunday.” Ditzy thought to herself.

“Mama! You can’t sleep now, it’s light outside!” Explained Dinky, now bouncing up and down on the bed. Ditzy let out an incoherent mumble before half opening one eye; she was greeted by the sight of her little unicorn filly, now trying to nuzzle her face out of the pillow.

“Morning muffin.” Said Ditzy groggily.

Dinky didn’t say anything, instead she simply smiled at Ditzy before laying down on the bed next to her.

“So how was your night?” Asked Dinky

Ditzy didn’t dare go into full details in front of her little filly.

“Oh... umm... it was really fun! There was music and games and... other things.” She explained, trying her best to reword the not so innocent night to her daughter.

“Wow!” Gasped Dinky. “That must have been awesome! I wish I could have gone.”

Ditzy smirked. One day her daughter would find out about Pinkie parties, but not anytime soon. Dinky’s stomach rumbled, resulting in a laugh from both of them.

“Well well!” Remarked Ditzy. “Looks like somepony needs mama’s special muffins.”

Dinky gave a squee of delight as she pulled Ditzy into a big hug. Ditzy hugged her back.

“I love you muffin.” Whispered Ditzy.

“I love you too mama.” Replied Dinky.

Ditzy yawned loudly as she stretched her aching limbs and wings. Dinky jumped down off the bed and left the room, allowing Ditzy time to make up the bed she had messed up during the night. The duvet was crumpled and messy and the corners of the sheets had been lifted revealing the bare mattress.

Ditzy giggled. That dream must have been very ‘physical’ for her bed to have ended up the bomb-site it had now become. After making her bed, brushing her teeth and flattening down her mane, Ditzy made her way through to the kitchen to begin the task of baking breakfast.

-An hour later-

Rainbow flew back towards Ponyville. She had wanted to clear the clouds blowing in from Whinnypeg as quickly as possible, but her hangover had definitely slowed her down more than she would have liked. As she touched down on the ground, she looked around. She had landed in the park which was full of playing colts and fillies. Parents were talking with each other, either on benches or blankets scattered around the large park, like pony confetti. Rainbow Dash couldn’t hear what the ponies were talking about. She didn’t even care. It was hardly likely to have interested her anyway.

Trotting towards the west exit, she spotted two familiar ponies on a bench near the exit. One of them a cream coloured earth pony with a navy and pink striped mane and tail. The other, sitting in a very awkward upright position, was a mint green unicorn with an equally mint green mane and tail with a paler stripe running through it. Rainbow smiled as she approached Lyra and Bon Bon.

“Hey guys!” Exclaimed Dash. “How are you two today?”

“Oh hey Dash. Are you OK?” Replied Lyra. “I’m definitely feeling the after effects of that party.” She motioned a hoof to her forehead as she said that.

“Ugh, me too.” Agreed Dash. “Still it was fun though; right?”

“You said it!” Remarked Lyra, leaning forward to give Dash a hoofbump.

Lyra then turned her head toward Bon Bon. “At least it would have been fun if little missy over here had kept the good times rolling.”

Rainbow and Lyra couldn’t help but stifle a giggle as Bon Bon turned a bright shade of red and face-hoofed.

“Lyra my dear.” Retorted Bon Bon. “However much I love you, it doesn’t stop me from giving you a good flank kicking every now and then.”

Lyra put on an enormous grin and wiggled her eyebrows. “Well Bonnie, the same could be said for you.”

Rainbow laughed as Bon Bon had to physically restrain herself from full on attacking Lyra. Lyra on the other hand was very much enjoying irritating Bon Bon, you could tell from her playful giggles. She then reached across and stroked her hoof across Bon Bon’s mane.

“It’s all in good fun Bonnie, it’s all in good fun.”

Rainbow looked at the scene set before her. Two ponies, one who had almost commited GBH on the other, were now sat calmly together. Rainbow shook her head. She had never really been in love before, it was a new emotion she was trying to understand for herself, but the ponies now gazing into each others eyes in front of her had painted a clearer picture in her mind of what love must be.

Rainbow bid farewell to Lyra and Bon Bon as she continued across town. It was a good ten minute walk to Ditzy’s home, two if she flew. But she didn’t feel like flying at all now which was strange for a pony like Rainbow Dash. She usually flew everywhere, but the prospect of once again seeing Ditzy had put her mind into overload.

“What if it’s awkward.” She thought to herself. A whole series of what-ifs now filled her usually clear mind. Rainbow had been so lost in thought that the time seemed to fly away, because pretty soon she was stood on the doorstep of Ditzy’s house. She gulped as she raised a hoof to knock on the front door.

