Fallout Equestria: Half Breeds
Chapter 7: Chapter 6: Breaking Walls
Previous Chapter Next ChapterBlitz was dropping through an endless void of blackness, not knowing at all, where he was. That was the problem with memory orbs, they made the user lose all sense of where they were. Blitz was a little worried about Azure being left alone again, but he didn't stress too much over it. Azure was capable of many things, especially looking after himself. Blitz had to focus on one thing while he was inside the memory orb. That one thing was himself.
Visibility was received, as Blitz was able to see the memory that was taking place. His head was locked in one direction, due to the memory being a perspective one. A memory orb that ponies could experience from the point of view of the pony that the orb had come from. Blitz tried to roll his eyes, but couldn't, as his character looked to the sky, seeing all of the pegusi working above.
All of the pegusi that Blitz could see, were bright and colourful. Where did the time go, Blitz thought to himself, only being able to watch and not to do. Blitz began to see a ripple in the memory, but didn't batter an eyelid at it, he just ignored it. Returning to the pegusi, Blitz saw that they all had cutie marks and were enjoying what they were doing, due to the happy smiles on their faces. How wrong he was about that!
Not being in control, the body that he was possessing looked back down towards an orange mare. The possessed pony couldn't help but look at the orange pony's flank, which Blitz immediately tried to avert his eyes from looking at it. Sadly, he was unsuccessful in doing so. It was almost as if he was paralyzed, but able to move at the same time, which was what was happening. The feeling of being paralyzed was bad enough, let alone somepony moving his body for him, making the choices that he didn't want to make. This frustrated Blitz a lot.
Returning to what Blitz was doing, or what the pony that Blitz was inside of was doing, he looked away as soon as her head turned to look back at him.
"You'll do fine, sugar cube!" The orange mare called out from ahead. Blitz's controller just nodded and sunk his head to the floor, admiring the floor, as they both cobbled along towards someplace. Blitz took this time to understand who the mare was.
The mare was called Applejack! She was one of the ministry mares that ran Equestria, turning it into what it was now. How badly could pony-kind mess up the beautiful landscape of post-war Equestria? That was a question for some notes or another memory orb to answer.
Getting back to the scene, the pony that Blitz was spectating looked back up at a massive castle. It was unlike anything Blitz had ever seen. He knew exactly who the castle had belonged to, but didn't know anything else about it. The castle in question was Canterlot Castle. It was home to two of Equestria's most iconic duo, Celestia and Luna, both of them being princesses. Blitz wanted to know what Applejack and the pony, that Blitz was being forced to watch, were doing at Canterlot Castle.
Judging by the name of the castle, Blitz knew exactly where he was in a time that he was unfamiliar with, although living in it for a brief amount of time. He was in Canterlot! Canterlot was a place of wonder, because Blitz had lived there secretly for years, but was evacuated away from it. Remembering that he was a part of the timeline that ruined Equestria, put a frown on Blitz's muzzle, behind the pony shield he was observing from, almost being exactly the same as one way glass, just in the shape of a pony.
They were both walking to the main entrance of the castle, when out of nowhere, a couple of other ponies were spotted entering the castle too. The other ministry mares! Blitz, still being unable to move himself, thought that it might have been a better use of his time to take in all of the scenery, while the pony that he was spectating was outside.
All of the clouds that covered the sky, had vanished and left a familiar, yet unfamiliar light in the sky. The sun! Princess Celestia's orb of blinding that she could move on command. If the sun was not in the sky, then Celestia would not have been awake. Would that have ment that in Blitz's reality, Celestia was gone? Or was the cloud layer too thick? Those were the questions that Blitz wanted to know.
Armoured pony guards patrolled around the area, eyes glancing at every corner, making sure that not even a rock could move. They turned their stone-like head and glanced in Blitz's direction. Inside the body, it made Blitz tremble a little, but that didn't scare the pony who was on the outside, the one that Blitz was unable to command.
Walking closer to the main door, the pony that Blitz was observing, stopped. They turned their head to look at one of the guards, putting them a little more on edge than Blitz was. The pony that Blitz was observing obviously had some power about them, due to them being confident enough to walk up to a guard, let alone make one sweat. Blitz observed a single beat of sweat drop down the forehead of one of the guards.