“Well, here goes nothing.” She thought as she tapped on the door several times. She waited a few seconds before she could hear hoofsteps coming from within. As the door opened, Rainbow Dash found herself staring into the eyes of a filly unicorn. Dash couldn't believe how much the filly resembled Ditzy.

"Hey kid!" Said Dash. "Is your mom home?"

Dinky shot a cautious glance at the rainbow haired pegasus stood on her front doorstep.

"Mama, you got a visitor!" Shouted Dinky.

"OK muffin, i'm coming!" Came the voice of Ditzy from somewhere inside the house.

Rainbow waited outside the front door, seemingly having a stand-off with the young unicorn. A few seconds later, Rainbow was greeted with a smile as Ditzy appeared from round the doorway.

"Oh, hey Dashie!" Chirped Ditzy.

Hearing Ditzy call her by that nickname had caught Dash in a tough situation. She had to use all her willpower to stop her wings springing outwards.

"Hey Ditzy." Dash replied "Mind if I come in?"

Ditzy grinned even wider. "Sure thing!"

As the three ponies turned to go back into the house, Ditzy paused and looked at Dinky.

"Muffin, do you maybe want to go and play outside for a while with your friends?" Asked Ditzy.

Dinky smiled. "I'd love that mama!"

Dinky hastily gave Ditzy a hug before running outside to join her friends in the park.

Rainbow followed Ditzy through the hallway of her home. The smell of freshly baked muffins filled her nostrils, causing her to drool a bit. Ditzy's house was smaller than Dash's cloud home, but just about anything was smaller than Rainbow's cloud house.

As they reached the living area, the muffiny aroma became stronger, and to Dash even more heavenly. The room had a minimalistic feel to it, two sofas ran parallel to each wall. A small TV stood on an old looking stand and a relatively new coffee table took the space between both sofas. It felt homely to Dash. She never bothered with interior design, there was no point if your house was made of clouds.

Rainbow turned back to Ditzy, who seemed to be blushing a bit and turning away. They both stood there, allowing the awkward silence to consume them. Trying to find something to relieve the tension in the air. Rainbow cast her gaze towards the coffee table, a single muffin stood on a plate, beckoning Dash to gobble it up.

"Umm Ditzy, could I have that muffin over there" Dash asked, pointing a hoof at where the solitary muffin stood. "I kinda skipped breakfast."

Ditzy nodded and watched Dash make her way over to the middle of the room. As Dash walked, Ditzy couldn't help but glance at her flank. The glance turned into a stare, and the stare turned into a gaze. Ditzy was so preoccupied with Dash's flank she failed to address the problem of her wings flaring up. She didn't care though, Dash could see it for all she cared.

As Rainbow swallowed the last bite of muffin, she turned back towards Ditzy.

"Wow Ditzy, that muffin was grea..."

Rainbow didn't manage to finish her sentence, what she saw standing a metre or so in front of her was enough to grind her to a halt. Ditzy stood looking at Rainbow, a blush spread across the grey mares face, her eyes were focused and her wings were standing at full mast on her back.

All Dash could do was stare back. She had to admit to herself, Ditzy was a very attractive mare. Ditzy could also bake remarkably well, something she herself could not. Dash decided that actions would speak louder than words, so acting on impulse she beckoned Ditzy over to the couch. Ditzy trotted over to the couch as Dash lay down on her side.

Ditzy lowered her head to Dash's. Rainbow met Ditzy's eager lips halfway as they lost themselves in a passionate kiss. Rainbow finally allowed her wings to stretch outwards, and as they unfurled, they were resisted from fully opening by the couch cushions.

Dash moaned. The stress now exerted on her wings had sent an electric tingle down her spine. She opened her mouth wider as she allowed Ditzy's impatient tongue access. Ditzy began rubbing her hoof against the delicate feathers of Dash’s wings, eliciting further moans. They could have made out on the couch for hours, but Ditzy broke the kiss.

"Aww, I was enjoying that." Complained Dash

Ditzy wiped a trickle of saliva from her mouth as she regained her breath.

"Why don't we take this somewhere a little more private." Said Ditzy suggestively, winking as she did so.

She turned towards the hallway, beckoning Rainbow Dash to follow. Dash rolled off the couch before trotting quickly to catch up with Ditzy. The two giggled as they both entered Ditzy's room, locking the door behind them.