Blitz eased up a little, knowing that he was behind an even more powerful pony. Regaining composure, the pony turned and caught up to Applejack, looking back at the guard as they got to her. turning back to Applejack, Blitz was introduced to the most fabulous door he had ever seen. The door to Canterlot Castle!
The door opened to a sight that only a couple of ponies and creatures had ever seen. Lines of guards, standing side by side, looked at both Applejack and Blitz's carrier. Applejack stared back, making most of them look away, not trying to challenge the ministry mare. The rest of the guards stared somewhat angrily at the pony that Blitz was seeing through.
As they both began to walk in, the doors began to close behind them. Blitz's vision panned around behind him to see two guard ponies following them both. Blitz could feel anxiety pass over the pony's emotions, as he looked forward again and resumed walking, as casually as he could.
The guards either side of Blitz kept their eyes locked to him, observing the pony's every move. Even Blitz felt a little anxious and he wasn't even real in this timeline, he hadn't even been born at that date. They both continued their never-ending march, towards another set of doors, the doors to the main room.
The pony that Blitz observed, turned his head around, looking at all of the pictures and stained glass windows that displayed stories of events. One of them stood out to Blitz, one of all of the ministry mares banishing a darkened figure. Blitz couldn't make out what the figure was, but he was pretty sure that it was part of a pony. It felt like Blitz knew who the pony was, but it didn't click into his head instantly.
All of the windows were stained glass. It made the inside seem so beautiful and bright, even in the dark times of the upcoming war. They didn't know that, did they? Was it inevitable? Blitz shook his mind, not being able to shake his actual head. Blitz's controller looked forward and paused, seeing that there was another pony coming to them both. This one was a pink one!
Blitz knew her name, she was another ministry mare after all and probably one of the most memorable too. Pinkie Pie approached them! She was looking at the stained glass windows and then looked over in their direction. She waved to Applejack and began to walk over to speak to her. Blitz wanted to see what all of the ministry mares were like, so he did his best to take in everything he could.
"Hi ya Pinkie! How ya been?" Applejack asked Pinkie, trying to start up a conversation with her. Pinkie nodded and walked over to Applejack, looking like she was onto something, something that had an end. Applejack noticed that Pinkie Pie was acting a little weird too, so she walked over to her and put a hoof on her shoulder. "Pinkie?" Applejack questioned. Pinkie Pie looked at her and tilted her head.
"Yes Applejack? Did I not already answer your question?" Pinkie Pie asked her. Applejack shook her head like there was no tomorrow and then looked back at the pink pony. "Hmm… well I'm in the middle of thinking of something that our good old friend Blitz here can use during his time in the Wasteland, to protect himself!" Pinkie Pie explained, shocking Blitz in the process. How did Pinkie…? Nevermind!
"Umm… Pinkie? What are you on about? We are here for the meeting with Princess Luna. What is the Wasteland? Wha… Who is Blitz?" Applejack pouted, getting slightly annoyed that she didn't know the answers. Pinkie Pie chuckled softly, making Applejack cock an eyebrow at her.
"Well, I could tell you that Blitz is right there…" Pinkie Pie stated, pointing to the pony that Blitz was spectating from. Applejack looked over to the pony that he was inside and she turned back to Pinkie Pie with a blank expression.
"No, that's Night Shadow, one of Princess Luna's associates that she wanted me to gather for her. Twilight has the other associate." Applejack butted in, pointing a hoof at Night Shadow. "He's a factory owner and helps create PipBucks!" Applejack blurted out, adding to the reasons why Night Shadow was there. He coughed slightly and raised his head up, before stopping and bringing it back down again, to normal head level.
"...anyway, before you stopped me AJ, I was going to say that Blitz is a pony… yeah, a pony who is watching this through a memory orb of Night Shadow's here. He picked it up from your desk, in your little secret area." Pinkie Pie explained, looking to Applejack for confirmation. She had none, only the look of fear of what secrets Pinkie Pie knew. The ministry of morale was a strange place for Pinkie Pie to be, but somehow she managed to fit in fine.