Muffins & Rainbows
Chapter 5

By UK-Brony 95

Ditzy and Rainbow fell back onto the bed, panting heavily from their recent physical exertion. They both nuzzled each other as they slowly came down from their euphoric heights. Ditzy rubbed a hoof through Dash’s colourful mane, now slightly damp with sweat, as she gazed deeply into Rainbow’s beautiful magenta eyes. Rainbow gave a satisfied sigh as she shuffled closer to Ditzy and pressed her muzzle against hers in a short, sweet kiss.

“I guess the saying is true.” Exclaimed Ditzy, smirking.

Rainbow Dash traded her look of contentment for one of confusion.
“Saying? What saying?”

Ditzy giggled. “That there is a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow.”

Rainbow blushed as Ditzy continued giggling. She gave a weak grin before sitting up again in the bed. Ditzy frowned, she wanted to keep looking at the magenta gemstones occupying Rainbow’s eye sockets.

“Lie back down.” Ditzy whined.

Dash turned back to face the grey pegasus. While Ditzy was whining, she had put on a pout in a vain attempt to get her to obey. Rainbow was a sucker for adorableness, and the pout Ditzy had put on wasn’t helping. She had planned to go and make some coffee to rejuvenate their energy, but it could wait.

Rainbow lay down on the bed. Ditzy immediately pulled her into a snuggle. As Dash returned the embrace, she thought she heard sniffling. Looking at the pegasus beside her, Dash noticed tears welling up in Ditzy’s crossed eyes, slowly starting to dribble down her cheeks. Rainbow furrowed her brow in concern.

“Hey. What’s wrong?”

Ditzy turned her head away, a blush forming on her cheeks as a growing sense of awkwardness overcame her. The tears now ran down her face as feelings caught up with her. Dash had no idea how to calm the sobbing pegasus, she never was too good at dealing with emotions. She instead did something her own mother would have done when Dash was feeling down; she leaned over to Ditzy and wrapped her hooves around her. Rainbow then started quietly humming a small tune into Ditzy’s ear. She had no idea why, but it was the only thing she could think of to calm the sobbing mare.

Ditzy lowered her head into Dash’s shoulder, enjoying both the embrace and the melody. She calmed down as she allowed Dash’s body heat and scent to fill her up. Rainbow Dash smelled of wild berries with just a hint of spice, and after their activities a slight whiff of sweat.

After Ditzy had managed to calm herself, she looked up at Rainbow. She took a hoof off of the blue pegasus, rubbed the tears from her face, before returning it to Dash’s withers.

“You wanna tell me what that was about?” Rainbow asked sympathetically.

Ditzy nodded her head as she took a deep breath to try and calm herself some more.

“It’s just... You are the first pony in years to...” She trailed off.

Dash leaned over to Ditzy as she whispered the last part her sentence.
“... Show me love.”

Rainbow felt deeply touched at Ditzy’s words. She didn’t say anything back to the grey mare; instead Rainbow Dash leaned in for another kiss. She mainly just wanted Ditzy to feel secure in her time of need. Ditzy closed her eyes as her mind traveled to a beautiful single cloud high in the sky, views in all directions as far as the eye could see. She felt far away from all her problems. She was brought back into the room when Rainbow removed her muzzle from hers.

“I’m gonna go make some coffee, want some?” Rainbow asked.

Ditzy pondered the question for a moment. She wasn’t a huge coffee lover, but she could make an exception from time to time.

“Yeah I’d love one.” Ditzy replied, stretching the truth slightly. “Just let me shower first, I’m all sweaty.”

Dash threw the quilt off of herself and then rolled off the bed. Ditzy followed close behind, her eyes transfixed on Rainbow as her tail swished hypnotically from side to side. Ditzy reached the bathroom and went inside, but peered round the still open door as she watched Rainbow trot down the hallway. Dash suddenly stopped in the hallway and turned her head to face Ditzy, a small grin on her face. Ditzy blushed as she quickly pulled her head back in and slammed the door shut. She listened to Dash’s laughing as she twiddled the shower faucet. A nice shower would definitely clear her mind.

-25 minutes later-

Ditzy rubbed a towel through her mane as she slowly opened the bathroom door. Steam poured out into the hallway as Ditzy trotted out, immersing her in a haze of warmth. Soon though the steam dissipated, leaving Ditzy in the cold. As she walked into the living room, the smell of coffee filled her nostrils. She looked over to the couch, where Rainbow lay comfortably on her stomach watching some sort of concert on TV. Two cups of coffee sat atop the table, one of which was half drained.

As she trotted into the room, Rainbow sat up and turned towards the door where Ditzy was stood. Rainbow smiled at Ditzy, before turning away and reaching for both mugs of coffee. She turned back and offered the full one to Ditzy.

“Still want it?” Rainbow asked.

Ditzy nodded and made her way over to the couch. She sat next to Rainbow as the cup was passed into her hooves. It was still quite hot, so Ditzy took care when sipping it. She sunk deeper into the couch as the drink warmed her belly. There wasn’t enough sugar for Ditzy’s taste, but then what she called coffee would be too sugary for even Pinkie to handle. She decided to put the cup back on the table seeing as she probably wouldn’t be wanting it again. Ditzy focused on the TV, Dash bobbed her head in time with the electric beats seeping from the TV. A white unicorn with a blue mane and a pair of purple shades was working the deck. Lasers and other light displays illuminated the stage. Even through the TV screen, Ditzy could feel the vibration making it’s way through the couch.

“Who’s that?” Asked Ditzy.

Rainbow returned a mixed look of shock and surprise. Her mouth hung open as the power of speech was momentarily ripped from her grasp. Once the initial shock had worn off, she pointed to the TV.

“You don’t know who that is?” Dash asked, clearly still dumbfounded.

Ditzy felt awkward, she felt as though she’d asked a stupid question. She’d never really kept up to date with music, she barely owned any CD’s, and the ones she did were easily older than five years.

“Well... no.” Ditzy replied

Rainbow facehoofed. She then looked up at Ditzy’s confused face with an expression that read ‘I am not amused’.

“That’s only the most popular musician in Equestria!” Dash exclaimed. “That was her last tour, wait for this year's one!”

Ditzy glanced back at the TV, an amazing light display dominated the stage. The unicorn’s shades glinted more colours than Ditzy thought existed. As she listened to the electro music, she noticed her hind leg begin twitching, synchronised with each beat of the fast paced music. Rainbow averted her gaze from the TV when a bobbing grey leg caught her attention. She watched as Ditzy twitched her leg, slowly drawing her eyes up the mailmare’s body. She had lost all interest in the TV show, the music becoming little more than a dull thudding in the background.

Ditzy was enjoying the music, but was interrupted when she felt a slight weight on her haunches. She turned her head to face a now blushing Rainbow Dash. She cast a smile at Rainbow as she felt her own blush starting to burn her cheeks.

"You look so cute when you blush." Said Dash.

Ditzy could have collapsed had she not been sitting down. Dash just called her cute, increasing the redness of her blush by at least five shades. Ditzy could have returned a cheesy romantic one liner, but instead felt it more apt to lean accross and lie on top of Dash.

"You're cute too..." Ditzy whispered. She nuzzled up to Dash and gave her a peck on the lips.

Under the weight of the pegasus on top of her, Dash was unable to move. Not that she'd want to. She reveled in the kiss, her mind begging for more. Dash let out a giggle as she craned her neck up to Ditzy. The grey mare knew exactly what Dash was after, and being the generous pony she was, readily gave the eagerly awaited gift.

They wrapped each others hooves around their haunches as they sloppily explored each others mouths. Ditzy broke the kiss only momentarily to shut off the volume on the TV so she could focus more on her own private show. Finally in silence, the two pegasi could fully concentrate on each other, feeling each other's pulses race as their tongues danced together, performing a perfect serenade.

So engrossed in their 'activity', they failed to notice the front door slowly squeak open. A certain unicorn filly had decided to call it a day at the park, and had returned home to surprise her mom with an early return. Dinky was about to call out for her Mama when she heard giggling from the living room.

Dinky tip-trotted through the hallway of the house, she didn't want to ruin the surprise. As Dinky poked her head around the doorframe of the living room, she heard a small squeak, followed by more giggling.

The couch was positioned with its back to the door, so Dinky couldn't see what was going on. She could see a shock of blonde barely peeking over the top, and a rainbow tail cascading down the side of the armrest like a tasty looking waterfall.

As Dinky tried her best to be quiet, she couldn't help but snicker at how her Mama might react. Dinky knew she could always surprise her mom with a sneak attack, and her mission of stealth was going well. As Dinky reached the couch, she stood up on her hind legs. She hooked her hooves around the back rest and waited for the oppurtune moment.

Suddenly, Dinky sprang up as high as she could so she could make the leap onto the back rest.

"SURPRISE!" Shouted Dinky at the top of her lungs.

Ditzy's eyes sprang open in fear as she toppled off of Dash, screaming all the while. The sudden shock had caught both pegasi by surprise, Rainbow's face became stuck in a look of abject terror as Ditzy's scream pierced the air.