"Why did Pinkie Pie state me as a pony and not a changeling?" Blitz asked himself, unable to speak. He just thought about the words and put them into the sentence. At that moment, Pinkie Pie stopped talking to Applejack and slowly turned her head to Night Shadow's location. She slowly walked up to him and held him still and put her mouth to his ear.
"Because I don't discriminate against changelings. They are still ponies to me!" Pinkie Pie stated, hearing a crack somewhere, almost like she had just broken something. The fourth wall? Definitely! "Yep! I'm good at that." Pinkie Pie added, before walking back to Applejack and regaining where she left off. Night Shadow was very confused, but not as confused as Blitz was.
Night Shadow shook his head and walked up to Applejack, before waiting for a little while, before both Pinkie Pie and Applejack were finished with their conversations. Pinkie Pie bounced into the next room and Applejack followed her, only walking and a lot slower. She looked back at Night Shadow and raised an eyebrow.
"Ya coming or what? This is a conference for you, so that your products can reach far and wide across Stable Tec." Applejack inspired, seeing Night Shadow trot over to her. She opened the huge door, struggling a tiny bit, before the entire room was revealed. It was beautiful.
The room was full of ponies and creatures. They were all chatting and mingling with each other, making Night Shadow feel at ease. Blitz spotted a number of ponies that he had seen from posters around Equestria. Some of those ponies included the ministry mares, all of them, Derpy, the CMC and the princesses, Luna and Celestia. Blitz was overwhelmed by all of this. If he was in his body, able to feel his emotions, through his chitin and blood, he would have fainted.
Most of the ponies ignored them, as they passed plenty of talkative ponies and creatures. It was overwhelming for Blitz, let alone Night Shadow. Applejack got up onto the main part, where Night Shadow would be standing. He slowly climbed a couple of steps, before turning around and facing the audience. This was going to make him scared, but what could he do? He needed this! To promote himself as an individual and to promote his factory that he was running.
Applejack stopped all of the talking, using her hindlegs to create an earth-shaking noise. All of the ponies and creatures stopped and turned, Applejack gaining their attention. She stood back and pointed a hoof to Night Shadow and bowed.
"Thank you, Applejack!" Came a raspy voice, the voice of Night Shadow, as he thanked Applejack.
As soon as he was about to start talking, he closed his eyes and held his head, almost like he had a sudden headache. Within an instant, Blitz was free. He was petrified to see that none of the ponies noticed him. He looked around and actually took in his own view of the castle. It looked so nice and good compared to the Wasteland buildings.
Blitz began to have a walk around, not knowing how all of this had happened. He walked around, feeling the floor beneath his hooves. It felt strange, like it wasn't a dream or an illusion or even a memory of the past. It was almost like he was exactly there, not in a dream, illusion or bad memory, like he had already suggested. It just surprised him how life like all of the memory orb was, comparing it to all of the other ones that he had entered previously.
Blitz wanted to try something new, something that only this memory orb would allow, seeing how he was able to move in this one, made his test even more curious to him. He slowly walked towards the crowd and stopped, before taking in a deep breath and pushing into the group of ponies. He didn't have to use force to move the ponies out of the way, because he faded through them all. This made Blitz understand that even his being was not real in this timeline, not yet at least.
He moved backwards, out of the crowd and turned to look at Night Shadow. He was speaking about the PipBuck that he created, but everything that he spoke, became fuzzy and static-like. Soon he was unable to hear him speaking, just replacing him with a blur and a slurry of words that didn't make any sense to Blitz. He slowly walked back, away from all of the others in the room and began to walk down the corridors again, getting a better look at everything.
There was one image that was on the stained glass window that Blitz just wanted to stare at for a little while. It was one that he spotted out, while in the perspective of Night Shadow's gaze. It was a commendation to Celestia and Luna, with Luna being a slightly darker form than they originally were.
As Blitz was staring into the abyss of the image, something was coming closer, somepony. Blitz looked to his left and saw Princess Luna, getting dragged over by Pinkie Pie. She looked unsure about something, but continued to try and look stern, if not to please the likes of everypony around her.
"Pinkie Pie? Is this really necessary?" Princess Luna asked, looking a tab bit concerned. Pinkie Pie didn't reply. Instead, Pinkie placed Luna perfectly beside Blitz's location and sat on the opposite side.