Dinky could not remember the last time she had laughed so hard. She toppled forward onto the couch cushion where Ditzy, now on the floor, lay moments ago.

Ditzy and Rainbow both shared a look of mild embarrasment as they tried to regain their composures. Neither of the two could speak, still too shocked to converse like regular ponies.

Rainbow rolled off the couch as she extended a hoof to Ditzy. The grey mare latched onto it and managed to get to her hooves. Rainbow gave an embarrased look at Ditzy, blushing hotter than burning coals.

"I'm... umm... going home now." Stammered Dash. She was oddly quick in leaving Ditzy's house, not even a proper goodbye was given.

Ditzy cast an annoyed look at her daughter, not only had Dinky ruined a good time with Dash, she had probably scared her off for good.

"Dinky! Why would you do that! Mama got very scared!"

Dinky wiped a tear from her eye as she calmed down. She stopped giggling when she met her mom's disapproving stare.

"Sorry mama, when I came in I couldn't find you, but then I heard laughing in here." Dinky explained. "I thought it would be funny to surprise you so I did! Please don't be mad mama!"

Ditzy's heart melted at her little filly's apology. She couldn't stay mad at her, and pulled the young unicorn into a big hug, which was returned gratefully.

After a few minutes, Dinky spoke up.

"So who won that tickle fight anyway?"

Ditzy smiled at the innocence of her daughter as she released her from the hug. She grinned wickedly as she gently prodded a hoof into Dinky's ribs.

"No one, but I will now!"

Dinky shrieked in delight as her mom unleashed a barrage of ferocious tickles into her belly and ribs, cursing her ticklishness with each sharp intake of breath she took.

Muffins & Rainbows

Chapter 6

By UK-Brony 95

“Good night Mama.”

“Good night Muffin.”

It was a little past 9 P.M. in the Doo household. Ditzy stretched her neck over to Dinky’s cheek, and gave her a small kiss goodnight. The unicorn yawned as she snuggled into the pillow, allowing the heat of the covers to shield her from the cool bedroom air. Ditzy smiled as she turned to leave Dinky’s room. She slowly shut the bedroom door, trying to create as little noise as possible. As Ditzy trotted down the hallway, she looked up at some of the few pictures hanging on the wall. She glanced at each picture as she trotted by, memories flowing through her mind all the while. She rarely paid any attention to the photos, having become used to them after many years of them hanging there.

Ditzy reached the living room and walked over to the coffee table. She hadn’t cleaned up after Rainbow Dash had left and as a result the surface was very cluttered. An empty, crumb covered plate took up the center. Two mugs stood on either side, one half full of coffee, and a few magazines lay strewn across the floor. It was in simple terms, a mess.

Ditzy sighed as she picked up the mugs and placed them on her back. She hated cleaning up, but it was one of those things that had to be done. She picked up the plate in her teeth and carefully carried everything through to the kitchen. The last thing she wanted now was something else to clean up. She put the plate and mugs on the sideboard and started running hot water into the sink.

After washing and drying the dishes, Ditzy put them all back into the correct cabinets. She left the kitchen, turned off the lights, and made her way back to the living room. Ditzy picked up the magazines that were scattered around the floor, and piled them neatly underneath the table. Pleased that the room was now mess free, she settled down onto the couch hoping to catch ‘Equestrian Idol’. The show was usually exciting for Ditzy, but after Rainbow Dash’s entertainment, it seemed relatively boring. Ditzy rolled over onto her stomach, propping up her head with a hoof, wondering why her usual routine seemed so dull right now.

“I’ve got a good job, a nice house and I’ve got Dinky.” She thought. “What more could I ask for?”

She didn’t even have to think about that. Ditzy slowly lowered her head onto the armrest, allowing her hooves to drop over the edge.

“Friends...”

Ditzy replayed the single word through her head several times. In her entire life, she had had only a hoof-full of friends. Some had moved away, others had moved on. Her mind trailed to the thought of her only current friend, the only friend she had ever felt a proper connection with, the only friend she had ever wanted to be with.

“Rainbow.” She whispered.

Her mind wandered to the blue pegasus. She had no idea why, but when she was with Rainbow earlier, she felt something she had never really felt before. She felt safe. She felt relaxed. She felt... loved. Ditzy’s eyelids drooped and tiredness set into her body like a heavy weight. The soft couch cushions warped slightly under the pegasus’ weight. She imagined Rainbow was wrapping her in a tight embrace, breathing hotly on the nape of her neck. Ditzy’s tension flowed out of her in a long sigh. Dash was comforting even when she was imaginary.