"So Blitz, you like the image? I'm pretty sure that even though you are using the memory orb that Night Shadow will place on his desk." Pinkie explained, freaking out Blitz.
"Pinkie Pie? You are aware that memory orbs view the events from somepony's perspective and not allowing you to do anything more than feel everything that the other pony is experiencing." Luna commented, getting a glare from Pinkie Pie. She sighed before coughing, clearing her throat. "So Pinkie Pie, whomever is Blitz?" Luna asked, curious about his origin.
Pinkie looked directly at him. He didn't know if Pinkie could hear him, so he just nodded, allowing her to tell Luna his story. He turned back to look at the stained glass window, but it didn't look right. Something was off about it. There was a little black and read square that was slowly growing in size, like a virus or something along those lines. It scared him a little, but it was just ticking away at the time that he had.
He turned back to Pinkie Pie and the Princess and saw that hey we're both talking about him, while looking at his exact location, almost like they could see him.
"Don't worry Blitz! We can't see you, I'm just pointing the Princess in your direction." Pinkie Pie convinced, making him ease down a little bit. He looked back at the window and saw that it was still growing bigger. "Blitz? What's wrong?" Pinkie asked, moving up to the stained glass window and looking it over.
"A black and red void is growing! What do I do?" Blitz asked, panicking just that little bit too much. Pinkie Pie rolled her eyes, before grabbing Blitz by the neck, with her hooves and throwing him into the dark red and black box. He hit the window and didn't break it. The squares of darkness had vanished. He turned around and raised an eyebrow at Pinkie Pie, seeing that she was smiling and Luna was a little surprised.
"Now that is how you break the fourth wall!" Pinkie Pie smugly announced, only loud enough that Luna could hear it. Blitz looked at the painting again and sighed.
"It's such a good image displayed on the window. What is it Pinkie?" Blitz asked, saying quiet. Pinkie Pie walked up to him and dragged him back, Blitz not figuring it out yet. Pinkie Pie stood Blitz next to Princess Luna, making Luna chuckle a little.
"Ok! Before I tell you the origin of that masterpiece, do you want to tell me how you just did that without magic, Pinkie Pie?" Luna questioned, looking at Blitz with a little bit of confusion.
"A magician never reveals their secrets!" Pinkie snapped happily, making Luna smile a little.
"You look a lot like Chrysalis! Any resemblance, Blitz?" Luna asked nicely, waiting for Blitz to understand that he was no longer in the memory orb, thanks to Pinkie Pie breaking the wall of the memory orb. Blitz stopped and turned to Luna and went wide eyed.
"Can you see me Princess?" Blitz asked the ruler of Equestria. She nodded before chuckling.
"My sister and I know about different universes and what not, also time travel, but an earth pony breaking the fourth wall, without a horn and bringing somepony back from the future, now that's a mystery!" Luna briefly stated. "Anyway, how is it there?" Luna added, looking at his attire. "Not well, I'm assuming?" She admitted, folding her ears back and smiling.
"Well, there is nowhere in Equestria that looks this clean for a start, so yeah, not well. I'm not gonna talk to you about it, but I've read those books about time travellers talking and changing the future, changing events and guiding ponies to perfectness, so I can't tell you much." Blitz explained, making both Pinkie and Luna smile.
"Seriously though, you look like Queen chrysalis. Any relation to her at all?" Luna asked, being slightly curious to his origin. Blitz shook his head.
"Chrysalis was my enemy, even if she was technically my aunty." Blitz admitted, feeling a little angry at that memory. Luna nodded, before turning back to look behind her. Nopony was noticing that Luna had been away for a little bit, so she turned back around and continued to talk to Blitz.
"Any tips from the future then, Blitz?" Luna asked, pleading for a little bit of guidance. Blitz had to think of that for a second, before he came up with an appropriate answer. He looked at Luna with a happy face and closed his eyes.
"Keep doing what you're doing and striding for Equestria's survival!" Blitz said, making Luna smile. Blitz realised that he was in some questionable clothing, compared to the others, making him feel a little more awkward about himself. He saw that ponies were wearing suits and dresses, compared to Blitz's cloak. Blitz realised that he had weapons on him too, which wouldn't go down well with guards, if they saw him. Pinkie Pie took note of this and walked up to Luna, before whispering into her ear, making her eyes go wide.