Ditzy was about to nod off when she heard a brief tapping on the front door. Her eyes snapped open and imagination Dash disappeared. She frowned as the cold she had previously failed to notice ran through her body, giving her a small shiver. She dragged herself off of the couch with a small groan. As Ditzy made her way through the hallway, the tapping on the door repeated, slightly quicker and louder than before.

“I’m coming! Keep your horseshoes on!” Ditzy called out.

She released the catch on the door and pulled it open. On the other side stood Rainbow Dash, her colourful mane and tail gently swaying in the chilly night air. Ditzy was pleasantly surprised at the arrival of the cyan mare, the surprise knocking the tiredness out of her system. Her dream mere seconds ago was coming true.

“Hi Rainbow Dash!” She chirped. “What brings you here, something the matter?”

Rainbow Dash just stood at the doorstep, scraping a hoof against the floor. She looked up at the grey mare in front of her. She opened her mouth to say something, anything, and her mouth shut again. A light blush was starting to appear on her face. She had practised what she would say while she was up in her cloud home, but now she had completely seized up.

Ditzy stared confusedly at Rainbow Dash. She hadn’t known the cyan pegasus for that long, but from what she had gathered, Rainbow Dash was usually very confident and not afraid to speak her mind.

Just as Dash was about to turn tail and fly away from the mailmare’s house, Ditzy had moved towards her and put a comforting hoof over her withers. The grey pegasus’ off-set eyes tried their hardest to focus on Dash’s. The cyan mare’s eyes glistened like two purple gemstones, and to Ditzy, were more than twice as beautiful.

“It’s ok Rainbow, you can tell me.” She spoke softly, gazing deeply into the blue mare’s eyes.

Rainbow Dash hesitated. She had never been very good with words, especially when she felt as awkward as she did right then. She drew in a deep breath. For one reason or another, she was getting worked up over something as simple as talking. She would usually have almost no problem speaking to her friends, but it was different with Ditzy somehow. She was unlike anypony Dash had ever met before.

“OK Rainbow, you got this, just like we rehearsed.”

“Well, umm. I just wanted to ask if, you know, maybe you wanted to...” She trailed off.

“Do I want to... what?” Replied Ditzy.

Rainbow Dash sighed. “J... Just follow me.”

Ditzy withdrew her hoof from Dash’s withers. She stared at the ground for a few seconds before looking back up.

“I would, but I can’t leave Dinky on her own, i’m sorry Rainbow.”

Rainbow unfurled her wings and then hovered above Ditzy.

“It’ll only be 10 minutes!” Rainbow pleaded.

Ditzy looked back into the house, unsure of what to do. She could go with Rainbow, but what if Dinky needed her while she was gone? What if she got hurt? What if a giant swarm of mutant muffins came and...

Ditzy shook her head, she’d lost her train of thought. She disspelled the massive mutant mega muffins from her mind and returned her thoughts back to Rainbow Dash.

“I’m really not sure Rainbow, what if she needs me while I’m gone?”

Rainbow Dash sighed. She didn’t want to have to resort to it but desperate times called for desperate measures. Rainbow pulled the cutest puppy dog face she could muster. Dash’s bottom lip trembled, her ears flopped and she tried her best to force a few tears, hoping to melt away Ditzy’s heart.

Unfortunately for Ditzy’s resolve, Dash’s display of adorableness was working. The grey mare always was a sucker for cuteness, and probably always would be.

“10 minutes and that’s it, ok?” Said Ditzy.

Dash pumped her hoof victoriously before smiling happily at the grey pegasus. Ditzy stepped outside into the frigid night air before pulling the door closed behind her. She shivered slightly, not yet being acclimatised to the cooler outside air.

“Ready to go?” Called Dash from above.

“All set.” Replied Ditzy. She stretched her wings a few times, warming them up to prevent any cramps mid-flight. One time, she had forgotten to do the stretches and ended up ruining an entire bag of mail by crash-landing into a lake.

Ditzy and Dash had soon flown a few hundred metres above Ponyville. The refreshing night breeze brushed through the pegasus’ feathers like a fine comb, tickling their wing-tips in the most pleasurable of ways. The pair carelessly soared through the air above Ponyville; dipping, diving and swooping in what seemed like some form of aerial tango. She knew that she had to get back to Dinky, but she told herself that a few more moments in the air with Dash wouldn’t hurt.

Ditzy let out a laugh of pure joy, she couldn’t remember the last time she had so much fun performing the simple task of flying. The only comparable experience would be when she first learned how. The wind rushed through Ditzy’s mane and tickled her ears, bringing a further sense of bliss to the grey mare.