"Blitz? You have weapons? That… that… that shouldn't be an issue with my word around here!" Luna prompted, sticking her tongue out at him with a smile, before she looked away and chuckled. "Do you two want something to eat or drink while we talk?" Luna asked, looking to both Blitz and Pinkie. Pinkie rapidly nodded, but Blitz pondered for a second. He didn't get the type of comfort in the Wasteland, so why did he need change? He shook his head, surprising Luna in the process.
"Umm, Princess? You haven't talked to me about the image yet." Blitz mentioned, making himself look happier and more willing to listen. Luna blushed a little bit, before getting back to the main point why Blitz was there.
"Well, this is both an amazing tale, but also a bit of a mistake and a little embarrassing. That is Celestia and that… that was me." Luna announced to him, pointing a hoof at Celestia and then over at herself, on the opposite side of the stained glass. Blitz nodded, taking in all that he could. He was most likely going to tell the tale to Azure, once he woke up.
"Oooh! Are you going to tell him about 'her'?" Pinkie Pie asked, looking to Luna to continue the story. Luna pouted, making Pinkie Pie calm down a little. "Sorry, but I enjoy a good story." She whispered. Luna coughed, clearing her throat, so that she could speak again.
"Anyway, that pony is me, but that is also another form. That is the Nightmare, Nightmare Moon! A pony that was not one to be second in command. It wanted it all, so they took over my fragile state and broke my train of thought, making me turn evil and corrupted."
Luna admitted, feeling a little defeated with herself. Pinkie Pie brought light to the area, by changing the topic of the conversation.
"Anyway, I think that we might have to get back to the ponies that are waiting for us. Can't go making them sad and keep them waiting, can we?" Pinkie Pie suggested, making Luna shake her head and nod in response.
"Yes, that would be best." The Princess agreed, looking back at all of the ponies waiting for Night Shadow to stop talking. She began to walk over to the crowd.
"Ok Blitz, I've given you around ten minutes to do whatever you want, before you wake up. Go for a little fly or something, but keep the words I say now in mind. A war is coming! The great war of the Wasteland! I can see it!" Pinkie Pie predicted, turning around to see Luna wide eyed at her.
"Pinkie Pie? What was that? What's the Wasteland?" Luna questioned, thinking she was doing wrong. Blitz folded his ears back, before perking up and smiling.
"Princess! Don't worry, Equestria does survive in the future!" Blitz admitted, not being exactly wrong, but not lying either. Luna smiled and perked up again and turned around, before walking to the crowd and vanishing within it. Blitz was glad with himself, trying to make the princess feel better. Pinkie Pie turned to look back at Blitz and smiled, before jumping away, around a corner. Blitz looked across and saw an open window. Without hesitation, he walked up to it and went for a little fly, outside.
The sky was pink with clouds around the area being fluffy. This was a strange world, a world in which he did remember. Life before the bombs was beautiful, life after the bombs were dreadful, but also beautiful. Blitz wanted a reminder of what the sky was like, so he flew up high. He flew past the clouds, remembering that there were no restrictions to flying up so high. Before he could do anything else, he closed his eyes and fell down, closing his wings and letting the breeze tickle his back.
It was relaxing, falling into the ground from such a height, with nothing but silence hitting his ears. Blissful was the perfect word to describe the events that were transpiring, under his control. Was any of this real? Had Blitz really time travelled from a memory orb? Only he could make an answer on that.
He opened his eyes and soared across the landscape, changing his big wings for some gryphon ones. It helped him to conserve energy during most of his traveling. He loved the sky, he always had. He just wasn't able to fly since the Enclave had taken over the skies. There were clouds that were so thick, that they blocked out sunlight, let alone a pony.
He looked down to see fully built houses and shops, looking as beautiful as ever, adding to the already impressive landscape and colour. Orange and light pink, glittered the dusk of the landscape, sending Blitz's head into a softer, more emotionally attached version of itself. He wasn't going to let anything spoil the perfect opportunity he had to admire everything that was right in the world of Equestria, before the bombs.