“Hey Ditzy, this way!” Rainbow Dash called out. Ditzy altered her course towards Dash, who was descending toward the summit of a large hill. When Ditzy landed, Rainbow was staring out into the distance, seemingly fixated on one spot in the rolling landscape. The sun had set just an hour previously, leaving the moon to bathe the landscape in a dimmer, somehow more tranquil glow.

The two pegasi’ sat side by side, captivated by the beauty of Equestria at night. The moon peeked out from behind the towers of Canterlot, silhouetting their forms and making them seem more mysterious, magical and magnificent. A faint glow emanated from the valley, presumably from Ponyville, but it was too dark to make out any significant landmarks.

They sat in comfortable silence. Not a word needed to be said, for they already knew what the other was thinking. Ditzy leaned over and rested her head against Rainbow’s shoulder. The soft, cyan fur smelt of wild berries, and the warmth radiating from it was delightful against the cooler air.

“I come here a lot.” Said Dash, barely above a whisper. “When I just need time alone, no distractions, no nothing, I just fly over here.”

Dash looked out into the distance, her mane blowing gently in the breeze. This had always been her favourite secluded spot, better even than her cloud home. If clouds weren't so comfy, she wouldn't have to think twice about making her home here.

"It's beautiful, Dash," whispered Ditzy.

"You think so? I'm pretty sure you've seen better stuff," said Rainbow Dash.

Ditzy giggled before looking at Dash with a cheeky grin. "I guess you could say that, if you know what I mean."

Rainbow Dash looked confused, putting a hoof up to her chin in thought. Ditzy’s grin spread wider and wider as she waited for Dash to catch onto the double entendre.

After a few moments, the penny dropped. Dash's expression said it all as her face turned red. Ditzy finally released the giggles she had suppressed for a few moments, and began rolling around on the ground, in absolute hysterics. Rainbow facehoofed, causing tears of laughter to roll down Ditzy’s face.

As her laughter faded, Ditzy wiped away her tears and sat back next to Dash. The grey mare looked the blue pony in the eyes, Dash’s magenta irises far surpassed all the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Ditzy slowly began to move her head towards the blue pegasus. Dash mirrored her movement. A warmth spread through her chest, and an errant breeze carried the scent of muffins to her nose.

As their lips came closer and closer together, Ditzy wrapped her forelegs around Dash's withers.

"I love you Dash." She whispered.

The blue pegasus smiled. It was the first time in a very long time that anypony had said that they loved her. It was a very comforting feeling, knowing that somepony cared about her.

"I love you too, Ditzy." She replied quietly, before their lips met.

A surge of emotion rushed through the grey pegasus' body, putting her at an all time high.

The kiss started slowly, but as the moments went by, it became more heated and intimate. Ditzy's tongue danced with Rainbow's as they explored each others mouths. Dash tasted a strong hint of blueberry muffins, while Ditzy tasted a mix of toothpaste and toast. Dash stroked the feathers on Ditzy's wings in a wide, circular motion, stimulating them into slowly rising up, and stand rigid on her back. Ditzy responded by repeating the motion, with a bit more force. Ditzy felt wonderful being able to give back some of the pleasure she was receiving. The pair of blue wings sprang open on Dash's back, indicating that Ditzy

With their lips still locked in a kiss, they started to fondle each others wings. Gasps of pleasure left their mouths when each others hooves brushed across particularly sensitive parts of the wing. They both knew the most sensitive spots were the wing-tips and the base; and they exploited the sensitive spots to the best of their ability. Dash had to admit, Ditzy was a master at wing fondling. She was hitting all of the most pleasurable spots. Dash’s competitive side began to come through, she didn’t want to be outperformed and so pushed Ditzy over backwards, pinning her forelegs to the ground.

"Didn't think I’d let you lead the whole time, did you?" Dash smirked.

Ditzy just snorted, all that mattered was that she got to spend the rest of the night here with Dash.

"Wait... Rest of the night?" Ditzy thought. A sudden realisation hit her.

"Umm, Rainbow, how long have we been up here?"

Rainbow Dash shrugged. "I don't know, i'd say about 15 minutes."

A burst of panic swept through Ditzy, totally annihilating the feeling of eagerness she had felt just a few moments prior. She tried to roll over, but Dash's weight prevented her from moving.

Ditzy was getting frantic, the image of a giant muffin crushing her house became all too real.

"Rainbow, get off, I need to go!" She said anxiously.

Rainbow Dash pouted. "Aww, but we were just having fun!"

Ditzy didn't want to waste time. She brought up a hoof, and lightly jabbed it into Rainbow Dash's ribs. The blue pony squealed before toppling backwards, cursing her ticklishness.

Finally free from under Dash's weight, Ditzy rolled over and stood up. She trotted over to the blue pony, happy with her victory.

"Y'know, you're really cute when you squeal like that." Ditzy said.

Rainbow Dash blushed. "Well, you're cute all the time." Rainbow Dash was surprised at her own choice of words. Cute wasn't a word she often used at all, let alone to describe another pony

Ditzy giggled at the face Dash pulled. "I've got some free time at 1 tomorrow, we can meet up if you want."

Dash smiled. "Yea, i'm free to hang out then."

"Perfect, meet at Sugarcube Corner?" Ditzy suggested.

Rainbow nodded. "Sounds great, I'll be there."

The two had one final cuddle and kiss, before going their separate ways. Ditzy glided down the hill towards her home, hoping that nothing had gone wrong in her absence.

----------

As her house came into sight, she prepared herself to land. It had never been her strong point, due to her lousy depth perception. She concentrated hard, waiting for her hoof to touch down. Unfortunately, she was travelling just too fast and her hoof clipped the ground, sending her tumbling.

When she stopped, she rubbed her head. "Ouch, not again." She grumbled to herself, while dusting herself off. She stretched out and prodded her limbs in various places, checking for possible damage. To her relief, she hadn't hurt anything too badly, she was just a bit sore. She walked the remaining distance to her house. Shaking any excess dust out of her coat, she opened the front door.

"Mama, mama! I'm so happy you're back!" Cheered Dinky, while galloping towards the pegasus. She jumped onto her mama, almost sending them both shooting out the door.

"Dinky? What are you doing up, I thought I told you to go to sleep."

"Well I was, but I couldn't sleep so I got up to get some water, but I couldn't reach any cups so I tried using magic and... and..." The filly cut off, before a single tear rolled down her face. It was shortly followed by another, and then another. "It was an accident, I'm sorry!"

Confused, Ditzy moved through the house to see what was the matter, the little unicorn in tow. Upon reaching the kitchen, Ditzy poked her head inside. A few cups and plates lay smashed on the floor, and the fruit bowl had taken an unfortunate trip downwards, scattering its contents across the ground.

Ditzy sighed. This wasn't the first mishap her daughter had had with magic. The pegasus looked down and met her daughter’s large golden eyes.

“It wouldn’t have happened if I had pretty wings like yours.” Dinky said, nuzzling up to her mama. Ditzy couldn’t be mad at her daughter, after all, it had just been an accident. The grey mare stroked a comforting hoof through the filly unicorn’s mane, casting out all unease.

“What do you say you get back to bed, and I’ll bring you some water.”

Dinky nodded, while wiping the few tears off of her face. “Thanks Mama, I love you.”

The unicorn filly trotted back to her bedroom, leaving Ditzy to confront the mess in the kitchen.

“How was I blessed with something so adorable?” thought Ditzy, while taking care not to cut herself on the broken glass and china. After a few minutes of careful sweeping, Ditzy piled the broken plates and glasses into the trash. She then turned her attention to the fruit bowl, miraculously not broken, but its contents were scattered across the floor. A few fruits were bruised but still edible, while others were completely squashed and were leaking juice onto the floor. When the squashed fruit was thrown away and the good fruit was placed back in the bowl, Ditzy filled a cup with water and made her way out of the kitchen, through the hallway, and finally into Dinky’s room.

“Thanks mama.” Said Dinky, taking a small sip from the cup as soon as it was given to her. She then carefully placed it onto the bedside table and snuggled back into the pillow.

“You get some sleep now, you’ve stayed up for too long past your bedtime, you’ve got school tomorrow.” Said Ditzy.

The filly yawned, it had been a long day and she was feeling the effects of her late night.

“Goodnight, Muffin.” Said Ditzy, giving her daughter a goodnight kiss. She watched the filly’s breathing become deeper, before making her way into the hallway and closing the bedroom door behind her.

Ditzy slowly closed the filly’s bedroom door, before making her way through the house turning off all the lights. She started at the far end of the house, in the living room. Then switching off lights behind her as she made her way to her own room. When she reached her room, she switched off the final She hopped up onto the bed and slipped between the sheets. Her eyelids closed as she let out a long, relaxed sigh. Pretty soon, her mind had left the waking world and was now in a land of muffins and rainbows.