As Blitz thought about it, something entered his head and made him want to think. He landed on the edge of a cloud and sat down on it. The cloud was acting as some sort of a cushion, just for him to relax on. Blitz tensed up at his mind, beginning to ponder questions that he needed the answer to. What was the war that Pinkie Pie was on about? The great war of Equestria? Of the Wasteland?
All of the thinking of what she could have meant by the war in his time, got him thinking about a friend. Azure! Blitz started to get a little anxious, but knew that his friend would have been there for him, when he woke up from the memory orb, right? He was beginning to doubt himself. He valued Azure and even considered him a great friend. He knew how Blitz acted and helped him understand that some of the bad in the Wasteland, could have been good, if given the right circumstance. He admired that about him, always seeing the good in ponies and creatures, that others couldn't, wouldn't and shouldn't see. There was something about him that made Blitz like him a lot, but he couldn't put a hoof on it.
Azure was a pony that he trusted very well. Azure was one of the only ponies that Blitz knew wouldn't stab him in the back, instead, he'd have his back one hundred percent. Blitz just worried about losing a friend like that and ending up alone. Although he had only known Azure a little while, he already felt that bond with him that some ponies and creatures felt after having friends for years.
Blitz actually felt a little sad, not having his friend next him to relax and see the sky that he dreamed of so much. It broke his heart a little, but he would promise it to him, to allow him to see the sky, just once, so that he could be happy with himself. That was going to Blitz's goal for himself, to allow Azure to see a sky that Blitz was seeing in the memory orb, even if it killed him.
Blitz shook his head vigorously and sighed, wishing that he could share the experience with somepony, just so that he didn't feel so alone in the memory orb. He got up from the cloud that he was on and looked around and saw a mountain. The mountain pierced through the clouds and seemed to extend forever. Blitz wanted to keep himself distracted, so he climbed the mountain.
The mountain was so tall, that Blitz had to stop flying to conserve more energy and had to climb it by hoof. He began to see something changing above him, making him ponder in confusion about what was happening. It was the memory orb ending. He could see the corner where he was laying and pursued for the goal, to reach reality again.
Blitz pushed harder and harder, seeing that his chance to wake up was getting closer and closer. Using his wings, he propelled himself up and straight through the ripple. The world around him faded to a pure white and made him question what had just happened. Was any of that real, or was it all just inside his head? Either way, he'd talk to Azure about it once he got back to his reality.
The whiteness seemed to be endless, trapping Blitz in a state of purgatory. He wasn't awake, but yet again, he wasn't in the memory orb either. He flew around and tried to change his changeling flapper wings, his usual wings, to some gryphon ones. Surprisingly, he wasn't able to do so. He wasn't allowed to change. He tried to change his entire form, but again, it failed. What was going on with the dimension that he was in? He looked around and didn't realise that below him, the ground was approaching fast.
Blitz eventually looked down and saw the ground. He didn't have enough time to react, so he closed his eyes and felt the floor under his hooves. He opened his eyes and was back in his normal state, back in reality. He took a moment to adjust to the area once again, recognising so many familiar features of the area that he was in a little while ago, before the memory orb. He let his eyes adjust and found himself to be still in the exact same position. He looked to his left to see his partner in crime, asleep next to him.
Azure was asleep, but didn't hesitate to keep Blitz comfy and warm. Blitz saw that Azure had kept his wing over Blitz, while being right beside him, practically sleeping against him. Blitz didn't mind, in fact, he admired the company of his best pal in the Wasteland. He lifted his head and moved it closer to Azure's, allowing the pegasus to feel warmer. Blitz used his magic to grab his saddlebag, which Azure clearly took off. He brought out a little piece of fabric that looked like cloth. He kept pulling out the fabric and found that it extended quite far. Blitz lifted up himself and Azure, with a little bit of a struggle and placed the fabric around them both. It was warm, and quite comfy for what it was.
Blitz moved his head and rested it on top of Azure's, guarding him like he was a little foal. He had protected him, while Blitz was asleep. It was time to turn the tables on his friend, allowing him to rest peacefully, without any fear of being interrupted by any other living being.
